[Q] if I update my Verizon note 4... - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I update my Verizon note 4. Will I be able to downgrade back to ANI1 if need be thru oden? Or does the locked bootloader prevent this as well?

You can't update without root until you get it OTA, but you can flash the full ROM. See the "flash" link in my signature.

Well is your GN yakju or takju?
If its either then hitting system update will prompt you the OTA.
You can also try the clearing Google Service Framework and hitting the System Update.

well you're not rooting... so technically, you never have to have root to update to JB.

Yeah, to flash the full images, you don't need root, but you need an unlocked bootloader.
But I was talking about updating, not re-flashing a ROM: if you want to "update" your existing build to JB, you either need to get it OTA, or download it and move it to /cache (root required), or apply it via CWM (either root or an unlocked bootloader required).

technically it depends what version of GN is he using...shouldn't be a problem if he's on yakju or takju...

Well for one is it American or European? GSM or CDMA? Buy it off the Play Store?
If it's CDMA you would have to unlock and use custom recovery to install 4.1, but it would be very simple to do and there are completely stock 4.1 builds that work flawlessly.

How to unlock bootloader?

Hey guys, I need some help. How can I unlock the bootloader on the N3 and root it? This is my first time to have a locked phone. Altough it supports different SIM cards, the bootloader is locked. And yeah - should I wait until KitKat update comes out or should I root it now? Thanks in advance!

Great thing about T-Mobile is bootloaders are not locked. Just root first from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423 and install your custom recovery afterwards.

The T-Mobile Note 3 does not have a locked bootloader, simply use Odin to flash a custom recovery and/or root the stock OS. It is carrier locked but not bootloader locked. Only the AT&T and Verizon variants are locked (and I think Verizon has a "developer" unlocked variant).

Thanks for that, but when I search for ROMs should I download roms for the international version of Note3 or Tmobile? Or is there any difference since bootloader is unlocked? And how can I root without tripping KNOX?

This was answered in your other post. You gonna need to read and research. Knowledge is your friend. The devs here put in the first line what phones the rom will work for. If it a T-Mobile phone then you in right area.

Stock Rooted rom?

hi, I just recently aquired the Nexus 7 2013 model, and I am currently not rooted. I want to root but I dont want to run CM or all the other custom roms. I just want a stock rooted rom.
Is there a stock rooted 4.4.2 rom for this device?
That is all, thanks!
There is one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563017
You will need a custom recovery in order to flash it!
Or you can just flash the SuperSU zip in recovery and it'll be rooted

You will need to unlock the bootloader first before flashing a root zip. Then you will have a stock rooted ROM. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XM3CBtAaoWU

I'm curious. I've never used a device with a locked bootloader. Since this tablet is about to get the 4.4.3 update, will unlocking the bootloader affect the update? Will I still receive the update.
I'm planning on unlocking the bootloader but not flashing the rootzip yet until I get the update.

Yes, you will still receive the OTA. Having an unlocked bootloader has no effect on updating via OTA.
You could just root and then re-lock the bootloader

That won't work. If you relock the bootloader everything has to be stock.
It would just refuse to lock

Only recovery needs to be stock to relock the bootloader, you can unlock, root and then relock - then you have rooted stock ROM and a locked bootloader without having to flash a custom recovery or ROM.

Are you sure? This wasn't the case with my Motorola Xoom. I thought everything needs to be stock, wouldn't this defeat the point of relocking since its meant to be factory settings for warranty purposes?

Have done it on both my N7 and N5 - does provide a small measure of security for the phone (my company allows rooted devices, but only with locked bootloaders) see http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/help/info-understanding-risks-unlocked-t1898664
after rooting - fastboot oem lock

fair enough, I stand corrected! Didn't know you could re-lock a rooted device.
So could you flash OmniROM, flash stock recovery and re-lock?

From what I understand, yes, that is correct - although I have heard that some ROMs require a custom recovery

Hmm interesting, a lot has changed since I've done any relocking so I'll read up about.
Thanks for clarifying some things
