[Q] Phone randomly freezing - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Please bare with me, I'm trying to think of every possible detail for anyone to help me with this....
My brother gave me his Note 2 to "fix" because it was stuck in a boot loop and would randomly freeze. It was 100% stock, unrooted and less than a year old. The problem started when the phone auto-updated to 4.4.2. After investigating and tinkering around, I got it out of the boot loop (I just wiped the cache). Upon reboot, the phone would function normally for up to 90 seconds (approx) then freeze. The only way to unfreeze was to battery pull, holding the power button down didn't work. After repeating the reboot process several times I realized that each time it attempted to do a system update. I looked for a way to disable the auto-update feature and was unable to find it.
My next thought went to rooting and flashing a custom ROM. After all, if the problem was with the stock, flashing would fix that. I have rooted, installed philz recovery and flashed the Alliance ROM. I wiped all cache and booted her up. To my dismay, it's still freezing. I've gotten past the boot screen and am now freezing in different places on the "android is upgrading" screen. Each freeze causes me to have to battery pull and start over.
I am out of ideas. I would like to be able to fix this phone and put service on it. Thank you in advance for all help!

Make sure you are using philz recovery (6.07.9 recommended). You will need to wipe the internal sdcard. Go under mounts option and select wipe /data /data/media option then go to reboot menu and reboot recovery. Now install rom and see how if that works.

Thank you!
I wiped the internal SD. That enabled me to format the phone then install the Liquid Smooth ROM. So far so good. It's been 48 hours with no problems.
Thanks again for your help!

Random Restarts

Hello every one,
I am new to the forums and have been looking around for some time. I have a major issue that I need some assistance with if possible.
I am running, well was running, gingerbread 2.3.3 on my HTC Evo 4g phone until yesterday night. Here is some info about what happened. I rooted my phone with revolutionary and everything was going good til I tried to install a new ROM on the phone. The ROM I was downloading was CyanogenMod7, When it finished downloading, the phone booted itself into recovery to install the ROM. Well this is when the problem started, it just sat at the install screen and when it got down with the install it just continued to boot itself into a loop.
I turned the phone off and tried to boot it into recovery, which it did by the way. I did a complete restore of the stock ROM and rebooted the phone, when the phone turned back on is when the phone just continued to restart itself over and over again. So, I did a complete wipe: Recovery, Clear storage etc and nothing seemed to work but instead of it restarting itself, it just sits at the recovery screen and wont go any further. Just like it doesn't have any OS installed to boot from.
I would like some help and see what I can do to fix this problem.
When I go to recovery and boot from the fastboot-bootloader it says:
SD checking "No Image" Loading...

on top of that the sd card well not mount to the phone. I am so lost right now.
Some one pelase help or point me in the right direction.
Which recovery are you using for this? Maybe you can actually get it together by doing a complete wipe and cleaning cache/dalvik and then do the recovery.
I am using the clockwork recovery v3.0.0.5.
Every time I try to wipe the Dalvik Cache it tells me
E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] Dalvik Cache wiped

I still get the same thing. The one issue that I have encountered was that the sd card is not mounted to the phone. I have android sdk tools installed but the program can't seem to find my phone when I run the command prompt. The other things is now my phone just randomly shuts down and the the battery light just blinks, like its in stand by mode or something. The only thing I can do is take the battery out and what, then replace the battery and see if it works.
Try to charge the battery without using the phone that way you can work with it. My suggestion is to use Amon-RA recovery. Works a whole lot better that Clockwork. And try from there if you can install the ROM right.
It might be problems with your SD card. If is not reading it then that would be the message.
I tried that and nothing, I gave up on trying to save the phone that I went and got a replacement for it.

[Q] Nexus Prime continuously rebooting

I brought my Nexus Prime from Korea last month.
A few hours ago I was listening to music on my phone when it rebooted. After that it came back on for roughly 10 seconds before rebooting again.
I uninstalled a game from my phone roughly 30 minutes before this error happened.
I cannot use my phone now, I get a few seconds of use out of it before its stuck in a continuous reboot cycle.
I have tried letting it cool down (it was a hot day), removing the simcard and changing batteries. Not sure what else I can do with only a few seconds of use.
Model number - SHW-M420S
Is anyone able to help me get out of this reboot cycle?
Try to back up important things and do factory reset. Is your phone rooted? CWM recovery installed? If so, before doing factory restore you could try wiping cache/dalvik cache first.
Sent from my super Galaxy Nexus plusĀ®
Luckily its still a new phone, so there isn't much on it.
The phone is rooted in that I cannot access it in any way. Even connecting to a computer is useless as its only on for a few seconds before it reboots itself.
CWM recovery isn't installed, will be when the phone is working again though!
Is there a way to wipe the cache/dalvik cache or factory reset while the phone is off?
fastboot will allow you to erase data, userdata, as well as flash a custom recovery like cwm or a full rom.

edit: boot your device with POWER+VOLUP+VOLDOWN into fastboot. search google and/or xda for some fastboot tutorials.
I had this problem awhile back. It was a bum phone with hardware issue. I had to exchange it. Yours may be in the same boat.
I will try a fastboot later today and let you know the outcome, thank you.
If all else fails I'll send it back to Korea for new hardware I guess.
I ran into this problem a while ago. I had to restore the phone to stock using the image from Google. Haven't had a problem since

[Q] Phone is going nuts!!! Help!! PLEASE!!!

Ok so, I have been running Hyperdrive RLS16 for quite sometime now with no issues, going on approx 6 months now. Love the rom. Just today out of nowhere my phone started timing out. By timing out I mean, screen started going black as if I was closing it when I was in the middle of using it. This proceeded to happen for at least 15 minutes meanwhile it was constantly rebooting itself as well. After about 15 mins of reboots and screen timeouts, it got to where the phone would not stay on. it would boot up, then when i started using it it would reboot again. So after a battery pull, sd card pull and sim card pull I restarted it and since it seems to be doing ok for the moment. I immediately backed up my rom in clockword mod recovery through rom manager, backed up all my apps and created an update.zip in titanium backup. I downloaded the stockmod slim rom t999 4.3 v3 and the uvuemj4 modem that it requires for data and was gunna try and flash it and everytime i boot into recovery and try to select an option to pick, it randomly starts selecting things and jumping all over the place and then reboots. wont let me wipe data factory reset, or wipe dalvick or cache. wont even let me choose the rom or modem to flash. I tried to update my version of clockwork mod, and nothing. Tried to download goo manager and try twrp but it wont go into twrp it stays in clockwork mod and does the same. Im so confused on what to do to fix this and would like to flash a new rom to see if it will fix my screen timeouts and reboots but I cant get recovery to cooperate in order to do that. Can anyone help me? PLEASE!!!! I thought maybe if i try clockwork mod touch that it may fix the problem, but even if i download it how can i flash it if recovery isint cooperating?:crying::crying::crying:

It sounds like there would be a problem with your digitizer. Or motherboard. Either way it sounds expensive to fix.

The touch response is working fine though, and the buttons work fine. But it randomly scrolls all over the place in recovery and selects things on its own even when Im just holding it in my hand pressing nothing. I have the regular clockwork mod recovery not the touch installed. I have to scroll with the volume buttons and select with the power button. But even when im not pressing either it just goes in ghost mode and starts selecting stuff. Its crazy!! Is there a problem with my version of recovery? 6.0.4.3

I don't use cwm so I wouldn't know. But your didgitizer could still act like its working fully and still be broken. Idk man.

ok well thanks man for your help. Would the digitizer be causing the random reboots as well?

Can you boot download mode? Odin flash stock firmware. If it continues then it may be a hardware problem.
i havent tried to do that. But i did do a factory reset from my settings instead of through recovery. I did lose quite a bit of stuff because it deleted my backups in titanium and etc but my recovery is working now. No more ghost mode selecting everything. But my phone is still doing the random reboots

Earlier I too felt this type of auto touch in my other device and I figured out that this was happening due to some radio interference at some particular time and particular place which was near a radio station
Whenever I go away or that station time was over it will be working correctly
May be something like this happening just for your information to make sure

[Q] Infinite boot loop out of nowhere.

I was using my phone earlier today and was attempting to extract an archived file with OfficeSuite 7. I had merely 400-500 of free space available at this point. After a few attempts and cancellations due to failure to extract I decided to restart my phone. Upon restarting it continuously will vibrate, show the Samsung logo for a moment, the screen will flicker off and it loops through that process all over again indefinitely. I can access download mode and recovery mode. I tried clearing the cache through recovery and removing the battery as well as smacking around the power button but it did not fix the problem.
I'm using stock TouchWiz Android 4.1.1 partly debloated, rooted, and stock recovery (because this ROM reflashes the stock recovery after a reset if a non stock recovery is installed).
I figure a factory reset might be the fix but I would need to extract my apps, settings, and SMS/all other data and I'm not sure how to do this with the phone in this condition and without an external SD card. Maybe I could flash ClockWorkMod, do a nandroid backup, and than extract this data with Titanium Backup? Can Titanium Backup do all that I am asking (I've barely used it)? Does anyone have an idea as to what the cause of the problem is to have this suddenly happen? I'm thinking it's the power button malfunctioning. The day prior twice my phone turned itself off.
Twrp has built in file manager. Copy to sd, then to computer?
Otherwise look into ADB.
what is happening
strange I am have the same issues . from working great to now FC and rebooting . almost like it the power button malfunctioning but it is not. Its something more. I was running DocHoliday 4.3 and was great . then I tried Aamir Mod V2 UVDMD5 4.3 same great . but this morning noticed it kept rebooting for no reason . wiped reset, nothing . looped and looped . wipe/reset and re-flashed and it will only stay on for a mintue . and if sleeps will not turn it F/C as soon as I touch power button.. crazy ???

Are you using TWRP? I had a similar issue, upgraded to newest TWRP 2.6.3.1 and it was fixed. Before this I tried everything, factory reset/modem upgrade/different roms.. and it wasn't working..other than a rooted touchwiz rom.
Give it a shot.. might work..
As per Perseus71:
Install TWRP 2.6.3.1. Then take a Nandroid.
Next wipe /Data. Then flash your Custom Rom. Wipe Dalvik + Cache after the Flash.

Frozen on Samsung Logo

Hi. I was trying out Blisspop on this tablet and decided I preferred CM11 so decided to restore a backup. After rebooting, nothing turned on, only download mode worked so I just flashed stock firmware using Odin (which I had used successfully previously). Now it boots but gets stuck at the Samsung Logo. I can still get to download mode, but nothing else. I've read that if factory reset in the stock recovery, it'll work itself out but I can't even get to it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Dont panic really common problem happened to me.
1. Boot into recovery, if not flash one with odin coz your gonna need something...like philz touch or team win or whatever.
2. Wipe cache and dalvik, reboot and wait, samething might appear to happen but it should boot.
Basically ive noticed a few times now on my t805 that the cache wouldnt format propperly and became corrupt and caused this.
I knew this because in the recovery a bunch of errors appeared saying couldnt acces log from cache/blah zt each time i navigated the menu of revoveryand so i wiped cache and they stopped
Booted and viola...if you see any other errors in recovery tell us here.
Good luck m8.

The problem was that I couldn't even get into recovery. But found thread on xda that mentioned if you turn off the tablet from download mode (pressing power and volume down) then you can use the normal three button method to get to recovery. And then yes, I wiped everything I could and it finally booted back up. Thanks for the help mate.
