So when you plug it in, nothing happens except charging right? Do you have USB debug enabled? Are you trying to connect to the same PC as he has used? Are you trying to access ADB? Or use HTC sync?
Your post was a little hard to read.
My debugging is on same comp usb cable as him I want to go onto my sd card but all that happens is charge sometimes my debugging turns on but nothing but charge

You have to connect the phone using Mass Storage mode. Or use the bluetooth function of the car (if available).

Bluetooth doesn't work, unfortunatly.
Now that I am using a proper data usb cable, the Desire is recognized but the data can't be read (error message on Volvo display). When I connect a usb stick it states "Read" for a while then I have all my mp3 folders.
When I connect my desire it states "Read" for about 30 seconds then I get the Error "Can't be read". Any ideas?
I have three same issue with my alpine deck. I don't think there is a work around. I think you need drivers for the phone as it isn't a generic mass storage device.

I plug it into my computer and it just keeps playing the Connected and Disconnected sounds... i can't even mount it and use it as a disk drive... I first plugged it into my comp with usb debugging disabled... then i plugged it in with it enabled... cant mount the disk drive... what am I supposed to do...?
do you have the proper drivers installed?
Try different cord and usb port.

Not able to transfer DATA through USB port using usb cable (carry case).Though it is charging through USB cable, couldnt transfer or open up folders in Galaxy S II.
Try cleaning USB port on phone with toothbrush...I had similar problem, phone was charging but PC and phone could not see each other...

Enable developer options by going to settings>about phone> keep tapping on build number till it turns on then go into developer settings ans turn on usb debugging and install the mobile drivers on your computer

When you connect the cable, does it show a little icon on the status bar? If so click on it and maybe you have it set to charging instead of file transfering

Try a different cable. Not all USB cables are created equal
When connected pull down the shade and see if it says you are connected as a media device
