[Q] Fire Stick Verizon FIOS App Control - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have a Fire TV stick and side loaded the Verizon FIOS app on to it. I managed to get my username/password by using the settings.apk and a bluetooth keyboard. I can scroll using the up/down arrows on the keyboard, but I can't select any channels.
I have a Fire tablet and an Iphone and I am willing to buy a controller.
What are the options for simulating a screen touch? or is that even possible?

I am also having same problem. Are able to solve this? or any solution found?

Yes, use a mouse.

[Q] App to control FTV w/smartphone

Just wondering if there is a server app that can be sideloaded onto the FTV that can substitute having to plug in a keyboard and mouse. I want to use hbo go and the xfinity tv go app on it but a keyboard/mouse Is needed to get through certain screens. Any ideas?
Thanks

[Q] Using FireTV native Slingplayer app with remote. Is it easier?

I have been using my Slingbox Pro HD with Slingplayer tablet apk sideloaded to the FTV. However to use it to change channels and select options I need to use a Keyboard/Mouse combo to move around and navigate.
The Native and New Slingplayer app built for FTV doesn't work with the PRO HD. It only works on Slingbox 350, 500, and M1. I was wondering if the new Slingplayer app was easier to navigate with the FTV remote? I am mainly using it to control a XBOX 360 with WIndows media Center to stream my cable card. Anyone know how hard it is to rewind/ff and access recordings and change channels with the FTV remote only?
Thanks.
The native Slingplayer app works well with the Fire TV remote. The one feature that's missing is the SlingPlayer guide. Instead, it access the box's guide function, which is useless due to the delay between clicks. I end up using my tablet or smartphone to get the TV listings and then punch in the channel number with the Fire TV remote. Another annoyance is the quality always resets to the lowest setting when the app starts. However, I tested the regular, tablet, and Fire TV apps and the Fire TV app produces better video quality at the highest settings.
Thanks for the info!

Android phone Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard app?

I hate to create a new thread with similar questions as others but none of the other threads seem to specifically address my question.
Is there a way to use the android phone to emulate a bluetooth keyboard/mouse functionality that simply pairs with other devices. I know there are many client/server applications but with regards to Fire TV Stick I just want to use the setting.apk and pair my phone to it. I have searched high and low but can't seem to find anything which makes me believe there is something inherent to that feature I don't understand which makes it not possible.
I have several apps sideloaded to Fire stick (Xfinity TV) requiring mouse and keyboard functionality. I can't find an efficient way to do this with my phone instead of buying more hardware (bluetooth keyboard/mouse).
Thanks!

Maybe something like this will help....

Its like 2 bucks. It has both KB and mouse functionality. Not sure how good it is, I have no experience with it.
If you just need keyboard functionality, you can get by with Amazon's official app which is free...

EDIT: I re-read and understand you want native BT functionality to pair your android device. I have not come across anything like that. But, you can use the app which will let you ditch your hardware keyboard, but comes with extra steps of firing up the app and having your device and FTV on the same wireless network.
I just tried out the Free Wukong TV remote app from Google Play Store. It works to control the FTV Stick and has a mouse mode that lets you use the screen as a left click. I tried it in Xfinity To Go app and Old Slingplayer tablet app that needed a mouse to select options. It works but you need to switch between mouse mode and d pad mode. It's pretty easy to switch from the app.
The Wukong app once you install on your phone and then make sure you are on the same wifi network as the Stick and enter IP of Stick or press Scan network. It will install a Wukong Remote server app on the stick. Once that is installed restart your stick and try to connect. The on the upper right is a button to switch between remote styles ie keyboard, dpad, touchpad, mouse mode.
There is a Wukong keyboard app that you can install from the phone also which lets you input text in Stick using your phone virtual keyboard. I tried it and it works and is better than using the Stick remote. However I get scared of using that app to put usernames and passwords because this app is from China and who knows if they are keeping that information.
I ended up taking the Wukong of my daily use phone and put it on a a cheapie $10 Android phone. Works great and I feels safer that this app can't be logging my information.
You could try 'True Mouse/KB' in play store, it adds Bluetooth HID device profile to your phone.

Help loading settings.apk on fire stick

Hi i have downloaded the Amazon Fire TV Utility App and i have added the ip from the Amazon Fire stick and CMD came up saying it had connected, i have then tried to load the settings.apk using the Amazon Fire TV Utility App but all i am getting is a CMD with this in it error: device offline followed by -waiting for device-
The Fire Stick is turned on and i have tried turning off my firewall and still the same problem.
Hi I managed to get it installed on the Fire Stick by running Amazon FireTV Utility App as administrator, i can now see the settings app on the fire stick and when i launch it i can see the Bluetooth option but if i click on it the app just closes it does this on what ever option i click in the settings app.
I am assuming you are on OS5.
Make sure you have the proper IP address (in FireTv Utilities app settings) for your box/stick then go in Settings/ Developer Options/and turn off and on ADB debugging two ot three times ....should work now.
Thank you for your reply i tried what you recommended but it still launches and then closes as soon as you select an option.
I'm also seeing the same thing. I've installed the settings.apk, but everytime I click on any entry, it kicks me out...
why do you need this settings.apk? what are you needing to change / use it for?
I have loaded Kodi on my fire stick and some of the apps require mouse support to navigate so i want to buy a bluetooth air mouse and all tutorials say you need to load the settings.pka and use the bluetooth options from with in that.

You don't need it.
FireOS 5 has better bluetooth support.
Here is my pairing of my Apple MagicTrackpad to the FireTV Stick (note the MagicMouse from 08 will not pair - Apple issue)
You can see me pair, pin is 0000, and the mouse cursor is that smallish circle in Kodi. The stock launcher has no mouse support, but FireStarter does.
Hi so all i need to do is get a Apple MagicTrackpad and it will work ?

I'm sure there are better Bluetooth nice to use. I just paired what is laying around. The drivers that the firetv has don't support tap to click on it so I have to click the touch pad which isn't easy unless it's on a table.
You will likely be able to use almost any Bluetooth mouse with the firetv.
I wouldn't recommend the apple trackpad for firetv usage.
The android mouse toggle app has worked well enough for me that I don't even bother with pairing a mouse.
Hi i just got the Mouse Toggle app and it finds my Amazon stick and connects everything is enables and at the bottom it says status started but on my phone it just says done at the bottom and there is no controls or anything. I have enclosed a screen shot. Thanks again for your help.
Thank you i have it all working great now.

Anybody managed to get Opera VPN working on Fire TV (unrooted)

Opera recently released an android app of their VPN service. Have managed to side load it and get it to load but get stuck on a confirmation dialogue from the fire tv asking to allow the vpn access. Tried mouse, keyboard but have had no luck. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
The App In Question
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.vpn&hl=en_GB
Got this step working using the remote to select OK.
But then, while VPN is connected, the FireTV don't seem to detect an active Internet connection.
Will have to try and give it another go. I tried with keyboard, mouse and remote and it wouldn't press it.
Strange how it's not detecting connection. Thought it would be the same as any other vpn app. I tried ipvanish not to long ago which worked perfect straight from the app.
Managed to get it to work in the end. Used remote as emc2cube suggested (thanking you) and got it to confirm settings. Also I have it on both wired and wireless boxes (fire tv 2) and both are working perfectly. What's better than a free VPN.
Good to know it worked for you.
I don't know why mine don't detect the network while running then.
Between the fact that mine is a stick, I'm currently abroad and the WiFi is pretty poor that's a lot of possibilities.
I am obviously too stupid. I installed the app on my fire tv 1st gen and am stuck at the very same point. I click the, what I assume, is the okay button on the Amazon remote but nothing happens. Did you use another remote?
You have to use the "arrow buttons" of the remote until the OK is selected (orange) on the pop up, then you can use the OK/select button of the remote to validate.
I can pass the first dialog, then there are 5 nag screens with the last one has the Olaf viking on top in the middle it says "You're Set" and bottom right "GOT IT". Whatever I click, I can't select the GOT IT and nowhere I see an OK button. Where is that located? And I don't get a popup. PS: I installed latest firmware.
For that you must use a BT mouse. Fortunately once it's set up you only need the remote to connect. (Even if it still not working for me on the Stick :/ )
BT mouse? USB mouse won't work? Then hopefully an Apple mouse works
My bad, I'm still thinking for the stick (where the apple mouse is actually working).
USB mouse will do it for you.
Thanks! I am up and running live tv
