Hi guys,
I have just managed to update my Nexus 7 2013 to 5.0.1 (After lots of problems though, see here). The problem is that "Adaptive Brightness" feature doesn't work anymore! I mean by turning it on, the brightness level sets to highest level, no change in different ambient light situations and the brightness slider doesn't work at all! On past versions I could change the brightness level even with Adaptive Brightness turned on and the sensor was working fine, but now it is only changeable when the feature is off! any idea?
Try to refresh /boot and /system partition within fastboot.
I already did (please see the link in my first post), but still the same!
Wipe cache
try to wipe cache or restalling
Is the front camera working?
Thanks guys for your replies,
After several restarts, it works again like a charm!! I'm happy but confused!

Hi there, just wanna mention that i did search the forum, but didn't find an answer, just to be clear on that.
So, yesterday i got a desire, switched from a wildfire which i had for 2 months, there is a bit more power and fun to be had with a desire.
But as with the wildfire, i noticed that the auto brightness function isn't doing so well.
If i get up at night and it's all black in my room, the screen is way to bright, i have to use the power control to bring it down, but the downside is that it disables the auto brightness.
Is there anything that let's you tell auto brightness, if it's pitch black, brightness should be this low and so forth?
I've rooted and flashed with leedroid.
I'm running LeeDroid and I don't know if it's recalibrated or what, but it's definitely better than with the stock ROM.
Edit: Just saw I didn't read your post well enough and you've got LeeDroid as well, so my answer is not too helpful... sorry...
The Cyanogen ROMs have settings to adjust brightness.
This was one of the things that annoyed me about the desire.....so much that I decided to fully root this thing and do things my way lol
So I removed the stock ROM, Radio, HBOOT and Recovery and flashed some custom ROMs and now automatic brightness works JUST FINE ^^
Edit: Does leedroid come with automatic brightness settings?...hav u checked under the Display settings? becuase most of the ROMs that support automatic brightness needs to have it enabled and setup to work properly

Well, yes leedroid has automatic brightness, but as i mentioned, it's still too bright at night, i want to tell auto brightness that if i does not detect any light, it should turn the brightness as low as possible and so forth.
Do you turn the brightness down with power control you disable auto brightness and have to manually enable it again.
Even tho there is only one sensor, instead of having a preset value for different amount of light detected, it could be smarter.
Ex. auto brightness is on, it's dark, you go into brightness and turn it further down, phone asks you if you are turning it down because you think it's too bright, you click yes, phone learns that you want lower brightness when it's very dark, you click no, phone does nothing because you had another reason for adjusting brightness.
The next time, phone remembers that you want low brightness when it's dark, so you don't have to do it again.
[Solved] It was the automaic brightness!
Quarx announced it on his CM7 port thread: - "Don't disable Auto-brightness.... or cpu will 90-100% - FIX for beta6"
If you disable auto brightness, everything is still fine, until you change the brightness setting and then system_server cpu use skyrockets. once auto brightness is re enabled everything is fine again.

What did I do / Way to reproduce the bug: (edit: I just played with the brightness level)
4x1 powerwidget with:
wifi, bluetooth, gps, mobile data. data sync, screen timeout, orientation. brightness and flashlight selected.
on what firmware? eclair or froyo, maybe cm7? btw, you can't post to the developers forum because you have to have 10 posts before doing that...
Sorry it was late last night when I posted;
Cm7 beta 6, ran perfectly smooth before I messed up with the widget.
clearing the cache (from clockwork) makes the system barely usable (from constant crashing and hanging.)
Reseting / restarting adw doesn't make much difference.
Is anyone else having this issue? No matter what I do to adjust my settings, it remains full brightness.
Go to display settings , uncheck auto brightness , now u can adjust the brightness..... If not, reboot the device.
I noticed this myself but i am rooted , using a custom kernel and xposed with some modules so i wasn't really sure what's causing the problem. Didn't have the time yet to figure it out... Is your pixel c still stock?
Still stock. I can adjust brightness with auto brightness unchecked, but the lowest setting is incredibly bright still.
I did a reboot and after that it worked again like it should... , i just checked with mine and it's still working correctly ...
Hi everybody, I recently updated my Eonon Androud HU to 5.1.1 using the first 5.1.1 custom ROM listed here. The DSA Prerooted ROM. Thus far it's been functional and fits my needs over the Malaysk ROM. However this ROM has some sort issue with it automatically dimming the screen to low, even though it's been set to 100%. When sliding the brightness slider to 100, the screen will still dim on its own, regardless of the adjustment still being set at 100%. I have gone through all the settings and found nothing that can help me. The display submenu only displays the option "Brightness". Which is just the standard slider to adjust the brightness. There is no option for Auto, Low, Bright, etc.
I've downloaded some apps to control the brightness to see if that would help, but something on this ROM is overriding any brightness apps from working. I even tried installing an xposedMTC module as it had an automatic dimming option, hoping to deactivate it completely but no luck. The way my car works is my headlights have an automatic DRL. When I turn my DRL's off, the headunit seems to activate it's full brightness, until I turn the automatic light control back on which turns on my DRL's, then the screen goes dim again. It's as if the headunit is going by the whole "Oh your headlights are on, it must be dark outside. Let me adjust the brightness to low for you".
Any help would be appreciated. I hope it's a simple fix. Thank you!

That's one of the main differences between Malaysk and DSA. DSA told me look out the window and figure it's night time. Secondly he told me to go to max at least two or even three times in a row. It will then STAY 100% bright till you reboot.

Whoa, thanks for the quick reply and useful information. Is there absolutely no way to bypass having to do that method? As that would be a chore doing it multiple times after exiting and entering my car multiple times a day. Maybe a simple build.prop edit possibly? Just naming ideas.
There is... Mtc manager has settings in it for brightness settings due to time. You can turn it off there. This didn't work for me so I went another route with changing some file. Its all detailed in the thread as to how.

You could disable brightness control entirely or just alter the brightness levels.
It's in file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh - at its end, comment out all 14 lines after comment line reading "#Brightness control (last, always)", in order to disable the algorithm.
OR, change line reading "nb=5 ### Night Brightness ###" to a different value for the night brightness (nb), eventually equal to day brightness (db, on next line).
Use a root explorer, or edit a copy of file on PC (with notepad+ if on Windows) and copy it back - with a root explorer or manually, if you can. File mode: 0755, owner & group: root:root.
If script /system/etc/install-recovery.sh gets "damaged", you must reinstall the firmware, but with NO wipe all, so fairly quickly and no loss of settings and apps.
Editing of script could also be done with @devilsoft app (with a name I can't recall).

Hi @brian117 !
In fact, there is a simple fix I found lately.
You need to enter factory settings first.
Go to SETTINGS -> Factory settings -> enter code: m123456
When you're there, go to last page, and tick the "Key light" option.
Now press "Apply" and "Exit". Confirm reboot.
It worked with me - now the screen has full brightness regardless of the car lights on or off (in Poland we need to have the lights on whole day, as well). Now you can use a software dimming, like MTC to auto dimm the screen according to actual day time. I did this. Works like a charm! (I set dimming after sunset to 75% brightness)
Hey guys, I wanted to ask you guys, what is the problem with my Redmi Note 5 AI/Pro after Android 9 update?
I have a rare problem with my Redmi Note 5 AI/Pro/Globle version. The problem is that, my device does not adjust it's screen brightness even it's set to auto brightness control. And the peculiarly is that it goes down automatically if i adjust it to higher level and auto brightness is active but it does not come up even if I go to eclipse.
Mine works but it's still way too dim and reduces automatically after a while even if I force it brighter manually. I thinks it's related to pie adaptive brightness which can't be turned off in miui currently.
There's a magisk module (miui auto brightness) that helps a bit - it limits how dark the phone gets but the behavior is the same.
I've seen more than a couple bug reports related to that on miui forums, maybe they'll fix it.

Same here, have to do it manually.
Auto brightness works fine (brightness slider moving slowly but brightness adjustment is as expected in auto brightness mode)

Android Pie use a different algorithm to adjust brightness, it now encourage you on manual adjust the brightness yourself and AI will try to learn it instead of the old traditional sensor brightness.
More info here: https://www.androidauthority.com/android-pie-adaptive-brightness-927080/
Well I don't know what Google did with adoptive brightness or ambiant display but my Redmi Note 5 is just not working with this new feature and I don't know how to go back on to my older settings. This only forces me to every time go and adjust my display brightness manually. The worst thing is that i have to adjust brightness in the bright day light, like when i come out from a dark place and i just want to check any update I can't see my screen at all until I adjust the brightness to up. And to my surprise, sometimes when I scroll down the brightness bar to adjust it to an upper level I can see the bar is on the highest level but screen brightness has been lower from somewhere else, which I can't understand.
Somebody give me any good reason for Xiaomi's new auto screen brightness control system on Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 AI after PEI update, why should I have it on my mobile when I have to adjust the screen brightness manually every time I want to check my mobile for anything. Either it's on #Xiaomi's part or #Google's but I don't want it on my device.
I can confirm that, with the 10.3.1.0.PEIMIXM rom the auto brightness function not working properly, it's horrible!
