hey Guys. i bought my M8 when it first came out, with no intention to root, but i finally cracked and did it. it worked all good and well, till a few months ago an update came up and i couldn't update cause of a custom kernel, and the update notification got annoying. i saw a video on how to unroot, and get stock kernel, and i was able to update. a week after, another update came out and i did it, then i tried to redo the root, but it failed and i wasn't able to bring it up in the CMD. now whenever i hit the update button, the phone goes into fastboot. i just want to unroot and keep it stock now. any help?

So your trying to take a ota from your carrier an every time you do it boots to bootloader? If you have a custom recovery you can't take a ota, r you running a custom recovery?

yes i know. i meant to say i returned to stock recovery, not kernel, in the OP. i did the carrier update before, but when i went to put a custom recovery, after doing previous updates, it just didn't work, and now ever time i press "install Now" my phone will reboot and go straight into fastboot mode. and in fastboot mode, it reads tampered and unlocked, with s-on.

So, am I correct in understanding that my phone will not take the OTA with twrp installed? As in nothing to worry about?
Is there any command I can run in terminal to make it stop asking if I want to install the OTA?

Just follow the 2nd post here, then reflash TWRP. The OTA doesn't break root.

Yes, I just used Voodoo today to restore root after taking the .15 OTA. Will not work after 4.3, though (according to Google Play).

I can confirm this works fine as well. I had S-OFF through rumrunner and had flashed TWRP. To take the OTA, I re-flashed the stock recovery (.10) from the link given in this thread, then took the OTA. After the OTA installed with no problems, I re-installed a recovery (I changed to CWM, just for fun). I tested it by booting into recovery, and when I rebooted from CWM, it asked me if I wanted to re-install root (su). The phone now has the OTA (.15), still has SOFF and root was easily recovered.
I flashed the .10 stock recovery and I'm getting an error when I try the ota, any ideas why? I followed these instructions and I end up with a red triangle with exclamation point the reboot and phone works fine. Thanks for any help.
Edit:I got the congratulations message but when I checked it says failed, error 410. I've downloaded it a couple of times.

Hello all,
Sorry if this question has an obvious answer. But I am trying to make sure that I don't lose S-Off before applying the 4.3 update for the HTC One. Since I know as of this post that rumrunner does not work on 4.3 builds yet and so I would really rather not be in that kind of situation.
I want to apply the OTA to make sure I get all the stock radio/binary/fimrware updates installed before I flash a custom 4.4.2 ROM. Since last time I tried that, I was unable to get any kind of data connection and was only able to use Wi-Fi. I want to make sure I have all the needed radios before I apply KitKat again.
So the question being, does applying any OTA break S-off? I am in a strange state with my HTC one right now where I am having a difficult time getting to the bootloader. I will try again when I get home by using adb but right now it's not working.
Thanks ahead of time.
It should not break S-off. To the best of my knowledge only relocking it yourself is about the only way to reset a phone to S-on.

So I would just need to apply the update, then re-unlock the bootloader since it's already s-off. After that, flash custom recovery and flash KitKat and be on my way?
You could just get the firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319 in post #2. Then you would not have to worry about losing anything.

I tried that and I was still not getting data on just the radio. So I tried the other zip and I just ended up in a bad state. I think I might have grabbed the wrong version potentially. I'll try again later at home.

If you are already s-off with an unlocked bootloader you can take the OTA and not lose either. You'll just have to flash TWRP or CWM in fastboot and then the su binary in recovery to get root again.

The hosed data thing is fixed with a factory reset from the stock recovery.

I was able to resolve this issue.
For anyone looking at this in the future or having the same issue:
I was able to get bootloader to properly load after holding the power button + vol down for a while. My lights started blinking (home and back) but I just kept holding the buttons. Eventually it finally loaded the bootloader.
Went into fastboot from bootloader and then flashed twrp recovery. Grabbed the firmware zip from the post where all the stock files are available and flashed that properly using the steps in the post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319).
Once I flashed that, I went back into recovery, did a clean wipe on everything but sd-card/internal data.
Flashed my new rom after that (twrp requires a reboot after a wipe to properly flash for KitKat at this time).
Everything was smooth sailing after that and I have 4G data now thanks to the new radios/firmware.
Hi,
I used the all-in-one tool kit to root my M8. I was following the steps involved and was successful. I tried to install the xposed framework and was told to flash a custom kernel. After doing so my phone will only boot into the fastboot menu, with the "tampered" warning at the top. I can get into the recovery through hboot. Is my phone ruined and if not how can I get this fixed?
Sorry if this has been asked before but I am quite nervous that I ruined my phone. Any help would be much appreciated.
Just restore a back up through recovery or if you don't have one then sideload a rom with that toolkit you used.

Please anwser and if there is a way please send a link
THANKS A LOTTT!!
It's exactly the same as before.
Look for how do I root here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711073
You unlock bootloader. Flash a custom recovery... I suggest twrp. It will ask you when you exit if you want to root. Say yes.
Boot into android, install supersu if it or superuser aren't there already. (from play store)
Or just flash recovery . Install a rom , likely rooted already.
?

I don't think you have twrp installed anymore, or not properly. You've flashed it with fastboot, since updating to lollipop? How did you update to lollipop?
Normal, I never had root before. Upgraded my phone to 5.0 and then i tried to root it
Rooted fine here with normal method. Just had to update super su.
OK, can you please walk us through exactly what steps to Root you took. From the beginning. And we'll see what happened.

I DONT KNOW BUT THE PREVIOUS supersu I installed couldnt update the su binary. This one did it. PROBLEM SOLVED AND I ROOTED MY 5.0.1 LOLIPOP DEVICE.
THANKS GUYS FOR EVERYTHING REALLY HELPFUL!!!
Hi guys.
Today I checked for system updates and I found one, around 92 Mb, i have rooted and install framework xposed with a couple of modules and uninstall some of the bloatware, just regular uninstall nothing fancy like using Titanium Backup, so pretty much I have most of the bloatware.
Now I try to apply the update but it fail, got a "dead android" with a error message.
Luckily my phone didn't went into a bootloop or anything similar.
Now my question is how do I proceed in order to apply the update?
If you can be as specific as much as you can I would really appreciate. Been using Samsung phone for the last 4 years and I've been using Odin or Twrp to inject or flash in the Samsung phone and I know this phone take a different approach.
Thanks in advance for your help.
To be honest I would like to see a process where you don't lose any settings or data
Have you tried holding the power button, then (while holding power button) quickly press Vol up and release and then release power button when you get the "dead android".
After rooting I get the "dead android" whenever I enter recovery, the above method works every time.

I had to flash the latest stock via recovery mode, then root and inject xposed... now I'm good.

Boot into recovery and select update from ADB. The command is "adb sideload filename.zip"
The OTA links are available here on XDA, there is a dedicated thread for it.
