Hi Team,
I recently bought a new HTC One M8 - while I was searching for custom ROM's I came across an interesting observation. The ROMs which were listed mentioned - SUPPORTED DEVICES like:
M8_UL
M8_UL_CA AT&T
M8_UL_CA T-Mobile USA
M8_UL_CA Telus
M8_UL_CA Roger
M8_UHL
Now here are some facts on my devices and right after that I will ask a stupid question:
Bought this phone in India. It's a single SIM phone and says HTC One M8 (Eye).
Now when I boot the phone into FASTBOOT MODE and look for what type on variant I have it says - MELS_TUHL.
Now I'm unsure what variant I have and if I can flash any ROM on it.
Could you help me identify if MELS_TUHL is either one of below listed devices:
M8_UL
M8_UL_CA AT&T
M8_UL_CA T-Mobile USA
M8_UL_CA Telus
M8_UL_CA Roger
M8_UHL
Hope I posted this in the right forum. I you need any additonal details or the log files please let me know would be more than happy to help with the same.
Thanks,
Sam
None of the above will work on your device.
Never ever flash a custom ROM meant for M8_UL and its variants on your M8 Eye.
You'll risk a brick.
And yes ... you're on wrong forum/thread. Question should go to Q&A section.

Hi Team,
This may sound silly. But I recently bought a HTC M8 - while I was searching for custom ROMs. I came across different variants for the same. Like
M8_UL
M8_UL_CA AT&T
M8_UL_CA T-Mobile USA
M8_UL_CA Telus
M8_UL_CA Roger
M8_UHL.
Now I'm puzzled because when I look up the details for my HTC One M8 from the fastboot menu it says ***MELS_TUHL***
Now which do you I have or if I can flash a custom ROM??
Hi there,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum. For more questions or reply to this thread you must register an account on XDA forums.

Hi All,
I just bought a new HTC One M8 (EYE).
Just wondering if there are any custom ROM's available for my device.
I have searched almost all website came across some custom ROM's but unsure if its made for my device. One every custom ROM there is a section saying SUPPORTED DEVICES. The list is as follows.
M8_UL
M8_UL_CA AT&T
M8_UL_CA T-Mobile USA
M8_UL_CA Telus
M8_UL_CA Roger
M8_UHL
Now when I boot into FASTBOOT MODE it says MELS_TUHL so does that mean my device can be flashed with any other ROM. Or MELS_TUHL is
M8_UL
M8_UL_CA AT&T
M8_UL_CA T-Mobile USA
M8_UL_CA Telus
M8_UL_CA Roger
M8_UHL
Thanks
Waiting for a favourable response.
Hey everyone,
So yesterday I traded my s5 for an m8 (totally a score in my eyes) and to my surprise it came pre modded. I'm no slouch when it comes to modding devices... Consoles, nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy s2x/s3/note2/s5.... But being a first time HTC user I have a few questions.
Before the questions come, here is some details.
Bootloader says s-off at the power+volume down screen at the top, so I'm taking a wild guess the previous owner already s-off the device.
Uses twrp as it's recovery.
Currently the device is running the following setup (screenshots attached)
Questions:
1. What is the proper model / Device name for this? I'm Canadian, unlocked Sim, using Rogers. (like my old s3 was something like sgh-i747m or something, for example)
2. What model/device names am I compatible with? T-mobile, sprint etc
3. Are there any lollipop aosp Roms compatible that are smooth and stable releases?
4. Stable miui?
5. What the hell are some of these applications like peel smart remote, HTC dot view etc that I'm seeing? Bloatware?
6. Anything I need to keep in mind about my setup / hazards?
7. What's this google play edition stuff I keep seeing? Turning the m8 into a nexus or something?
I love this phone, but before I start my flashoholic ways with it I thought I should ask.
Cheers!
Wow, that's a Sense 7 custom rom and It has some mods like the clock in the center of the status bar. There is GPE for the m8 so you can convert yours, and it is like AOSP but without bugs.
Hey everyone i have sprint Galaxy s5 g900p running android 5.0 but when i want to choose network type there is no any options avail like ie: GSM only/WCDMA only so how can i get these options
I also tried this code *#*#4636#*#* but not working at all.?

1. Do a getvar all for all info and post it here or search for yourself the model on Google (don't post serials and imei) reboot in bootloader, enter fastboot and connect to pc and from cmd type fastboot getvar all (drivers may be needed)
2. Refer to 1
3. Yes
4.?
5. Peel smart remote is the IR controller and dot view is HTC app for their dot view case.
6 Don't mess with what you don't understand, especially if you are s-off
7. Yes

As for questions 3 and 4, can you recommend a few decent aosp based Roms?
And if you don't know what miui is, you are missing out lol.
Lastly; m8_ul = WCDMA / GSM / FDD-LTE from my research, so I theoretically should be fine to flash pretty much any rom that isnt CDMA specific right?
@Dragostini I can't recommend any since I don't use them, I like sense.
m8_ul is GSM

You also have super cid (11111111) which let's you install any rom (or any ruu), regardless of your carrier
This thread will help you understand the terms and what S-OFF means etc etc. As for ROMs, you gonna have to pick for yourself
@Dragostini
I essentially did the same thing, came from an S5 to the One M8. (Rogers as well)
Your M8 is running a kick ass ROM already, a couple bugs here and there, but sense 7 is sweet. Crushes Touchwiz we had on the s5 eh, only thing I miss is the finger print scanner, minor lol.
As mentioned you are s-off, I'd recommend looking at GPE ROM, not the full conversion yet, try the GPE ROM see how you like it, BoomSound, IR, Duo Cam, Motion Gestures all still work great. Theres a .zip you can flash in recovery to have stock sense 7 camera/gallery with 95% of features working (No Zoe' or) Trust me, you'll notice a difference in camera performance between stock sense and GPE, this makes up for it.
GPE+Cam mod=flashigoodness <--I think I'm drunk. Rolled that combo out for a while
Cheers
Your m8 is already on steroids; I would not do anything extra.

Why is it you think that LTE Band 3 is what you need? How do you know its not LTE Bands 5 or 40, that are used in your area?
From what I can tell, LTE Band 3 is supported by the Hong Kong version, out of the box. On the other hand, we've seen a number of cases where versions with the proper band support, still can't get LTE working. It seems there may be some unique peculiarities in how different carriers are deploying LTE. Haven't seen a good explanation for this, or a solution.

You can't unlock the bands simply by flashing a custom ROM.
The typical method to change band support, is to obtain s-off ($25 US with sunshine app) then flash another versions radio baseband.
Looking at specs available here, the only version M8 that I see that supports LTE Band 40 (2300 MHz) is the India version. Which would make sense in your case. But that version only seems to support LTE Band 40, and not the others you mentioned (LTE Bands 3 and 5). So its a bit puzzling.
And as I mentioned previously, I've seen folks go through the effort of "converting" to another version with the proper regional band support, and still not get LTE working. So there is the risk of spending the $25, only to not get any better LTE signal.

The OP has the Hong Kong version, not Sprint Harmon Kardon. Those variants are very different from each other.
For your Sprint version, you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/unlock-bands-qualcomm-device-phone-t2880239
It won't work for the OP (only works on Sprint and Verizon version M8).
And not even guaranteed on sprint, don't know about the HK version but on non - HK sprint,it didn't

Hi All! I am considering converting my Sprint M8 to the unbranded version stock, because I'm from africa and I can't get 4G signale on it, however I'm not a huge technophile and I'm worried about bricking my phone. I was hoping that some of you smart folks may be able to offer some insight. Can someone point me to the safest and simplest way to do the conversion?
My phone is s-off and unlocked and rooted
Thank so much in advance!
You cannot convert the Sprint version to another version by RUU or flashing firmware, if that is what you are referring to. It won't work, and a permanent radio brick may result!
You can try the following (but I can't personally vouch for it - proceed with caution):

Thanks for you answer, I follow all the instructions in the link you give me
First I changed the cid and the mid to google CID and MID
and then I flashed with the GPE rom
after that I found my self stuck on the bootloader screen and the phone won't startup
I don't know if I do something wrong or maybe with sprint I cannot flash it with any custom rom .
thanks again .

You can't flash "any" ROM (and the guide is a bit misleading with the phrasing on that), but you need a ROM that supports the Sprint M8 version.
The GPE ROM should support all M8 versions (except dual SIM) at least that is what it says for the MM GPE ROM. There may be something else with your phone's setup (like firmware) that is causing a problem. Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number) so we can see more info about the device.

GPE supports only GSM.
For GPE to work on CDMA ... needs porting & kernel support.

1) I discovered that GPE roms in this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589 , has implemented since H10 the "CDMA device on GSM network" option during installation:
I consider it the final solution to make the rom operate on GSM by default.

That's actually meant for Verizon - http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ment/rom-vzw-stock-gpe-5-1-lmy47o-h9-t3212413 as both GSM & VZW share the same ROM.zip where the VZW support already added
This is a stock ROM with very little modifications.
Modifications made to this ROM are for Verizon network connectivity. framework-res.apk for apns.xml and eri.xml, build.prop
Added CDMA device support to stock boot.img

I Read it (This will NOT work on a CDMA HTC One GSM ONLY! )
Then there is no solution to enable 4G signale on my area ?

As @redpoint73 said, you don't really need GPE ROM. You can install any GSM ROM with Sprint support added.
If you still want GPE ROM with Sprint support, you can try my GPE ROM linked in my signature or try other GPE ROM ported for Sprint here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-htc-one-m8/development
But I doubt it will work as there is a note about Global LTE on Sprint
- Sprint hardware supports 800 and 2600 mhz only on bands 26 and 41, and does not accept european 20 (800mhz) and 7 (2600 mhz). So I think does not support any kind of european LTE at all and edit NV values is frustrating useless.
try with the rom in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-htc-one-m8/general/updating-sprint-htc-one-m8-harman-t3369235
The first question could be "why a sprint phone"?
Sprint devices are the worst choice for who live outside the usa, cause is locked in everything and needs
1) SIM unlock (by code or javacard)
2) Software unlock, by a new rom after a bootloader unlock
3) Patience, cause 4G LTE bands are locked from hardware. Change codes MV is useless and often dangerously.
If you want 4G, I can only advice to sell it to who have a supported carrier (I know vodafone, tim and 3 in Italy uses same LTE bands of sprint devices). The only good thing, if you not support 4G, your battery will last longer.
