New update causes no wifi - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just noticed an update on my t700 today. I installed it and after it rebooted it won't turn on wifi. It shows turning on but never actually turns on. Did a factory reset but didn't help. Shows build number KOT49H.T700XXU1ANK2
Has anyone else had this problem?
If I root and install a custom rom will I get wifi back?
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

I'm running same rom on my and don't have issues. Try another obin flash.

This was Ota update. I'll have to figure out how to use Odin. I just bought this and the note 4. These are my first samsung products. Thanks

I just updated without issue. Did you try a factory reset?

Yea I did a factory reset. I took it back to staples and exchanged it. I've only had it a week and after the Ota update the wifi wouldn't work. Now I'm afraid of updating the new one.

I updated five days ago using the odin file from the samsung-update site. Didn't have any wifi issues until today. When I reboot, wifi is on but it doesn't remember my saved networks or wifi passwords. I just did another odin this evening but this forum isn't giving me any hope for success.

Flashing ANY stock kernel (signed boot.img) will wipe your WIFI passwords and settings. The stock kernel may be included in the OTA or within the full firmware package.
This is normal and not an "issue". If you are not rooted, you just need to enter again, with root you are able to restore settings easily (if backed up).

I understand.
However, I ODIN'd the latest NK2 (wiped everything) earlier this week, re-setup my phone including wifi passwords and everything was running great until I rebooted yesterday. For whatever reason, the phone stopped remembering my saved networks after reboots.

Ota update failed problem

Well here is the problem .
I was in the university when I noticed the latest update is available for n7100! so I started to download it with my 3g connection downloaded about 10 mb and I noticed that I dont have enough airtime credit left to download it so I canceled the download. When I got home I tried to download it with wifi connection and it says it's the latest update what do I do I want the update sooo bad
Can any one who installed the update give some info about the os version and new features ?
Is there a flashable file of the new rom?
" Don't tell me that was a false update message and there is no such thing for now my heart can't handle that "

There used to be the OTA files update only available on sammobile, however I don't know if they're available anymore or not.
Secondly, it's not possible to say what has been upgraded until we don't know on what version you were/are atm, and what will be the updated version.
And lastly, when you are doing things like this, you need to have an unlimited plan or something.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Take backup of important data and factory reset, it may solve issue. But you have to download update again and rarely I have experienced still fails to update. In such cases kies/odin only can solve.

I'm having the same issue. Phone declares it is modified when it reboots, so it is related to being rooted. Been investigating to no avail.
Have fiddles with triangle away settings and SuperSU's survival mode.
Finally got there. Unfroze all frozen apps with Titanium backup, uninstalled busybox, xposed framework etc - i.e. used option in app to remove from rom. Not sure which of these got it working.
Killed off my root, but CF autoroot again and all is good. New rom seems more responsive initially, will have to see about battery life etc in the long term.
Update: The wifi would not work after update. Flashed afresh using kies, and all sorted.

Wifi broken after OTA update to 4.3

Updated to 4.3 this morning from rooted stock 4.1.2. Rebooted and tried to turn on wifi. It tries to turn on for one second and then turns off.
Powered off, pulled battery, same thing. I'm not too worried about it since I did a full backup before installing. Anybody else having the same issue or know how to fix this?

You backup won't be any good. The update changed your boot loader. You're stuck until a new root etc is made.

[Q] Wi-fi issues across the board. What should I do?

Hello XDA community, my brother has been having wi-fi and bluetooth issues on his T-MO Note II ever since applying the 4.3 OTA. Before I go on, the first thing I did was use CF-auto root and flash both agni pure stock and devil kernel and neither of them have worked. In addition, I have used dr.ketans patch as well as flashing some AOSP based ROMs such as AOKP and SlimKat and neither of them have yielded any results. I have tried almost everything I can find via XDA and I am truly stumped.
Do you guys have any solutions to the wifi issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :good:
Can you elaborate, what wifi issues ?
Frequent disconnects ?
Battery drains ?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Wi-fi wil not turn on whatsoever. I can press the icon to turn it on and it will slide to the on position greyed out, and then go back to off right away. The same for bluetooth as well.
If the phone was already on 4.3 then wifi patch was not needed.
I would advise to flash stock image and start fresh. Make sure to wipe dalvik-cache after flashing stock ROM.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Thanks, I will try that when I can. By any chance do you know where I can find a 4.3 image? I've tried looking into the stickies over at the Dev section and they don't have 4.3 as far as I can recall. The only 4.3 image I see is the stock root injected one from Mr.Robinson.
You can download one from sammobile.com. You will have to register though, make sure you download the file for sgh-t889.

I just wanted to say thank you to both ciphercodes and Squilchi for all your help. My brother also says a big thanks as he doesn't have an account here. When the Note II finished rebooting from the image flash via Odin, I almost freaked out because nothing had seemingly changed but then I realized I was already on the 4.3 OTA. I also had an spectacular noob moment by forgetting to wipe cache in stock recovery. After I did that, I am glad to report that Wi-fi and bluetooth work as it's supposed to. I can't say thank you enough. In the odd occasion that this should happen again, a wipe of cache in stock recovery should be okay correct?

Glad to know issue was resolved. By default it's highly unlikely that these problems will return on a stock ROM but if they do then flashing back to stock is the most optimal solution.
Unfortunately I may have spoken too soon. Wi-Fi was working just fine for a bit but suddenly it can't connect to the network nor see any other networks. It can still turn on but connecting to remembered networks and seeing other networks are a no-go. Bluetooth is wonky as well. I'm starting to think it's hardware but I doubt it.

I have yet to wipe data since it seemed okay although the notion has been floating in my head. I did wipe cache and shortly after, it didn't work. Just a little update, I booted to stock recovery and performed a factory reset and wipe cache partitions but still nothing after it booted. To answer your question, I did use Odin 3.09 and it was already on MK7 prior to my first flash of the tar file in Odin. This is so frustrating.
Sorry for the double post, but I just did a factory reset and wipe cache and just re-flashed the tar file with update bootloader ticked and still a no-go. It's a shame the 4.3 update has borked my brother's Note II to this extent but it seems like the majority of people don't experience this. I'm stumped....

Prior to all this madness, I did try flashing JediMasterX2(I think) and AOKP, two ROMs that I would heavily associate with being stable and basically have everything work. Unfortunately, they didn't work. After all that went down and I restored my backed-up OTA all the way to now, it has been on MK7 stock kernel since then. I'm about to flip a table or something.

New issues in stock Marshmallow

Today I flashed the Marshmallow stock firmware (from general section).
I rooted it successfully using CFAR method.
I registered my fingerprint and chose it to unlock screen and it was ok...until I restarted the phone there was a message appeared
((Unable to use fingerprint to unlock, enter backup password ))
What is the problem?
And when I trying to enable the Reactivaton Lock it doesn't activate.
I am still in stock recovery.
Any fixes?[emoji30]
Updated :-
#1) If anybody get MM OTA please tell us ,did you notice the fingerprint issue when you restarted your device?
Fix: Maybe it's a normal thing. not an issue.
#2)Today after I restored my EFS partitions backup by using flashfire app my fingerprint doesn't work at all.
Fix: Maybe the ID information included in efs partition so the fix is wipe system, data, cache and dalvik cache then odin the pc1 firmware again or get OTA.
#3) Some apps don't have permission to write to external SD card.
Fix(partial): Backup your files in external SD card then format the SD card inside the mobile..... After that you'll find some apps have the permission to write to external SD card and some of them don't have... For now I don't know why some apps still don't have permission to do that.
I know there's a feature in Marshmallow that you can make the external storage as a portable or internal storage but I don't find it in our note 4.
#4) Sometimes the screen doesn't turned off automatically and still awake although it setting is to turn off after 1 minute.
Fix:
#5) How to find a solution to hide the external storage notification message?

Just Odin to OK1 and then take the Ota update in System Update tab in Settings. It's the safer way to avoid getting problems. I don't have that issue you mentioned.

I installed the OTA last night and turned on Ultra Power Saving Mode. I selected the option from the drag down menu to turn it off. I was prompted to select my launcher. This appears to be the new normal. With stock MM on the note 4 I have to enter the password to open the phone after a reboot. After that the fingerprint reader works normally until the next reboot. Anyone have any different behavior?

There are a lot of differences between utilizing Odin and OTA. What differences are going to affect this issue in particular would take some research but doing things the "right" way sometimes takes longer in the short term but almost always saves headaches in the long run.
If I were you I would do some research on how Odin transfers, correlates and then installs data as opposed to the way its done via OTA. It would be a lot to type on here, but the way that I always think about it is this... Its always better to install stock software the stock method and then modify from a solid base rather than starting with potentially modified software, modified installation (there's a lot of room for error between someone extracting the data, uploading it, you downloading it, you placing it into Odin, transferring that data via USB to your phone, then the software actually installing) and then modifying on top of those modifications.... It's simple and complicated.

It will be a long jurney because I haven't got the OK1 tar file...I have to odin the OJ6 tar then take the OTA OK1.
After that I have to take the MM PC1 OTA.
All that with a limited bandwidth and internet speed of 1Mbps only.
So I'll wait until there will be a stable and good rom to flash.

I'm not able to get 3g work!
I tried to restore efs partition through Twrp recovery and re odin the rom but with no success.
I checked 3g settings with DFS and everything seems to be ok!
Any ideas, please?

Hi there! I have updated my Note 4 via OTA to 6.0.1. Just wanted to ask can I go back to 5.1.1 to gain back root and custom recovery for installing custom roms ?
Thanx

You can easily get root and custom recovery without any problems in Marshmallow 6.0.1.
You don't have to go back to 5.1.1 to do these things.
Use chainfire Auto-Root to root.
And twrp recovery all from download mode.

In past I was more interested in custom roms.
But know I prefer Stock rooted roms.
So I didn't try any custom MM roms because until now all custom MM roms are beta and maybe not stable.
So wait until one of the developers releases a stable custom rom.
