is it me or can you not find music videos on the youtube app? anyone know why this is? you can get them on normal youtube so why not on the app?
Could you be more specific?? I don't have any problem finding a music video... Just try 'official music video' as a search query. I get music-videos-a-plenty!
basically, i can search the name of the song or the name of the song + official or the name of the band etc, and i get nothing like the results u get in a browser, i get very few actual music videos and sometimes none at all. lots of live stuff and interviews but no music vids.
I get the same thing. I can search 1 thing on the internet and then again on the app and get completely different results
Well, I do know YouTube is trying to ban copyrighted material asmuch as possible. Music videos included. So maybe, as one of the measures taken, the searches from mobile devices are filtered...
Hi all,
I'm running Miri v18 fantastic ROM, and youtube is working well...
But I cannot find my last published video!!!!
Using the same search string on Opera it comes the first on the results list (of course I cannot play it), but in the dedicated program it says "No video found". I've tried searching by the code, and other options with no results... Tried in different ROMs, so a cache problem is not possible.
Can it be a problem of regional settings of the app (I use youtube.es to upload videos)???
I don't find nothing on the Reg to change, either config file...
Thanks a lot for this incredible site!!!!
the youtube app seems to have a slight delay searching new video's (maybe not a direct search or video's need to be converted for mobile use)
vids will come up in about two days; i'm having the same 'problem'
I've lost track a little bit about all new stuff and questions about Froyo so if this was already mentioned please ignore it, and it maybe deserves to go to some other thread but i felt it's really important.
I read people complained about issue where froyo now plays embeded youtube video in browser which is rather slow. And it still plays it this new way if you press full-screen button, but... it only does this if you are in portrait mode. If you are in LANDSCAPE mode and you press full-screen it lets you choose weather you want to play it using browser or youtube app, like it worked on 2.1. For me this is a great news. If you already knew it sorry for spam.
EDIT: You might need to hit play before clicking on full screen. Just tested...
I've noticed on a few forum based websites when people imbed video clips such as youtube ones, I can't play them.
They either appear as a blank area which does nothing when I click on it or I just get an egg timer come up but the video never loads.
Only happens on my Desire and not on my laptop.
Phones arn't properly built to really play embedded video. Skyfire does play it a lot better than all other browsers but the website also needs to optimize it for phones but they don't. This isn't an issue as such, just something that needs to be addressed.
Thanks very much for the reply.
I noticed yesterday that even when I click on a link to a youtube clip (an address not just an imbedded video link) it seems to simply take me to a main youtube menu screen with a number of clips on it but not the actual clip I was linking to?!!
Anyone any ideas why that might be?
Download Miren Browser from the market en make sure you have flash installed. Then it should work
Then set the user agent to Default browser or Chrome. This way you can also view clips that are disabled for mobile view.
I have dl/ed Soul Player and Mvideo player to attempt to watch some of my movies, the movies play just fine in WinMo. I notice the movies (those that will load) will just do nothing, they do not give an error that the file can not play but they also do not play at all However the time does countdown on the file as though it is playing the file (like it will say 5 seconds into the movie). If I move the scroll bar the screen will show that particular frame then be stuck on that frame.
am i missing something, there doesn't appear to be a stock movie player with android.
this affects multiple movies btw and the quality is fine in winmo..
There isn't a 'stock' movie player that I know of.
This is expected behavior (if you will). The codecs in Android do not make full use of the hardware for whatever reason - hyc has pushed the libs a little farther than they are capable of currently, but he was never able to match WinMo... We're still missing something on the Android side of things.
HQ YouTube has this same issue - seems videos above a certain resolution do not play nice. I'll have to do some searching to find hyc's posts on this topic, something you should've already done...
I got a large number of hits on it when I searched the issue but nothing providing an explanation similar to what you have stated, I suppose I will just continue viewing videos in winmo then.
Thanks for the assistance!

Found hyc's post after a couple minutes of searching.
Searching and reading isn't easy or simple, I don't pretend that it is. Just an essential part of working with any open source project.

That post basically summarizes the conundrum we have with video playback in Android.
