I've been trying to root my Tab S 10.5 (SM-T800) and I'm having problems. The instructions say to put the tablet into "download mode" using either "ADB reboot download" command, which I can't send as it says my Tab S is "offline", or by turning the tablet off and then enter download mode by pressing HOME+VOL DWN+POWER together.
So when I press HOME+VOL DWN+POWER together, the andy screen first says "No Command" then immediately goes to "Device Recovery" mode.
So is the recovery mode the same as download mode? Or is there something else I'm missing?
From what I understand is that there a 2 'modes'.
A 'download mode' , which allows you to flash with Odin.
And a 'Recovery mode', which allows you to make/restore nandroid backups with a custom recovery manager and flash custom roms.
They are 2 different modes.
So when I press HOME+VOL DWN+POWER together, the andy screen first says "No Command" then immediately goes to "Device Recovery" mode.

This I don't get either. Samsung's stock download mode should be something like this:
See Attachment
How does this happen? You sure you're pushing the right buttons? Is USB plugged in? I'm curious because it seems that I cannot reproduce this with my Tab S. It just always goes the stock download mode (see attached image).
Hope that answers your question

recovery is diff than download mode. note that the vol buttons are swapped on the Tab S, i.e. vol down = the rocker closer to the power button.

I am on MR4 and when I try to boot into Recovery from Clockwork, it goes to a screen with the Red icon indicating it is dead. I have to pull the battery to restart the phone. If I go to Clockwork and reflash the recovery, I can get in, but it only lasts for one restart.
Any ideas?
By "red icon" did you mean a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it?
If so then, what you needed to do to get into recovery from there is press "volume up + power".
It might show an error at the bottom when you do this. If it did, you just have to repeatedly press "volume up + power" until you get some options at the top of the screen and choose "apply update.zip"

Yes - so this has to be done every time? How do I get into recovery just with the phone off then?
From your phone being off, hold down "volume down + power" to get to a fast boot screen (a white screen with android logo at the bottom).
Your phone will be doing some file checking at the beginning of fast boot and it's going to take a minute or two.
Press volume down to reject the two updates. Choose go to Recovery when you can get to it. You'll be taken to the familiar screen with "red icon" from there.
FYI, browsing on fast boot is done by "volume up/down" for navigating and "power button" to confirm choice.
Okay, so my problem is simple, I can't boot into recovery at all. Every time I try to boot up recovery, my phone shows the little Android dude and just gives me the option to "Start". Nothing else, even when I press the volume key down or up, does nothing! My phone is also looping on the CyanogenMod screen so I can't even go into the phone itself.
Also, when I try to use unroot my phone, it says "ADB can not be found", I install the USB driver manually, and it still says the same exact thing. I'm pretty much all out of options, hopefully someone here can help. I'll be very grateful.
error
Error
More info please.
What was the last ROM/kernel you flashed.?
What recovery are you using?
Did this just started after installing a ROM, kernel or mod..?
More details please...

What buttons are you pressing to get into your bootloader? I assume you are holding the volume "down" button and pressing the power key. This gets you into Odin Mode and only allows you to boot the phone normally by pressing the power key for "start." You need to hold down the volume "up" AND "down" keys at the same time to enter the correct bootloader with the recovery mode option. Once you are booted into recovery just restore your phone to a nandroid backup you have created that you know works.
So I have a rooted tab s 8.4 wifi and I am using skyhigh kernel. I tried to boot into recovery and it went straight to download mode without any prompt. I got it out and tried backing up my ROM using the TWRP Manager app. It then booted into download mode and wont come out. if I hold power+volume down it will reboot but just goes back into download mode. Any ideas??? I dont have access to a computer for a while either!
Hold power, vol down, and home for 30 seconds or more and it should reboot. Hope this helps!

It just restarts and goes to the download mode prompt where I can select cancel or continue. Both options lead me nowhere. It still boots into download mode everytime

Then you have defective main partition and need to flash from download mode anyway.
Other option is to boot into recovery (hold power, volup, home).
In another thread someone told to hold Power + VOL up + VOL down. It worked for my tab.
I flashed something that was incompatible with my version of android and my phone is stuck in a boot loop, aside from that my power button is broken so I cannot simply press volume down and power to get into recovery. When I use the command "adb devices" on my computer while on the boot screen my phone comes up but says it's unauthorized. I can get into download mode though. Do I have any options besides re-installing android altogether from download mode?

Download KDZ and use normal mode to flash it
It should overwrite all partitions except /data and your phone will still retain its data

How did you damage your power button mate? DAMN !!! That's horrible! Send the phone in for repairs! You can't really operate the phone with a broken power button.. Try this link to get your device working again.. I'm afraid that you need to download the appropriate KDZ file for your device and use the LG Flash tool to restore your device.. Good luck!!:fingers-crossed:
Good evening,
During a wipe cache by mistake I restarted the phone, precisely when formatting the partition of the directory / cache.
Now when I turn on the cell, the message "ASUS in search of incredible" and soon after appears a "icon Android" with the words Error! that does not allow me to go to the home of Android.
How I can via the PC back to the initial conditions?
I followed the guide with adb but I can not get into recovery mode because I always appear "Error!" There is a way to reflash the ROM without entering recovery mode?like ODIN on SAMSUNG?
Thank you
I got this"error" while trying to get to Stock recovery, I pressed the volume up and it took me back. If that or pressing the other button doesn't work you can always try installing the tethered recovery

i can eneter only in fastboot in recovery mode no.. always ERROR!.. i'm not expert.. you can explain me how i can do with this tethered recovery? which is the steps?
thanks
When in Fastboot and selecting 'recovery mode' you will get that "Error" on the screen. The next step is a little tricky. You have to press and hold the power button, then press the volume up button. It may take a few tries. Both buttons will have to be pressed together simultaneous to enter Android system recovery. Please also see http://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1011956/

You should see "ERROR" not "NO COMMAND" when you see the "ERROR" Press (also hold) power key and then press (then release) volume up key.
