Hey guys, first post here and I'm wondering if there is any reason or fix to get headphones that go in at a right angle to fit into my Note 2. By right angle I mean the kind of headphones who's jacks turn to the side at the end (can't post image)
My straight headphones as found in something like standard apple headphones works fine so I wonder why this doesn't.
If anyone could tell me it would be greatly appreciated.

1. Is the headphone working with other devices?
2. Check if the length of the silver part of the jacks are of the same length/width.

They are working on any other device I have tried.
They are the same length and width
It seems like any headphone with a "right angle ending" does not work, I have tried 3 different headphones and a cassette but none are being detected
There will be a push button in right angeled handsfree. These handsfrees are mostly made for small phones/mostly nokia phones. When you will press the button it will give you output but when you release it, it will be soundless again.

I want to use my note as a camcorder with external mic hooked to it.
I had problems with the SGS2 and my wireless microphone - it just didn't receive voice to the recording. same issue with the RAZR.
Can I expect same issues with the note?
Have anyone tried connecting a MIC to the note?
Thanks
I have ordered this . http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007N55K0

so there isn't any solution for this? anyone knows?
irig mic cast
I tested these mics in vegas (ces) and they both worked fine on my note:
w ww.ikmultimedia.com/irigmic
and
w ww.ikmultimedia.com/irigmiccast
I've ordered the small one here:
w ww.thomann.de/gb/ik_multimedia_irig_mic_cast.htm
They told me that it should be available in april.

newbie here, looking for external mic info. one thing's for sure, you need to use the right connector. this is a 4 contact miniature jack standard to samsung and iphone. the nokia version is slightly smaller just to annoy people. the 4th connection carries external video connection so its' important to get the right audio connections, available from your friend google. also, you'll possibly have to tell the recorder which mic to use in settings somewhere. i use an excellent app called recforge pro.
good luck all
for the intrepid, as long as you get the right connections, any mic will do but the electret type are probably the best budget jobs. damage is extremely unlikely, unless you connect to the domestic electricity supply, a useful idiot-rid.
irig mic cast
Just an update on this:
I've finally received the irig mic cast and it works great with my note
How does it compare to the inbuilt mic?
Any chance you could upload some wav samples of each under the same conditions for reference?
I'm thinking about getting it, or something like it, to use with Audio Evolution and Loopstack.
thanks,
Rich
It's definitely clearer than the built in mic.
Also it's got a small volume switch for high/low sensitivity.
Another thing is that it's quite directional, which means that it records clearly the audio source in front of the mic and pads the background noise.
I'll record some files for you over the weekend.
Thanks.
One other thing, can you confirm that the headphone monitor out on the Mic Cast works with the Note?
ie. if you plug headphones in, can you hear what you are recording?
thanks,
Rich
Does the iRig MIC Cast work on the Note for regular phone calls and Voice-Over-IP apps like GrooveIP?
Hey everybody,
I'm also looking for an external mic however I'm after some sort of extension 3.5 cable to use the phone as a camera.
Cheers,
Ego

Sorry about the late reply. The real time monitoring feature is not available in any of the apps which I tested (e.g. Tape Machine Recorder, etc). I think that developers keep such a function disabled on purpose due to the well known latency issue on GB and ICS. Let's hope that google fixes this in Jelly Bean...

It works well for regular phone calls and skype, therefore it should work with other voip apps as well. If you use it for phone calls/voip you have to connect a set of hearphones/speakers to the sound output of the irig mic cast as the internal speaker of the note gets muted.

Just plug in the irig mic cast and then turn it around so that the front of the mic is on the same side as the camera lens. In this case I'd set the mic sensitivity switch to "hi".
Thanks for the info.

Nice! I use PCM Recorder to record acoustic gigs and the internal mic is way too sensitive to the point of distortion.
Does the iRig mic alleviate this with the sensitivity button?
Thanks!

Hi there,
As I was poking around I stumbled upon the above extermal mike, the seller claims to be the only one selling compatible external wired microphones. I'll keep you updated as soon as I get my hands on it.

Ego,
Hi
New to this forum. I play in a tribute band and we want to record some of our rehearsals. The camera on my note is really good but the external mic is waaaay too sensitive. I did use the supplied earpiece that comes with the note, which has a tiny mic, which worked really well recording really loud music off my mac speakers but not sure it will pick up enough frequencies in the rehearsal room. (I am going to try it live but in the meantime will and will put the recording of my mac up on youtube) However I used to use a Sony ecm ds70p on a mini disc years ago but it has long since gone. The live audio quality was always really good with this little mic so I am thinking of getting another one. As far as I am aware the Sony has only a three pole 3.5mm jack but I would need a mic with a 4 pole 3.5mm jack, (I think I have that right???) to be able to record into the Note.
Can someone confirm whether this mic will work out of the box...I have a feeling not...or is there a converter jack that I can buy that would allow the use of the three pole jack in a 4 pole socket. Really hoping this is possible and that there is something out there..problem is I am not too sure how to word a google or forum search on this.
Any help would be really great.
Many thanks
Think you guys might find this interesting. Just plugged in the standard ear buds halfway through and used the tiny mic on there...
I am not allowed to post the link as I haven't done enough posts! If you go to youtube and search for

This Microphone can't work. Look:
A headphone 4 pins (sound + mic) have 4 contact, beginning for the point are : Sound Left, Sound Right, Ground, Microphone.
If You see the 3º contact of microphone Sony is big then others. It make contact whit Ground + Microphne. Are short circuited.
Can't work this.
A external Mic can work but w/ a connector 4 pins, using only the 3º and the 4º contact (the 2 side cable).

Look here:

The connector have 4 contacts. The 1º and 2º from the point are the sound to white cable. The 3º is ground (common) and 4º are the Mic to black cable.
The question here is. This is a normal 3,5 pin like on Android's or is proprietary from Apple? On that site enter on Store and choice the Dealer more near You.

Even I had the same problem! It was a problem with my headphones not the audio jack!
Sometimes it is not phone or headphone problem. did you push jack hard when you want to plug in? I mean are u sure that the jack is fully plugged in?
I too have had this problem. I've tried two different 'audio jack to audio jack' cables (to plug into the car and a stereo) and they both have this problem. I've tried 3 sets of headphones and only one works okay. The ones that work are the Samsung headphones that came with the phone, which is interesting. They all used to work okay, it's just the last few weeks this has happened.
I've tried pushing them all the way in, but the only thing that works is, if you're looking at the screen, pushing the jack slightly to the right. Does anyone know if there's a simple hardware fix, like tightening something? I've googled this (thought it might be a general problem on other devices) but couldn't find anything.
Odp: Audio Jack problem on Ace 2
I have the same problem Samsung headphones works fine, rest breaks. I think about putting my Ace to guarantee.
I've tried 5 sets of headphones and 2 audio-jack-to-audio-jack cables. The only one that works okay is the Samsung headphones that came with the phone. How can this be? Planned obsolescence? Surely not. Just bad build quality maybe?
If anyone's interested, a short-term fix is a triangular piece of paper placed in the hole before you plug the headphones in. I have to push my jack to the right, so I put the paper on the left. Apparently pieces of drinking straws work and last longer.
Same problem.
Only samsung headphones work. My philips headphones that work on pc and another phones fine don't work on Ace2.

Try to hold jack (heads) right. It work but isn't a solution because is imposible to hold this way more than 1 minute and walk

Hello people.
I have a problem with my headphones when plugged in my HTC Desire, when i plug them in the phone shows me they are plugged in but only one headphone works (the left one), i have to mention the headphones are 4 pin ones (mic + 1 button) and mic and button works good but the right headphone doesn't . They are not faulty as i use them in my laptop and they work good. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

Take a needle, and try scraping the bottom of the phone headphone plug. Dirt usually gets stacked there, and it needs cleaning from time too time.
Not working, same problem. If it take them out a little so that the phone doesn't recognize the microphone ring (connector on jack) they work good, when i plug them back in just left one works (the one with the microphone).

Maybe your headphones are not compatible with your phone. I remember people saying something about connections not being standard on the phone so some headphones won't work properly. Try some other headphones and see if the same thing happens

I tried some samsung headphones today, same 4pin with mic, on these ones the right one works but the left doesn't. It's becoming really annoying as they sometimes work as they should and the rest of the time just the left one works

Then it's 100% socket problem. If abaaa's advice didn't help you probbably the welding on the socket got loose. For that you need to disassemble your phone and see which contact is bad with a magnifying glass

The socket feels solid in it's place and i don't have a magnifying glass around.

It should feel solid. Problem is that welds come a little loose. Try to move your headphones jack in the socket in all directions. If they play fine at some moment it's the weld

I am currently using the headset that came stock with my Z1c. However, there (or on Sony in-ears in general), the left plug has a short cable while the longer put-it-behind-your-neck cable is attached to the right plug. This feels just soo wrong to me.
Is there a way to switch left and right channel on the headphones (based on software, not physically hacking the headset)?

Hey guys,
Bought some nice headphones with the 3 button control on it. The center button works for pausing/playing and skipping to the next track, but the volume controls don't work for some reason... Can I do something to get them working? Maybe download something? Change some settings?
Thank you!
I don't think the phone supports that, did you try the mic? In some of the three buttons headsets the mic does not work.
Mic does not work either, is there a way to make the headset supported?
Have you tried Tasker?
Not very familiar with the program? Could you recommend what to do?

From my point of view, you can always try to create a profile for your headphones, that can control the way you want, signing buttons to work like you want. You can always use other automate programs but, tasker is the most complete and powerful IMO.
If you can not use it, our can't find the your way to work with it there's always a wiki for it (just search for it) our try to use others like "Smartkey" or "RemoteControl for Earphones" (search playstore).
I tried an app called headset button controller and it recognized the center button clicks but did not recognize the volume button clicks. Can I somehow in tasked or another program get the volume buttons to recognize?
It sounds like you've got a iPhone compatible headset rather than an android one. I've only just started looking into this myself (as I'm in the market for a new headset) but as I understand it Apple have swapped the pin out on the TRRS connector. I think there might be adapters available if you're married to you're current headset but I haven't really investigated that as I haven't bought anything yet and I think an adapter would end up being clumsy.
On mobile so don't have my links in front of me but hopefully that's enough to give you an appropriate Google query.

The headset I have has an extension that I put on to make the cord longer, I wouldn't mind buying the trrs adapter and using this new cable/adapter instead of my current one.... Would this fix my problem of the buttons not working?

Hiya,
I finally got around to doing some more research into this, apparantly there are two different issues with using Apple headsets with Android devices.
1 - Wiring change on 3.5mm TRRS connector. - This is why the microphone doesn't work for calls, Apple changed the pin out on the headphone jack to the reverse of most other manufacturers. This is the problem that can be solved by the adapter I was talking about originally.
2 - Different resistance on the button commands. - In addition to the wiring changes Apple also use a different electrical resistance on the buttons (and have patented their specific level). The adapter doesn't fix this unfortunately so even with it the buttons still won't work.
Looks like there isn't a solution to #2 unfortunately so it might be time to start looking at a different headset entirely.
Sorry for getting your hopes up with my original post.
