[Q] Keep app data after ODIN flash? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I'm used to flashing on Nexus devices (and HTC) but kind of a noob when it comes to Samsung's ODIN tool.
I would like to flash a new stock firmware on my Tab S 10.5 but I have a couple of questions:
1/ is there any way to keep my app data without using Titanium Backup? (i.e. does ODIN wipe all app data when flashing and can I avoid doing that by "dirty flashing"?)
2/ can I flash any ROM from any region? My Tab S has a French firmware on it but the ROM I wanna flash is from a different region.
Thanks for your help!
PS: I did search on XDA before posting but I didn't find any thread regarding keeping my app data.

[Q] will the Root without counter trip make me loose data?

Hi
I'm new to this forum with my samsung galaxy S3 AT&T version
This is in reference to a rooting technique mentioned in another forum.
The question is this... flashing of stock rooted kernel will cause me to loose data/apps or not?
will I have to reinstall all the apps and copy the data again ?
I have working kies on my system. I can take the backup of the data in that , but will i have to install all the apps again?
If I try to flash without factory reset as I have build LG1 on my mobile and it is no longer on AT&T network

[Q] Returning to Stock

Hi All,
So I wanted to go back to a stock TW nandroid i made after rooting so that I could get the official sammy JB rom only to find out that my external SD card where I have all my backups is pooched....
My question is, can I use Mobile Odin to flash a stock image right from my device? I am using a mac and don't have enough free space to setup a virtual machine.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Says all the details just for that too. lemme just quote the parts that you are asking about.
"Mobile ODIN will attempt to detect if the OTA wants to flash kernels, recoveries, and modems, and if so will compare the signatures to your currently installed kernel, recovery, and modem. Should the comparison fail, it will offer you the choice to disable the check and the patch inside the OTA. This will allow you to flash the OTA without switching away from your current custom kernel or switching to whichever modem the OTA expects. Of course, if you have selected a kernel, recovery, or modem to flash, it will compare against the selected image instead of the currently installed one.
Mobile ODIN will also compare the OTA's fingerprint checks against the current system fingerprint. If the fingerprint does not match, Mobile ODIN will offer you the choice to disable the check inside the OTA. If you have selected a system image to flash, it will try to find out the image's fingerprint instead. It is not generally recommend to patch out the fingerprint, but sometimes it is needed.
It will also go through all the file signature checks inside the OTA, and compare to the current system files. If files are found to differ Mobile ODIN will offer you the choice to disable the checks and patches inside the OTA. When you have the wrong CSC flashed, it is common for a small number of files (30 or so) to differ. These files usually don't really matter for the firmware's operation. Note that this check will not be performed if you have selected a system image to flash - all files must match signatures in that case, or the OTA will fail." this is from the thread good luck updating

yes mobile odin will work. I used the lite version last week to restore to stock because i was too lazy to get my computer. it does work and you could use ever root if you want to keep it rooted or just flash a stock rooted img. the new official sammy jb rom rooted is now available for you to flash via odin so i'd suggest that.

Will flashing 4.1.2 Stock Rom on N7105 mess the IMEI?

Hi all,
I'm planning to flash my phone back to 4.1.1 via Odin and then to to 4.1.2 firmware, found on Sammobile to carry out the unlock method.
However, I am on the DMF2 baseband, and have heard that flashing a new modem over this will mess up the IMEI.
Will this happen if I'm only flashing a stock rom over it?
Thanks in advance!
I used to flash 4.1.1 stock ROMs onto my N7100 from 4.1.2
I would go into a bootloop after flashing it but booting to recovery and wiping data and cache solved my problem. Just backup your EFS to be on the safe side though

flashing new modem will not mess up IMEI.
but to be safe, back up your EFS before you do.
Normally IMEI will be messed up if EFS corrupted during the flashing.
Most of the time, it will happened if you change ROM with different base version (and normally happened when you never read the instructions of the OP very well).
So, when you want to downgrade, please do backup your EFS first (especially if you are coming from 4.3, due to different bootloader/partition of internal storage).

[Q] Stock Recovery question.

I have the SM-T210 with no root and no custom ROMS or recoveries or stuff like that.. and my device recently got blessed with KitKat in Italy. Can this stock Italian KitKat rom be flashed in the stock recovery of my device?
Any help will be apprechiated.

Download Italian FW from sammobile.com, then flash it via Odin (search XDA for detailed guide). IMO this is the safest method. I think that difference between device and FW country variant can cause problems, but I can't verify my tougths - CWM installed In fact I'm not sure if it's possible at all to flash full ROM (not an OTA update) using stock recovery.
However if you really want to try (at your own risk) here's a guide for you, download FW as mentioned above and proceed from point No. 2.

[Q] Galaxy TabPro 10.1 T520 unroot

hello,
i want to unroot my device and restore completely to stock and having hard time finding any tutorials on how to do it. Im running 4.4.2 stock rooted rom build# KOT49H.T520UEUAND1.
my specific questions is where do i get the stock original firmware for USA Wifi version, how to install it and how do i take off my TWRP custom recovery and restore it to stock.
Im not new to the whole rooting and unrooting deal as ive done it with numerous smartphones with no problems just i dont want to mess anything up with my tablet. a simple guide will be satisfactory thanks!
Go to sammobile.com. Click on the Firmware Tab and search for your model. If you are in the USA, use the cellular South firmware. Download it. Unzip the file. Use Odin to load it on your tablet (if you need instructions, let me know). It will wipe your recovery and unroot the tablet. You should also factory reset before and after loading. You will be back to stock
hey thanks man!
Thanks, I had same question.
