Want a bigger screen and better battery life? If not, keep the S3.
I'm not sure what type of answer you want without knowing your preference.

Id wait for the note3 if u can
Had the S3 before the note 2. And the Note 2 is a lot faster then S3. But with the S4 coming in a month maybe you should hold off.
I love my note 2, I won't replace it until the note 3 comes out

I was in the same predicament. I have the original Galay S 4g and was wanting to upgrade as the phone was experiencing some problems. I debated whether to wait another 7-9 months for the Note 3, but ultimately decided I could keep this phone for at least 2-3 years before needing to upgrade (especially with all the ROM support that kept my old phone alive and will most certainly keep the N2 alive for years).
I believe the N3 will have a faster processor, better battery and slightly better battery but won't be 'revolutionary' (much like the Galaxy S4). IMO, it'll take at least another generation before the phone will be significantly upgraded to make waiting worth it.
The N4 will most likely have a smaller footprint, near indestructible glass and perhaps a flex screen/wraparound. To me, that'd be worth it. Until then, I'm waiting on my Note 2 to arrive and will enjoy it for the next couple of years. Plus, the fact you can pick one up for $550-$650 new doesn't hurt either compared to the suspected $899 price the N3 will come out for.

Ive been watching prices on Ebay and Craigslist and have seen prices falling to at least these levels if not lower for some models (like the Sprint version) in the past couple of weeks.
Not uncommon to find one below 550 even if you are patient.
The main difference is size. If you like 1 handed use you will hate the note 2. Unless of course you have med to large hands then it my not be an issue.
Things I noticed. I don't use the stylus or multiview anymore.
When I go to the gym I take my s3 as its easier to use hen I'm listening to music.

I don't use the stylus either and often times I think the phone is slightly too big. I like the size of my wife's S3 better. I got the Note2 (back in November 2012) to be future-proof. With LTE around the corner I'm glad I got the Note2. If I was in the market for a new phone now, I would wait for the S4.
Personally I think the north american S3 is more like a S2.5 with the dual core processor and no LTE. The S3 should've had the Note2's quad core processor and LTE modem (Note2 is the pseudo S3). Thus the S4 is more like a S3.5 since we'll probably get the quad core instead of the octo.
As an owner of both devices, I would stay with the the S3. It's a great phone, well built, awesome specs, and a good development for it. It fits more natural in the hand then the note 2.

Good point about LTE. I think once the s4 comes out I'm going to sell both my s3 and note 2 and buy the s4.

You do realize when the s3 released it was spanking phones with quad cores like nvidia 3 Samsung quad core.

I have both
I have both right now I am using the s3 because I dropped my note 2 and cracked the screen. But trust me you want the note2. It is definitly superior to the s3. The battery life is fantastic compared to the s3. With my s3 I had to be rooted and pull out every trick in the book just to be able to deal with it. The note2 has the best battery life ever and thats right out of the box. It is way faster and they already activated the LTE modem in it with the latest update. The s3 will not get the lte modem activated for at least another few months. To me there is no comparison its note2 all the way. I even think the note2 will be better than the s4 or at least comparable. I think the int s4 is getinng a crazy processor I think I misunderstood but it looked like it will have 4 cores running at 1.9 and another 4 running at 1.6 like ours for a total of 8 but I am not too sure of that exactly. I do know that the us version will have the same processore we have now and they are listing the same reason as last time that the new processor isnt compatable with LTE. So I think that if they have a note3 in the works it will get the int s4 processor and that will be the new phone for us note 2 users to get next. Sorry for the long winded answer.

that's because the North American dual core S3 has 2gb of ram while the international quad core S3 and int'l HTC One X (the other quad core phone that came out at the same time) have 1gb. I don't think the north american S3 spanked quad cores, rather it kept up. plus that was 8-9 months ago. My point is that the S3 isn't very future-proof.
Did the north american S3 get multiview from carriers? I know the international version got it and you can hack-add it to the north american S3.
this is a good video comparing the dual core vs quad core S3, but it was made in Summer 2012. I'm curious what the comparison would be like now with newer apps like the Samsung Premium Suite (mutliview, etc).
I worry the S4 will suffer a similar fate. By Christmas 2013 (if not by halloween) we'll see octo-core LTE phones, making the S4's king-of-the-hill status very short lived. imagine the apps that'll come out in 2014 that'll run better on a octo than a quad.
i would get the note 2. i actually just got mine. i was looking to trade my nexus 4 and cash for the note but i find alot of people were trying to screw me over so i just went to tmobile the other day and got it myself. anyways i love stock android and i said i would never had another samsung phone after i had the original galaxy s on sprint but so far i'm liking it. the battery life seems good so far but i'm wait after a week to comment because the battery needs to condition first. i love the multi screen view. i used it to get directions from maps and send them in a text. very handy to me. i wont use it everyday but its there when i need it. plus i wanted to get a sdcard capable phone. also i wanted to future proof myself since lte comes to my area. i get great tmobile service where i live. the S4 and note 3 will have 1080p screens and such and faster processors (only really matters if you do intense things on the phone. i have finally learned that) so taking this into account. i decided on not waiting and i got the note 2. we will never had the latest tech because its new one day and old the next in the tech world.

When you get a new device you're always excited over it. I felt the same about my note 2 a few months ago and praised it. For me multi screen I thought was awesome til I realized it is cumbersome as it didnt launch an app in split view right away. I had to run one app first through multi view then run the other app so it can split. And multiview apps are limited in stock form. Spen was great too as I like to photoshop a lot and that I can write notes and even converts my writing to actual text. Now I don't really use it anymore as I type faster with swiftkey than writing and i dont photoshop as much. Most of the time I forget I have a stylus lol. All the hover stuff I like but thats gonna be in the s4 too which is only a month away so as far as waiting, it isn't too long from now. If we're talking several months then that's a different story IMO. I think the OP should wait it out....

New to this forum, coming over from the Vibrant. Hello everyone!
I just got my note 2 from tmobile. Best upgrade price they could give me was $369, but by adding the phones to my plan rather than upgrading, I was able to get them for 199 each (after rebate.). Then I cancelled my old lines. New numbers, but who cares. That's what I paid for my vibes years ago, and they're running great still (on pacman 4.2.2).
I love this phone. About the only thing I don't like is the bloat, but it doesn't seem to affect it. Maybe I'll root it just to get rid of that, but honestly I don't think it needs it. Battery is awesome as it is.

can u please post a link that enables mutliview in the S3 for USA tmobile?
Can you guys please help me on deciding which phone to get.
The one important that all phones MUST have is a removable battery case. Or else I WOULD NOT even get it.
And the extra features that I read for the S4....Bacisally, I do not do much with those extra features, I only surf the web, email, and basic data gathering. Thats it. I dont care for all those features such as the health or cardio app or whatever they call it. Or reading through pages with your eyes only...I just dont care about that...
So would it be the S3 or the S4? Which one should I get?
The one positive upside to the S4, that it will be more updated than the S3....
Please help in deciding. Thanks!!!!

The S4 is futureproof, S3 will be a hunk of junk by the end of the year - S4 Google Edition is really going to shake things up for the device.
1.9Ghz Quad
Adreno 320 GPU
2GB of Dual Channel DDR3 RAM
Nexus like support
This phone will make it a full 2 years before it feels like a piece of junk, The S3 is already dated now.
I want to get the regular Samsung GALAXY S4.
So, if your saying that the Galaxy S4 will be the winner, then should I get it?
And does it have a removable battery case? If not, then that will blow it....
And it is already available in Europe now or only in the USA at the moment?

Yes it has a removable battery.
So just to confirm, should you guys still recommend the Galaxy S4 instead of the S3?
I was just hesitant to buy an S4 since its still very "mature" and MAY contain or have bugs in various software.

They're both good devices. I disagree in saying the S3 will be obsolete by the end of the year. It is still getting updates (recent addition of multi-window on t-mobile) and should for a while. There's plenty of processing power and it's a very capable phone. A lot of us focus on the latest and greatest, but most users out there will still enjoy a device like the S3 for plenty of time to come.
With that said, the S4 is definitely a more future proof device, and even if you don't use some of the newer features, is an all around better device than the S3. The screen is quite a bit improved and the battery life is better as well.
your on a s4 forum there all gonna tell you to ge the s4..1st off how much are you paying for each, what is your budget? How long do you plan on using the phone? If money is not an issue get the S4, if your tight on money and the price difference is big between the s3 and s4 then go for the s3. Yeah it has a quad core processor but honestly dual core will be fine for what your using it for but yeah give us more info so we can help you with your decision.

In my case, it's S4 all the way. With your needs IMO you should go with the S3. The only downside I see is no LTE. But a huge upside is how cheap they are about to be used. If you don't mind used, I saw 3 "mint" ones at SWAPPA in the $310. range. That is cheap.
s4 all the way
Git it, git it nao !
S4 and dont look back.
The only way I would take a S3 over a S4 is if I got the S3 for free. Then I would sell it to buy a S4.

Exactly! S5 downgrade as far as I'm concerned. I have a strange feeling I'm going to be on Note devices for a long while. Already saving money for the N4.
Just get the Note 4 when it comes out. I thought the whole purpose was screen size?
The note series are the true flagship phones of Samsumg, dont think they knew the goldmine they were sitting on when they released it. Its an insult to get rid of a note 3 so quickly for a galaxy S device when we all know the next note is just a 4-5 months away from being revealed with far superior specs. Enjoy your note 3, galaxy s phones are 4 kehds.

No interest in the S5. The LG G Pro 2 looks pretty sweet, but I'll probably wait for the Note 4. I just hope they don't make it ridiculously big. The HTC One Max and Xperia Z Ultra are too big for my pockets.
If the leaked benchmark scores are correct, the S5 is actually slower then the Note 3. The S5 scored 35k and change where the Note 3 (at least mine on stock) scored 36,922. which isn't anything major. but who wants to buy a new phone thats slower then a phone that was released 4 months ago? I knwo the screen will be higher res, but you wont be able to see the difference anyway.
Plus, no Spen (which is 1 reason I got my Note 3) and a 1/2 inch smaller screen. I highly doubt I'll ever go smaller then the Note 3 at this point going forward. And who's to say it will come with an unlocked bootloader like the Note 3 has.

I dont think it is. Same phone except for bigger screen. Plus now edge 7 has root. If the note has root on release maybe id change my mind.

The mDNIE image processor is unique to the Note 7, and I'm guessing some of that is to handle processing of HDR video. Not sure we'll see that on the regular s7 & S7 Edge.
As for Secure Cloud/folders and such, that is something I could see with an update to the Knox suite.

How important the image processor would be for next 2 years? (assuming next buy will be when my GSM contract expires)
As i understand content needs to be adapted for this. Samsung's representative said Amazon will offer such content and probably others in the future. It does seem HDR is proprietary... will video content makers adopt it? Does it improve the HD content scene?

Hey guys what do you mean by working decently?
I need to be able to root and Note 7 will not be root able for now.
I think S7 could be a choice I can give up my S-pen for root.
I am upgrading from the S7E, because I can.
We can too but is it worth it that is the question. With Sprint update I onky pay 300 dollars but I dont think is worth it without root. From my perspective going from a root note 3 to a non root note 7 is a downgrade.
It is not an upgrade if battery life is worse.

I'm on T-Mobile Jump On Demand and I demanded it a few days ago. I also have loved having a spare battery but starting with the LG V10, and now the S7 Edge, my use no longer demands an always available spare battery. I've had the S7E since March and I've never had a completely drained phone. It was the expanded storage that brought me back to Samsung. Discovering UHQ bluetooth 24\192, to make use of the portable music library was just the cherry on the cake for me to never regret that purchase and now the new Note.
I'm going for it. Only because I got the BOGO deal for my S7E and sold the first one I got. I gave my current edge to my brother for $200 so I'm pretty much covered on the cost for the Note 7 anyways, cruising on an S5 until the phone is released. I'm honestly just interested in it for the IRIS scanner, and the S-Pen and Type-C port. Basically niche features that I enjoy experiencing. So yeah, it's not costing me anything out of pocket but if I were you, I probably would keep the S7E for now until the Note 8 comes out because they are literally the same spec phones as for internals.
Is it worth it to upgrade from s6 edge+? Using it for 7 months now.

Other than the Spen and a slightly bigger screen and some small semi gimmicky items they are real close.
Its the tamer edge screen that sold me on the note and kept me away from the S6/S7v edge devices....i hate the edge screen lol.

Soooooo, I have the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and with news of the recall it has me thinking... I have noticed some serious real life performance issues with simple task on my note 7. Scrolling is laggy, keyboard is too. Apps take a while to open (simple apps like text or even phone calls). I don't know if it will be fixed down the road or not.
I have seen the OnePlus 3 and it has me thinking that I should turn in the note 7 and make the switch. My biggest reservation is that there is no expandable storage.
I would like to get some XDA input on the note 7 vs the One Plus 3. Just not sure what route I should take!

You should have added ZTE Axon 7.
for 450 EUR (vs 850 EUR for Note 7), Axon 7 is a real competitor.
don't forget that, although all 3 devices have AMOLED screens,
only Note 7 and Axon 7 are QHD;
Oneplus 3 has low FHD resolution.

Remind me, I forget, what other mobile has the S-pen? one gets what one pays for and those less expensive mobiles will serve their customers very well. What you totally fail to realise is the Note 7 is NOT a bog standard flagship mobile. Its aimed at high end users who will make use of the S-pen, 64GB internal memory and a possible 256GB expandable memory to name just a couple of the Note7's basic characteristics.
Ryland
LOL there's no comparison, one is a mid range bog standard phone and one is top quality premium computing device.

I think many chose the note 7 as a complete pack, some for the s pen, some one posted that it would be like comparing cars, there are cheap well equiped fast cars, that do tje job very very well, but then the premium ones that cost much more and have similar characteristics, but much better looks and feel, and yes, some litle things not found in cheaper ones, so, at the end, it is a matter of taste, if you can afford what you really like an desire

I m very dissapointed, with the Note 7!!! A big big flop.. and i dont care either for the exploding battery, nor the scratches! I cant believe that after 5-6 years owning a Note, they did not yet managed to eliminate the lag and shutter on the newest.. every year the same Samsung [email protected]
Im going down the OnePlus 3 lane, after trying both of them.. i shared my experience here..

I was thinking about getting the OP3 as opposed to the Note 7. But I realized that the OP3 wasn't going to offer me anything new. In fact, it would have offered me less (other than savings in money) considering I was coming off my S7 Edge.
I knew that the OP3 was going to be a temporary workhorse. Rooted, **** ton of roms, then I'd get tired of it after like month 3 then I would end up getting the newest Google device, while regretting not buying the Note 7 yet. Note 7 just has everything that can last me a legitimate year. Expandable storage, fast charging, multi window which i actually utilize every day, s-pen which i actually use many times throughout the day.
Sure, the price is up there. But this note 7 is a long term phone.
I have owned both phones. While I had the op3 since release and the note 7 for less than a month, I have to say the note 7 is auch better phone. I don't really need root, and didn't flash custom ROM on the op3. I used both android pay on the op3 and samsung pay on the note 7 daily and samsung pay is much more convenient. The op3 display isn't bad but the note 7 is noticeable better. I find battery life to be a bit better on the note 7. Both phone got me through a full day with moderate to heavy use but the not tends to have more battery at the end of the day. Dash charge was very convenient on the op3 and it did seem to charge much faster than note 7 (I don't use wireless charging). OxygenOS was a tad better than TouchWiz in terms of less manufacturer bloat, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I don't know if I will keep the note 7 after the new Pixel devices are announced but if I do I can see myself keeping the note 7 for 2 years.

Are you using the SD820 version? Because they Exynos flys with no lag or stutter.

I'm thinking about switching to the Exynos version. My carrier is letting me return the SD version because of the recall and I'm thinking might buy an unlocked Exynos version since this one lags.

I have very little or zero lag or stutter on my Exynos. It's the smoothest Touchwiz phone I've ever used.
I have the exynos model, I have no complaints, very smooth, no lags, I had note 4, and it had many shortcomings, I am real happy with my exynos note7

Yep sadly the Snapdragon.. every year the same [email protected] On my Note 4, i couldnt also believe the difference between the Exynos and the SD, but when i swapped for the Exynos, i was amazed!
Sadly getting an Exynos here in Greece, is kinda difficult @ the moment. Its sad to see Samsung repeating every year the same mistake. Bad memory management, bloated etc..
I also have the Snapdragon. Would It be possible to get it switched when I return it? I thought Exynos was only certain areas?? Never heard of it being in USA..

I originally bought the SD820 version from AT&T in the US. It was slow, lagged so badly, had terrible battery life and I ended up returning it. I replaced it with the G930FD Exynos version and it is a night and day difference!! The Exynos version is so much faster, smoother, the battery life is probably double and I love it. Food for thought.

Wow! That's good to know. So they had an option at AT&T for the Exynos version?? Or you purchased online elsewhere?
