S-Pen securely attached? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I'm getting the Note 4 in a couple weeks. A friend of mine has the Note 3 and lost his S-Pen. According to him it fell out very easily. Just wondering if this is true, or is my friend just making excuses? Is the S-Pen securely locked into the phone when not in use? Thanks guys, can't wait to get my hands on this beast!

After owning all 4 note phones, a note 8.0 and 10.1, i have never had the pen fall out or even partially come out.

Never lost mine... On the note 3. Only had it for a few days but I don't think that will be a problem.

It's in there tight. You have to grab the end of it and pull it, to get it to come out. No way that it's falling out on its own.

Anyone else considering picking up the Note II in lieu of their GS3?

I just got to play with the note 2 this morning.. OMG this is amazing. I never thought a stylus on a phone was a good thing. Especially after seeing my Dad's crappy palm from yesteryear. However, the S pen works so seemlessly with the phone and I look a lot less silly holding the phone up to talk than I imagined I would (lets face it, i look silly either way).
So what do you guys think? I'm hedging. I can probably sell my Gs3 for $300 and if I pick up the note off contract for $650, a $350 purchase doesn't sound too bad at all .

Ha! You may not think you look silly with that giant thing up against your ear, but most other people sure think you do lol. But who cares what other people think, go for it if you like it! It's a great device, just not one I'd personally want to be making calls on.
I had the original note before I got my gs3 and it was great. However that feeling does where off depending on how you use it and active you are. I mainly work outdoors and use my phone at the gym and it became a hassle trying to take care of that device especially after slapping a case on it. The one time I didn't have a case it fell out of my pocket and chipped the corner of it. So like I said it depends on your usage

I used the original galaxy tab 7" as a phone for about a year, so yes I am interested. Especially if its specs turn out to be what is speculated.
I had the Note as well. Really enjoyed using it, didn't like carrying it around, ended up to be too big for a phone, sold and got the GS3, very happy. If you currently put your phone in your pocket, think hard about the Note 2.

N4 got backed ordered so got a Note

So I ordered a Nexus 4 on launch day to find out the next day it was placed on back order for 3 weeks. I saw the samsung sale and ordered a Note 2 with 200 rebate and 20 instalment plan. Thinking about completly cancelling my pre order status on N4 since Note should arrive in three days. What do you guys think? Also this is my fith phone this year I think I have an addiction problem. Went from a S2, Att Note unclocked with unstable blaze modem, galaxy nexus and finaly to my current S3.

The only problem with the Note 2 is you will be stuck with it for a year. I probably buy 3 phones a year, because there is always something better coming out soon. But not when you own this phone. This will probably be the best phone till the Note 3 comes out.

I def concur with what you are saying.. I've got a s3 and a s2.. i haven't even touched those phones since I've had this one... the next up and coming"big thing" would have to be pretty Damn spectacular for me to deviate from what i have now.. i flashed cm10 final on my s3 it's pretty Damn good.. but I'm still giving this phone all the love... being in hospice care all I've gotta do is take out the s pen and boom instant note that i can send via email to my boss... are the pharmacy... i love this phone!!!

I have that addiction too, I make unboxing videos of all the phones I get. Just to keep em on youtube for dates and the duration I have had them for.
Oh and beyween Note 2 and N4, I would keep the N2, Its just a better device over all.

Yeah I was contemplating real hard about selling the Note 2 and getting me a nexus but after lurking on the nexus forums and all the complaints and the lack of external storage (not to mention it maxes out on 16GB) coupled with non removable battery, it was a good thing i didn't jumped ship.

thtas what i was thinking ive been switching alllot this year cuz i allways want the latest and great but i think maybe the N2 might my device for a good year atleast which i havent keep a phone for a full year like in 3 years. Ive been checking out the N4 and have read about issues but then again a nexus is a nexus and main reason i wanted it was because it allways has the latest like my old GNexus.
Lol I was having the same thoughts untill I saw that smart dock. But than alot is missing in N4 so Note 2 is the best right now.
But I did order 2 N4s gave one to wife overseas and sold one on ebay for 549

The biggest thing about the Note 2 is it does everything that every other phone does, just at different levels. And it does more.
The Nexus 4 and even the HTC DNA do this or that better, but not everything a Note can do. Simply put, the Note 2 is a complete package.
thanks for the input guys, my intial plan before the n4 was releases or leaked was to get n2 as my main device and have a secondary back up smaller phone like a lumina 820 for when i didnt need a big phone. N4 made me rethink my plans. However like i said i just ordered the n2 and anxisouly awainting for it!

Until a phone comes along that can do even more then this, there's not much reason to leave the N2
noted for future reference on my Note 2
Just bought note 2. Could not dare to buy cheap quality nexus 4...didn't expect nexus 4 will have so many issues ...thank god my order for nexus 4 failed

with Tmobile only having a $200 ETF, I don't think you have to worry too much about the contract. I got a note 2 this weekend for $50. $200 on top of that is still a $250 note 2- not bad at all.

Hospice care - i normally associate that with only one thing?
I have the S 3 (which I may gift down to a family plan member on an Mt4G) an now the Note 2. I got it since overall it may be the best device out there - the Note pen was an extra. I would be a bit happier if its size was between where it is and the S 3 - it is a pocketful - lol.
I agree with the other poster - it also might keep me away from another new phone for an extended period..
yea that was one of the reason i was debating of geting the n2 because of size. I had the original note and it was pretty weired holding it against ur ear i wonder if the n2 is slighty better since its not as wide.
My buddy ordered n4.. imho.. sucks. Kg blew it again. Not as smooth as note2.. and definitely not as many features

Who's upgraded from Note 3?

Hi Guys
I know a couple of members have upgraded from the Note 3 but I'm still undecided.
I've become a little bored of the Note now because I've had it since launch but I'm a big fan of carrying spare batteries and the screen size.
Those of you that's upgraded, are you missing anything from the Note? I'm going away on holiday soon and I won't have a tablet so will the M8 suffice to watch a few quick movies etc?
Thanks!

Should I get one?

I'm currently driving a T-Mobile SGS2. Obviously, I don't do cutting-edge phones I'm seeing the Note II (used) on ebay for ~ $200-$250 which is in my price range. So, should I pull the trigger? What are the minuses for this device?
I had used this phone for over two years and this phone is awesome. For me there were no minuses for this phone but lots of newer phones come with few pluses.
Buying second hand phone is always a risk but who knows you may end up with a perfect phone but that's the risk you ll b taking.
I read somewhere that this phone will get the lollypop update so you should be good. I m currently using a note 4 and it has few additional features which I hardly use but again this is just my preference. The only reason I switched to note 4 is because I got it via my office.
There were quite few people with this phone who had their EMMC damaged just by itself and this is something to take in to consideration when buying a two year old phone.

Thanks! I almost always buy used. You're rolling the dice, but most folks are honest. I wasn't aware of EMMC damage, I appreciate the warning.
Iv been using my note 2 for 2 years now no issue , i formatted my phone like a 100 time on my side i like it
I have been using the Note 2 for some time as my weekday work phone (I usually switch to a Moto G 2014 on the weekends). I have also flashed mine numerous times (usually 1-2 times a week...I can never settle on a ROM). I am pretty happy with Slimkat 4.4.4 the most...the device is outstanding IMO.
I have thought of upgrading to something else and had a Nexus 6 in my hand at the T-mobile store...the sales rep was acting shady about the whole deal though (I wanted the 64GB version and he was dancing around the availability) so I walked away. I think at this point I would upgrade to a Note 3 (I do not need the heartrate/fingerprint scanner that the Note 4 has) which aside from using slightly more premium materials, its almost the same device.
...right now, they have the refurb Note 2 on T-Mobile's website for $240.00 or $10.00/month.

$240 sounds pretty good for a refurb...
I love my 2yr old Note2 also. Its still a pretty powerful phone. When I first got it I was made fun of for having such a big phone... guess I was trend setting.
But my opinion is probably step up to a Note 3 or something not so outdated.
Also download the OfferUp app ( I have No affliation with this app) its like a yard sale app. I see Note 4s in my area for $400 and Note 2s anywhere from $150-$200 ... always negotiate.

Bit of a rant...

So, drop my Note 4 and broke the screen. No problem. I upgraded to the Note 7 (preordered). Loved it. Then the first recall. Exchange the phone and mere days later comes the 2nd recall. Love the note so I send in my Note 4 to Samsung to get it repaired since there is no new Note to upgrade to. Did I mention that I love the Note? After 4 days I get notified (by checking the status of the ticket) that all out-of-warranty repairs have been suspended by Samsung and they are sending my note 4 back to me unrepaired. They could have told me that before I spent the time to send it in. Now I'm waiting on them to get it back to me so I can find some third party who can fix the screen for me.
I've been faithful to Samsung for many years (TV, tablet, refrigerator, and many phones) but this recent string of events has me wondering where I'll go next. Sadly, there are no other "notes" out there other than Samsung.
Get your act together Samsung!!! You are losing a lot of customers right now.
Thanks for letting me rant...
I love the Note also. Been waiting a long time for one to meet my feature list demand, this one was it, still miss the IR blaster, but I'm holding strong, keeping my N7 until I see something better drop.

I have a Note 4 with a tan banding creeping in on the display. Sure, I can use it, but after using an N7 for almost 2 months.... the Note 4 feels like a commodore 64. I don't want to go to an S7 edge just to get by, but it is the closest available phone to the N7 made. Trying to decide if I should be patient and live with my aging N4 or just get an S7 edge until Samsung comes out with a Note 8 (or whatever they might call it).
Get a new note 5 or note 4? But which is better?

That was the real point of my "rant". I have a note 4 with a broken screen. I sent it in to Samsung to get it fixed so I could revert back to using it. They received it and then sent it back to me UNREPAIRED, saying that all out-of warranty repairs have been suspended by Samsung as of Sept 30 I believe. I had given them my CC number for the charges and everything. They could have told me this before I sent it in since they knew at that time it was out-of-warranty. Luckily, I found a local store here that does repairs. I'll get it fixed there and use my note 4 until I decide what phone I want next. Nothing on the market interests me right now.
Feel your pain.. Had a note 4, after got note 7. Have note 4 to a friend(he gets my old notes) so I hate to ask for it back. Now I'm stuck down down grading top my note 3.. Such a big difference in technology...feels real backwards.. Did I say last time I used it we were on safe strap, 4.4.2

I sent my s6 active back in for a screen replacement. It broke in a situation it should not have but I did not raise a fuss and approved the $237 repair. Well they charged me the $237 and sent it back to me unrepaired with the same note you got. So not only can my phone not be fixed now I have to try and get the charge reversed. I will never purchase any Samsung product ever again.

Note 3 now has an unlocked bootloader with TWRP available and JasmineROM v6.1 (Android v5.0). I was on a Note 3 before upgrading because the Note 4&5 just didn't impress me. I sold my old Perfect condition Note 3 on eBay which I had unlocked using the method which converts it to a Developer Edition. If I have to return the Note 7 I'm going to just have to activate an old Note 3 with a cracked screen that I put together out of spare parts and performed the same Developer Edition MOD. I'm waiting until the last possible date to return because I don't plan to upgrade again until whatever replaces the Note 7 arrives. Such a shame as this was pretty much perfect with root available almost on day one.

Well, at least they didn't actually charge me. Wonder how long this repair halt is going to take place. I took my Note 4 to a local shop and now even they are saying it will be another month before they can get the screen because they are backordered. The saga continues...
