hey guys, recently with my Rogers S3, my battery life has become terrible, and I would like to figure out why.
if anything, I have been using my phone less than usual, with it mainly just sitting in my pocket unused while I am at work, and getting terrible battery life.
the phone is rooted, but other than that it is stock, running 4.1.1
I used to get around 24 hours(7am to 7am) on a charge(unplug in the morning before work, go out at night, not plug it in at all, then the next morning on my way home plug the phone back in with a few % of battery left), then all of the sudden it was down to being dead in 7-8 hours(7am to 2-3pm).
a few days ago, I installed the Snapdragon BatteryGuru, and that has gotten my phone to around 9-10(7am to 4-5pm) hours of run time, but still very terrible compared to what the phone was getting.
any tips for how I can figure out what is causing this faster drain?
thanks in advance

Did your phone ship to you with 4.1.1 or did you recently update to that?
Try installing better battery stats. Looks like some rogue app is running amok.

i updated to 4.1.1 myself, but I did that back when it first released, in december, battery performance has only been bad for a couple weeks now.
and okay, just installed better battery stats now, what exactly am I looking for in it?

You'll have to let it run for a while but it will say what's draining your battery.

Post some screenies of kernel wakelocks and partial wakelocks after letting it run without you using it for a few hours. Come back here and post the screenies and we can help. I can't decipher much on those but those who can want those to go off of.

Process and Alarms as well (if rooted).
heres the better battery stats screenshots.
the alarms one with 225 wakeups is the snapdragon battery app, which has increased my battery life since installing...
that okay, or do you guys need a longer timeframe?

Looks like its searching for signal, Samsung account sync maybe, and Google is syncing something. I'm not good reading those...but what's syncing under your accounts menu ?
So sec.spp.push is Samsung account push notifications... At 225 wake locks yuck. Unsync that, turn off other ones like Facebook or ibaaw groupon on there.

Hi, i bought an used galaxy note 8 n5110 (WiFi version) and it came with kitkat update installed ?
The first thing i thought was oohhh great kitkat! But this is terrible the battery sucks!!! it discharged in a few hours at most and i research a lot on internet and forums and a lot of people are having the same problem with kitkat update.
Install greenify, du battery saver, gservicefix and i disable a lot of samsung apps and features and theres no big changes.
So i decide to root and some of the root features help me a bit but im not satisfied.
I have a galaxy tab 3 7.0 rooted with Stock ROM and when i disable connections it last days!!! I know i cant compare dual core 1.2 and quad core 1.6 and the screen but woow it doesnt last even a full day. Just reading on kindle with brightness to minimum and i can see the percentage dropping...
So im open to any suggestion even install a custom ROM, im really interested in samsung apps and stuff at least the S Note Pen apps and not so much with Remote control apps but i like multi windows.
So please can someone give some recommendation i just need battery life! and S Pen! im med student, i dont have too much time to deal with it,

Thanks for your help btw! What makes it terrible is that i had been getting around 4 hours of screen time easily just a week ago. Isn't it odd that all of a sudden "Android System" and "Android OS" have jumpped up as the largest drain? Keeping in mind that i had 2 hours and 30 mins of screen time, yet (based on my attached images) "Android System" was a LARGER battery drain than my screen. Doesn't that seem odd? What could possibly be running that would cause a larger drain that 2 1/2 hours of my screen?

Not to my knowledge...i used to use "Wakelock Detector" which was a great app that gave insight into things "hung up" however it is not compatible with kit-kat (unless you are root, than it works)

Same thing is going on with my note. And it's not weird. It's impressive, the system uses more power thanks to touchwiz and the screen is that efficient. There's no unusual drain. Things are as they should be

Thats one way of looking at it and a good point! I wonder if we'll benefit from "Project Volta" within Lolipop since we'll have Touchwiz layering overtop...

hmm just get root then like us developer edition people!
Is root possible for Verizon Note 4? Thought bootloader was locked?
A couple of things to check : 1. What was the new apps or new update you have between now and then. 2. Are you using smart remote. 3. Google services seems to be the culprit here. Any new services?
On my Note 4 I wasn't using any new apps or services and have not received any updates...I'm still running 4.4.4.
I don't use smart remote either. I think I've pinned it down to Sync issues with Google Play Movies and TV (not syncing those anymore) and "Unified Daemon" (which I turned off). Thanks for you help! Truly appreciated!

I am not sure but in the past Samsung's WatchOn gave me lots of battery drain
I feel your pain. I'm missing root bad — even just for freezing apps. You can do some minimal tweaking though. You can turn off some of the bloatware that came pre-installed.
Hi everybody...I have this phone and I have a problem. When I charge the phone up to 100% battery and then take it from the charger, battery drops to 99 or less without phone usage...And when I go to sleep and then wake up,the phone lost about 10-15 percent...Can somebody plesase help me?
Check what's keeping your phone awake during idle, "wakelock detector" and "better battery stats". Though you need root for these. You've nor given us any details of what your phone is and what ROM?? Try searching for threads on how to calibrate your phone battery.
Ohh sorry...My phone is S4 mini GT-I9195 LTE....I have stock android 4.4.2 kitkat...I have already calibrated battery and bought new battery...But same problem...
Will be an app causing your phone to wake
I dont know...i searched on the web and someone said that stock kernel have some problems

Not always the case... Depends when and where your phone was made. Could be a faulty kernel or motherboard but it also could be an app or a setting on your phone or an unclean install. Have you always suffered this issue?
I got phone about 3 weeks ago...and the battery was very bad so i bought new one.I also tried CM 12.1 but the phone is heating in unnormal way but the battery there is better...
You have problems with motherboard. Go to service center to replace it on waranty.
Powered by CM12.1
But my phone isnt on waranty...i got it used haha....ahh nvm,i will live with that problem.thanks for help!
Bad luck then. Normal consumption for our device is 0.2 - 0.3 % per hour in stand by.
Powered by CM12.1
How long does yours battery last with some normal usage?
Almost 3 days with moderate usage.
Powered by CM12.1
Woww thats a very big difference haha.

Your best bet seeing as unless you pay for a new motherboard is to try one of the battery drain fix kernels on here. Though I think you may be limited to certain compatible ROMs.
Why are you not staying on cm 12.1? For me it's amazing, i observed at least 100% more battery efficiency than stock (4.2.2). I also observed the same problem with high temp too. But i think we can't have it all. When i play games and the outside temperature is about 35 celsius, i do not expect anything less, because this mobile is not designed for this android version. I think that's reasonable and i finally can use my mobile with a joyful way without having my mind always on the battery stats!

Thanks guys! And i will try CM 12.1 for longer time to see if anything will be better!

Broken? Arasthel's LOS 15.1 is running very smoothly for me with decent battery life, not much worse than MIUI for me.

Half of the calls had no audio for me wit LOS 15.1. I definitely did not do anything wrong, I did your flashing sequence with total wipe. It was also draining battery and getting hot. I have no clue how it can work for some people and not for the others.

Maybe you should properly calibrate battery once new rom is installed. That helped me before.

I don't have a battery screenshot right now. But I definitely don't notice much drain when the phone is idle. I get 3-4h SoT per day with 20-30 percent left. I use bluetooth in the car a lot and always have it on, almost always on wifi. Don't notice any drainage when on LTE though.

I found out where the cause is.It's the location setting.Default location setting is high accuracy, which costs a lot of battery life.I turned it off and it's all fine now.9 hours idle,4 hours SOT,40% battery left.Really satisfied with that.

I really dont know the reason. But one thing is that because I came from MIUI, after flashing the RR, i do the "format user data" just to make sure everything is clean for a different kind of Rom. It would be a bit hassle to copy things back to the phone, but I just have to do that format thing once.
Also I use greenify with aggressive doze. That's it

I have no audio on calls - again. This is really starting to piss me off. If no one else has this, then it must be a problem with my phone. I have never tested it with miui to be honest, I flashed custom roms right away. I guess now I need to go back to stock to see if the issue persists.
