NFC tag reliability? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried nfc tags back on my S3 and was less than impressed, but it was rooted and not sure it was working correctly. Anyone here use NFC tags and had good luck?
Thanks,
Glenn

How to Check if NFC works?

Hey guys, I bought these batteries (a set of 3) and an external charger to charge them from eBay for about 12 bucks from somewhere in Asia. I assumed they were generic ones, but as I got them today they were branded as Samsung and says it's NFC capable. It looks exactly like the stock battery that came with the GNex. Anyways, I'm probably 95% certain that it's just a generic battery that the company slapped a Samsung sticker on it to make it look more legit. Either way I was wondering how to check if NFC does work, I don't have another GNex to test it on. Is there an app that you guys know of that checks if NFC works?
Any response would be appreciated, thanks!
I don't know of an app that checks if NFC works. Afaik you will have to find another phone with NFC or go to a PayPass location.

Damn! Alright. Was hoping there was an app. Thanks man.
Try scanning your passport that have a bio-metric chip, if there is a sound, then NFC is working.
This is if your passport's bio-metric chip can be picked up by NFC scanners.
I have one of these cards. When I hold it against my GNex, the phone makes a sound. I'd imagine this is the NFC at work. Have you got a similar card that you could try?
if you have a card or a tag that uses NFC download NXP NFC scanner from the play store....it scans any NFC tags
Thanks for all of your responses guys! I'll see what I can do. I'll probably just have to wait till I see my gf later this week and use her Nexus. Was just eager to see if the batteries were legit.
If you have a tablet or another phone with NFC, turn both on and tap them together (the backs). you should hear a sound.
I think this is how you can tell. thanks.

NFC Sticker Tags

i first saw those NFC tags when the Xperia S came out, thought it was kind of a cool concept, but then forget all about it, till yesterday when i came across this vid .. anyways, so i went on and bought these , hope it won't take them long to arrive
anyways, does anyone of u guys have any experience with these NFC tags? what do u think about them?
Not with cm9 , but in general yes.
What do you want to know?
If you are looking for specific tags to get I'd go NTAG based tags. For the galaxy nexus don't get small Ultralight c tags as they have too poor rf performance to work well with the galaxy nexus.
Otherwise it's a fairly straightforward product. Put the phone in range and it reads.

They're probably regular RFID tags, working with whatever frequencies NFC use. NFC is a form of RFID.
I'd like to see features to write more info to tags like contact profile.
i bought these cheap ones basically just to try them out, i'm not really informed about the different types
anyways, i just wanted to hear from the guys who use NFC tags how's their experience so far, what profiles do they use and that kind of stuff

[Q] Use cases for NFC in Scandinavia.

I live in Norway and have a Galaxy Nexus with NFC. I really the idea and prospect of this technology, though I cant seem to find any current use case for it here. Google Wallet isnt here, and no other NFC based payment systems either, so I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for what can be done with NFC without payment, that would work in Norway. Cool NFC based apps are welcome.

Try NFC ReTag for device automation ... Use NFC tags to change your settings, launch apps, make calls, enable Hotspot, launch websites and many more .... You can use writeable tags or even read only tags (like nfc enabled public transport tickets or your nfc company badge)...the possibilities are endless
Well, if you live in Oslo like i do. Maybe you can pay for the bus ticket via NFC, as the card uses NFC to pay.
My 2012 Ruter card is a MIFARE DESFIRE EV1...
Maybe we can manage to clone it and you our phones as a ticket!

[Q] how to make (build) NFC tags

I know you can purchase NFC tags for a fairly cheap price (i just purchased some from tagsfordroid.com) but i'm curious if anyone knows of a way on how to actually build your own NFC tags? Are there any tutorials online on what to purchase and build some?
Thank you

Which NFC Tags?

Hey there,
I bought some 1K NFC Tags only to find out that they don't work with the Nexus 7 2013 (Mifare Classic Chip).
Can anyone tell me which ones do actually work? Apparently the NTAG203 do, but I only found 168byte versions.
Are there any larger ones? Could anyone provide a list of tags that work?
Thanks a lot,
Christoph

Ive got a sizable collection of NFC tags including the Samsung TecTiles1, and so far theyve all worked with my Nexus.
Ive got a MIFARE Ultralight here right now and that read fine using "NFC TAgInfo by NXP" but its only a 64byte.
