Yesterday I contacted a well known and respected developer by the name of Nitorglycere33 asking if he'd be interested in developing his ROMs for the Note 4. Anyone who has flashed ROMs, regardless of phone, recognizes this guy's work as outstanding. He develops ROMs for Dev Editions and Retail editions. His response is as follows: "I am just now having free time to develop again. I would love to build Eclipse for the Note 4."
So guys and gals, is the Note 4 community willing to pony up some money to get this guy a Note 4 Dev Edition so he can "develop" for us? I'm willing to pony up $50.00. Respond to this tread and lets see where you stand on the subject.

The work he does is for the Dev Edition and the Retail Edition. He can't develop and test on a retail phone. He needs a Dev Edition to test his development for both phones.

Quite honestly, we don't even have root, much less a way to unlock our bootloader or flash anything. Working on the DEV edition (which will be vanilla android no?) doesn't help us at all.

I understand your questions and the concern that if the developer has a Dev Edition phone he will only work on Dev Edition stuff.
But more to your point, this developer can help us on a number of different fronts:
1) He is well connected to the "guru(s)" of root and all things Android hacking. That can benefit all users (retail and dev edition). This could help us all get root and custom recovery and draw other expertise and development to the Note 4. With that comes SafeStrap for the retail owners.
2)He has always developed for both versions of a phone (Dev Edition and Retail version using SafeStrap). So, he doesn't just focus on Dev Edition phones. In fact, if you go look in the Note 3 Android Development section he currently supports the Eclipse ROM for the retail version.
Hope this answers your questions.
Also the likelyhood of getting roms on the retail are slim to none. Plus most devs don't work on rooting or unlocking, but rather themeing and roming. As far as I know. But if we can get roms for the dev edition, once some kind of unlock is obtained for the retail, they can be made to work with it pretty easily. So devs that jump on board for the dev edition will help all of us out.

Loved Nitro's work. He helped make the droid charge something even when development was a dud. The charge had some decent developers working on the device too. nitroglycerine33, dwitherell, imnuts, kvswim, kejar31, just to name a few i can remember. I just hope we get a group of devs, even if their efforts don't turn up anything. I'm grateful for anytime they spend.

I've run Nitro's Eclipse ROM as my daily driver on my Moto HD, and S4. No better ROM out there in my opinion.

This ROM looks absolutely fantastic. Any developers have insight as to how we can get this working on our Verizon HTC One's?

I'm no expert but we'll likely see more ports once 4.3 comes out for us.

He has a ROM for the One but its for the GSM version. I asked him if he's going to port to Verizon and he said NO. Sad...=(
Well like cm I'm sure you can port it over. Just ask some devs on this forum to get you started. @Flyhalf205 or somebody like him can help I'm sure

My rom uses the exact same base. Not saying it's exactly the same however.
But what exactly is it about the rom that interests you?
Is there something it claims to offer that the roms we already have don't?
Just trying to understand all this desire to port other roms that have the same base as existing roms already ported and available.
What features makes it different or more desirable?
Maybe some insight may help others to understand and therefor justify why any Dev would port something from another Dev, when he has done the work already for his own port/rom.
Trying to understand what the draw is, that's all.
Is it the more well known "name" on it?
Go ask the creator of the ROM for permission to port and I will see about porting it over if I get the time.

If you look at OP Post #1 here is the sharing policy, I've already messaged mike already to inform him... If you could pull this off FlyHalf that would be AWESOME. I have friends using this ROM and they totally swear by it (full GPU UI rendering, all the underhood tweaks make this rom quick, CPU governor performance).
This forum is about sharing. If you want to use any part of my work, please feel free to do it but remember about some simple rules:
Inform me about using my work by sending me a message. You don’t need my permission, just inform me.
Include link to my thread from where you took particular files.
Give proper credits for what you used.
When it comes to using my ROM as a base you are free to do it only if I don't have "Stock ROMs" thread available for particular device. If such thread exists, you are
obligated to take ROMs from there instead. These threads with "Stock ROMs" are usually updated within 24 hours from the moment when I release my custom ROM.
Sharing is one thing, but please respect some areas of my work like:
ROM name - "Android Revolution HD", "Android Revolution", "Revo HD", "AR HD" etc.
Graphics used in my threads, especially head-banners designed exclusivity for me.
Other parts of my work that are not supposed to be used by others without proper permission.
Reguardless if he lets me. I will still port it to myself. May even work with him to get Verizon support in his main thread. Would be best solution since he does have sprint support. I am making no promises I can get this done! But I will try

I actually did this, just to see what all the hoopla was about.
It's essentially a stock rom with Sense 5 toolbox, not much point in it really. (my 2 cents)
What feature is it you are looking for that's not currently available to us on Vzw? Just curious.
Is it the GPU rendering? Because that's the only thing that really stands out... to me anyway.

Okay, good to know we'r not missing out on too much. Unfortunately, its not like we can test out that ROM for ourselves since its on the GSM version so its hard to really compare it to the roms that are offered for Verizon.
I understand at least the T-mobile variety has an unlocked bootloader, and we have root for all, so why aren't we seeing a bit more action in the development section(s)?
I am not a developer just an avid flasher, so I am not keen on what makes one platform more attractive to developers but it seems to be a very popular phone. If this is a dumb question, flame away...

We could do that, I know jcase is having a bounty for the international version of the G3 (see thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/bounty-lg-g3-d855bootloader-unlocking-t2807900)
maybe we should get him a T-Mobile G3 and have him make a ROM.
It would be cool if the tmobile g3 begins rom development now until all other variants get their bootloader unlocked. That way we wont loose much time.
Like many users here, I am disappointed by the pace of development. I understand that the T-mobile version is the only one that has a unlocked bootloader and that limits the interest on development as many potential devs have other variants. Many users here (myself included) are not knowledgeable enough to develop anything ourselves. The less enlightened (to put it nicely) non-developers complain like crazy while others sit quietly for a paragon developer to come along. There are a few developers who are doing great work bringing CM11 and DeviantXone to our phones. Either way most of us non-developers really don't have any opportunity to make a difference... until now.
There is a petition that is taking off at change.org. It has already received a response from LG and with more signatures, could lead to a change. The petition is asking for LG to unlock the bootloader of the phone. This should increase the number of developers by a substantial amount. Developing for the LG G3 is much better than developing for just the D851.
Please join Sebastian Jena's campaign: Click here to sign the petition!

I wouldn't call what going on right now a lack of development. We have both stock based and cyanogenmod based Roms. When the cyanogenmod Roms that are out now become stable we will see a lot of ports for our phone. Its not that big of a deal but the petition is a great idea for the rest of the world. Just so you are aware most g3 versions can have stock based Roms but there seems to only be one actively developed ROM at a time over in the generic g3 section because the rest of the world has the same problem us T-Mobile folks do (lack of people willing to step up and learn how to do this stuff). I give it another month at most until we see stable cyanogenmod.
Goes back to 1% who modify their phones vs. Corporate clients who insist on security.... Who do you think cell providers and manufacturers are going to listen too....?

This is a valid point but I am not sure that many corporate clients support android devices nevermind the LG G3. Everywhere I have worked has been iphone and blackberry but the sample size is only 3 so I could be way off about this. Also they usually listen to the loudest of us. Even if we are outnumbered 10 to 1, we still stand a chance as long as we make more noise in support of this than they do in support of the status-quo. Even if you are right though, it doesn't take long to sign up and it is probably the biggest difference I and other non-developers can make so why not try at least?
I'd be fine with signing it, but then I'll get loads of emails from them, which I don't want.

For the record.... How many bootloaders been unlocked by a cell provider after initial release... And modding community is probably outnumbered by 100 to 1 or more likely more..and loud noise doesn't over come revenue stream... Be glad some providers release a dev phone for purchase.

You still may want to edit.your post. You spend far too long complaining about the lack of developing and how no one is deloping and.far less on why the phone should be unlike. Wasn't until the ending that I was like...oh he's not making a petition because no one is developing but to unlock the boot loader....
I also noticed the lack of development behind the G3.
Its a great phone, but if you want a phone with development youll have to get a HTC or Samsung or Nexus.
Even the Samsung devices with locked bootloaders get more development lol.
Sold mine on Craigslist and I hve a Note 4 on preorder awaiting shipment.
There use to be a time where if you were dissapointed in the amount of development being done on a phone you learned how dev. Thats what was great about android. It is an open source system made for you to make it youelr own. Yes times have changed and and not everything is completely open (nothing was ever completely open), but i know there are still ways to learn. Yes you might think your too busy to learn but if you really want more development for this device you will find the time to learn and truly make your device yours.

There is development going on for the g3. Just the tmobile variant. Once the boot loader gets unlocked, it'll probably be easy to port them to the other variants. And it's not LG's fault that only tmobile's boot loader is unlocked. It's the cell provider's that wanted that. If everyone just gives up and moves to different phones, the devs will see no need to try and unlock the other bootloaders.
I signed it , hopefully they unlock it

Hi XDA,
I had debated buying a m8 vs e8 and ended up buying the e8 due to dual SIM necessity for myself .
However, after buying this device, my biggest gripe is that there is absolutely near zero developer love for the e8. [emoji31]
The e8 is basically a m8 stripped of the IR blaster and camera changed. THAT'S IT.
Can the devs at m8 forums please show some mercy to us folks and release a tweaked version of their roms for the e8?<---once again this is a request or plea for some help, and thanks if you took the time to read.
Thanks and please let another xda lover or developer know if this can be done.

It will come eventually. Devs need to actually own/have access to a device to work on it. Most devs have the M8, not the E8.
Patience is needed. There will be something eventually.
Also, google is your friend.

Because most devs have the M8 and aren't interested in getting the e8 cause it's just not really any upgrade.

Begging likely won't help either. If a dev is not internally motivated to make a ROM (usually since they own the device) they usually won't just do so because you beg or request it. You can try to start a bounty to create a monetary motive. But really, your best bet is to make one yourself, as previously suggested.

Nice. Good luck. Its something I've always wanted to try my hand at, but my personal life (2 kids, including one new baby) just doesn't presently support it. There are a number of good guides on XDA, easily found by searching. This one caught my eye in particular, as it refers to MIUI, and is also very current and updated:

The only thing I called it my custom rom is to root it and delete some bloatware. LOL
Any E8 rom please? :C
Would Cyanogen Mod be interested in developing for this phone now that we have unlocked bootloader? Given the choice, I'd love Paranoid Android, but I went hold my breath.
CM is already in development . https://github.com/CM-zenfone2
BrokenROM https://github.com/BrokenROM/device_asus_moorefield
Seems that are only for ZE551ML I hope that will be compatible with ZE550ML
If someone can get pure AOSP or CM working, the ROMs will flow out like water... once a base is established building many ROMs is easy. If we get CM, then look for ROMs like Beanstalk, BlissPop, Carbon, , etc. to follow closely behind. Patience, it will happen...

Awesome! Is there/will there be collaboration with the developers regarding the kernel and device tree from ASUS as well? That would be key to have a fully-working custom ROM in the nearer future (versus the developers having to learn from scratch and sort of fend for themselves, kludging their way along and delaying the end goal).
So exciting!
We post our kernel source, but that's all we can offer, unfortunately. Our software development is done at our Taiwan HQ. But if any devs need anything, just send me a PM and I'll ask our software team.

We post our kernel source, but that's all we can offer, unfortunately. Our software development is done at our Taiwan HQ. But if any devs need anything, just send me a PM and I'll ask our software team.

Just got one single request... Open an official outlet or distributer in Pakistan... I am buying your items off international vendors without warranties... Would love to see if I can get some support locally...

This makes not much sense to me honestly. Why locking a bootloader in the first place and then stating to push development hard by providing test phones to specified devs?
But still I want to thank you for your commitment in making this phone a huge success - we'll kick Galaxy and Xperia and the likes out once done
Good thing to see Asus sharing to make custom ROMs efficient.
Already on Harfainx's ROM, can't wait to see things going even further.

Unfortunately in only responsible for North America and have no say for any other regions.

This is my push from Technical Marketing for North America due to needs and wants for the US market. I place great emphasis on the community that has made many of the previous phones I've owned so great. I want that for the ZF2.
I'll probably start development for this phone once i get it. Never worked with an x86 android device before but it sounds like a fun challenge

Hi,
I've got some sort of situation here concerning building the kernel for ZF2 on my own. I downloaded the kernel source from ASUS website and followed the instructions one by one (download the android source code, use the appropriate toolchain, issue the kernel build command using fhd_defconfig, etc.
The phone boots and works good, BUT:
The phone never gets to deep sleep mode because of hsic_s3_wlock (kernel wakelock from USB HSIC). Could you please ask someone from the technical department to check what is causing this or if any config entry is missing? I am really starting to doubt that this is something I can influence at all
