Cannot move files to sd card with stock file manager anymore. - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I download quite a few movies onto the device storage and used to use the stock file manager to move the files onto my sd card no problem. I am aware of the kit kat problem as all my other android devices are kit kat too. But a couple of weeks ago suddenly after I move the films they are not able to be played. Even when I move them back to the original folder they won't work. My z3 and note 3 still allow me to move torrents and you tube downloads without a hitch.
This is really doing my head in. I know I can solve this by rooting and I might have to but i am just really confused as to why it suddenly doesn't work.
Anybody shed any light of this for me?
Thanks

[Q] Duplicate folders when phone plugged into computer

hey guys,
My issue is that when I plug my s3 into the computer. When I access the SD card from the file explorer on the computer, it comes up with duplicate folders. Just wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue. However if i browse the files through astro on my phone it looks just fine. I'm running AOKP Build 4.
So I saw this & hoped there was some extra infoon tthis topic cause I had the exact same issue. It was agrivating because I didn't know which folder to save to. Some of the folders had different data in them
My solution? I put the sd card in a multi reader & poof - no duplicate files.
BAD NEWS
Now my phone doesn't know where to find the sd card. Oh, it reads & writes just fine. I can see it in SUFBS & Astro file manager, copy files to/from with ease. But go to the gallery & I only see the phone memory. Ring tones are only found in phone memory. Downloading from any Web browser & it only goes to internal storage & I can't point to ext sd, but sms backup & restore saves to it just fine. My friend thinks the drive letter got changed but I have no idea how to find or change that in the phone. I's sad.

Ive never seen this myself. But i only connect to my computer via usb when using Odin. For file transfers i use SwiFTP wireless transfer.
Search for sgs3 easy ums here on xda. Itll let you mount external sd as UMS rather than MTP which is probably whats causing it (maybe because you are non stock?).
Also you may have to reformat the card at this point. Not really sure about that though.
Sorry i dont have more for you, but in the future try those two apps i mentioned. Find Swiftp bt searching the themes and apps section.

[Serious Bugs] Android 4.4.2 Galaxy Note 2

Hello, folks
Recently I upgraded to Android Kitkat 4.4.2 (Indian Version) on my Samsung Galaxy Note II, I have come across a serious BUG after upgrading to Android 4.4.2.
BUG Details: Memory card cannot be read internally
For Instance while connected to Winscp via SSHDroid new folder cannot be created in Memory Card but at the same time new folder can be created in Phone Memory
I guess writing has been restricted
It's not over..... While downloading videos via YouTube Downloader 4.2 (Dentex) when custom folder chosen to memory card downloading gets failed
Again I guess writing has been restricted
I tried 3-4 different memory cards guessing problem might be in memory card (formatted as well)
Flashed my Note II via Hard Reset
Tried all ways and I have come to conclusion the BUG is in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat (Indian Version)
Kindly share if you have encountered same BUG as well (Specially Indian Consumers)
Regards,
Note II

It's not a bug, it is included in the Kitkat update for security purposes.
There is a fix for that but you have to be rooted.

iQuran cannot read my memory card in which has supporting files
I cannot save/download videos from YouTube Downloader to my memory card
What rom are you using?
You can simply transfer your files using a comupter...
Then paste it to your memory card..
That's what I did when I'm on Stock Kitkat ROM...
If you want to apply the SD Card fixed root your phone first.

you can copy or move anything with stock file manager My Files..only third party application has no permission to write.
xplore file manager can handle files in sd card too...
Google chose to block write access, for third party apps (those not pre-installed), to external storage; except in their own directories.
There is currently a loophole which some developers have updated their apps to use, but with future iterations of android this will likely be blocked.
This change has been primarily to keep the sdcard clean; un-installing third party apps had left orphaned files the sdcard and resulted in a poor user experience. Personally I'm not sure how viable an explanation this is when you weigh it up against the affect to the user experience of preventing 3rd.P apps from accessing anything outside of their own granted space, or the space granted to a partner app. I think this is either google being evil, trying to lower the value of an sdcard slot to drive OEMs to make devices without one (for various profitable purposes) OR because google goofed on their first time really deciding what access they should have (previously there was no formal access rights definition, it was a free-for-all.)
Hold this space
You can install my apks from play store to back up apk in external card and quick office for editing and saving dox in external card without rooting from play store..enjoy

you are right, writing of sdcard has been restricted in android 4.4.2
Is it possible to revert back to 4.3?

The easiest solution is getting root access and using the sdfix app; reverting is overkill if you just want 3p rw access back.
Happened to me yesterday. I was goin to format my fone, so i took a backup of some apps on helium(Since im not rooted)on my sd card. I formatted my fone. After that wen i went in carbon folder, it was empty. No data.

[Q]

Hi
Just got my TAB S 10.5 wifi. Painstakingly been trying to setup the pc so the tablet can talk to it. And installed ES File explorer so I can simply copy & paste my music to my SD card when ever I want.
But when I came to it, ES explorer will not let me do it, it says it needs to be rooted, which I don't want to do, I did on my S3 but that was purely to installed Viper for android.
2 questions:
Does anyone know if lollipop will sort out this permission problem when it's released.
and if not, is there a way to write to my SD card without rooting?
Many Thanks
At least make a proper effort at posting a subject line in the right sub forum and somebody might make an effort to reply...
Lollipop should fix sd issue i guess. I am running cm12 and have no problems. And theres no way to write to sd without rooting on kitkat or maybe i havent found a way

Kitkat introduced SD Card restrictions that meant apps could only read SD card data without being able to write to them or modify anything. Samsung somehow worked around this with their stock My Files app which allows writing to SD.
Lollipop should fix this by default and open up access to ES again

did not realise the title went missing, my phone is a bit Laggy now and plays up.
Anyway, bit more digging, and I have come across an app called B1 File manager.
anyway, move this to the SD card, and you can write to it's own folder. Then I can assign my media player albums to the sub folder and works a charm!!!!!
And I never tried the stock file manager. I'm still learning what's on here, I've been stuck on jellybean for the past 2 years so there's probably lots on here to figure out.

Folder Mount and LG G4

Hello all.
I recently bought LG G4 (European unlocked version H815) and rooted it mostly because I wanted to use Folder Mount since many games nowaday take so much storage space. I updated my phone before rooting to the most recent firmware (5.1). With my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy S4 Active) Folder Mount worked perfect. With LG G4 Folder Mount seems to mount everything but when starting a game it wants to download the game data again. I checked if I can find the mounted directory (in Folder Mount) from internal memory;it was found but seems to be empty.
With ES File Explorer those mounted directories can be found but are shown with question mark.
I tried SDCard Fix but it told that apps already have write access to my external SD card and no fix is needed (Folder Mount probably fixed it).
I e-mailed Folder Mount developer but still waiting for a reply.
Please suggest any similar program that works with LG G4 or tell me how to fix this problem. Much appreciated!

Install it via xposed app
Like this one
Incase you need a guide in xposed installation here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/themes-apps/guide-installing-xposed-locked-t3181593
Many games put the bulk of their data on the SD anyway. If you have FM try to move it, it will get lost. Just had this issue. Delete the FM redirect and try it.

Using SD card for downloads?

Hi, cant find the answer to this anywhere so hoping someone can help. When downloading mp3's ,photo's etc how can I set phone to give me the option to download to sd card rather than system storage, only "path" available is to the phone? Thanks in advance for any help.
You need to go into the app manager and move that app to the SD card
I've done that today with my PowerAmp app for music; but also for Google Photo's etc...
At least I think that's how I did it!
Hope this helps
Thanks for that but not quite what I'm looking for, have app2sd installed which moves the apps fine, my headache is how to set download path to SD card instead of system storage for things like mp3 downloads etc. Had Sammy's and an oppo 7a previously and they always gave an option of where you downloaded file to. Thanks again for your answer though
Ah; I get what you mean now. Sorry, got the wrong end of the stick!
I haven't figured that out yet; I've just moved to my Swift from a Galaxy Note 5, so still working my way through it!
But it is running 5.1.1 so maybe google your issue and android and see what the net comes up with!
Have you asked on here as well: http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/
Update to cyanogen 13 today has sorted the problem out now
