New OTA + Nexus 5 5.0 = OFFLINE MUSIC - Moto 360

So, to my surprise, after trying to get the OTA for the last few days, some new stuff popped up on my Moto 360. I have the newest 5.0 Developer Preview and the new Play Music. There is a new option in settings of it that says "Download to Android Wear: Store downloaded music on your Android Wear device for offline playback." There is now a Play Music voice command, as well as a Play Music app. Inside the app is all of the music that has been downloaded. It works, as I tested it by downloaded the free Deadmau5 album with some Bluetooth headphones. There's also an option in Settings to add Bluetooth devices on the Moto 360 now.
So far it works GREAT! I was going to give some screenshots, but my Nexus 5 camera has a bug in the new preview that doesn't let it focus, so when I get home I'll hook my 360 up to ADB and take some screens

That works for anyone that has the most recent Play Music update and 4.4W.2

Why is offline music playback so hard?

So I was loving the look of the SW3, especially when Runkeeper released their beta version. However now I read that offline music is more difficult than it really needs to be?
Why haven't Sony got their own music player on there, surely it makes sense that a lot of people are going to want to use the watch for this?
Do you have to use Google Music or is there an alternative? Seems like everytime I decide this is the time to buy one, something else puts me off.
I use Spotify on the phone and then I control it from the watch. I have also uploaded about 100 song into the watch and tried to play it from watch to Sony SBH-20 bluetooth headphones but the sound is sometimes laggy although the distance between watch and receiver is under 1 meter. I have no another BT receiver except car radio which I was not able to connect (message Device is full - ?)
Has anybody similar issue?

I was browsing through the online manual of the SW3 and found the following tidbit:
To download a playlist using the Walkman® application
Make sure the battery level of your SmartWatch 3 is 70% or higher.
From the main application screen on your Android™ phone or tablet, find and tap Walkman.
To open the Walkman® home screen menu, find and tap Walkman.
Tap Playlists, then select the playlist that you want to download to your SmartWatch 3.
Drag the slider beside download to wearable in the appropriate direction to turn on the download playlist function. A card indicating the download progress appears on your SmartWatch 3.

My Walkman application doesn't support this yet, so probably an update of the Walkman application should take care of this.
If you sideload ES File Explorer (using the APK and ADB), you can load music using ADB and play it with the ES File Explorer built in music player, it works surprisingly well.

[APP] Voice Controller for Spotify

Hi everyone,
Two weeks ago when I got my Moto 360, I started using the voice commands and I was amazed by how well the voice recognition does its job. Then, only a few days later I was eating some pizza, getting my hands dirty, and then I noticed that there was an awkwardly silent in the room with a couple of friends, and the idea to play some tunes using my watch came to my mind. I tried saying some commands to see if it works, since I saw that we could assign apps to "Play music" voice action, but none of the actions I tried worked. I felt a little bit frustrated for a moment, but then I realized that it is quite simple to connect Spotify and the Wear Voice Commands. It was when I created this app: Voice Controller for Spotify. (Yes, I suck at naming)

Voice Controller for Spotify allows you to use voice commands to play songs on your phone from your Android Wear device.
Simply assign Voice Controller for Spotify as the "Play music" app on the Android Wear application on your phone, and start playing your tunes.
The application also allows the use of a native player instead of the Spotify App. Native player uses the BETA Spotify SDK.
A PREMIUM SPOTIFY ACCOUNT IS REQUIRED TO USE THIS APP.

I published the app just a few hours ago, and I would love to get some feedback. Unfortunately the users that are able to use it are only the ones that have an Android Wear device and uses Spotify with premium, which kinda reduces a lot the overall amount of users, compared to other android apps. So, if you have a moto 360 and use Spotify with Premium, please check out the app, and if possible, send me some feedback, I would love to keep improving it and helping more users to break the awkward silent haha.
Thanks!
I've just been given a moto 360 for Christmas (love it!) and this is exactly what I've been looking for so thank you! Unfortunately, I cannot find it anywhere...
Any help on how to search by package name by any chance?

I edited the first post and put the link with a few spaces. Glad you liked it
Sorry, I haven't downloaded or used it yet. Thanks for the link, but it's supposedly incompatible with my device? HTC One.

Hmmm, I made it compatible to the HTC One... Which version of Android are you using ?
Non-rooted 4.4.3

That's the problem. I released it initially only for 5.0+ because of the new Wear APIs, but I am currently working on supporting it for KK devices. It should be out today, or the next few days. Sorry about that ):
No worries! We haven't received 5.0 on M7 Three yet. Look forward to start using your app!

hmm... ill have to try this out. Ive been trying out google play since its free for 6 months but I feel like spotify is still way more polished.
@mrgreeny I updated the app and now it should work with any Android 4.4+
@tsy87 Awesome! Please, let me know what you think. Any feedback is most welcome
Love the idea of being able to instantly play any artist by just saying there name. This is great... One issue though.
I have an LG Flex running 4.4.2 and when I have the option turned on to use the native player it crashes. It will pop up on the watch that its sending to the phone then the phone says "voice controller stopped responding" but moving it to use just the Spotify player will open Spotify and start playing that artist.

Thanks for testing it out @felacio! The only problem of using the Spotify App is that sometimes it hangs/freezes when it is closed and you try to open it to listen to a track. But I am not so sure if this issue only happens on my Moto X running 5.0... Due to that, I created the native player that will basically use the Spotify SDK to play songs instead of opening the app. It seems that the native player has a compatibility problem that I am currently working on, so if you're on KK, keep using the Spotify App for now, and if you don't have the issue on its initialization, feel free to use it forever and ever
Thanks for this! Didn't work with the native app for me couldn't get anything to play with the native app open or not. Works fine with the Spotify app!
Problem though, I've asked it to play an artist and it'll play one song. But when I go to skip it, it seems to just pause because there's not another song in the queue I assume?
Edit: just left you a Google play rating, hopefully that'll start to get you up in the search results ?
Edit2: also, I'd quite like the ability to say "play music" and it play all of my music, it is just playing Charlie XCX - Boom Clap atm and that's not in my music.

Thanks! I just pushed an update that should fix issues with the native player, but as I said before, if it is working with Spotify app, you guys should just keep using it
Right now, I am just enqueuing one song and if you ask to play another one, the app basically skips that and starts playing the next one. But adding more songs or distinct new voice commands are on the list!
The planned features that I have on the roadmap right now are:
- Enqueue songs using "Play <artist/track name> next"
- Play a playlist using "Play <name or partial name of your playlist> playlist"
- If the first track finishes and there are no more in the queue, play more songs of the artist/composer of last song. (would love opinions if this is the best way to "handle" when the music stops)
I will definitely add your suggested feature to the list, probably together with the second one, since they are related
Note that some of these features might not be available if you are using the Spotify app. I need to check but I think you can't enqueue songs on Spotify, if you send a new song, it will just skip the one it is playing.
Again, thanks for the positive rating and feedback!
Sounds good! I look forward to it. I think the only perfect command for me would be a shuffle all music command, that's really all I use spotify for...

Hi Yurifariasg, your app is great idea, I like it. I downloaded now, but I have a still problem with app in my phone. App works well on my Moto 360, but on my Samsung S4 mini with Android 4.4.2 it doesnt work. Have you idea where can be a problem, pls?
Thank you, Vanda
Great app idea! Some feedback on my testing. Here's what I'm using
Moto360 updated to 5.0.1
Galaxy Note 4 on 4.4.4 (non-rooted)
Spotify Premium - Logged into the app
I set Voice Controller for Spotify as the music player in the Android Wear app. If I try to open the VCfS app on my phone, I receive an error message that says "Unfortunately Voice Controller for Spotify (BETA) has stopped." When I ask my Moto360 to play a song, it seems to correctly search and I receive the confirmation but on the phone side, I receive a notification: "Could not play song - Your must be logged in to be able to play songs on native player."
If I open Spotify, I confirm I am logged in and can play the track from within Spotify.
Hope the feedback helps!

I should add that if I use the voice command to play a song when Android Wear is connected to Play Music, it finds and plays the song no problem. It's quite slow, but it works.

Hi @vanda, Thanks for checking the app! The problem you are having is another issue with KitKat compatibility, looks like it was something on the way KK handle the views, it is weird that this issue didn't show up on the emulator and neither with other users before.... That's why is important to get this feedback from you, thanks for helping me out! I just pushed a fix for that and should go out on version 1.0.4, please check that out again and let me know if you run in any more problems.

Hi @Ducaticorse, the native player is enabled by default on the app, and it requires you to sign in on the application. Since you could not open it (due to the same problem @vanda had), you were not able to do that, and couldn't neither change the player (to use the Spotify app). This compatibility issue should be fixed on 1.0.4 and you will be able to log in to use native player or change the configuration to use the Spotify App to play your tunes! Please check that out, and let me know if you get any more errors.
Thanks!
New problem since the latest update. Now when I ask it to play a certain band it will say its sending the request and then nothing happens. Before this update it would send, about 2 seconds later it would pop up on the watch saying its now playing "so-and-so's song" and it would play, unless I had "use native player" selected and then it would just crash.
But now, nothing happens at all.

Hi @felacio, which version are you using (1.0.4?) are you logged in the app? Is it still crashing when you select native player and tries to use the app?
I didn't see any crashes on the developer console with the newest version 1.0.4, but maybe there's some hidden exception somewhere...
-----------------------
[EDIT] I just found an issue when the app can't find a track using the Spotify Web API, currently it just doesn't do anything, no confirmation, no dialog saying it couldn't found, nothing.. I guess this is what is happening to you.... Have you tried different queries with more popular artists?
I'll add a notification on the next version to inform the user when his/her query returned no results.

Music PLayer

I have the S8 + & the S3 Froniter. When the source of music is the phone, I noticed that I don't have the access to change, one album to another, nor to shuffle, repeat, or add as a favorite. However, when I change the source of music to my S3, the options are available. Is there a way that I can have these options when the source is selected to my phone? I guess I am use to the apple watch/iphone was able to do this, I thought I was able to with this.
It depends on what you are trying to do on what music app cause google play and Spotify should work on the watch because I have it also and no problem for me at all...you might need to reset the watch again

SW3 / Sony Music App / Samsung S8 - no slider to sync to SW3

I've sideloaded this latest version of the Sony Music App to Samsung S8
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2728110
Then:
https://redirect.viglink.com/?forma...ber 2017}&txt=Music 9.3.11.A.0.3 ( MediaFire )
Which works fine and successfully showed up as synced to my watch. However the issue is that when trying to sync a playlist to the watch there is no slider to sync to SW3 as seen in this video
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&s...0Qxa8BCCUwAA&usg=AOvVaw0VTJzWxrN8ZFOD4xbU2nov
This video is two years old. Is it possible the new latest apk has been made to NOT work fully? I'd rather not have to search for a two year old version to get this to work.
Any advice greatly appreciated
Sorry this is so long winded!

Android Auto, in order to use Rocket Player, have to use Google Play Music first

Half question, half observation, and half speculation. That's three halves, only two of which make 100% but two out of three ain't bad.
On the completely stock but rooted 8.0 and also on the latest 8.0-based Leedroid ROM on a U.S. Unlocked HTC 10 (with latest TWRP and latest compatible SuperSU), playing music through Rocket Player on Android Auto in my 2017 Chevy Impala requires me to first load Google Play Music, play just for a moment, and then I can pause (or leave alone, doesn't matter) and switch back to Rocket Player and hit play, and it'll play just fine (it'll automatically pause Google Play Music if I hadn't already).
It's consistent - every single time (just in case "consistent" wasn't clear enough LOL). I haven't tried any AOSP/CM-based ROM, older or newer. I'm looking to keep all regular phone and text functionality so that rules out beta versions of AOSiP 8.x. Once I stop the car and restart, I have to go through the same workaround again to use Rocket Player.
With both my wife's and my Google Pixels (hers the XL 128 GB and mine, unfortunately so far, the regular Pixel 32 GB), Rocket Player works immediately.
I have done searching and reading, both through Google searching and searching specifically in the XDA Q&A and Guide/Discussion sections. Although I've seen other problems I haven't specifically found this one mentioned.
Weird! If anyone has any ideas other than switching to Google Play Music, please let me know. FYI, I've also tried disabling Google Play Music, which of course only made it so that I can't use the workaround I found, and I do plan on looking into what other music players support both Android Auto and ReplayGain. If anyone has any suggestions for a music player that fit those two requirements besides Rocket Player, I'd appreciate those suggestions as well.
Thanks!
Supports both ReplayGain and Android Auto:
Rocket Player, but with the caveat on stock HTC 10 Oreo and latest Oreo Leedroid that each time I want to use Rocket Player, I have to temporarily start playing with Google Play Music first. This problem doesn't happen on the Google Pixel with Rocket Player.
I also just noticed that the description of both the free Rocket Player and paid Rocket Player unlocker don't even mention the Android Auto feature which it most definitely does support, so perhaps I should look at all music players that do mention ReplayGain but don't mention Android Auto.
GoneMAD, description only mentions ReplayGain but I happened to notice a review in the Play Store that mentions how good it's Android Auto capability works. I don't understand why these media player authors wouldn't tout their player's Android Auto compatibility if they have it. I'll try it and report back.
Update: GoneMAD seems to have no issue on the HTC 10, I can go straight to playing in GoneMAD without playing using Google Play Music first. Since testing for an hour or so, repeatedly, I disabled the Google Play Music and Rocket Player apps, and I'll test GoneMAD again over the next few days and/or a week before I decide to buy the unlocked version from this 14-day trial version.
Those that seem to support ReplayGain but not Android Auto (haven't tried Neutron so don't absolutely know that it doesn't support Android Auto):
PowerAmp (public beta 703 in Play Store)
Neutron
Those that seem to support Android Auto but not ReplayGain (I have not actually tested any but Google Play Music, but the description of the others don't mention ReplayGain):
Google Play Music
Pulsar
MD Player
Doesn't seem to support either ReplayGain or Android Auto (haven't tried any, but nothing in the description about those features):
doubleTwist
BlackPlayer (free or paid)
Equalizer
Shuttle
Shuttle+
Musixmatch
Try Poweramp beta.

Thanks, Mate. I own PowerAmp so that's a great suggestion. I'll update if it helps alleviate the issue.
Update: Unfortunately, PowerAmp Beta doesn't support Android Auto. Google Play Music and Rocket Player are still the only media players that show up as available to Android Auto. Maybe someday, eh?
Update 2: Or maybe the Beta version of PowerAmp that's in the Play Store (build 703) isn't the latest Beta that's available. You see, I was already signed up as a beta user for PowerAmp through the Play Store, but it sounds as if there's a closed beta version available, and that they're shooting for another beta version in April, although I can't tell if it's planned that it will be a more public beta or still closed beta. The beta forum for PowerAmp doesn't mention having Android Auto capability, so I'm not too optimistic it will be included anytime soon.
Update 3: Check the OP for how I've changed it - I'm going to test GoneMAD to see how it works. It appears that it's common for music apps to not mention in their (even sometimes lengthy) descriptions that they're compatible with Android Auto. Some definitely aren't compatible, like PowerAmp and Neutron, but if GoneMAD doesn't work sufficiently well, I'll revisit others that mention ReplayGain but don't mention Android Auto, in case they secretly do support Android Auto.
I'll probably turn this thread into a Discussion/Guide thread (moving to that section) once I solve my issue, assuming I do, so people can know what apps support Android Auto without trial and error.
