Hi,
hope someone can help me, because untill now it was not complete clear for me.
I just got Root access on my htc one X (at least this should be the case)
But in order to test this, i want to try some different ROM.
But to use anything regarding different ROMs i need SUPERUSER and most important SU BINARY
I can install superuser without problems.
my question: WHERE CAN I FIND A CORRECT VERSION OF SU BINARY, AND WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS?
Because now he is still asking for SU binary which he can not find in the system!!!

Actually, you did not get root access yet. You need to install the su command as part of rooting the device.
I suggest you try again. Find good instructions on how to root your device, and follow them.
When you find a method that works, it will install the su command and the Superuser app, and set permissions on the su command.
This is usually done automatically by a program running on a PC, connected to the debug port of the Android device with a USB cable.
Then you can test it with an app such as Root Checker, which you can find in the Play store (free).
If I'm not mistaken custom roms come with superuser already installed, so all you need to do is unlock your bootloader at htcdev, install custom recovery then pick a Rom to flash (not forgetting to flash the boot.img through fastboot before installing the Rom through recovery.)
To update binaries just open the superuser app and it should tell you if the su binary needs updating

I installed a stock recovery to update to 4.4.4 OTA. I then installed TWRP(openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-m8) through fastboot and attempted to install the super SU zip 2.00.
The file seemed to install properly as it gave me no errors, but I did not have root access when booting into the phone. I then tried CWM recovery (recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.8-m8). CWM installed the super SU 2.00 zip without any errors as well, but warned me before reboot that my root access was not found, I selected the option that "fixes" that, but still I am without root.
I like the 4.4.4 features but I don't want to be without root, please help me guys.
Let me know if you guys figure anything out for the stock rom. I just jumped on the latest cyanogenmod nighty till I figure this out.
Do you have s-off?
You should definitely get s-off as it makes everything so much easier.
But in the meantime, I would download the sunshine.apk and run it. It will reboot your phone and ask you to confirm and enter PayPal info. I believe your phone at this point has a soft root. If you now run superSU and allow it to install the binary, you should have root.
after updating my m8 to lollipop, the device says unroot. software status is still unlocked, I went through the rooting process again, flashed twrp recovery. but cant install anything aa it says device is not rooted.

I've never used a toolkit on my HTC devices, so I can't speak to their effectiveness. Perhaps they need an update to work with Lollipop.
I recommend using TWRP recovery (just because it's the one I used and I know it worked for me. Can't speak to CWM or Philz)
Flash the SuperSU update zip found here: http://download.chainfire.eu/695/SuperSU/

hello, i am new here and had to create an account because all of the threads related to my issue have yet to resolve my problems!
i have an htc on m8 version 5.0.1 and i unlocked my bootloader, flashed twrp, and proceeded to root. However, the first attempt gave me an error once i clicked on supersu that said there is no su binary installed and supersu cannot install it. this is a problem. So i researched and downloaded the updated version of supersu v2.46, still no luck! everything ran smooth up until this point and im extremely confused as to why it wont work! please help!!!

Did this ever get resolved? I am having the exact same issue! :crying:
What ROM are you using? it should work fine :/ did you actually flash SuperSu zip? instead of installing just some apk file for the app it self? because the zip comes with the binary.
