Has anybody handled both the Note and the Note II or read literature concerning that topic? I'll be coming from a Galaxy S (the Vibrant variant) and I'm really concerned about how unwieldy the Note II's width can be after handling the first Note. However, the Note II is supposed to be slightly thinner, but I'm not sure how much of a world's difference that can be. I'm good for an upgrade as of a few days ago, so I may just get a Galaxy S III instead of waiting if the Note II won't feel all that different. What have you guys heard?
Someone posted a video review in a thread the other day. It was good because the guy compared the handling of it vs GS3. It had a customizable keyboard for instance, that shifts the kb from one side to the other to assist with one handed operation.
I mean, it's a large device and I can see it being awkward for smaller hands. But I do look forward to it. I wish I had the YouTube link for you, but it's in this forum.

It's 0.3 mm thinner, 2.5mm narrower, and 4.2mm longer.
So it's going to handle the same. The length increase may be a problem if you note -barely- fit in a pocket before.
I actually laugh a bit when I read reviewers say 'it handles much better than the note 1'.
That's total placebo. 2.5mm is hardly anything.

I kinda have to disagree. I went to Eurogamer on Friday and briefly played around with the Galaxy Note 2. Straight away I noticed it was slightly slimmer than my note 1. To me it made a difference, albeit it a small one. But I definitely noticed it.
Well my wife its a shorty with small hands lol and she loves her note 1.. I wanted to change hers for a note 2 (like I'm doing with mine) and she answered me with a question.. Asked me if I want the divorce.. LOL... Don't dare to touch my note she said.. I was like ok ok chill out girl xD.. She looks awesome with her device Tho.. And made most of her female friends to get a note and ditch their icrap and blackberies hehe

I think looking at it causes a placebo effect since it is a slightly taller screen, and a thinner bezel.
We'll see though - several of us will get theirs soon enough.
I've been wondering if the more curvy corners assists handholding in some way.
The Note 2 sounds like an amazing device with the sweetest tech available for a hybrid device. My wonder is if the Note 2 is much more superior to the GS3 or will the GS3 still be the top dog. I know its all just opinion of who thinks which will be better but I just want to hear some of these opinions.

From playing around with the Note 2 I am happy to say that the pen has been calibrated SO much better than the note 1s s pen. The rubber tip feels a lot better since I don't feel like I'm scratching the screen and I did feel that the pressure sensitivity had increased. I'll be getting my note hopefully on Tuesday and I'll compare the two. I can't say about the speed until I've properly played with it.
I think the SGS3 will still be top dog, but the Note 2 will have better performance.

Awesome. I hear the phone also alerts you if the s pen gets too far away (handy for forgetful blokes like myself). I don't get my contract renewal til december 1st so i have to wait a bit before i get to experience the awesomeness of it. Thanks for the input.
HI,
I had a smartphone... and purchased a tablet. I upgraded to the Galaxy note II and I'm struggling with the need to keep my tablet too. I really like it. However it's kind of redundant as the Note is so big... So I thought I'd ask you the people on what you may be doing to take advantage of both devices?? I realize this has probably been asked before. I just can't seem to find may threads when I search. Thanks for sharing.:highfive:
I own both GN2 and Nexus 7. Really like my Nexus, but hardly use it ever since I got hands on this baby. It replaced my tablet in every single department and then some. And it isn't half as heavy
Although varies from person to person, obviously. I didn't get rid of my Nexus as I gave it to my dad since he wanted a tablet.

Same combo here but I use the N7 more, and when the Note 3 comes out IF it has close to a 6" screen I will dump the Nexus. I use the Nexus to watch movies at night and use it at work more than the Note 2. I can carry it in my back pocket. I use the Note when we go out to eat or a movie and around the house. Really hoping for a 6" Note 3
Wife has a 10" Tab. I have no use for that large a device.

Yeah as I said, boils down to personal preference. For me 5.5 is the maximum size that I'd be comfy of - 6'' would be too big for my liking for a phone. I can't imagine making phone calls with a 6'' monster
For watching movies and browsing, my Note II is perfect. My hands get tired like sick after holding nexus for long periods. Which is why again I prefer Note 2.

If the note 3 does have a 6" phone it will probably be the same total size as the note 2 but with a smaller bezel. So overall, in your pocket it will be the same. Also near your ear.

In fact you already have 6" phone in your pocket, 5,5"+ bezel is more than 6"

I have both the Note II and the Note 10.1 and I'm absolutely happy to use both
I play Dungeons & Dragons and World of Darkness RPGs every week, and I use the Note 10.1 to write down names, notes, etc, to provide a soundtrack if needed and to browse the game manuals
I have a 17" laptop, for my finances and serious research, a Note 10.1 that gets used for drawing and some games and a Note 2 that is used anytime I am away from home for what ever comes up as I carry WiFi with me. I also use my Note 2 as my ebook reader and to play some games that do well on the smaller screen. I just wish the Note 10.1 had the resolution of the Nexus 10.
Had a Nexus 4 and traded it for my Note 2. Also had a Nexus 7 but returned it not enough improvement in screen resolution and not enough screen size for a tablet.

Make a call on a 6" screen phone is no different than a 3" screen LOL. I make calls using the Nexus on WiFi. Personally I don't care what others think. When the first Note was announced people were so afraid of what they would "look like" making a call on a large device. I don't WEAR these things I USE them. They do not define me as a person in any way shape or form. They are a toolbox, a media center, and for some a toy to play games on as well
That said, I often have a wired earbud headset attached for music with a mic as well. If not I just use Speaker mode. The Note 2 is not loud at all.
Most people are in awe of the size rather than putting it down as being awkward. Many who see it for the first time actually want one in my experience.
Review
Ok, so I got New Note 3 T-Mobile version SM-N900T which is the latest version of the note. As one of the forum moderators I have always been a pretty big fan of the Samsung phones owning the Galaxy Vibrant, the Nexus, S2, S3, S4, Note 1, Note 2 various tablets and now the Note 3. That said, this is just a 1st blush review for people who might find my views helpful.
The Note 3 compared to the Note 2 is close to an ounce lighter , it is 1/16 inch narrower @ 3-1/16" versus 3-1/8" Both are just under 5 inches. My Hands are big and I am used to the size, the fact that it is lighter really makes it way easier to manipulate
The 1st impression is its lighter weight does not give the impression of feeling cheap. Gotta say I kinda like the back texture. Didn't think that I actually would but it has a nice secure feel.
The screen is remarkable, booting up faster than the Note 2 the Color is much richer than anything else I have experienced shy of a BluRay on my computer (which is a top end setup). Some new stock adjustments allow you to set the standard screen color setting e.g. dynamic, movie...etc.. Also it has a USB 3 socket on the phone for higher transfer rates and of course, it works with a USB 2 as well.
There is a on phone a search feature that is kinda novel phone though I am not sure how useful it is provides features as search last week, last 30 days.... etc
The Camera that is stock does have some nice on-board custom shooting and editing features. The Still Camera is noticeably better than the S4 camera, and the Video like most of the latest phones is excellent. One improvement on the still camera is its Infinity camera shooting. Much Much Sharper now, which was one of my common gripes the phone cameras all seem to suffer from. So this a real plus ! Like All the latest phones the Video is excellent tracks movement pretty well. Better than my Canon in fact.
The phone is pretty responsive and the new software provides custom touch sensitivity and a host of other interactive adjustments that let you make just about every custom tweak you can think of......... Remember this is a stock Rom only rooted...........
Most of the other things on it are incremental improvements compared to the Note 2. FYI the Note became the longest phone I ever have owned and consistently used--- The Note 3 Blew it off the top spot without doubt ....
For those who care Antutu got a 30394 and Quadrant was a 22580.. one thing I did notice is the fps are very consistent @ 60-65 at all vdo benches.
The Things I found I do not like that much are NO Custom Roms ...YET ☺ Battery life is not as good as the note 2 but that was a custom Rom so really not a fair comparison.
The HTC does have the 2 speakers the Note... still 1 speaker. Music on speaker the quality is a bit thin and a bit on the 2 dimensional side, but, For speakerphone calls it is just fine. With the Head phones/buds or Bluetooth speakers it really excellent. That said, if you are a headbanger for over driven bass then use Beats or something like that with this thing that would allow you to over boost the bass in a way some ppl like. This phone is really something it really rocks !
In closing, I am really glad I got this new note 3 if you need a business phones there really is not anything better than this phone.
I have included some photos to show how it takes a shot that is a long distance focal point... This was a rainbow tonight Around 7:10 pm the trees are 45-55 feet away .....
Comments welcome........
How did/do you like the S4? I love the Note 2 on 4.1.2, it's smooth and basically lag free. However I found the S4 a bit clunky and laggy. Could you perhaps comment on how they did with the Note 3? Mainly I remember on the S4 there being some stutter in the UI, and lag in the gallery and Touchwiz browser.
Thanks for any thoughts!

Note 3 has enough CPU power and RAM to handle even all those additional features Samsung added to the TW without any delay or lag.
It's a super fast smartphone. :good:

Very true, but that's what I thought about the S4, lol! Although the S4 has perhaps even more fluff and fancy features.
I'm glad to hear it runs well tho, thanks

So many of the early hands-on reviews have spoken ill about the new textured plastic back saying that it "doesn't feel like real leather". I've failed to understand the point they were trying to make in that statement. I don't think Samsung intended to fool a single person into thinking that the back was made of leather. They went for a new unique aesthetic that had a functionality benefit as well. In that regard, I think they succeeded greatly.
After getting my hands on one of these in store, I can say that my initial impressions from pictures and videos was reaffirmed. Aesthetically, it's great. I like the looks of the textured back a lot. The feel, however, is far better than I imagined. I expected it would feel like a cheap plastic cover. It is a cheap plastic cover, but it has a unique feel to it. It doesn't feel like leather, and I never once expected it to. It does, however, feel unbelievably better than the previous galaxy line back covers.

The S4 stock was not that good but the S4 with Carbon or any other custom was equal or better than the note 2 but not enough to want to change so I gave it to one of the other employees.... I am kinda lucky I buy all the phones for the company so I get to pick which one I want and try them all out.....
Like I said the Note 3 is such an awesome phone especially for business there is nothing else like it

Yeah, I would have run Carbon or Slim on the S4 all day, except for some audio issues that I don't think they have ever solved (it worked but not as well as on TW)... in the end I couldn't get happy with the S4 lol(well I also like the biggest screens now).
The Note 2 I am still using, and still love, and am glad to hear they got the Note 3 running nice and smooth. Will probably pick it up once I figure out the logistics thanks
Just traded my Tmo S4 for a Tmo Note 3 and wow, this thing is a Beauty and the Beast. It's a bit larger than my S4 but after 10 mins of setting it up, it feels like the size of my S4 and not big at all. Doing some reading tonight on the Note 3 and playing w settings tomorrow. My movies look incredible on this phone. The only thing that I have issue with, is the tiny speaker and low volume at max.
Ian B
Sounds funny but when I pick up and use the Note 3 I handle it just like all my previous phones with one hand unless using the pen of course, only when I look at it do I say holy crap this is big lol. I have regular non gargantuan hands but no struggling to reach a button as on the Htc One or mistakenly hitting power trying to lower volume on the G2. I had an S4 as well and the first thing to go was the stock launcher in favor of Nova Prime, glad to say I haven't even thought of using it with the Note 3, its just so fast and no lag whatsoever. I've even played around opening windows of other apps inside some games I play, writing a document out with the S-pen while inside Total Conquest plundering a village is mighty cool to me.
Today I flashed Darthstalker not because anything in particular was bothering me but I like the little changes he implements and some tweaks plus removing bloat is always a good thing. About that back cover, I love the way it looks and imo this phone does not look cheap at all. I never saw it in black but the white is quite elegant, my daughter thinks its not manly enough but I love my first white phone. I really liked the grip and feel of the back cover, it doesn't feel like plastic, I feel bad hiding it in a case but a phone this size is easy to lose hold of during the hand to pocket transition if you get distracted.
Flashed Darthstalker as well
This did improve the sound, and of course got rid of the bloat..... lame tmo sounds etc......
After using it a day ... I noticed battery about the same, volume is more, and there are some custom screen functions that are cool.
This phone is sizing up to be a real Rock Star
Is the Samsung Galaxy S7 as good-looking as you are (despite your receding hairline, adult-onset acne, and massive weight gain)? Rate this thread to express whether you think the Samsung Galaxy S7 is attractive. A higher rating indicates that you would even go as far to say that the Samsung Galaxy S7 is a beautiful phone.

Looks great, feels great, excellent speed and stamina. What more could you ask for?
Agreed, mine just got here. Lovin it!!
I'm about 36 hours in to having mine. Loving it. The size is a welcome change.
Going from a Nexus 6P to this, sort of I am still carrying both right now.. work and personal but I love the look and feel of this phone.. So much more manageable and really the screen size difference is not big enough for me to care.
I traded in a Note 4 for this (which I loved) and I'm thrilled with the smaller size. It's the perfect middle ground for me - not too big for my pockets. As a tall guy, I could carry the Note 4 just fine in my pocket and in my hand it was great, but I absolutely love the downsized goodness that is the S7. My note was always rubbing holes in my pants pockets because it's just slightly too big.

Came from the Note 4 as well. For a 5'0" tall, 100-pound girl like me the Note 4 was seriously huge!! I loved it to bits but it came to the point where it was impractical to carry and hold. I love the size of the S7 and generally the device looks so sleek and classy! I guess what the Note 4 lacked was that "premium feel" devices released afterwards have.

I'd prefer the phone be a bit shorter and wider (like the LG G2 I'm coming from). Otherwise, the size is nearly perfect for me.

honestly, I paid for the ad free version of the couple apps and games I use a lot, I have ad block plus for the samsung browser which is arguably as good as or better than chrome. So for me, that takes care of the second biggest reason I root. The top reason, is bloatware and with gatesjunior's debloater, I've blocked all the apps I can't uninstall and the phone runs great. I personally have really no need for root at this point. After doing these things this is hands down the best device I've had yet.
I actually just mentioned this in another thread. I have the Gold Platinum Galaxy S7 (not Edge). It is THE sexiest phone I have ever owned. Ever. I was very leery about buying it since it can't be rooted and I've rooted every single Android phone since the Droid, rocking Android 2.0.1, which I bought the day it was released. Though root didn't exist, and I had no idea what root even was for probably a couple months. Basically I screwed with the phone and set everything up that could be possibly customized on my own. At which point I was bored at work and discovered root while looking up what else could be customized that I didn't discover on my own playing with the phone. I was one of the 2% on VZW who had their 3G data throttled back by 90%. So I was also one of the first with 4G, getting a Thunderbolt, rather than waiting for the Bionic (luckily because that was delayed for so long, I was almost due for a new upgrade). But back to the point from my ADDetour, I barely mind not having root. I do wish I could customize the statusbar icons/text/clock colors/fonts. But otherwise loving marshmallow. And I've always liked touchwiz. And love this one. But that's only half of it. This is the first time I can say in terms of hardware that Android crushes Apple. It is one drop dead sexy phone. Though damn near every flagship Android looks better than the iPhone now. I even owned a few iPhones over the years, trying to accept them because I've always thought they were great devices, but none lasted more than a couple weeks before I sold em off and got a new Android. Even though I thought it looked better physically, and I always jailbroke them and tried to make myself like it, I always came right back to Android. As I said in my thread about getting a case for it. I want as little as possible. I have always just slapped a case on my Androids without a second thought. But I don't wanna cover this beauty up. On a scale of 1-10, I give it an 11. I just couldn't be happier with this phone. Well, once somebody finds the exploit to root it. But as a stock device. Never had one like this
I love the way the camera and flash is lined up. Screen is amazing!
Definitely the best looking phone I've ever had.

Just look slick and stylish. The glass texture feels great too!
Love the way it looks and feels in my hand. If i had 1 negative thing to say it would be the glass gets slippery when you hand starts to sweat a bit.
Love this phone, build quality, aesthetics and everything, its one of the best looking smartphones, sleek, stylish, premium even better.
