The title says it pretty much all.
Since the bootloader is not actually unlocked, is it still possible to do a nand backup/restore ?
Yes.
Yes. It's already mentioned on the Bump! thread's OP.
Thanks guys, and im sorry for spamming, i didn't notice it in the bump thread, but i did a search before posting this, with little as none results

Im still on 2.1, 1.39, my phone will not do OTA 2.2, says its already up to date but its not...I rooted using unrevoked 3.21, so now I'd like to know if there is any other files I need to update, radio, etc.
My goal is to upgrade to 2.2, so if anyone can direct me now that im rooted as to what else I need to update and how can I update to 2.2 I would greatly appreciate it, and keep in mind my phone is not doing OTA, so I will need to do it some other way.
On another note, if I select a custom 2.2 rom, will this already include everything I need, or do I need to 1st upgrade to 2.2 then find a 2.2 rom? I guess my confusion is are 2.2 roms "compatible" with 2.2 phones, or do 2.2 roms already include everything.
Thanks in advance

Im not trying to be a ****, but... Read any of the links on this forum.. they are 80-90% about what your asking..
also, I would recommend a RUU to TOTALLY wipe your phone..
Food for thought.
I agree with both of the members who just posted to your reply.
Reading the stickies would be helpful instead of wasting space on the "Development" forums for your "Questions".
I believe that it's ignorance that we do not like, not questions from newbies.
..you should "search" the forum here for flashing the Hboot .76 so you are FULLY ROOTED.
If you already have done this then you can click onto these threads you see and decide for yourself on a 2.2 ROM that you like and flash it.
Remember, you should have the correct radio and wimax flashed as they have updated since 2.1.
Additionally, you should READ all the instructions and do it step-by-step before you flash anything.
Last but not least of importance, make a NAND back up before you do ANYTHING. (have Amon Ra 1.8 custom recovery; will have saved an image of your phone+wimax partition).
If anything goes wrong, go back to recovery and NAND restore.
*Read first and do not be lazy. - Everything you need is already documented. This is not a QA forum but you can find it by going back one step and looking for Q&A.
Good luck.
Thread moved to the Q&A.
@jontorres,
Unfortunately, the other members are correct. You posted in the wrong section. For questions or comments not related to development, please post under Q&A or under General. This will save you a lot of flaming.
There are many stickies, but since you already rooted your device, simply download Rom Manager from the Market, download any rom you want (I can recommend myn TwoPointTwo) and flash it using Rom Manager.
There is also a whole section with themes and apps that you can browse. For questions regarding said apps or themes, either post in the corresponding thread or simply in the Q&A.
@Sporkman,
Please refrain from calling people names (referring to your "lazy" comment in case you are wondering)

At least you offered more help, however, its not IGNORANCE.
I HAVE already searched, unfortunatley alot of these threads are from someone like myself who "asked" a question, which in turn received HELP, however we all have different questions and although they may appear the same sometimes they are and sometimes they are not.
In my case I already rooted my phone as mentioned on my 1st post, and my question was simple and did not warrant all this nonsense:
My question was quite simple:now that im rooted, do i need to update any radios or other files, and do the 2.2 roms "already" contain the core 2.2 software "or" are they simply "compatible" with a phone which already "is" 2.2.
See none of you actually read between the lines at my quesation, you simply assumed Im asking the same question everyone else has already asked, so the same way you guys tell me to "read" 1st, I also suggest read my question properly.
As a matter of fact I even pointed out an issue with my phone to help in receiving a more accurate answer, because on another forum some moron said "do the OTA" and he failed to read that i clearly mention my phone says its already updated and nothing to update, YET it is clearly 2.1.
But anyways, apparently when you ask for help around here it obvious if your a newbie you just get smart remarks.

The unfavorable remarks aren't because you're new, don't worry about that.
The safest way to be sure that your phone was completely up to date was do all OTA's before you rooted, since Unrevoked 3.21 is capable of rooting and nand-unlocking even the most current software on the EVO.
It is not necessary for you to be on the most current baseband radio or PRI, but a lot of people on here like to be the most up to date. Pros are that in general you'll get a better battery life (due to a more reliable radio connection) and better 3G speeds (questionable).
Also, your question is not simple, as I am not clear what you are talking about.

What does that mean? What software? Also, stop using unnecessary quotation marks. I don't think you're using the right terminology, but I'll guess at what you want:
If you mean the radios, bootloaders, etc, then NO. ROMs contain only the operating system and possibly the kernel. Everything else is lower level stuff that you'll have to update via the appropriate PC36IMG.zip file. You'll need to search those out in the Development forums.
You can run a 2.2 ROM on outdated basebands and PRIs.
Honestly, you seem a little too frustrated with the free help you ask for on here. If you realize your mistakes, apologize, and move on you'll find the community here a little more receptive to your needs and slightly more willing to help you out.
I know the search feature may be a little complex, so don't be afraid to google your questions first.
hey there guys, i haven't found an answer to my question yet so i thought i would just post my question here.
With the new over the air update for the evo, I've heard that it is a root killer...
now, being somewhat new to rooting, i was wondering if i could re-root my phone easily, (like would unrevoked 3work?) and will i loose all of my apps and data on my phone? I know you do when you flash, and i don't see how this is any different than that but i was j/w. thanks guys i appreciate any help, and sorry for my noobiness.
You can flash the root version of the update located in the dev section. No need to unroot.
thanks man, do you think you could link me?

Hey guys,
im pretty new to custom ROMs and i cant ask this in the Starburst Thread because of the > 10 posts rule.
I currently have an older version of Starburst with Data2SD running perfectly on my Desire. Now theres a new version out and i want to update.
The things i would do now:
1. Nandroid backup everything of course.
2. Flash the new ROM
3. Immediately flash the Data2sd Reinstall zip
4. Profit ??
Will i keep all my apps and their settings with this method ?
Sorry for this low-level question but i couldnt find an answer anywhere to this.
Thank you.
That is correct!
Everything that you have asked is answered in the original post in the starburts thread

The 10 post rule ? Thats only for asking questions on a thread ?
It should not hamper your ability to read the thread ?
Its amazing what you can find out without asking questions ?
First of all thanks Raymond for your answer.
Thanks also to you mark for repeating what raymond said but instead with pointless flaming.
I hate people who cant read as much as the next guy but can you please show me where exactly in the Starburst OP the answer to my question is ? (I also read most of the thread, nothing there too.)
It seems like this knowledge is so basic that it doesnt get mentioned anywhere anymore.
Edit: Maybe I should have made my OP clearer: My only question was if i will keep all my apps and settings when flashing a new ROM version. Dunno why i repeated the installation steps, but my whole reason for this thread was to ask about the apps & settings, which doesnt get answered in the Starburst thread.
if you back up your stuff with something like mybackup you should be ok ? If you do a nand and the back up dont work you can alway use that ?
Best option to try if your feeling lucky is back up then nand then just flash over ? Worst that can happen is you need to restore the nand ?
Hello guys. After updating to Android 4, the old kernel ate my nervs and now i'm in thought to change the kernel. Today i saw an awesome very good working kernel 7 on 1.6Ghz for my LT15i. Please, can you guys help me with the steps of achieving the desired effect with first starting with backuping my current OS?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response but i've already searched the QnA threads(btw sorry for posting in the wrong thread). Nothing matches the information i require.
He meant that questions need to be posted in the Q&A section and not here in the General section.
If you're looking to back up your apps and associated data, you can do it with Titanium Backup.
Regarding your other queries, there are many threads already on unlocking your bootloader, rooting as well as flashing a kernel. [HINT: Try reading a couple of the stickied threads in this very same section].
Unlocking your bootloader is quite simple. Just visit the Sony website. [Link]
I'm sure you can manage the rest on your own.
Good luck!

than you need a nandroid backup.
The only problem is that I am with stock 4.1.B.0.431 and far as i know even the stock .62 cannot be rooted. And the backuping part is the hard thing of all.
The phone doesn't want to root. I've download rootable 4.0.4 but no root options available. I've tried to downgrade to .42 to root, but Flashtool aborted the flash... Help guys, i can't stand that stupid thing to eat my nervs before i've crashed it to the ground.
Hi, First off I am a complete noob to this and probably should of read which apps wouldn't work before I did this. Also i apologise if this has been posted elsewhere.
Basically I have unlocked my bootloader, then flashed TWRP and then flashed the Android Revolution Rom. I have then gone to install the barclays banking app (Im on o2 in the UK btw) and it says it cannot be used with a rooted device. This app is a lifesaver for me with the amount of money going out so i can keep an eye on it.
I have read into the RUU applications to be used after locking the bootloader but as far as i am aware they are not available yet. So basically my question is is there a way to go to 100% complete stock? so i can use the app.
Thanks in advance. Please remember i am a noob so please be clear if its technical haha :fingers-crossed:
Check my thread in my signature, check also post #2 it has a flashable zip to unroot the device !

Thanks for your quick reply, I have checked my software number and it is 1.54.401.5, so seeing that someone has put in a flashable zip on their post after yours does that mean i can use that? also im on o2 in the uk does this affect it? and when i run the zip in twrp does that unroot my phone?
Sorry for being so useless in this haha
EDIT: All done now flashed one of the recoveries that you have in your thread and worked a treat cheers.
Hello Mr Hoffs, I have seen your stock rom recovery page, plenty there, unfortunately none for mine.
I was wondering if you had any idea where I could get hold of cid 2___001 and a version main of 1.54.206.10 for my o2 HTC M8 please?
I have an unrooted phone with a constant nag about an OTA security update which I can't apply, this is very frustrating and much more awkward than rooting my S3 or N5 ever was.
Thanks in advance!
