SM-T520 TAB PRO 10.1 flash counter - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Hello guys,
I got this tablet factory refurbished 2 days ago... I was silly enough to root it 5min after unboxing it, only to find out later that it has rebooting issues usually after gaming, etc.. triangle away doesn't have this device listed.. I know I can't use the waranty if I don't get the counter reset.. I'm I screwed? can it be done?

Try a factory reset to see if the problem persists. If it does, try reflashing stock firmware using Odin. You can download that on Sammobile.com
You can also install a Custom Recovery (TWRP) and flash custom Stock Roms or even CM11.

So you think it most likely is software related? What are the odds of this being a hardware issue?
I'll try resetting and odining and report

If you disabled Knox that's probably why it's rebooting. Reflash the rom and when you get the prompt to disable know just chose no. It will work completely fine.

Yep, you are 100% right... I did a factory reset and this time did not disable knox in supersu. And no reboots anymore.

Can you share root method? Is your firmware version T520XXUANF4?

You will not increase counter if you only check.Btw, why you need to flash stock recovery again when you ready on stock ?
how do i check the counter? download mode right? i just wanna put everything back to stock and wait for updates that samsung put out. we dont have much dev support yet so not much roms to choose from unlike the 7100 model. i think i got everything to stock now just not sure about my counter. also when i click on software update nothing happens it wont stop searching. did i do something wrong with my phone. its not giving me an answer like no updates available or ur phone is up to date.

Did you exactly do step by step I post #2 if so you won't have this issue. Device status must be Offical that reason why you can't get update.
i did the cf root unroot method with the triangle app and supersu. i downloaded stock rom and installed using odin.
Did you do a factory reset, since Odining back stock? If not try it.

problem with unrooting. please help.

I unrooted my S3 by running triangle away to reset the counter and then installing mobile odin and flashing the stock rom from sammobile.com. After flashing I did a factory reset to wipe out the apps (I.e. SuperSU).
The issue is that now in download mode it shows that there is a custom rom and the count is one. I understand that this will void my warranty. However it is no longer rooted so how can I wipe out that counter so I can send my phone in for a warranty claim?

Flashing stock triggers the counter, it's normal. It's their update and should be fine. If they ask questions (highly doubt they will), you just say that you updated your firmware.
You would need to reroot and run triangle away again, but you should use the desktop odin to keep from changing the flash counter again.

I believe mobile Odin unroot triggers the flash counter. As mentioned above, use desktop Odin.

Just curious if you have ever sent in a phone with the flash counter like this.
I just got a response back from Samsung that they will not cover the warranty repair because it was rooted. I completely removed root by using the following steps:
1. Installed Trianagle Away and reset to 0
2. Installed mobile odin and flashed sammobile stock firmware
3. Did a factory reset to wipe out all apps.
They still came back and knew it was rooted. I couldn't use the desktop version of odin because my cable wasn't working correctly and could have easily lost connection and bricked my device.
Please advise if there is anything I can do now.

Flashing with mobile odin triggers the flash counter, therefor, they knew you used another way than theirs to flash the update. I'm not so sure what can be done from there. Maybe you can call them and make up some story, not sure.
Is there any other way to flash their stock rom? I'm running linux... I couldn't use the USB cable because I wasn't getting a PC connection so is there any way to flash a rom without the USB cable? I could tell them I did that. Or, is there any way to root a device without the USB cable. I could tell them that I followed a guide online to flash their stock rom.

Knox bit tripped, stock questions

Tried reverting my T999L back to stock last week and used the root66 firmware (4.3 of course) and was able to get my phone back in working condition, unfortunately the warranty bit is now tripped and I can no longer flash things inside of Odin (haven't tried mobile, probably the same outcome).
With the JUMP program through Tmo changing now and the warranty bit tripped, what are my odds of being able to trade it in without any questions?
Also, how would I go about going back to stock with Odin no longer working?
***I currently have the stock setup through root66, with TWRP recovery installed if that gives anymore info to make things easier***
Just because Knox bit is tripped, should not make Odin stop working. What is the issue with Odin ?
So long the phone's working, hopefully Jump will accept it. Not sure just guessing.

My warranty bit has been tripped and I can still use ODIN no problem
I'm running the T999L Root66 4.3 ROM on my phone and am planning on trading it in on Friday (hopefully) and want to 100% factory reset it. I've already grabbed the 4.3 stock odin file from doc's thread and I read through the thread, but couldn't find this answer.
Once I run the odin file and reboot it, none of my data should be there from before right? Or do I need to then hit the factory reset from inside the ROM? Will I need to run triangle reset after running odin? Everything looks OK currently inside the app.
Thanks again for everything!

You will have to go to Stock Recovery after flashing 4.3 Stock. Hit Factory Reset there and you are good to go.

Question about flash counter/unrooting and warranty?

Hi, sorry for these noob questions.
I have to send my device back for warranty and I just learned about the flash counter. So used triangle away to set the number back to zero but my phone's device status still says "custom." I read somewhere that a factory reset would be able to change that back to normal. I will try that soon, but I haven't unrooted yet. I was going to flash a stock rom (also read that that would change device status back to "normal") after changing the flash counter number, but wouldn't that change it to 1? How do I unroot without triggering the flash counter? Thanks in advance!

how do I check that?
Also, I tried flashing stock firmware with Odin before, but nothing happened except I lost root. And I forgot about the flash counter, so I rooted again and used Triangle Away. What do I do from here? I just went into download mode again, and binary status says "custom" instead of samsung official, even though I just used triangle away.
Can you post a picture of your download screen? Reason I ask is if you got knox bootloader your knox counter is most likely tripped and you can't reset it.. and to get official status you need to be completely stock, the system will check on every boot so no matter how many times you reset it, it will detect custom. You need to run triangle away, reboot straight to download mode and flash back to stock, after that reboot straight into recovery and do a factory reset. Those are the steps if I'm not mistaken

do you mean a picture of my download mode screen? basically, this is what it says (I guess typing it out is better, since the words are very small anyways)
Odin Mode
product name: SGH-M919
current binary: custom
system status: custom
CSB-OEM_Config_LSB: 0x30
Write protection: enable
and then there's the big green android, and "downloading.. do not turn off target" under it.
I don't think I have the knox bootloader, because I never upgraded to 4.3. I was always using 4.2.2 android before I flashed a custom rom, and I also don't have the two knox lines showing up. I'm guessing I'm fine as long as I can revert back to original stock and get my phone to stop showing "custom"
I first flashed the stock rom with Odin, then I used triangle away, and then I factory reset it, which is why I don't understand why it still says "custom" in download mode, because I should be on the stock rom already. If I boot into download mode immediately after I use triangle away, it shows "official samsung," but if I try again later, it reverts back to "custom."
If I follow the steps you mentioned, would flashing the stock rom cause the flash counter to go to 1?
No it will not because it is official and unrooted.. was it rooted or did you have custom recovery? Just do it the way I posted and see if that works

your method worked! my phone's device status now says "official" and it no longer says custom when I boot into download mode. So, as long as my phone says those things and I reset the flash counter following your steps, I'll be fine right? Thank you so much!!

sorry, I have one more question. you said to boot straight into download mode after using triangle away, so I pressed the top volume button to reboot normally, but then I immediately pulled out the battery, and then booted into download mode. The phone never had a chance to reboot, so there isn't a problem with what I did right?
I did the same thing after flashing. I just pulled out the battery, and then booted into recovery mode.
Thanks again!
Yeah that's not problem, that's actually what you want, to not give the system a chance to boot at all

I am trying to do something similar. I want to reset counter but it does not stick. ie when I use triangle away then reboot it still shows the count as 10.
Is there any way to get a stock kernel?
I am running stock rom that is rooted but kernel does not appear to be stock.
Right now I am looking for zip flashable NB4 kernel??
Looked for hours and cant find.
Or also would like any hints on how to get triangle reset to stick.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure you need to be on the stock kernal and recovery in order for triangle away to work. Maybe you should try flashing the stock rom, reroot and then use triangle away? that's what I did, because I wasn't using the stock samsung firmware
I flashed stock Firmware. It took 2 times with ODIN. The first flash added knox then I had to flash a second time to reinstall everything else. I now have a Knox 0x0 rooted phone. I was curious so I used towelroot and rooted the phone. Still 0x0 and root was succesful. I installed triangle away and it showed the counter was at 0.
Just unrooted and I will take back to tmobile to replace under warranty.
What they don't know will not hurt them.
It would encourage everyone wishing to have root to look into and support towelroot. It works great!!!!
Knox will still be tripped 0x1 if you flash custom ROM......but IMO it is worth it

[Q] NK2 Freezing

I had to revert back to NIE from NK2 because something in NK2 was causing my note to freeze up for 2-3 seconds occasionally. (The s-pen cursor would even freeze.)
I double checked, and all KNOX APKs were still frozen.
Any idea what I should be looking for?

Thats weird i have been running nk2 all day and its been great
Maybe flash one of the ROMs with nk2 and use that as a reset to reinstall everything. Sometimes a factory reset after an upgrade is needed.

I know. That's why I know I'm doing something wrong. How did you update? Since I'm rooted, I used KIES and then reapplied my root.
Go back to stock unrooted and reroot or try a factory reset first
Exactly. Unless you were stock unrooted and installed the official OTA update, you need to do a factory reset because for some reason left over files/cache, etc, can cause these kind of problems after flashing on top of an exhisting rom. Even before flashing back to a stock rom .tar using Odin, do a factory reset on your phone AND wipe everything in recovery. Then proceed to use Odin to flash the stock rom. This has always give me the best results and I've never had any issues doing it this way. It's a "for good measure" type thing and it works.
I'll give it a shot without any shortcuts.
I should be able to restore /data from my Nandroid backup after Odining to NK2, right?
Deleted.
My phone was freezing every 5 seconds on NIE, after i update to NK2 the freezing disappear

I updated the same way you did, I was stock rooted (no other mods) and updated using Kies. I rerooted and it's been running fine.
If you update the phone using Kies while its rooted, do you know if that fixes OTA updating? Or does it just remove root again?

When I updated my rooted phone using Kies the phone's status was reset to Official. That makes me think that it would allow OTA updating next time as long as you don't re-root.
