Hi,
I am using CM11 and would like to switch to ART. When I do so in developers options, the phone reboots and it takes a long time to update and optimize the apps (with several iterations on a subset of total apps). Once I get to the lock screen, I unlock and get constant systemui process crash ("stopped working"). If I reboot again, the phone starts normally but has automatically switched back to Dalvik.
I always wipe cache and Dalvik when I flash an update, but should I also wipe data during the automatic reboot process when switching to ART? What is the exact sequence of actions to successfully migrate? Lots of TeamCanjica succeeded with ART.
Thanks
Somer APP do not like ART. So it could be that some installed user apps are not compatrible with ART and prevent the swtich to ART.
Best and most secure way is to beginn from scratch... Factory reset/Data wipe... Booot completely... Then switch to ART... And start installing your apps...
For sure there are some which do not want to install themself.... But this is normal....

So I flashed the latest CM7 nightly on Sunday, installed from zip. Since then some of my apps have been force closing. Some are google apps like maps, and voice which I need day to day, others like facebook twitter, multiple browsers and engadget. I tried clearing cache, and battery stats as I use different batteries, and fixing permissions. Since then I have flashed CM7 RC 1 and two different MIUI builds, and have had the same problems with those. I haven't installed from titanium backup, just from the market. Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: Now even XDA is force closing
I randomly started experiencing a similar problem recently with CM7 RC1... a lot of my apps were randomly force closing including the android core process...
Just now, I decided to wipe and reflash... now I'm having a new issue - the phone is not recognizing the radio.. it says "Baseband version: Unknown"
I can't activate the phone because the second I hit SEND, android.process.acore force closes.
Anyone have any insight?
EDIT: Just wiped and flashed CM7 Nightly build #8 - NO RADIO ISSUES OR FORCE CLOSES SO FAR
I am having similar issues. I am running CM 6.1.0, ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5, and radio 2.15.00.07.28.
I think just about every process has forced close at some point. Frequent offenders are messaging, youtube, and google framework.
Which caches and/or application data should I try clearing?
I am thinking of upgrading to CM7 RC1 but if the corrupted data remains cached will these problems follow me?
Did you wipe dalvik cache? Or possibly try different kernal.
It's back to working at %100 today after flashing CM7 which made my home button not work, then a sense rom.
I have an update on force closes as it pertains to my installation of CM7.
We need to follow the instructions accordingly. What I mean is we need to wipe everything that is suggested in the thread introducing the new ROM.
I couldn't load the new ROM from ROM manager. That is when all the force closes kept happening.
We must go into recovery and format the system, cache, and data from the Mounts and Storage Menu. Then, wipe Dalvik cache, battery stats, cache partition, and data/factory reset. Then install the new .zip from the root of your SD card (Both ROM and Gapps).
This is what worked for me. I have had no force closes since doing things this way.
Also, restore data only from Titanium Backup; else apps revert back to the previous ROM settings.
This may not be exactly the way things are intended by the wonderful developers here but it is what I have found to work.

I read on cyanogen mod forums (thread here: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/15898-app-force-close-on-cm7-rc1/ )
And it was noted that its a known issue, and that re-installing the app worked, or running fix_permissions in terminal.
I installed fresh CM7 RC1, installed a few apps from market, ran fix_permissions and no force closes so far. Might try out the nightly
I can switch to cm7 or any other rom and i do not get this issue. I have tried to clear the contacts storage cache and the framework cache and rebooted. Still problems. I also turned off auto sync. I even wiped the dalvik cache and system cache.
This is really frustarting it only happens with the rom i want to use. Any help guys did i miss something?
Hi there guys,
I had an issue last night which seems to have "corrupted" data on my phone. I'll try to explain. I am running AOKP milestone 5 with Franco's 512GPU #191 and I was on the Play Store updating some apps. I remember that it was something like 10 apps being updated (I recall seeing Youtube, Google+, Maps, Instagram and Chrome in the list to update). While the apps were updating I went to the Franco Kernel updater app and changed the Power Mode to one of my customs, that is max CPU 15xx MHz, min CPU 12xx MHz, governor Performance. Went back to the Play Store to check how the updates were going and then the screen went black and the phone started to reboot. After that, it took more than the usual time to boot and when it finally did, I had everything "messed up". I had a dialog asking me what launcher I want to use, I choose Nova and all the widgets can't be loaded, followed with lots of Force Closes. Almost every app I try to enter leads to a force close, and I have noticed that when, for instance, I open Toshl or other apps in which I had info, before it force closes it behaves like it was the first time I open the app (asking for the login info, etc).
I tried going to recovery to clear Dalvik cache and cache partition, tried to Fix permissions, without any luck. Is there anything I should try to do before wiping everything? I have some app's data that I didn't want to lose... I could try to get some logs if someone leads me on how to do that.
I really don't think that this is directly related to Franco's kernel or AOKP, but would sure appreciate some help/guidance!
Thanks!
Also I have just tried to dirty flash AOKP M5 and gapps again (wiping cache partition and dalvik cache) without any luck... Anyone has other ideas I should try before performing a full wipe? I am leaving the full wipe to my last resource.
Thanks
Try running using fix permissions from your recovery, it sounds like they may have gotten messed up
Should I reflash ROM and gapps after fixing permissions in the recovery? Or just fix the permissions and reboot?
Thanks!
Also, how long should it take to run the Fix permissions? My recovery is showing me "Fixing permissions..." for almost 10 minutes. Is this expected?
Thanks!
EDIT - It seems like I had the same problem reported here: http://www.drewgreen.net/wordpress/tag/galaxy-nexus/
I followed the steps and am now waiting for the fix permissions to finish. Will let you know if it helped!
EDIT 2 - Although I don't think it is perfect (I'm still getting FC's on Swiftkey, for instance), it has recovered almost everything! Now it's maybe a good time to make some backups and do a clean install!
Thanks!!
I had everything working perfectly. Just finished restoring all 382 of my apps through titanium backup pro, then I tried switching to ART on CM11 Nightly. So naturally, I ran out of space during app optimisation (at around the 250th app)
Now it's extremely laggy, and I can't open up any apps besides settings menu. (because the Google Now launcher keeps crashing)
If I switch back to dalvik, will it restore the memory?
Or should I just wipe, and reflash the ROM?
EDIT:
I switched it back to dalvik, and for anyone wanting to know the answer, it does restore the memory. But not all of it.
Before switching from dalvik to ART, I had 1.5GB free, when switching back, I now have 429MB.

I just suggest you do a full wipe :/
Press thanks if I helped!
im on carbonrom and i think about to switch to art but i have a few questions:
can i just, when all apps are installed, switch to art?
or is a fresh rom without apps recommended?
if i then flash my rom updates, i stay on art or im back on dalvik and i always have to switch back to art?
sorry, i have no experience with the use of art.
thanks in advance!
You can turn on art whenever you want with or without apps however the next boot will precompile all your apps that you have installed so it will say optimizing app X of XXXX apps and will be a very long boot however after that everything will go back to normal and the phone will boot at a normal speed and it will feel just like dalvik. When you update your rom it may reset it to dalvik I don't know of but I would assume it would. You should have slightly better app launch times with art enabled because the apps are precompiled.
thanks but if i change to art when all my apps are installed and one app is for example not compatible with art the device will boot anyway?
ive just tried it out but the device booted normally without app otimization and after the start flickered my screen and i had to reboot.
im still on dalvik...
