Hello all,
I have just recived my Sony Xperia z1 compact and want to install CyanogenMod on it. :cyclops:
However, this is my 1st smartphone.. EVER.. so I haven't the slightest clue on how to do this.
Can someone explain to me how to do this so I can restore the phone back to factory specs incase of a warranty issue.
I want to back up everything so I can revert back to stock and relock bootloader if needed so sony can't tell I voided the warranty

That thread is there to help, so if reading guides like that is an issue you're going to have problems. Are you even able to unlock your BL, if not you can forget CM anyway. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2631291

I followed the instructions on there website and it seems to work.
But I have massive battery drain
You can install Wakelock Detector from google play to see what is causing the drain

OK so we got a SE Experia Arc S LT18i with 1253-8238_4.0.1.A.0.165 ('prototype' model on loan from a friend = prehistoric!) and looking into upgrading the thing if at all possible.
So if I am correct it's a case of: 1st: Root, 2nd: Unlock bootloader, 3rd: Install recovery, 4th: Flash ROM of choice
Bootloader is locked and phone not rooted.
Tried using Flashtool to root phone but it is greyed out so tried Tools > Root > Force zergRush = fail, (not tried Force psneuter/Emulator ?)
Tried unlocking bootloader using Flashtool, but this also failed (SE unlock website wanted IMEI code one digit less than the phone reports?!! got a code by ditching the first 0 of the IMEI, but didn't work anyway - crashed phone)
Attempted to root using command line ADB method to push zergRush and execute the script, but this too doesn't work (phone crashes and reboots).
Fastboot? I have it installed but not yet come across any how-to's that use this (did I say yet? )
The apps available on Play Store seem to be automations of above methods for one-click users.
Further exhaustive reading/searching here and on talk.sonymobile.com leads me to believe that the first step might be to flash a different kernel version before it's possible to root, after which everything else should fall into place...I'm up for trying this but of course don't want to risk bricking the phone, so backing up first would be a good plan, *but* I need root to be able to install recovery! I know enough about booting operating systems to know that changing kernel version with a locked boot loader might just result in bork! This is where the expertise of you guys comes in!! Maybe you know that flashing another (similar?) kernel will be fine with Fashtool even without unlocking bootloader and rooting phone? Perhaps I missed a simple and easy way of rooting? Any suggestions very welcome - thanks in advance!
FYI: *I only run Linux* so pointing me at any of the windows tools on offer is of no help to me
Oh and PS: yes I have searched and found a ton of helpful info, well actually *way too much* info to the point of saturation and confusion!!
There can never be too much information, yours and others problem is that you try rushing through it, because if you didn't you'd find the answers you were looking for.

Well it's not the quantity of info, but the quality of info! Failing that the filtration system used to distill the good stuff out!
Anyroads, I was still hoping for someone to chip in with something like "Yeah go for it, that will work fine"! or "Don't do it, try this instead"!
I'm believing from my readings so far, that short of flashing an incorrect radio, or interrupting a flash process, it isn't easily possible to brick an Arc?

I would have just tried it instead of starting a thread to ask, failing that I would have then read the stickys/guides explaining how to unlock and root.

No, you would just use the flashtool to flash a stock ROM.

Ok cool, so Flashtool can be used to save an unbootable device too then...

Me too.

After rooting my phone and flashing CM10.1, I began to run into some problems. I figured I'd just unroot, so I followed this guide. After successfully completing the procedure, my phone status still reads "modified". Do I need to do a wipe to remove this? Also, was it not a good idea to flash the rom through odin from a source on the internet that I haven't heard of (No offense to SkunkApe, I'm just paranoid)? I just want to be sure my phone is secure and that I'm running stock JB. Thanks in advance.
Edit: I don't know if this means anything, but I can check for updates without my phone telling me that it's modified...

I believe you got your answer in another thread but factory reset should fix that.

Hi,
I want to root my device and on a previous thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2684273),
I was basiclly directed how to flash a new rooted rom, with a lot of steps on the way.
I didnt rooted my device and i want to do it now.
As i understand there is now a faster less complicted way - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900.
Is it safe? was it used already by forum member here? how long the entire process needs?
Thanks in advance for any input....

Depends on your aptitude and ability to follow instructions, and a hell of a lot longer if you need to start a new thread for others to hold your hand through the process.

Ok, I'll do my best to follow instructions and be as patient as possible.
You are right regarding the "holding my hand" thing, i dont want to brick my device, yet....
Any real answers?
Thanks any way!
It has over 100'000 downloads, so I think it's safe to say that it was already used by forum members. The entire process takes around 1 minute.

If you are using Sony Z1 Compact, you can use every firmware you want (which is available as of today).

One last question( for now...), this procees will root my device without Unlocking the Bootloader ?
It says in the thread:
Bootloader is untouched!

This means that if your bootloader is locked, it will stay locked.

HI
After first Android 10 update for Xiaomi A2 Lite my phone was bricked and I had to factory reset. Since then I didn't update my phone but somehow it downloaded the latest update. So I turned off auto update from developers options. But someday ago it started overheating and became laggy even the ram management is poor now plus the bluetooth problem. After that I saw people downgrading to Android 8.1 and they said it made the phone much better. Then I thought that I should get back to Android 8.1 as well. But the problem is I never rooted my phone or any phone and never updated the phone manually. So I don't have any kind of idea about these.
Now if anyone can tell me the simplest and the best way to downgrade to Android 8.1 without any problems(Like SIM problem or anything). A video would be best. I don't want to mess up and factory reset because I don't want to lose my data again.
Thanks In Advance.
Your help is very much appreciated.

As I mentioned above I don't understand these things. I read that thread and every comment but it went all over my head. That's why I am asking for step by step simplest and problem free procedure. If you can make a video about it it would be best.
Thanks.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83327295&postcount=8 describes the whole procedure. Which part exactly don't you understand?
If you google "how to flash stock rom mi a2 lite", you'll find videos describing what you should do. Good luck.

So I saw some videos in youtube but have some questions
1.I have to wipe my data anyway for unlocking bootloader. Right?
2.Will there be any problem like sim swap, sim not working? If yes how to solve that.
3.If I lock the bootloader after downgrading will my phone become normal like it was?
Thank You.

Seems complicated, but isn't.
Is better you flash full stock rom (more minutes required) like me on january 2020.
If your problem is how to use MiFlash, you can find many video about MiFlash.
