Trying to fix my gf T-Mobile s3. Won't give a reliable battery charge and overheats to a ridiculous temp. I am wondering how many have tried flashing as a solution to the the battery problems plaguing this phone. I appreciate any input. Droidednvoided/rootednbooted
Sounds like a bad battery to be honest.. Is the battery bulky or swollen?
Or just plain old?

I've had the phone for about a year and a half now, but just recently it started overheating, but I can't explain why. I'm running stuck 2.2, not the OTA and I've never had issues before, but now my phone overheats so bad that the battery life is affected, I can't even get it to last for an hour without even dying. I got a new replacement battery, but same issue.
Could anyone give me some insight? T-Mobile tells me to upgrade to the OTA and everything will be okay, as if. Haha.
I had the same problem with my G1
Overheating, battery that last 1 hour and the battery won't charge.
There was a short on the mobo
I would try getting a new battery. I have had some weird things happen on bad batteries.
He already got a new battery, stated in the OP. If a new battery didn't solve it, sounds like bad circuitry on the inside.
Hello,
My battery life hasn't been so great as of lately. IDK if it's ICS or if because my battery is nearing the end of it's life but sometimes my phone reboots and I lose like 30% battery out of nowhere. Is there an app that anyone can recommend to test to see if a battery is still good?

Its kinda an issue with our phones from what i can gather. It seems at 50% or lower it will drop in large numbers when it reboots. I read if u have to reboot to turn on airplane mode before reboot. They say its a fix but i can not confirm.

Not sure if it's an app to test if your battery is still good but you can test if your battery is bad by taking it out and see if it's bulging on the sides.. Also if you let you phone die alot or alot of deep charges that will kill your battery (its best to charge our batteries as much as possible for long term health)
In the meantime you can grab GSam battery monitor from the market or better battery stats to see if it's something chewing up your battery

Are you stock ics or are you on a custom Rom ?
If your stock ff18 ics, this is as good as it gets. If on custom Rom you may have options to tweak settings and save some batt, custom Rom wise the better ones are near stock, the more bells and whistles custom roms have the greater battery hogs they are.

Hey all,
I am experiencing something like 5% in 10 minuttes on the phone. I've tried different roms and of course stock. Also different kernels. I've tried letting the phone completly drain it selv and afterwards letting it charge fully before booting up again.
I know the phone has terrible battery, but this is crazy. I use 1% by just looking at it, it seems.
Can this be a bug or is the battery done for?
Have you made Factory data and used Google's stock Android ROM..?
This sounds like Battery problem so maybe it's good to change battery.
How long have you had your phone -- if it's been a long time, the battery might have degraded over time (as most batteries do). If that's not the case, your rom could be reporting battery stats incorrectly. If flashing the stock google rom doesn't do any good, your best bet might be getting a new replacement battery.
Hi, I bought my wife a used 2014 edition some months ago and it seemed to work great but the battery didn't last very long. Recently I started playing a few games on it and realized that the problem was worse than I thought. It would say it was at say 60% but after 5 minutes playing a game it would go into power saving mode and be at around 14%. So I bought a new battery and it does the exact same thing! When I go into the battery setting it doesn't show anything using much power but something drains the battery as soon as you use it for almost anything.
Has anyone seen this before. If it doesn't tell me what app is draining the battery, how can I fix this? thanks
you are preaching to the choir. this is a big problem with these. the batteries are honestly easy enough to change but it is pretty much impossible to find an actual samsung replacement. they are all cheap knock offs that cant handle the voltages of the tablet which causes its own set of problems. I got one and it does help get more out of it but when you do anything too intense especially with less than 60% the thing will just shut off. total bummer. there are a lot of batteries out there just be careful of what you buy. and if you find a good replacement let us know!
I found a thread that seems to attribute this to faulty battery connection to the motherboard and someone who can weld can fix the problem. Has anyone else had success with this? thanks

As graffix31 said, this is a common issue. If you contact Samsung, they should be able to tell you where you can get a direct factory replacement battery (if they are even available still). Other than that, all you can really get is aftermarket ones that, like graffix31 said, can't handle heavy loads. I can vouch for that myself. Replacing my battery was definately an improvement over the old battery. I still have some issues though, but I've found ways to avoid them. If you are rooted, with any cpu management app, you can shut down 1 of the cores and reduce the maximum output of the others. This prevents mine from overloading the battery. It isn't ideal, but it works.
When I got my Note 10+ 5G, all they had in stock was the Aura Glow which I wasn't very keen on, but they said to take it and try it out and then get it exchanged if I wanted later.
The battery life was amazing on it where I got around 10h sot. Since I've swapped it for a black one, the battery life has been absolutely terrible. Exact same setup, same apps and same version of Android. Most I get now is around 6h sot and the standby drain is very high without a specific app causing it.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be? Defective battery, something in the background causing the drain that I can't see, or perhaps different tolerances in the cpu or other components they use which just makes this particular phone heavier on battery drain?
I would love to find a solution for this as I know how good the battery can be.
