[Q] Galaxy Tab S 10.5 vs Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
So the time has come for me to finally buy a tablet. The problem is, I can't decide whether I should get Tab S or Note Pro. Would love to hear your thoughts and advices on performance, stability, battery life, screen quality and tweakability.

So why are these questions continually posted in General. .... Q&A!. I think it even asks "is this thread a question" when creating a new one.... Please ask a Moderator to move yours and others same. Thanks

The screen quality and battery life of the Tab S are amazingly awesome, note couldn't improve that. The main question is do you need the S-pen?

Google it.. you'll find it. People in this forum are supposed to use galaxy note 2, not its alternatives or vs... something, so its hard to get a best answer here.
I don't think its good idea to create a thread to ask these kind of questions.
Thank you.

Get the Note 2 you won't regret it...even after 2months of using it I still get amazed at this device.

Id say Note 2...I came from a nexus 4 which was great but the Note 2 is elite....or the best I should say!!!!
LG Nexus 4
-Pros; Vanilla Android, faster GPU&CPU, more developers friendly (it doesn't need to be actually)
-Cons; worse screen, sound, battery life, heating issues, cracking glass, unable to use the real power of the GPU&CPU(still higher on the GPU side than Note 2) , LG is untrustable even with Google behind them. Samsung may be messing things with their bad quality check but even they did not screw up on a Nexus device. No FM radio, no greater memory than 16Gb, very small and developer un-friendly resolutioned screen size.
Sony Xperia Z
Pros; Perfect screen, water and dust resistant body, superb camera (doubt that since its 1080p outdoor shooting was only 6000Kbps), thinnest body, Sony is so trustable about making non-breaking (not pysically) phones. Sony is so developer friendly, this thing can change a ultimate Newer Nexus device with the right support.
Cons; relatively smaller battery and S4 Pro is battery hungry we all know, screen is only super when looking at a certain angle, other than that it is color shifting, Sony is known for slow updates if you want to stick with stock ROMs, 5"screens real usable area is smallerr due to the onscreen buttons (actually I love them but they would be better on a bigger screen).
HTC Droid DNA
Pros; Reflection proof, super bright, outdoor visible screen, 5" is the real estate of it. And black&red are very good together, design is attractive.
Cons; only for US market, Butterfly variant is als available only for a few ****ries, HTC is developer enemy, barrery life is no comparison with Note 2, no SDcard option.
Other than my 2 concerns about Note 2s are either going to die from SDS or be outdated due to their GPU's bottleneck, our devices have no competitor and awesome. And let's not forget there is a risk that Samsung may forget Note 2s and S3s completely once the S4 and Note 3 are out. They may even pretend like they are not existed

Note 2 vs S4

Note 2 is the best phone ever. I doubt if S4 can surpass Note 2 .
We need phones that can last 24 hours without recharging and Note 2 almost does it.
S4 has dropped the 8 core for battery life issues.
We need more phablets and Note 3 will be based on S4.
s4 isn't even launched and we are assuming there will be another note... lol
to me s4 rumours sound like those of iphone 5 which said it would feature a virtual keyboard.... what we got!!.. just an inch longer alumimium box... **** HAPPENS

It already had a virtual keyboard since the first iPhone. Lol

Lol! What specs are you basing this comparison on? There are no official specs on the S4! When we get them, then we can compare. Otherwise, I can just as easily speculate that the S4 will allow you to open your car door wirelessly, and be able to launch a holographic interface while face down. Lol. Let's just wait a few weeks and we'll get the info Until then (or even after the fact) enjoy your Note 2 / S3.
I'm just wondering how many more s4 vs n2 threads we'll see before it even drops.

I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question

[Q] Is SGN-II worth buying?

Sup guys.
I'd like to ask owners of SGN-II - do you guys think this mobile is worth buying now, some months before release of SGN-III? It - presumably - will have better hardware and bigger screen, but would it really matter?
I'd also like to ask if somebody uses SGN-II on a regular basis to take notes and stuff - I'm planning it to use as a student (Bc.) instead of "old" paper notebook and wonder if it's screen going to be sufficient for that.
Cheers.
If you wait for the note 3 you might as well wait for the note 4. The s-pen works really well for taking quick notes but the screen may be a bit small for your needs. Have you looked at the note 8.0? The note 8.0 would be a lot better for taking long notes, IMO.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Imo the note2 would be too small for your needs. I have note2 which is an awesome smart phone but I wouldn't use as a educational tool, I also have the note 10.1 which given the extra screen space is a much better option.
I also recently sold the galaxy tab 7.7 which I loved and only sold as I realised my note 2 is JUST large enough to make a small tab unnecessary, so now I use the note 2 while out and about and the 10.1 while at home. Just my opinion.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
As someone who's got all three of the current Galaxy Note range, I'd say the Note 8.0 would be best for your needs. The screen on the Note 10.1 looks like fuzzy garbage and it's a bit too heavy to use comfortably as a paper notebook replacement. The Note 2 is ok for quick notes but not suitable for use of any duration. Note 8.0 is the sweet spot, both portable and practical. Battery life isn't the best but it will get you through a full 8 hour day.

Thank you for your suggestions guys, I'll take a look at Note 8, however I really liked AMOLED screen on SGN-II, looks so... vivid and bright after my Desire S, lol.
Y'all may think I'm crazy, but I went to the AT&T store last night to look at the LG Optimus G Pro and compare the screen with my Note 2. As far as resolution goes, I couldn't tell the difference and my daughter agreed with me. Maybe if you hold the phones 5 inches from your face you would see the big difference that everyone is talking about. The only thing that looked a little better to me were the whites. The speed I've been hearing so much about, well my note 2 was just as fast at scrolling, loading apps and browsing the web. Maybe its the rom and kernel I'm using (Hawkish rom and Perseus kernel). I'm glad I went and looked at the LG because I was jealous of the 1080p screen that I've been hearing so much about, but no more. The Note 2 is a fantastic device with a nice screen and a tone of features. The development is outstanding as well with the Note 2. We have a lot of very talented devs.

Some suggestions were made about getting a note 8 but you could also consider getting a Bluetooth keyboard to type with the gnote2. Take the nerd factor to the next level.

Hi,
Simple answer. Yes.
I am a student but I make my notes old skool with pen and paper. The Note II is fast and smooth enough. After 2 or 3 years I will buy the Note 5 or 6.

The Note 8.0 screen is pretty decent too even though it's not Amoled.

[Q] Galaxy Tab 3 vs Note 8 very small difference in price

Hello everybody,
I know there are tons of threads about this and there is probably not a definitive answer, but I just need to ask you a simple question. I have an iPad first generation, so it is time to buy a new tablet. I want to switch to Android, as I got the Galaxy S4 and I really love it and I like all the possibilities with mods, thanks to your wonderful forum. I want also a smaller and lighter size compared to iPad.
So here come the question: like many people I am torn between the Note 8 and the Tab 3 8. I know all the differences and I read all the possible comparisons (I have also played with both of them in store). The fact is that I like the smaller size and lighter weight of the Tab 3 and I don't think I would really need the pen, but I live in Thailand and here the price difference between the 2 is only 30 US $.
Do you think I am crazy if I get the Tab only because of size and weight, considering such an insignificant price difference?
I hope the question is not too silly, but I really cannot make up my mind...
Thank you all for your help!
Since the price difference is so small, I suggest that you get the device that you like best and that suits your needs. I own a Tab 3 8.0 which I really like (it does everything I need it to do), but if the price difference between the Tab 3 and the Note 8 were just 30.00, I would have bought the Note 8 because it does everything the Tab does and more.

The obvious difference is being able to use the S Pen.
Note 8.0 would be a better decision coz it has got quadcore exynos chip and 2 gigs ram compared to dual core and 2 gigs of tab 3
And also note 8.0 has a chance of getting official kit-kat update in future

Galaxy Tab S 10.5

Hi all,
I wish to buy a new tablet but I'm wondering about which one to buy.
At first I was off on a galaxy note 10.1 2014 but after seeing tests on galaxy tab s I am interested, mainly thanks to autonomy.
By cons I read about several who said that the processor was not great and the tablet knew several lags.
My main use will be surfing, a little play and some times few films.
So what tablet choose to have a good flow and very good battery life.
Moreover, I'm French, can I buy my tablet in Canada and install a French ROM ?
Also, do you think the galaxy tab s will receive android L ?
Thanks a lot !!

Don't be discouraged by the videos in the post above mine and the negative comments by others. I'm sure those who say they are experiencing serious lag isses actually are. But not everyone is having those issues. My tablet does not come anywhere close to the lag on that video. It's hard for me to believe it's the same tablet. My tab S is the best tablet experience I have ever had and I would not try to turn anyone away from it. My suggestion is purchase it from a company with an easy return policy and give it a try for youself. If you experience the issues like in that guy's video return it for another one or move on to something else.

Well I would suggest you try it before you buy it or buy it where you can return it without restocking fee or any problems.
While the tablet has a good screen (a bit over saturated and unrealistic colors) it's kinda nice how the colors pops out.
If your main usage will be surfing, I don't know if all of them are that way, but at least mine and 2 others that I tried at different stores had something like stuttering while scrolling a web page, let me explain it. When you are scrolling, instead of the text scrolling with smooth movement, it jumps, sure those jumps are "small" but that jumpy text at least on my case was causing major headaches at the point, that I stop using it and return it (and paying $75 USD for restocking fee). Those jumps are more like it's dropping frames. On my opinion that is not acceptable for a "high end tablet", also when I tried for 20 minutes Asphalt 4 I saw some frames dropped. Also just typing or deleting something it was laggy. So this tablet for web browsing/e-mail, in my case was useless.
If you want to watch movies, I saw some on my 10.5 and yeah it was nice for scenes with vivid colors, but when there are shadows, because the blacks are to deep you loose all detail on the shadows, and instead of shadows you will se only clipped blacks. (not everybody will notice) but my hobby is Photography so I really notice this.
Battery life, well it's ok, not the greatest (comparing to my old iPad 2)
In terms of quality build, imo it's very good.
Well at the end I got a tab pro 8.4 and it has been a pleasure to use. Not a single jittering/lag issue as I was having with the tab s, I would probably say the problem of the tab S is that uses the Exynos combo.
Again, maybe all this issues I had with the Tab S, not everybody may notice, but for those who are sensitive to things like this, is a pain to use. That's why you will read some mixed opinions. So that's why I will suggest you to TRY it before with cold brain and not letting you get blown by the oversaturated colors.
My .2 cents.
