Need help with a battery help thread... Specifically App Ops - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
I'm working on a Battery help thread for the M8. Similar to this one in the N5 section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785128
I know we have a battery thread... But this would be for Troubleshooting only, unlike the existing thread. Especially useful for newer, more inexperienced members.
Trouble is, I have little experience with app ops and don't know if it's even available for Stock Sense or Sense roms.
See post 3 in the thread I linked.
Looking for a post like that one, but specific to the M8.
Any help would be appreciated. Preferably a post of your own to go in the thread in post 3 again, and preferably from someone who will frequent the thread to assist people, especially with Post 3 related help.
I don't have the time to learn all that, as I have enough going on with the site and real life.
Worst case, I will just not include app ops on the thread. Though it would be nice to include it. ?
Thanks guys!

My Head's Going to Explode - Sticky's == Good

With the amount of editing and new versions of ROM's and applications, and people's suggestions, it takes going 39 pages deep into a thread to get any good info, or a download.
For Example, Kavana's thread, Rickwyatt's thread....my god. Is it possible to sticky JUST the latest version of ROM's, applications, etc.
So many versions of everyone's ROM, it's hard for the newer people (such as myself) to know wtf ROM to get, and to know if they're inclusive to updates from the previous version.
I installed Kavana's lastest ROM a few weeks ago, but I like some of the updates that Rickwyatt has done, but it's so hard to understand the progression of versions. Also Rickwyatt's threat makes my eyes bleed with all the ascii seperating the versions. A FINAL version would be nice, and a list of what it includes.
Another sticky with add-on links or attachments would be key as well. I think keeping ROMs and apps down to a few threads would be a lot easier for people who are new to flashing to understand.
I wish we had a moderator in this forum, that actually took care of these things, but it doesn't look like one exists.

I think you're absolutely right. Doing so would eliminate a lot of the redundant questions that continue to be asked. By the way, it bothers me when noobs get pounced on because they ask questions that have already been covered. Unless they've been lurking for weeks prior to registering--how are they to know that their issues have already been adressed several times before?! I'm by no means an expert...but I am a tad more knowledgeable now than I was when I first logged on here. I STILL have "noobish" questions here and there! Some are VERRRRRY NOOBISH! lol But I would hope that someone would lend a hand to help me out from time to time. ((exhaling)) Whew...
I agree with everything that what just said. I am new and I find it hard to search for anything because I don't know what's new or updating. I started a thread for help and no one seems to wanna help.
I've been here for a while now, I just don't post as much, only if necessary and mind you, getting my thread sticked - The Upgrade from Windows 5 to 6 Guide was a mission. I even asked to be the moderator for this forum because I really have a good idea as to where what can go, Me & OrganicM/Ricky/Kavana/RIPSyntaxx are some of the members I can think of as moderators. I asked many times to be the moderator but I didn't even get a reply to know if I was selected or not.
If I'm elected as the moderator, I'll organize everything as soon as possible and delete threads that are not needed and taking space for no reason. I'll do it accordingly
1) Guides for Upgrading/Solution to Errors etc
2) SIM/CID/APP Unlock
3) ROMS
4) Registry Hacks/Tweaks
5) Apps
6) Backgrounds/Themes
7) Games
6) Suggestions
7) Etc
- That's just a quick rough format but you get the drill
and let me tell you something, I completely agree even with whatever that's been said, even though I'm an old member - I had to dig through threads to even find stuff that's worth it for me, for example - registry tweaks for OldSaps Favorites to work - cmon now :S
I had to search and search - so why not make it easier for all newb's and old members so everythings organized and in one place??
Can some moderator help us out? In the smartphone section, we have the most Excalibur users compared to other phones. I'm not putting anyone down but there's many threads compared to others.
Why not make 3 moderators for each section? If you guys think I'm good enough to be a moderator, I don't mind. I'd be happy to moderate - If not me, no problem - Anyone senior who knows the subject and knows what to do to keep this thread clean !
Please Help Us, Moderators !

Let's make this guy moderator. newbs like me need a guide.
I agree! This forum is great but looking for the information is become more difficult and sometimes confusing.
I agree we need some moderators here, but i think we might have to post this on the general Section, see if we get the moderators to help us out.
I fully agree. I joined this forum just a couple of weeks ago, and it's been a living h*ll waving through all the threads here at XDA and at Howardforums just to find the solutions I need. Even the FAQ threads at Howardforums are ancient and 50+ pages, just a lot of stuff to read.
Get a poll going on.
I definitely agree with this and strongly urge EVERYONE to support so we can get 3 moderators. I myself can be one depending on user response as I'm familiar with the layout, the content and have been here for a while to know what's good and what's not. I was the one who wrote the The Windows Mobile 5 to 6 Guide and I know it helped a lot of people. Before, people used to post questions non stop and eventually a lot of users got frustrated. I do suggest a FULL CLEAN UP of this section and I could get it done hopefully by the coming weekend if everyone here helps me out to become a moderator. Here's my suggestions for moderators
1) Organic (AMAZING Contributor - The 6.1 Slide Panel King)
2) Outerdepth (Very Helpful - Has the knowledge and the resources available to help you)
3) PudgeDaddy (Was one of the prime reasons behind Weather Panel and has contributed a lot as well and is very helpful from first-hand experience
and finally Me only because I do have the extra time to help clean up the mess, have the knowledge, have been posting regularly and finally know what to do when it comes to helping the majority of questions.
It's upto you guys and someone has to e-mail the Moderators because I did in the past and No Luck. Finally, I'm not sure if everyone's willing to do this (from the 3 that I suggested) but I definitely will be happy to do it.
Keep Posting and Let's do something about this, guys !
What do you say guys?
Help me out here.
if you want to provide useful, up-to-date info, why not use the wiki?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Excalibur
I will be happy to moderate the threads and forum here. I'm here almost 24 7 anyway. I've also tried to PM other moerators and even the admin...with no luck.
After reading this thread, I feel like I'm on Capitol Hill. lol Re-elect lukybandit for District 4 congressman!
I posted a verbose request for Mods (or making our own) to the staff here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392112
Please visit, and maybe tack your approval on too? If everyone does this, it might affect them more?

I did my part on this lets hope we get more people to comment on it so we could get this going.
I'd be more than happy to moderate the Excalibur thread as well. I am almost here 24/7 myself. Me, Organic & one more person who is a regular (so far I've seen outerdepth to be pretty regular and jjdograz - not sure if thats the right username) but yes both of these are very helpful, have the knowledge and are pretty regular. I'd definitely help this forum out. I know what to do and how to get rid of the junk as soon as possible and help this thread a better place to be. Right now, in my opinion - it is a nightmare. So many newb's and even old-timers have such a hard time finding the right information. As Windows 6.1 is the current ROM, Me & Organic will collaborate and break it down for everybody with the right sticky's and information needed to get your 6.1 up & running without errors. Furthermore, I will have Recommendations (for apps, regedits), solutions to errors etc. You get the picture. I love XDA and so does almost everybody. Without XDA, my phone would have been a HTC s620 but thanks to XDA it's now a customized and highly modified machine.
I've said what I could have, please read my previous posts to see what I would do and how I would do things. If you don't think I'm the right person, no problem
I only want 3 moderators in this forum so visiting XDA could be a peaceful one. As of now, the search function has been fully abused, atleast by me because I have such a hard time finding the right information when infact, all the crucial information should be stickied.
Anyway, do your part and help get this going. As it'll only benefit newbies and ofcourse old timers, it's best we get to this as soon as possible. Thanks
Cmon guys we got to get this going so we could have a beter looking forum and make it easy to all of us to find updates.
I think the ROM cooks just need to learn to use the wiki. e.g. have a table sorted by date of all the ROMs and a page about each.
Good point... but the question is... will the majority of the users use the wiki ? Nope.

Re: Forum Suggestion /"State of the Site"
i tried posting in where i felt was the appropreate thread linked to in the "state of the site" but it has already been closed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10673299
anyway i completely agree with many of the administrative decisions discussed there. i just have some suggestions to help those work, coming from my experience as a new member my first few days. (few weeks ago)
first of all how did i come here? google searches for questions i had about my captivate. after finding info on XDA few times through google, i realized this is a place i may want to check out more, but it took some looking around just to understand the BASIC POINT of what XDA was all about. Something that would really help people understand "THIS IS THE PLACE!" could use a short, straight to the point "sub-title" at the top of your webpage beside your xdadevelopers logo. something that reads like:
"the home for smartphone development, troubleshooting and ideas.."
the second small issue i want to bring up is new users not being able to post in development forums. WAIT!! I AGREE WITH THIS. BUT, when i was new here i was seeing not able to post in a dev forum talking about something i needed info on, and i was seeing other minor members in other threads getting "chewed out" for posting in a "developers" forum.
HERE WAS MY CONFUSION: www.xda-DEVELOPERS.com it appears to a noob straight off the google express that the whole site is developers...
i started looking for www.xda.com forums.xda.com ect....
it took a bit of searching around the site before i realized the "Developers" section that i couldnt post in was the SUB-forum of the Captivate sub-forum.
it was just a bit confusing until i saw the layout of the site for all the different phones and the sub catagories each had.
i hope these suggestions can bring forth some ideas that can help the integration of new members.
Thanks for your opinion
Yah, I really like your idea. We're going to consider it.
what ever happened to these suggestions?
dude i flet the same when i first got here! great recommendation!

Hi there,
I'm a noob and this is my first post so please don't rip in to me for this or for the fact that I am resurrecting an old post
I thought that it would be better to quote a post that reflected my feelings and possibly (hopefully) answer my questions.
I have an HTC Inspire that I imported into Australia from gsmnation.com as I liked the feature set of the phone and it was compatible with my carrier over here unlike the Desire HD that is available locally but not compatible with my carrier.
I have lurked around these forums as an unregistered user since having my phone and used the great advice shown to root it and put Android Revolution 4G 4.0 by mike1986 on it.
Have been very happy with it but now I want more.
In particular I would like to put Gingerbread onto it with Sense 3.5.
I had been following a thread about RCMix3d Runny v4.0.
I took the plunge and registered at XDA but now I can't even view the thread without getting the vBulletin message saying that members without a post count of 10 or less cannot post in developers threads.
Fair enough I say but surely we can at least view the threads.
I can view various other threads but i cant even find the one mentioned above.
Can someone tell me if the thread has been deleted (all 1264 pages according to Google cache search - I was up to page 127!).
Have tried searching using XDA's custom Google search feature but can't find the thread anywhere.
Any advice about whether the thread still exists or if I am doing something wrong that is not even letting me view the thread.

Ah Ok.
Thanks for the quick response...Very impressive.
Is there an alternative for this ROM or another sticky for that one around the place or has it been obliterated from XDA?
I have downloaded the ROM to my PC but if there is no longer any support for it on these boards then my quest for a nice GB ROM will have to continue.
I wonder how receptive capychimp is to noobs? I am in awe of the guy

why ten post

All I want is to post my questions and answers in the rom forum of my choice
ya, i thought that was dumb too. i dont really care about the rest, just trying to figure out this rom
What rom would the be
The ten post limit is because alot of new members post questions in the dev section. If you are a general user of xda then a ten post limit is nothing.
Maybe try a different heading thay describes your problem in a nutshell. By the way what is your problem, you never said.

I agree with the ten post rule and actually believe it should be a higher number
Or even better if you had to be approved by a mod to be able to.post in the Dev section

Yeah, it is not that hard to get ten posts. Besides all you really need to do is read for a while. The development section is for the pros not for the questions that have been asked a thousand times
That is what this section is for!

Not at all, actually. While myself and others are also guilty of posting such banter in ROM threads, that isn't where it actually belongs. Questions posted in the ROM threads should be posted only if they're concerning the actual development of the ROM rather than the usual "how do I...?" or "wow, this Rom is great, thanks dev!".
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713251
It appears a reminder may be in order, about the purpose of the development fora on XDA.
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

Ten posts?
I tend to read and only contribute if I have something to say. Not in this case! Now I have to post just to post. Gee this is kinda fun. I think I will start posting meaningless drivel on more topics. Thanks ten post rule!
Ya post Hi in the introduction thread then Thank everyone who welcomed you. Hell, there's at least 2 or 3 post. Then check out the development (apps/games) and find something you want there and thank them for their hard work.
10 posts shouldn't take you more than a few days if you're active. Don't need them anyway as the question you're wanting to ask has already been asked.
10 post is annoying, but I understand the reason. Post.
This is the reason for the 10 post rule.

I think that makes sense. That way not just anyone can say I am a dev. I think that with the work your guys do it should have some prestige to it.

The only reason I use XDA is as a root resource; this is just irritating that I have to post these ten msgs.

Moderator question

I am sorry for starting a new thread but I am a new user on this site and I am using NRG's rom and would like to provide feedback. The site has a 10 post pre-requisite to post in developer forums. Is there any way to remove this early. I don't have too much to discuss on the forum otherwise.
Thanks for reading this.

There is no way to lower that, however, there no doubt is a General section where you can post regarding the ROM - also, where you might be able to post helping those who need help. You'll get to 10 posts in no time that way
Yeah I guess your right about that one. lol Fine!

Hello Noobs, and welcome to the XDA Galaxy S3 US variant forums! I've been answering alot of questions in the q&a section, and many in the general section where they don't belong, regarding issues that I like to refer to as "Android Hacking 101". These questions are, but not limited to, things such as how do I root my phone, what is a bootloader, how do I get better battery life and maximum performance and make my gs3 the greatest most wonderful thing on earth that everyone will be jealous of? (I made that last one up, but you get the idea, lol) I was a noob not so long ago, and I still have lots of questions, but I've learned how to walk that fine line of asking a question without making anyone want to shoot me, and also how to effectively search. I have a website to share with you all and you'll find it in the link below. The website is galaxys3root.com founded by user zedomax and he has tons of sites specific to several phones! He's an amazing guy who has tons of knowledge that he's kind enough to share with the world. On his Site you'll find both written & video tutorials where he will personally walk you through the rooting process, installing a custom recovery image(cwm), and installing a rom! He will also review some of the top roms for each gs3 variant and describe the features of the rom in detail. His sites are a great way for beginners to not only get their phones rooted, hacked, & with custom Rom, but to actually learn what exactly all of these processes are. I will also leave a link to his Site androidroot.org, where you'll find a plethora of other Android hacking videos that will provide you with tips and information regarding android development, and he's also quite entertaining. Please check out both of these sites, and I promise you'll learn a few things if all of this is new to you! Please remember to thank zedomax if you see him here on the XDA forums. I answer most any questions for beginners politely and I try to be as helpful as I can by sharing anything that I understand enough to share. I'm far from an advanced user, but I'm an avid reader and I soak in as much as I possibly can here on XDA. If you are new and you have any questions after you check out zedomax's sites, then please feel free to PM me & if I can't help you then I'll at least get you pointed in the direction of a thread or someone that can. I did not make this post to bust anyone's balls, like I said I'm no pro & I had all the same questions not too long ago, but I've been seeing a lot of these questions floating around and I've been including these links in all of my answers so I thought I would just make a post with the links as opposed to answering the same questions over & over. Good luck to all of you, and enjoy your new device!
Sincerely,
