I just got my Kindle a few days ago. It came loaded with stock 6.3.3. I was able to root it using the SafeRoot guide.
Then I installed TWRP and a custom rom, JB 4.3.2.1 I wanted to update TWRP (currently at 2.2.2.1)
so I could try a KitKat rom so I went to the play store and installed TWRP manager to do the update but
it told me I needed root access. I am not sure how I lost root, I thought that installing custom ROMs
wouldn't lose root, as it had no effect on my Galaxy S3 in the past when I put custom roms on it.
Any help is appreciated.
Mostly likely superuser is just slow to responded, or allow/deny popup never popped like it should.
But I would just update twrp in twrp with a flashable twrp.zip from my list http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2811253

Well, finally decided to make a thread after hours of searching.
I've got a rooted kindle fire, and it's been working fine for the past month. Out of the blue last night, I turn it on, it won't boot past the animated white and orange kindle fire logo. I still get the usual blue logo beforehand, the device is recognized by my pc, i can boot into fastmode, get into TWRP or CWM, I'm just not sure what to do from here.
Most other people with this problem seem to be stuck in fastboot, while i'm not.
Any help would be appreciated.
It sounds like your kindle's current stock rom got messed up
Here's what you should do:
Boot into twrp
Transfer a different rom to your kindle
Wipe what's needed
Flash the new rom
Reboot

Thanks a bunch for helping identify the problem Any specific rom you'd recommend? CM7 or ICS?
Also, would you be able to link me to a tutorial on what needs to be wiped, as well as how to flash said rom?
If you like stock you can get modaco
Gede rom looks very customizable
I'm on modaco now
Wiping nd flashing depends on the rom
Do you have TWRP or clockwork
I know more of TWRP

Which zip would not flash in recovery?
The only zip you will flash in recovery is team epic root from recovery. And it must be flashed in the recovery that was installed with Odin.
If you let the phone restart after flashing recovery in Odin the custom recovery will be replaced by the stock recovery.

As a TOTAL noob: appreciate the easy explanation! Waiting to do this myself, but have a few quick questions first. I've done a lot of reading up on rooting but I'm still not entirely clear on a few things so I'm hoping someone can explain it to me like I'm five:
1. Can I accept over-the-air updates from Sprint on a rooted phone? i.e. when they push Android 4.2. If not, do I unroot and reroot to update? Do I have to uninstall everything?
2. Is there something I need to install after doing this? I previously rooted an HTC EVO and remember having to install Superuser immediately after. Anything similar here? Looking to ultimately run wifi tether so any advice toward that end would be greatly appreciated.
3. I'm a little confused about rooting/flashing and some basic definitions. Are they the same thing? I hear a lot about CyanogenMod - what is it and is it coming into play here?
Thanks so much!!

This is not going to be a straight up yes or no answer. If an update comes ota to your phone, you will be able to receive it providing you:
1. reflash stock recovery before accepting it.
2. haven't flashed a custom rom
3. haven't removed any required software. The ota will look for certain software and files. if the required software and files aren't present the ota will fail
None of this should concern you though. There are ALWAYS ways to get the updates while being rooted
2. Is there something I need to install after doing this? I previously rooted an HTC EVO and remember having to install Superuser immediately after. Anything similar here? Looking to ultimately run wifi tether so any advice toward that end would be greatly appreciated.
These instructions seem like you are doing many things. You aren't. There are really only 5 steps. I just broke all the steps down in detail. Really all this is:
1. Downloading all the files to your computer
2. Installing your Samsung Drivers to your computer
3. Copying one file to your phones sd or external sd card. (Team_Epic Root_From Recovery)
4. Flashing CWM Recovery to your phone with Odin.
5. Flashing TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery-v5.zip with CWM Recovery
The Team Epic File that you are flashing in recovery installs superuser, busy box, and in addition removes two files needed to make recovery stick.
3. I'm a little confused about rooting/flashing and some basic definitions. Are they the same thing? I hear a lot about CyanogenMod - what is it and is it coming into play here?
Rooting is really nothing more than giving you the user, the right to access root or system files. It has very little to do with flashing as you can flash updates with stock recovery.
Flashing is simply installing something in a tar, img, or zip format. tar files are flashed with Odin, zips are flashed from recovery and img files are flashed or pushed with adb (Android Debug Bridge)or fastboot.
Cyanogen is a rom. roms are very simply the phones operating system and user interface. They're called roms because their files are kept on read only memory. There are many roms out there for our phone.
Awesome, appreciate the prompt response - thanks so much!!
Thanks!
Thanks for putting this together. My new gs3 arrives tomorrow and I have already prepped my computer with your files in anticipation.
I'll report back how it works out.
Thanks again!
One more thing
When I do get my phone should I activate it first or root it first or does it matter?
I know it voids the warranty but I guess I could unroot to take it in for service if needed?
Thanks again.

I would activate it.
This works with the 4.1 update, correct?
I previously had the Galaxy S1 (Epic) and went through several custom ROMs before finally going back to a stable release with root because of dissatisfaction with the ROMs. My phone never really returned to perfect functionality after this experimentation, and always had some buggy glitches and many FC's. Now that I have a perfectly running GS3 with Android 4.1, I would love to be able to wifi tether and install apps like adblock and Titanium Backup Pro, but I am hesitant because of my past experience.
Do you think there is any reason at all that simply doing this root procedure would change the functionality of my perfectly smooth-running GS3?
I have stock 4.1.2 and I used the Obdin + CMRecovery + CM_Root_Superuser_3.1.3_BusyBox method to root. Everything goes fine with the process, no errors, and I get the super user app in my list of apps. When I go to install Titanium Backup it tells me root access failed...
I have also tried the OneClickSuperUser app and at first it told me that I was already rooted, I proceeded anyways but it got stuck on step 5 displaying waiting on phone...
I'm not sure what else to do. If anyone could please help I will give them my first born.
Thanks.
Lol you too, I did the root thing like 15 times, I was ready to slam the phone on the floor
Haven't looked yet but can we revert back to ICS then root? Don't know if we can downgrade as I don't have this phone. Looking to root my gf's and she is on jb as well.

Did you try installing TWRP with Odin? After you do, you can enter recovery, then reboot system from within recovery reboot options. When you do that, you should get a message asking you if you want to install SuperSU - TWRP will do it for you. After you have rebooted, SuperSU will install and give you instructions to do the rest (i.e. update binary or something).
Hope this helps.
Yep. That worked great. I came from a Moto phone so I had no idea rooting could be so easy! Lol.

This is the root method that worked for me when I rooted my brother's T-mobile GSII. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcMioCHOsm8 and I attached the files you need. It worked fine. The only thing that was hard was actually getting into the stock recovery lol. Also heads up when you flash a 4.2.2 rom you have to also update your cell radio or else you will just have a media player

Hey guys,
I have looked around for the solution to this but can't find one.
Starting out rooted, I updated my phone to SkyNote 4.3 (not sure if that helps) and still had root for a minute. I went through the process of setting up the phone how I like it, and after a few restarts, the root went away. This has happened twice. I've read posts where people talked about Android 4.3 deleting root but here's where the story gets interesting:
The threads/posts that people are pointing to to fix it is pretty much centered around Chainfire's post on Google+ https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/Jkuu84odnx6 .
The difference between the similar posts are that Chainfire has updated the version over the months. I have tried flashing that update zip over and over but I still have no root and the SU app is still buried in my system/app folder, which of course I can't delete because I have no root. I guess my questions are does anyone know how to delete this system/app apk for SU without wiping and starting from another ROM or know how to correct it in general?
Thanks you guys for reading.

Thanks, I didn't think about that, but because of my unique situation, I couldn't even get 1click to recognize my phone. So after searching more and more, the answer is exactly what I was doing but a more updated SU zip. It's in the second post of SkyNote 4.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46798454&postcount=2
That may help another Android 4.3 ROM user

I have the exact same issue with my SGH_I317M. I rooted with CF-Root, flashed TWRP, flashed Skynote 4.3, flashed the update, flashed the Rogers modem and flashed the WIFI fix all with ODEN. Everything works. Even WIFI. But I lost Root. I made 2 full backups with TWRP. 1st. right after flashing TWRP still with 4.1.2 ROM and the 2nd after flashing 4.3 and all the patches. When I restore back to 4.1.2 all is good. When I restore to 4.3 Skynote, I loose Root. I tried flashing the SuperUser Update but it fails. Any help would be much appreciated.

My last comment should help. When you flash the update, make sure it's the one from the post above. It carries the latest SU. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to do, but it worked for me because the SU binaries want to update but it needs the correct one.

Thank you Deon. I was reading this thread yesterday using the XDA app on my mobile for the first time. I downloaded the updated binary from this thread using my mobile. After several install failures I opened propertie for the zip and discovered it was empty. I downloaded the update from the OP through my PC, transferred the file to my SD and now all is good again with my root. CHEERS!

So I am trying to figure out among the many threads how to get Xposed Framework on my LG G3. When I first got the phone I realized it was being worked on and now I decided to see what's been going on and realized all the threads. I've rooted my phone using this method, http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3129197, I have tried the one method of getting TWRP on my phone one of those one click apps and it bricked my phone so now I'm back to stock and rooted. Currently my software info is as follows, Android 5.0.1, Build number LRX21Y, Software version D85021q. Could someone just send me the proper links that won't cause a brick again? Thank you. What happened to the good old days of just installing the Xposed APK on a rooted device?!!

Thanks I'll give it a try. Kitkat was easier with it, that's what I'm saying. I miss when it was as easy as it was to install on kitkat, Thanks again!
Since updating to v21a trying to install exposed just leaves my phone stuck on the splash screen. Uninstalling it with the zip file restores my phone to working order. Has anyone else experienced this and know of a fix?
