Just wondering how much your battery goes down per hour? Seems like my battery is getting worse. So I was interested to see how your battery is. Im talking little use. No 4g on. I went from 99% to 89%. I downloaded one app.
Im running stock kernal doexed with cwm and thats it. No roms or anything.
Phones pretty new but I get 10% hour on epic4g with an extended battery, but that's for like the first 20% after that it moves like a snail. Basic battery saving techniques are applicable across all androids so any that you may find should help. Screen brightness has been the cause of me losing hours before so keep it low!

Let's Go NYG NYJ
I unplug my phone every morning at 5 am when the alarm goes off. use it all day until I plug it back in around 7 pm and rarely has it ever been close to 30%. Just sitting there with the screen off and nothing running I probably only lose about 2 % an hour but i use the phone a lot and haven't had a day that I haven't been amazed by the longevity of this device. The only time I had a battery drain issue it was caused by an App I had downloaded. Once that was removed it's never been an issue since. Misbehaving apps are something most people don't look at and instead blame the phone.

This is so true, right away people say it's the phone's fault.
It's hard to say, because I'm afflicted with the "Android OS" bug and it took up 50% over 8 hours (6.25%/hr) while I was sleeping. However, when I"m actually using it, I'm seeing 10-13%/hr on 3G with good signal.
Currently using latest calk rom I get about 2 hours using my phone for browsing thr internet at home. When 3g is turned on it drains even faster.
It has always been like this. If the phone is set on idle without 3g and wifi it lasts about 10 hours.
also it takes about 3 to 4 hours to fully charge, i feel this is too long.
so any rom that might help me? is the battery faulty?

Blazer ROM
why are you using your phone to browse all day long ? use a pc or a tablet. its a phone not a desktop pc. plus put it into airplane mode and then turn wifi on, it disables the cel/data radios hence the battery last longer. If your phone takes 3-4 hours to charge from 0-100 something is wrong with it. turn if off and charge it, cuts down charging time A LOT !
That is ridiculous. But I've been using Blazer Rom for about 2 weeks now and I always get 30 hours+ battery life. I just got 3.8 and I hit over 40 hours just this weekend.
well, um, wow, those are some ... great suggestions...
you might have a bad batt, sure.
i would think it is likely something else though.
a few things off the top of my head.
is this on a "clean install"?
is there some app you have loaded that might be pinging/updating constantly? (I'm on the exact same rom, getting all day at least)
what modem are you on?
did you flash a custom kernel?
do you know how to take a screenshot of battery usage? show us what processes are eating it?

Nice miracle rom, bet I could kill your phone in 6 hours using it . I get 20-30 hours on my days off. But no rom will make up for the amount of use one can put into their phone.

Ya sounds to me like theres a problem with your install or something i was on calkulins and my battery life was great. Lasted like the other guy said at least a day under pretty heavy use.

I get great battery life with Blazer 3.8.
Idk about 40 hours (WOW!) but I do get around 3-4%/hour battery drain so it's not bad at all.
Try re flashing the ROM. That sounds abnormally for ANY rom.

It could be a bad ROM (bad install, not the ROM itself), but don't presume that's the case.
Measuring whether the phone is draining appropriately is difficult to do when it's in active use (e.g., 2 hours of browsing) ; thus most people measure effective drain by measuring the drain rate when the phone is 'sleeping' -- though in some cases a bad app or bad install will prevent the phone from sleeping.
I would recommend charging the phone to full, leave all default radios on (GPS/Wifi/3g), and let it sit for an hour or two. If you're losing more than ~3-5%/hour, then you have a problem.
Tools you can use:
- CPU Spy - Will show you whether your phone is entering Sleep state or not
- Battery Monitor Widget Pro - will measure your mA drain rate; during sleep, you'd want it to be at least below 20mA, ideally below 10mA (note, this app requires a couple of charge/discharge cycles before its measurements are reliable).
- Better Battery Stats -- If you find your device is NOT sleeping, this will help you figure out what applications (including the kernel) may be preventing the device from sleeping.

Your point? I could kill my phone in 6 hours too, but why would I want to do that? I play games all the time when I'm out at work or just out in general and I still get over 24 hours of battery. I never use my phone when I'm at home, that's what I have my tv and computer for.
how long has it been since you flashed? Maybe it needs a few cycles to settle. Do you have any wake lock issues? get betterbatterystats app, free for xda members, to check for kernel or partial wake locks.
I'm on BlazerROM 3.7 and getting about 1% every 2 hours on idle. It took me a week to see the battery life i'm getting now. My wife is on calks 2.8.1, I don't know what shes getting but when she gets home from work, she's still around 50%. On stock, she was typically around 30% already.
how do you get betterbatterystats for free as an xda member?
I'm on blazers and i'm at 79% battery at the 7hr mark on battery.

I have seen this "mystery battery drain" problem in other threads. There is usually an app responsible. Try Watchdog, its not bad.
I also have heard that SD card or file errors can be responsible for the drain. Formatting the memory takes care of the problem. If it were me, I would format the memory, then run chkdsk (Windoze, or the equivalent in another OS) to mark bad sectors. In the case of internal memory, you will have to do that through the USB cable. Do so at your own risk, of course

The point is you walk into someones situation and act as if their usage of the device on whatever rom your on is going to produce a parallel experience. One of the biggest factors no matter the rom is screen brightness. If you spend most of your time out doors the experience is completely different even with the same usage patterns otherwise. I love screen brightness personally, haptic feedback is nice too who cares about the battery when the experience is better?
I have games on the phone, GTA III, MC2/3, Dead Space, etc. I don't actually play them. I remote into my PC, browser the web. I have a TON of apps that use the phone idle/background. I keep steam and im+ pro going. I let TEP ping GPS data every 10 minutes. Weather widget, google voice, etc. I even have Samsung Apps installed with its oh so horrible push service that apparently rapes peoples batteries... cant say it hurts at all.
Today was a day for me where my boss was around so I couldn't use the device much and when i did it meant leaving things like a remote client on because I couldn't touch it to turn it off. 52% battery was left after 12 hours so it obviously was going to survive the 16 hours I am awake, going to sleep now so it would easily last 24 hours. But the battery being Li-Ion and me actually caring about it, its going on the charger. Tomorrow could be 30 and the next day will probably be 8 hours.
As far as the topic is progressing. Check your apps and your settings. Ive had battery life so bad the phone died on the charger. Same rom, same apps slightly different setup later and I am getting good to acceptable and that constant wake this guy is probably getting is gone.
If your using a lot of push apps, you're battery becomes nothing more than a decoration, lol. Apps like aim, kik, basically all the chat ones. Games like words with friends. The more apps you have checking for updates on top of heavy usage with kill your battery fairly efficiently

Which personally was part of the issue before on my setup. I still have them going again and battery life is decent. I mean Id want 16 hours out of a phone surely whatever my day is Ill have it on a charger by bed time.
I personally usually get 12 hours or more on days Im not using it constantly, 6 to 8 if I am using it every waking second. 24+ on days off. Haven't tried blazer in particular myself yet but Calks seems manageable even for demanding use.
So I bought my ATT GS3 out in Los Angeles this summer and then I returned to New Jersey to find that I have horrible battery life. It was not right away so this could be completely unrelated. As of right now my phone is at 75% and I let it drain while i was sleeping for 10.5 hours. I have tried several different roms which are usually good the first two days and then after that the battery life is bad again. I thought it may be some application I have installed so I removed a few of the ones I remembered downloading since I got back to NJ. I also updated to the latest radio ending in H9 because I was two behind when I checked. I have attached some battery information below. Any help anyone could provide would be great. I have tried Juice Defender which did save some battery life but it also caused a problem where I couldn't use the internet for 10 seconds after I wake the phone.
U need a Rom with cell standby fix
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I thought the cell standby problem only effected the international GS3? If the cell standby fix was the problem then I shouldn't actually be draining that low right? Something must be draining the battery then. Google maps is probably draining the battery but how do I stop that from happening?
No its not just international and it is cell standby using almost 10% battery

try Triune ii or Black jelly 0.7 i tried them both on my s3 these both hav good battery backup..
Ariel 2.10 fixes everything!
I just installed the standby fix and im going to test that and see if it helps. If that doesn't work I'll try the other roms everyone has suggested. Will take a little while to make sure whats good and whats not though. Thanks for the advice.

Just another observation. Battery tends to drain faster if you leave it in your pocket. If you flash a rom, you might have to calibrate the battery stats. I only lose 1% every 2 hours overnight if I leave it on a cold surface.

So I have tried a few different roms and I'm still not happy with the battery life. I calibrate the battery after every rom installed and I usually keep that rom for atleast 2 days to test it. Right now I'm on AOKP. If the phone is on standby whats the general %/hr? When I go to sleep my phone drops from 92%-75% for about 10-11 hours (on desk at temp 60F). By Apocalypse487's response I should only see a drop of 5-6 % over night when I see 17%. Am I supposed to me losing this much battery life over night? To me I feel like I barely use my phone. Today wasn't too bad with 1 hr with screen on and about 1 hr in calls. I made it about 1 day 1 hour 36min on battery. My phone was sleeping for about 23.5 hours. Is this the typical battery life or is something wrong with mine? Tonight I'm going to try juicedefender and see if that helps.

I'm using ParanoidAndroid based off of CM10. Version 2.16 of PA gave me the best battery life. Try that. Certain Roms have better battery management, but that probably depends on the kernel. PA uses stock.

I'll give ParanoidAndroid a try and see what that does. So Juicedefender ended up making it so I only lost 1% over 9 hours. Thats pretty good. Way better than I wanted. So what could be draining the power over night. Is it because my data is on all the time but shut off when using Juicedefender?
I use Trinue 2, and I use an app called Go Power Master.
In GPM you can setup options that will turn off mobile data/gps/wifi when the screen is turned off, will automatically turn them back on when the screen is back on.
Those things little things I find can make a big difference for the battery to last throughout the day.

It's as Sianspheric says, common things like gps, data, and wifi uses power. I just started using Juicedefender since my friend told me it helps. Also download battery calibration. It's a root only app. Don't let your device discharge completely. It's bad for Lithium Ion batteries. That will clear out any bad data from Samsung.

For about the past week, I have had horrible battery life and have been trying to figure out ways to make it last. What is the best battery saver app?
Also - I was out the other day, went for a run @ the park and had I<3radio on while I was running, and when I finished I went to take a picture. At that point in time I was at 56% battery (I was around 65-70% when I started). My phone locked up, and I had to reset it, once it got through the boot screen I was at 4% battery, and the phone shut off within a few minutes with nothing running. This happened a few weeks ago as well, while the phone was charging with GPS on. I turned off GPS when I got to my location, and the phone was @ 55-60% battery. Within 15 minutes the phone was dead, even after killing all of the apps that were running. Any ideas?
My phone does the same thing, and I believe it to be a hardware issue. Randomly locks up with the screen off. It also gets quite warm just above the battery and below the camera. It's ROM independent and completely random.
Your battery might be bad if this started happening recently though. If the phone is under a year old, Sprint might replace the battery for you. If not, there are plenty of replacement batteries out there that are better than the OEM one.
Time for a new battery. Don't monkey around with apps and settings or different roms, just get a fresh battery and the mystery will be over.

I think I might do that. I have had the phone since it came out. I am just kind of waiting for an upgrade in August. I am sure that by the time I look at the GS3 or Note 2 there will be something else out.

Battery saver app = DS Battery Saver, available on play store and here on xda
As for the huge drop in % thats a known issue on all Samsung kernels ics and jb, do the spin test for battery to see if its bad, but the drop means absolutely nothing, it will do the same with a brand new battery any time you reboot with ~ 50% battery:beer:

So I was on my phone, remarkably pleased that today after 16hrs and 1.5hrs screen on I still had 65% remaining (Thanks KT and CM!). Before I went to bed I wanted to check my Simpsons tapped out (a little habit of mine)
After finishing (8min 33sec) I found my battery had dropped to 44%, 21% drain in only 8 minutes. I know its a pretty big battery burner, and I was used to seeing a 5-10% drop after playing, but I have never seen 20%. Any ideas on why this happened and any way to prevent it? I don't really have a problem if nothing can be done I'll just use it with my phone plugged in, but it just seems like 20% is excessive for any app...

That must have been a fluke. Ive never seen a huge impact like that from Tapped Out and I play it daily.
Check your rendering settings in development and make sure Force 2D, MSAA, HW Overlays etc are off. If you keep noticing crazy battery drain, try a full discharge and recharge (with an hour extra to trickle charge so the battery is completely full). Last step is to remove the game and reinstall it. Luckily it is an Origin game now so you get your game back after you log in (although I always keep it backed on TiBu just in case).
I noticed higher than normal battery draw with that game, Megapolis, and Jackpot Party on the KT/CM combo in general but nothing marked like that.
I've attached some screenshots so you can see my battery usage between Tapatalk, Megapolis, and Tapped Out since I woke up just a few minutes ago - barely any impact. This is a TW ROM with the stock Samsung kernel too.
