Does anyone use a metal case? - One (M7) Accessories

How is the signal if you use a metal case? I tired one for my GS5 and I got no signal. But then that phone is all plastic. So maybe this one being metal it might not make a difference.

I had the DevilCase (bumper) if you want to look that up and there was a slight loss in signal but it never really affected everyday use. at most it maybe drained the battery a extra 0.5% an hour or so from what I could tell because of the slight loss in signal.

[Q] metal evo case

anyone tried this case? theres at least one other thats similar (looks exactly the same http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000989&products_id=30835). looked up some videos on youtube and looks like its fitting kinda loose, like theres a gap between top of case and phone.
Weak signal
I had one on a htc ppc a long time ago and the metal case kind of made my signal weak, but definetly a stong case.
I have one and it works great. The gap between the case and the phone is actually the padding that acts as a shock absorber. I would recommended a Monaco case eBay, it's the same thing check it out.
Thanks for the info people.
Another question, I keep my phone in my pocket all the time. Does the latch or hinges ever get colaught on anything? Looks like it could. That would definitely be a downer.

Makes sense. I was about to say putting metal around your phone would probably make it damage more easily...
The latch doesn't get caught on clothing. Not unless your wearing one of those christmas sweaters with the big knit lol.

Hahaha haven't had one of those since I was 6 (ninja turtles FTW!). Sweetness, looks like I found my next case then.
Thanks for all the help! XD

GoodandEVO.net did a review on that case a while ago, it was not a positive one.
Not a problem my friend.

To sum it up they didn't like how it looked so it got a bad review. Also they expected super thin mental to not bend. Can anybody confirm lower signal quality?

got the case yesterday (monaco, black). i haven't noticed any signal loss at all. phone heats up a little faster but i was kinda expecting it.
overall i really love this case. it does add some bulk to the phone but i don't mind at all. kinda feels like it beefs it up some.
Glad you decided to pull the trigger on the case. It's not as bad as these guys make it out to be, is it? Enjoy!
I pulled the trigger one of these when I saw this thread. I like the look and feel of it, but it does have some problems. The main problem I have with it is that it somehow interferes with the antennas in the phone and it absolutely kills me reception/signal strength. I don't have good reception in the building I work in......2 bars is the standard. If I leave my phone inside this case, it drops to 0-1 bars. Within a second of removing it from the case, it goes back up to 2 bars. It doesn't seem to interfere with a WiFi signal, though.
The other thing I don't like is that the latch is fairly easy to open.
With that said, the same day I got it my 2 y/o was playing one of her games the phone and she dropped it onto the concrete The case did its job. However, the impact did cause the door to swing open, but nothing happened to my phone.
I'm not sure if I want to keep it or not. With the slow data services I've been getting since the end of last year, I don't want anything that's going to slow down my phone even more.
Lol... Metal cases on cellphones... Might look cool but not the brightest idea ever, lol

Aluminium/Metal battery cover

Hey,
there has been some like these for other phones but I'm wondering if there is a metal/aluminium battery case for the note.
I don't mean a case that goes around the phone, no.. I mean that we remove the original galaxy note battery cover and place a (brushed?) metal cover in there. Would look and feel good I believe
It has been awhile since this has been discussed here, so here you go:
ebay
amazon
dealextreme
A couple of interesting parts and pieces here, after doing a google shopping search...but not so sure of the shop's reputation: papadigitals
Thanks, hadn't seen those in the forums and couldn't find by searching
Your phone signal will get degraded. Even a shell made of metal does that, unfortunately. Weaker signals mean more battery used, too.
Hopefully the "big"ness of the phone can compensate
I've ordered one a few days ago, lets see what happens what it arrives. I will write a short reply about its performance on my battery and signal
I ordered one two, about one month ago on dealextreme.
But eager to read you review!!!
Seriously?..
jerome is correct, what matters is where the antenna is, which is right underneath the battery cover..
This is a bad idea of the first kind..

Hello,
just seen:
Anymode crocodile leather cover, replacing the oem cover.
anymode.net/shop/goods/goods_view.php?goodsno=12347986&category=012
Hermès leather quality and quite expensive.
Approx. 270 US $.
I like it in matt khaki.
Would compliment the Hermès Birkin Croco Bag of my wife.

I have had this on my phone for about 2 months now. no issues with signal that I can tell.. the phone works perfectly.
there is a tiny rubber edge to the cover which does it make the phone a little larger than the stock cover. by about 2mm.
I got a few and figured that it is cheaper than a case, and keeps the phone small.
the only issue for me, which is only slight- is that the pen is a little tricky to get out. no biggie though!
I got the cover today, will post comparing battery graphs and signal strength comparison on different locations

the civet definitely effects signal, but it dips from 94dBm to 97 at home
Outside in the open changes are 70 to 76..
Change is minimal in my opinion, it's not like my phone becomes blind with no signal.
A positive side is, it chills the phone insanely well. I normally get to 55celcius when gaming so I Stop to let it cool, hasn't happened with this cover yet. It conducts heat very well.
So I am very happy with this battery cover

Is the one I got, I do notice that it is very easy to scratch because it has lines graved into it. So if you put it roughly onto a rough surface you will surely see the marks
I havent seen issues with the signal yet , but yes the device heats up to 55 degrees which never happened before,. So heating is definitely an issue ....
Btw , i havent put the back cover , i have installed this directly over the back , hope thats not an issue , any insights on that ?

I have had mine for several months. I didn't notice any performance degradation, but the back of the cover is scratched like crazy. All four corners just from setting it down and sliding a wee bit. I removed it and put the original back on. All it is, is a metal paint on a plastic cover. It's cheap really.

well. I cannot replicate what you are saying. can you please provide more info on how you measured ?
I have the same signal in the same spot using original back and the aluminum one....
They also kill bluetooth.

Hmm!
I tested it with 2 Galaxy Notes.. One Stock unrooted ICS..and One Rooted ICS.
Several Locations at home..
Tested both 3G Signal and Wifi..didnt test bluetooth...
And without any dought it was affecting both wifi and 3g network in a bad way!
Both wifi and 3g signal was affected.. did several wifi tests.. but since i have a strong router with 3 antennas it didnt affect the wifi as much as it did 3g!
Its a pitty cause i really loved this alu cover
thanks for the heads up. i'm looking for a replacement cover myself.
I did a 3 3g speed tests with the aluminium cover and my speed was almost the same once, the other 2 times it was faster 4250kbs.... go figure wifi test with aluminium 8963 kbs, with plastic 4189, but each speedtest varied and was never really the same

Try to go further from your router..
At a "regular" home distance, it dosent affect wifi much! but if you do go further from the router you will see the diffrnce.. (Not That Big) in wifi..but still less signal and speed..
But in the 3G Section (Im talking about Streanght) in DBA is Much worse.... i didnt try 3g speed for downloading and etc.. i did a speed measre with Wifi only.. and a signal measure with 3g net only..
I have a cover on my Note with plastic sides and aluminum back and it doesn't affect signal strenght. Just saying if someone was considering buying one these. A full aluminum phone cover would probably eat up the signal though.
Meh, i was planning on getting one of these

Yup. They had to stop advertising GPS capability pretty soon, then offered an additional external GPS dongle,
and - thankfully, because I bought one - reworked the design for subsequent Infinity (rear not fully metal design, plastic margin for

Metal bumber for GS3

I bought a metal bumper off ebay for my Galaxy S3, it consists of a front and a back that screw together, I really like this because it lets the phone breath while still protecting the edges from drops and being metal it's not going to wear out, another nice feature is with these tiny allen keys a thief wont be able to get into your phone quickly and remove the battery/sim/sd card so you might just get a little longer to find your phone :good:

They are nice cases, but I got rid of mine because I had issues with reception when using the case. If you have a strong signal, the case did not seem to affect the reception. However, in my house (my kitchen, specifically) I do not have a very strong signal at all. As a result, I was getting very crappy reception with the phone, especially if I was talking and walked into the kitchen. When I removed the case, the issue went away.
I only had this issue in my house. Just about everywhere else locally, the Verizon signal is pretty good, so no apparent effect of the case.
I wish I had a stronger signal in my house, as I really like the aluminum bumper case...

Nexus 5 metal bumper!

Just found this last night:
http://www.casefanatic.com/lg/nexus-5/lg-nexus-5-metal-bumper-3/
Does anyone have any experience with it? I'm mostly concerned about signal/gps degradation. However, since it's only a bumper it shouldn't mess with it should it? I'm somewhat worried about if it sticks out enough to elevate the camera, but that's a secondary concern to the signal loss. What do you guys think?

Bought it and then canceled my order during the Chinese New Year holiday lol. So I had time to think about it. I have the aluminum bumper and that also degraded the signal just slightly and also can mess with your gps. Just a heads up.
why they did just for left hand people, cause thick part on left side. How I suppose to hold it by my left hand? :silly:
I knew it would probably be a let down. Oh well. Now to find some sort of bumper only thing for my Nexus. I've got like 4 cases but I'm finding out I like it naked more than anything. A bumper should be a nice middle ground.
