Google Location cannot function without GPS ? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Running unrooted stock Sprint Note 2 ROM v4.4.2.
I cannot run Location service in Power Saving mode without GPS. If I turn the GPS off, it will shutdown the Location service completely. Is this normal?
TIA

GPS Battery drain

I have noticed that since I have updated to 2.3.3 on my phone, LEAVING GPS on, seems to drain my battery fast. If I turn it off, the battery lasts a LOT longer.. I never had this issue on 2.2 .. I also tried this with a program called BATTERYXL. I orig had it set to leave GPS on but turn off data when screen is off. STILL drained battery.. now tested it with GPS ON and DATA ON when screen is ON. DATA AND GPS OFF when screen off. battery lasted a LOT longer..
HOWEVER, am I loosing anything by having GPS off when screen off? will the sense weather update? will it grab the location from something else (phone or data? data is set to come on every 2 hours with bateryXL )
Thanks...
I had the same issue and had to turn GPS off. The weather apps and everything that is location based still work perfectly with the GPS being off. The only time that you are ever prompted to turn it back on would be if you are doing any type of navigation via Google Maps, other than that you will be good to go!

[Q] CM11 Location Service turns on GPS - Sprint SGIII

I upgraded to CM11 for my Sprint Samsung Galaxy III a few days ago and now everytime Location service is turned on, it automatically picks High Accuracy instead of battery saving and when I pick Battery saving it switches back to High accuracy and drains my battery. If I try to turn off the GPS, it turns off Location,
Anyone know why this is happening?

[Help] Z00AD GPS doesn't work until restart

When I want to turn GPS on/off I have to restart my phone for it to have full effect. When it was off and I want to turn it on, it just doesn't work (high accuracy works after about 10 minutes, but puts me about 10 km away from my position]. When it was on and I turn it off, the gps daemon is still active and uses about 10-20% cpu. Does anyone else have this problem? Or any idea how to fix it?
I'm running latest LineageOS nightly release.
Try this:
Install GPS Status from the play store
Open it
In the menu pick manage A-GPS
Hit reset in the window that pops up.
Once it's done you SHOULD be good.

GPS Stoped working, location offline

My p2 GPS isn't working since two days before it was working perfectly.
GPS /location is set to High & wifi & Bluetooth scanning is on in location settings. But still gps won't lock my position & .no satellite is found
Same problem here? Did you try to go back to stock firmware?
Yes, i flashed stock fast boot files just to check & after the fresh boot automatic time zone was turned off.
After turned both settings on GPS working quite good again.

GPS problem

GPS problem
When the screen goes off, it loses its location
I have got the same issue, it is extremely annoying - no way to use any trackers, or voice-only navigation. Have you tried a reset?
I have tried all possible battery settings - using both built in battery saver and going through hidden settings apps. I give apps "no restrictions" for battery saving but the gps switches off the moment the screen goes off.
On an older Miui phone I have no such issue (redmi note 4x with MIUI 10)
No such issue on my device....
I had to reset it up factory settings, but now it works well. Maybe the upgrade to miui 11 broke it? Now however, on 11 with GPS working fine while screen off.
Have you locked in memory which ever app you using to track via GPS. Also turn off battery optimization
