Is there a way to change the data indicator from "4G" (already changed from the normal AT&T LTE indicator) to say something like "LTE" or the Verizon or T-Mobile LTE indicators?

This thread may help if your still looking. I did notice when I tried this, it modified the appearance of my notification panel quick setting buttons as well.
I think k2ltetmo and d2ltetmo will get you the T-Mobile style.

These icon swap back and forth alot. Im on at&t and i dont believe i live in an area with enhanced backhaul what does this mean? Also i have trouble with my MMS. They take a very long time to send and sometimes dont send at all. Could this be why?
I dont know if it is related but try either GSM or WCDMA rather than both under settings - mobile
And may I ask...why are you still using MMS in times of WhattsApp?

I literally know nobody that uses android. and im running cm9 how to do that?
Sounds like Fast Dormancy is enabled on the phone, maybe your network doesn't support it, which means that your phone is taking a long time to renegotiate HSDPA connections...
How would I turn that off in cm9?

Unsure, I believe this is set by the RIL or Radio, stock ROMs likely do the same but hide the fact that it is switching by having both 3G and H icons be the 4G icon.
its something like *#9900* you can look it up online though to make sure. At least it was the way to do it when I had a Samsung
you would type that in dialer and it would bring up a menu
Or you could flash a ROM like leedroid which should have fast dormancy disabled by default since it asks if you want to enable in the AROMA installer.
Mine switches between H and 3G every once in a while. Not really frequently though.

might be your data plan or APN
use the Phone apn
go create a new apn in settings and put in this
Name: phone
APN: phone
leave the rest blank. How frequently is it changing from 3G to H? I don't think anything can really be done about it and it's natural. So long as it doesn't interfere with anything.
Mine switches but not frequently, every once in a while

That doesnt allow any connectivity whatsoever maybe its because im using cm9 you think?
Edit: I see on my account im using the 2gb for smartphone plan is that the correct one?
Edit2: Called in and they switched to the 4g one and it works good.
I did a quick search and couldn't find anything specifically relating to this (although I do recall seeing threads in the past about LTE issues and Cyanogenmod). I just wanted to find out whether this may be a Bell issue, or a Cyanogenmod issue that I'm experiencing. I have the LTE sim card in my phone, but in the notification bar all it says is "H+". I checked my speed using the Speedtest app and my download was clocked at 9576kbps (which isn't LTE speeds).
After doing some research, I know for a fact that there's a Bell LTE tower about a 3 minute drive from me, so that speed seems a little slow to me. Is there any way of finding for sure whether I'm on LTE or not? I've seen others post that I shouldn't go by the notification icon itself as it may be misleading, so what other methods can I use to check this?
Do you have the right network and APN settings?
Check in settings/more/mobile networks/network mode make sure it is set on lte/gsm/wcdma and in access point names you have bell lte checked.
If you see 4g you have lte. Also check in settings/about phone/status mobile network type if is says lte.
Network mode is set to LTE/GSM/etc. That was the first thing I made sure to check.
As for access point names, there's 2 options when I go there:
Bell
pda.bell.ca
Bell Flex
inet.bell.ca
I currently have the first option selected. I compared the settings there to what other users have and everything matches up.

I am am pretty sure you need to set up lte apn. Search google.

That's the thing. I did. There's thread here on xda that lists the settings and everything is a match. Kinda frustrating, and I can't really take it in to a bell store to get it checked out cause they'll see that I'm running a 3rd party rom and they'll tell me that they can't help me cause of that.

Hello,
I'm having an issue with the rom I have (AOKP Ktoonsez) when I turn on data I get H+ at the top. How do I get LTE? I went into that menu by putting in *#*#4636#*#* in the dial pad and putting it into GSM/LTE, but I still get H+. I'm with Virgin Mobile Canada. Here's my APN info:
Name: Bell
APN: pda.bell.ca
Proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
Port:80
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
MMS Port: 80
MCC:302
MNC: 610
Authentication Type: Not set
APN Type: Not set
Anything missing? This rom does have LTE and I went into the FAQ page, the dial pad method was the only way we could turn LTE on. Thanks.

I'm on att so I'm not entirely useful in the regard to the fact tour on virgin, but are you absolutely sure that apn set up is for lte, that's the first thing I would check.

Yea I know you can get lte working just do a search there is a thread on it and it has everything you need to get it working.

Delete all your apns. Do a new one for bell lte. Then changed preferred network to lte/gsm. Restart phone right after. You should be able to start seeing 4G now. Make sure you remember to restart phone after you change the settings.

Alright, I think I'm going to call them to get the LTE APN in case I am actually missing something. Otherwise I may need a SIM card change.

In the *#*#4636#*#* menu under phone information, try setting it to LTE only and see what happens. I keep getting H+ or less on my CM10 rom unless I do that even when I'm in an LTE area.
Make sure you have LTE/HSPA enabled in Settings>Wireless and Networks (More...)>MobileNetwork>Network Mode. Sometimes when I flash a new rom it changes. I have it HSPA only because saves battery.

When I set it to LTE only, I lose signal to my carrier does that mean anything at all? And for the options under settings I only have a choice between two, GSM/WCDMA/LTE and GSM/WCDMA preffered.

Pick the lte mode and click the lte apn and restart your phone right away. It should work right after. Btw if it says 4g,it means lte is working

Also a Virgin Mobile Canada customer and my S3 has NEVER said 4G or LTE in the signal bar.... H+ is what it displays on stock touchwiz, AOKP CM10...
I'm a Virgin Mobile Canada customer as well. I've set my preferred network type to LTE/GSM auto (PRL) by accessing the "Testing" menu (dial *#*#4636#*#*) and have selected LTE/GSM/WCDMA by going into my mobile network settings. The only two modes I can select from are LTE/GSM/WCDMA and GSM/WCDMA preferred
I've noticed the following:
-most of the time I'm on either the HSPA or HSPA+ network
-there are times at which my notification bar shows 4G (which I assume is LTE) but it definitely isn't as frequent as when my phone was unrooted and on stock
-this one is weird: occasionally I lose total mobile and data connection for about a few seconds and a "warning" icon shows up in the top left corner of the notification bar. When I expand notifications it says that the connection to the VIRGIN mobile network has been lost..or something along those lines. I'm usually able to reconnect automatically within a few seconds but this is definitely a weird one since I've noticed it only after flashing Task&Ktoonsez AOKP. Anyone encounter anything similar to this?

Hmm maybe this is just Virgin Mobile problem? Thing is the ROM I was on before, (Team Insomnia JB Touchwiz) it showed 4g when I turned on the mobile data but I was getting no where near LTE speeds. I also tried switching to LTE mode and clicking the LTE APN and reboot, but all it does is go back to WCDMA Preferred mode. I got a SIM replacement from Virgin Mobile but still no luck after this.
EDIT: I think I got it, if you recently were on a Virgin Mobile Supertab or changed from an older phone that didn't have LTE, make sure that Virgin Mobile systems know that you own a Galaxy S3. I went into my Virgin Mobile "My Account' and it showed my phones it only listed the HTC Legend I had few months ago, but not the S3 itself, and beside it saying this device runs on a HSPA+ network. I'm getting this fixed on Monday so I'll see what happens then. If somebody can do it sooner though if they have the same issue, that would be great too.
My SGH-i257M Rogers Canada is not set up to have the Mobile data ON/OFF icon available on the notification screen. When i select to edit the Quick Setting Buttons it is not in the set of choices. It was there until the phone was sent in for a repair last year; or perhaps after the KitKat 4.4.2 update?
I would like to get this back to the way it was. Any ideas?
TIA,
Mick
So I just wish to change the default Sprint Spark icon to something else that gives more detail on the sort of network the phone is connected to.
I did the feature.xml trick and I see the network type but I still also see the 3G icon from Sprint along with it.
Can someone pls help!
