Normally, it always skip that step, may be due to your particular rom. I think you should backup stock rom for safety

Argh! What was the soulution? I'm having the same problem.
I'm experiencing the same error as above,
Desire HD - Rooted, S Off.
ARHD 7.0.3 (backed up after flash)
Decided to try out a theme (two days after ARHD was installed) which I wasn't too keen and tried to recover the backup which lead to boot loops.
Flashed older versions of CWM (3.0.0.5) which shows the above error regarding MTD partition.
4ext shows: format_volume failed to unmount "/system"
Filesystem is yaffs2.img.
Currently using the dreadful stock 1.32 and can flash a new Rom if needed, I would prefer to restore the backup if possible.
Any response/help is gratefully received.

im GUESSING he flashed ruu.
have you used different recovery version from which the backup was made? if not, the backup might be corrupted, not much you can do i think.
from my experience with custom mtd part sizes from wildfire: when things get borked, it might help if you wipe everything, reflash recovery, wipe again and then try installing a rom.
another thing comes to mind, if i remember correctly, it is required by some roms to format your phone in ext4. compleatly unsure about this, search to verify. allso try superwipe script from arhd
and try ext4 recovery, i never had one problem with it

Installing the ROM first
I had the same problem... I'm not much experimented with Android stuff,
What I did is just installing the original ROM that was used in my backup first... Then I tried restoring by backup and it worked!! So was it something I was supposed to do? I thought restoring a backup included everything.
Or maybe a reboot fixed it?!

[Q] A couple of problems

So ya...
Basically I have the ROM GBTweaked on my R800i,I flashed it without knowing it was for R800x.I tried restoring a nandroid backup and found out that both my backups never created nandroid.m5d files :/ .I tried flashing back the stock ROM (the bootloader is locked)
but got this error, "ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="SECURITY_CLASS";ERR_DYNAMIC="SIN header verification failed".I was wondering if someone could help me fix my phone?I would be forever grateful. Also if someone could give me a nandroid backup I would be very happy.

Flashing back..using flash tool I assume right? If it was ft then you flashed the wrong ftf file. It's pretty common. Double and triple check it's the correct file before attempting to flash
I tried the .42 version, any idea if it's right or wrong?

Try the. 58 firmware for r800i
