So I've used AdAway since I bought my GNex, and it's always worked perfectly until now. Whenever I was on 4.1.x ROMs, AdAway would block all the ads on various apps on any network connection, whether WiFi, 3G, or Edge. Ever since upgrading to a 4.2.x ROM, it is only blocking when I'm connected to a WiFi network. On cellular data connections its like I don't even have AdAway installed. I've tried it on different 4.2.1 ROMs, and they all give the same results. I'm pretty sure that the reason its not working has to do with the Android version, but I can't find anybody else that has this problem, or at least can't find it posted anywhere. Does anybody have a solution or suggestion on how to try and fix it?
Thanks.
Solution: APN proxy causes ads to show up. Removed it and all is good!
It blocks for 3G/4G for me just fine. On 4.2.1 myself.
Try reinstalling the app? what is your ROM / Kernel set up?
Try installing SuperSU https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwyLDEsImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5zdXBlcnN1Il0.

I actually have reinstalled the app. Should've went into more detail in my first post. I've tried redownloading from the market as well as reinstalling from a titanium backup, without data. I've uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 different times now, each with a different combination of reboots in between. I'm currently running ParanoidAndroid 2.99 beta8 with stock kernel. But I've had the exact same issue with each of the below configurations:
Paranoid 2.99 beta 6, two different beta 7s, two beta 8s. I've had the stock kernel with each beta, and also tried Franco.kernel r342 (if memory serves) on beta 6, and each beta 7s. I have only used stock kernel on beta 8. I've also had the stock ROM rooted installed with stock kernel. Come to think of it, I've only used Paranoid or Stock 4.2.x ROMs. Could it have something to do with the Paranoid ROM? But what confuses me is why it blocks on WiFi just fine, but no other connections. Paranoid has SuperSU with it, but I think when I rooted the stock ROM it was just SuperUser, not SuperSU.
Thanks for your help!

I had no problems with AdAway when I used my GN with CM10.1 + Franco (gave the phone to a family member, i keep it updated every other day). You can try another ROM or try https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DMsImNvbS5iaWd0aW5jYW4uYW5kcm9pZC5hZGZyZWUiXQ.. I find adaway to be more superior though but if adaway doesnt work and adfree. just use that for the time being

Believe it or not, I tried adfree and couldn't get it to work on WiFi or cell. I'm downloading JBSourcery now. Gonna try it and see how that works. I'm glad to know its just my phone having the issue, means it can be fixed! lol

Well I just installed JBSourcery ROM and downloaded AdAway from the Play Store. It still does the same thing, no ad-blocking on cellular data. It's really starting to drive me nuts! I use the Chive app for testing it, and that's where I notice the ads the most, but it isn't blocking in any app unless on WiFi.

Did you try AdFree? https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImNvbS5iaWd0aW5jYW4uYW5kcm9pZC5hZGZyZWUiXQ..
Check settings on AdAway. Host sources, all checked. etc
Reboot.
Just downloaded chive and no ad on bottom.

I just checked the settings on AdAway and everything looked good. All hosts were selected. I uninstalled AdAway and installed AdFree, but it doesn't work either. Still get ads. If it matters, when I try to look at the TCPDump screen its always blank. Was on PA 2.99 when I had AdFree before.
Got any more suggestions? lol
Nope. Completely out of ideas. Are you completing wiping factory, dalvik and cache?

Always! When I flash a different ROM I do a Factory Reset, then Wipe Cache and Dalvik, usually twice. If I'm going from one kind of ROM to another I usually wipe /system as well, but if I'm just upgrading within a family of ROMs I only wipe Cache and Dalvik. I'm at a complete loss as to what could be causing it. I think the next thing I'm gonna try is formatting /system, data (not /data/media), cache and Dalvik, then install a 4.2.1 ROM, GApps, then AdAway and theChive and see if it works. If it does then maybe an app I have is conflicting, though I don't see how.
Thanks again.

Yep that's exactly how you're supposed to do it. It's just awkward how there are so many problems. What baseband do you use? lol
Do you perhaps have some sort of ad-blocking on your router?

Yeah I'm "somewhat" knowledgable about flashing and computers and things, so I try to do things the right way when I do them. That's part of why this bugs me so much. I could live with the ads if necessary, just not the fact that there's a problem. lol. I'm on LH1 baseband. Been on it through every 4.2.1 ROM I think. You think that could cause it?

Nope, no ad-blocking on the router. I've tried on different networks too, so I'm pretty sure it's not related to the router or wireless network. It's gotta be something on MY phone, I just can't figure out what.......

Haha. You and me both. I use theChive to test because that's what I first noticed it on, but it happens in every app. I just checked again with speed test. Websites ads also behave the same. I'm so confused at this point, I just can't see how connection could possibly matter on just MY phone. I'm gonna try my plan from the last post when I get home and see if it works any better. Leaving work now.

Yeah, well, I probably had other things I should've been doing, but you know how that goes. lol.
I did a factory reset, wiped /system, cache, and dalvik before the ROM flash. Then I flashed JBSourcery v4, gapps, then wiped cache and dalvik again. When it first booted, I installed AdAway from Play Store, applied blocking, rebooted, installed theChive and speedtest.net from Play Store, and I STILL have the same problem. The only thing I have left to format is my sdcard I think, but I don't know if that would have any effect.
Would you mind telling me what your options are set to in AdAway or post a screenshot of the settings screen? Maybe I have a problem there somehow carrying over through ROMs. I appreciate all your help so far. This thing is really bugging me. Thanks again!

Mines are all pretty much default. Downloaded app and applied it. Didn't do anything special. Only thing checked in settings is to check for updates.
Have you tried Cyanogenmod? What kernel do you normally use as well?

I haven't tried Cyanogenmod yet. Maybe I'll try flashing that next. I usually use whatever stock kernel is installed with the ROM now. In the past I've used Franco.kernel and I've never used any kernel besides those two. The only thing I have left to check is something on my sdcard causing problems. With a factory reset, format /system, cache, and dalvik, there isn't anything that doesn't get wiped is there? I'm gonna try a different baseband too. I really don't think that'll fix it but stranger things have happened. Thanks again for your help!
Hey guys,
I've got a rooted Nexus 7 (2013) with 4.4.2 and I am trying to change the runtime from Dalvik to ART. I go to the development options and change it, asks me to reboot but after it boots up, it remains with the Dalvik runtime...
Weird thing is that before I changed the runtime in my Nexus, I changed it on another non-rooted Nexus 7 with 4.4.4 and it worked as expected. ART running like a charm.
Only differences I spot so far in both devices are that mine is rooted and has a ton of apps, as for the other is almost out of the box with few user-installed apps, and ofcourse the OS's are from different versions even though I think this would not matter.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hello XDA,
I've been having a real headache lately trying to figure out why my LG G3 D851 notification lights are blinking without any missed notifications.
At first I had thought it was the G3 tweaks I installed, but nope it wasn't that. Then I removed Xposed and it ran okay for a while. But now its popping up again and not sure how to fix it or why its occurring.
Thanks in advance for the help! Any additional info just ask!
Same thing here on lollipop
In my past experience you need to start 100% fresh to remove all the problems xposed curses upon phones. Be it stock or aosp you need to wipe system, data and cache/dalvik cache before you reinstall the rom. Xposed is very cool but very buggy at the same time.

Thanks for the help! I might've figured out why it had that problem. Initially I assumed it was the xposed or g3tweaks until I really tested it. I use Titanium Backup and everytime I would try to freeze some of the LG bloatware(i.e. LG intelligent agent, LG mlt, etc.) It would have this notification issue. I've tested the phone now for more than a month without freezing any LG related app and no issues.
I'm not entirely sure of lolipop or whether or not you guys use Titanium Backup though.

I had this issue twice and it was g3 tweaks with xposed. I also had a couple other modules installed like gravity box so it could have been a conflict.
I have xposed now with gravity and titanium with all the bloatware frozen. No problems.

I also have this problem every once in a while, and I have never touched any kind of mods or ROMs.
I have never rooter nor changed firmware of my G3. Runs 100% stock and also has this issue.
I am having a problem getting the default app settings to stick. I have Chrome browser set as my default browser. Everytime I click on a link in a email or in a web page I have to select which browser I want to use. I click on Chrome and select always, then I get the popup notification that I need to go to the default settings and clear. I have done this so many times I can't count them any more. I have tried using the Default App Manager from Google play store but still have to select which browser I want to use each time. I am runing IronRom 2.3.5.
I have exactly the same problem with all apps. Driving me crazy
Maybe we will get lucky and someone will eventually reply with a fix or at least an explanation as to what is causing this.

Is there a chance you are rooted and removed or froze (Titanium Backup) apps to reduce bloat ware? I ask as I lost proper app association functionality after doing what I described. I refreshed my firmware and regained normal association functionality. Unfortunitely I never identified which specific app I needed to leave alone and never had the patience to do a trial and error test so cannot help further.

The first time I used ODIN to re-flash the stock firmware (5.0.2). That wiped all my user data, but the second time I copied the firmware tar file to the Tab S then used Flashfire to only flash the boot, system and recovery images thus preserving user data. Flashfire will automatically reinstall SuperSU to retaining root. I added the clearing of cache to the Flashfire flash process queue just to be thorough.
If you de-bloated by freezing apps with Titanium Backup then first unfreeze everything, reboot and check if app associations work again. Could save you a lot of time because re-flashing would not be required.
If you de-bloated by removing system apps they will need to be removed again but if you used Titanium Backup to freeze apps they will still be frozen and you will likely still have the issue with app association. I used to remove system apps but I switched to TiBu freeze specifically because when I upgrade firmware (e.g. BOE2 to BOE3) my de-bloat selections are retained. Just more convenient. There maybe slicker ways to get app associations working again but I never found an alternative.
Hope that helps.
This issue started just out of the blue. The fingerprint scanner is no longer quick to respond to touch if the phone has been idle for anything over 2-3 minutes. What could be the issue? I am on OOS 3.2.2, rooted.

I'm not sure but i have noticed that xposed cause lag in long run.
That's why recently I flashed RR ROM without xposed. It's working great no lag at all.
