Hey! Ive made some research and i think its a common problem on DHD, i mean i have to really push it so hard to work , im sure its hardware, i just cant give my DHD for warranty as its over, so i was looking if anyone knows how i can actually fix this thing :S
I'm not allowed to post links cuz i'm new..
but if you search google you can easily find a new volume button for your DHD.
dhd volume button
I just ordered new DHD volume button on htcrepairparts.com for 9.9USD. I will take photos when it arrives.
Any idea on how to install it? I couldnt find instructions on the web.
i have the same problem with the volume up button. It could be hardware.. since it has problems in recovery too. It's working tho.. but VERY HARD to press.
I think there is a video on YouTube to how disassemble desire hd . Plz use it and see of u can fix the buttons . Ill be waiting later

i had exactly the same problem but somehow solved. it is not purely a hardware problem. i figured out that, there is a connection between proximity sensor and vol. buttons. its something about proximity sensor but i can't really tell you, i couldn't understand the reason exactly, maybe a driver issue. if you are using custom rom, try formatting(not wiping, full format) cache-system-data, wipe dalvik cache and install a stock rom(or cwm backup). then install custom rom again.
also you can try tapping proximity sensor while your button is not working. mine started to work after tapping several times(than broke again of course). after that experiment, i thought proximity sensor is somehow blocks vol buttons.
Is it just me or anybody else has random freezes ?
I'm running AOKP milestone 4, no custom kernel. It's very stable BUT about once per week it happens : i try to wake the phone pressing the lateral button and it does not respond, no matter if i press the button again, long press, or press the volume keys.
Only way to solve is to remove the battery and put it back.
It's not a big deal, actually all my previous phones had some kind of random freezes.
But maybe anybody else had the same problem and could solve ?
Thanks !

Hi,
Okay so I've seen this issue and I've fixed it by using power button and vol down. All starts working then, usb, charging etc.
This happens once a day pretty much. Has anyone seen this or can suggest a fix? Is it ROM related or other?
Thank you for your advice / help in advance.

Hi,
Can you give more info about your issue , is your phone power on and bootup when you try to charge ,or not?
ROM? Kernel? LED`s color ? phone is hot or cold?
About a month ago my phone randomly started rebooting out of nowhere. It was in my pocket and rebooted a few times and stayed on for a while. It kept getting worse and worse to the point where it would not even boot up. I updated the phone using Kies and it worked for a few hours, but then it went back to doing the same thing. The warranty already expired and I replaced the screen on the summer, so it doesn't have the sticker behind the battery.
Today I installed the original software using Odin and it turned on and booted and seemed to work fine for around 2 minutes, but then it restarted and kept rebooting again. I have also noticed that the menu at the beggining when you press Vol + and - and the power button is not the same one as factory. Please help me out here with any possible solutions and let me know if you need more details. Thanks.
What does the recovery say when you press the volume keys and power button? Have you rooted it since you Odin'd back to stock?
Sounds similar to others who have had the power button go bad on them, search the general section and you can read up on that issue. Since you were able to replace the screen it shouldn't be a problem for you to replace the button actuator too!

Yeah I researched and tested the phone and the power button seems to be the issue. When I put the battery in the phone, it automatically turns on, so I guess it needs to be replaced. I will look into replacing it. Thanks. If you know how to do it, please help me out.
I'm having this issue too but i cleaned the power button with a straw(Capri sun)..i just made it pointy and cleaned around....been working fine for a whole day. I avoid pressing it so i use volume to wake phone up. I hope it helps, i was all crazy about my phone like 2 days ago because i didn't know what was the problem. If anything PM me.

There are numerous threads about this issue... Your best option is a repair service if you are not under warranty: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-t-mobile-power-button-repair/

I've never had to deal with them but I'm sure they're reputable. No one on here would use and recommend them if it wasn't.

Google your local area for a store that deals with repairing Samsung phones.

Quite a few members here have used that service so yes it's safe. I wasn't happy with the amount of time it took, but it's a good service otherwise.
Troubleshooting Advice
Have similar issues with sensitivity and powering off. Are there steps to take to make sure it is not failure of any other type?
Does anyone faced power button failure?
It just could come back up
so my phone keeps reboots till the world ends.
is there any way to solve this?

If its hardware based then I don't think so.
You have a 2 year warranty on your phone (all Samsung phones have this) If it is a hardware fault, that warranty is your only option as the power button is soldered directly to the main board....the whole board will need to be replaced.....
