Hello Guys,
Today I bought an second hand HTC One X. Unfortunately for me it came with an customized rom.
Details:
Android version 4.1.2
Smallband version 1.1204.103.14H
Kernel version 3.68-TripNDroi_pro_series-012 / [email protected] #4
CPU: ARMv7 Processor rev 9 (v71
CynogenMod version: 10-20121227-UNOFFICIAL-endeavoru
Build number cm_endeavoru-userbug 4.1.2 JZO54K eng. noeri.20121227.173141 test-keys.
I guess that is the required information? I see some topics with the same question and they need some fastboot numbers/details to determine what rom could be used? I am an absolute noob into flashing Android ROMS and I have no idea how I get into bootloader (Google couldn't really help me).
Can anyone help me and give me some information about how I can get back to the original ROM or at least a HTC Sense based ROM (I love HTC Sense).
Thanks in advance!
Look at the 4th Sticky in the android development forum titled:
[TUT] Getting back to stock after flashing custom roms [Noob friendly]
Best of luck.
If you love stock, try the ARHD 18.1 rom, this is pretty much stock but lighter and faster.
Do fastboot commands
Fastboot oem readcid
Fastboot getvar version-main
Entering the bootloader is done by holding the power button and the volume - button together untill you are in the bootloader...don't let go the buttons untill you are in !

Thanks, so I get into the bootloader and when I go to fastboot I cant really select anything except 'HBOOT, REBOOT, REBOOT BOOTLOADER or POWER DOWN'
Maybe some helpful info:
ENDEAVORU PVT SHIP S-ON RL

CPU-bootmode: disabled

Thanks for your help so far!

Ok that would be great! Bon apetit
It would also be fine for me to install just a customased ROM with Sense I guess. Because the main part of me never using custom ROM's was missing the HTC Sense part (I always used to do Windows Mobile rom changes cause that was easier IMO). I don't know if that would be any easier than flashing back to stock?
Yes flashing a custom rom is easy, did you look around and see what you like !?

Yea I guess I like the Venom Viper X rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087443)
1. Make sure your that your HBOOT is 1.31 or greater
2. Check if you CID is supported, visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1957376 for updates. Cheers Mike
3. Unlock your bootloader via HTCDev and install a custom recovery.
4. Download the ROM and place it on your virtual SD card.
5. Do a nandroid backup!
6. Extract boot.img from ROM zip and flash it using ‘fastboot flash boot boot.img’.
7. Use 'fastboot erase cache' to avoid boot issues.
8. Go into recovery and install the ROM.
9. Please choose fullwipe if you are asked, highly recommended if you go from one rom from another rom.
10. Reboot the device and enjoy!
Just to be sure, I can skip step 1 till 5 right? en start with step 6? Or start with 7?
This info is quite advanced and I couldn't really find a noob-proof guide to flash over another custom ROM (or am I that blind).
Thank you so much for your help!
Good choice ! And yes you can skip the updating hboot part and the custom recovery part. I understand that you already have that

I guess I messed up.... It gave me some error so it wouldn't let me install the ROM i Chose (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603)
Then I restored the backup and now it won't completely boot up...
Please help, what can I do?
You need to copy the rom.zip to the phone sdcard, open the rom.zip with winrar and copy the boot.img file to your fastboot folder on the pc. Put the phone in the bootloader and flash the boot.img
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Enter the recovery and do a factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wipe data, wipe system ...
Then install zip from sdcard and select the rom.zip

I went back and tried the Viper rom as I said I would download that first.
I've done all the steps above but when selecting the ZIP file it gives the following message:
-- Installing: /sdcard/ViperX3.2.0.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E: Can't open /sdcard/ViperX3.2.0.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I've tried it for a few times now but I don't know what to do...
What recovery do you have ? (Name and version of the recovery)
And don't remove the boot.img from the rom.zip only copy it !

does mount usb storage work on that the new recovrey
I tried to install viper x on my phone but missed out putting the ROM on my SD card, it now seems to be stuck at the HTC logo, I cant access the SD as on the PC when connected it shows a Removable Drive and a CD Drive, both of which are inacessible.
How can I get the ROM onto my phone to install it?
Have you tried mounting USB storage from recovery?. And which recovery are you using ?
Sent from a pile of cabbage with XDA Premiumiumium
When I enter recovery there are no options just the loading screen then it switches to a red triangle with an exclamation mark.
Im not sure what you mean by recovery, I didnt make a backup etc. I did download endevour recovery signed.img for my CID and version but not used it as not sure if I need it or not, completely stuck at the moment.
It sounds like you have not installed a custom recovery, the list you refer to in the viperx thread, that includes fastboot and recovery etc, is actually the bootloader. You need to flash either cwm or twrp recovery via fast boot. Or search for an all in one tool if you are not comfortable with fastboot and adb commands
Sent from a pile of cabbage with XDA Premiumiumium
Im fine with the ADB commands, can you tell me where I can get CWM recovery files? are they CID specific or anything?
I just downloaded CWM Recovery from here: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
The GSM one, is this the correct file? its a UK Voda One X VODAP001 CID.
Also my bootloader is set as unlocked at present.
I flashed that recovery and now have storage mounted and visible, can I just put the viper rom onto the deivce storage as firmware.zip and intsall it now?
Aye that's the right one, 5840. Sorry if I'm reaching Granny to stuck eggs but power off, then hold vol down and power until boot loader appears, and don't worry about the USB master fail thing. Copy the cwm to your fastboot folder and rename it recovery.img. With cable in and "fastboot USB" highlighted type in command window " fastboot flash boot boot.IMG" press enter then reboot into the recovery and follow the previous instructions to mount and copy

Excellent thanks, its installing now. Phew.... one thing it did say is I need a custom Kernel as im not S-OFF, any idea what this is?
ignore the kernel thing for now, just use the boot img from the viper zip. if you want a custom kernel you can install one later, you only need it if you wanna overclock or use some of the advanced tweaks

lmao, done the same myself
All, I have an Unlocked, S-Off, Rooted HTC One M8 w/ Verizon that I was running Cyanogenmod 12.1, their latest snapshot.
Today the screen was black w/ the notification light blinking as I had a message. I couldn't get the screen to come on. I held in power + volume up until the phone rebooted. It rebooted to the boot loader. I told it to reboot & when it did the HTC splash screen didnt have the normal warnings that I'm used to seeing; warning something about developer options maybe; I can't remember. Anyways it just keeps booting to the bootloader & when I try to boot to recovery; it just reboots back into the bootloader. I've tried to flash to the lastest version of twrp via ADB on my pc, the flash is successful; but doesn't work when i try.
I've also ran...
fastboot erase cache
as i found that suggestion online.
Nothing is working for me. Any suggestions?
Thanks

No luck. Even though I can run fastboot commands, the RUU exe package reboots the phone, then eventually fails at waiting for bootloader, even though the bootloader is ready. I get error 171 USB Connection Error, from the RUU exe on my pc.
Thoughts?

Found an SD card that would fit & am now trying option 1 of the RUU.
Fingers crossed, updating just completed successful. Two steps were bypassed. Step 8, SBL1 (8) & Step 13 TP.
No change... Dang

Am I missing something?

I guessing you have used this cp before for commands or flashing on m8.
What OS on cp?
Using USB2 port, not USB3?
HTC drivers installed?
ADB commands recognize m8?

This is the first time for me using a computer to flash my m8 or any other phone. I've always rooted, unlocked bootloader & then used TWRP.
OS on pc is Windows 7.
USB 2
HTC Drivers are installed
Im not sure is ADB commands work. I can get the Fastboot commands to work.
Nothing is listed after I run ADB Devices
I do get a device when I run fastboot devices.
The L hboot is an image, did you mean to say run it the same way as option 1?

Ok, so i ran the L hboot by renaming it & putting on an SD card, option 1. That worked fine.
Powered off.
Ran the RUU by renaming it & putting on an SD card, option 1. That worked and had the same two bypasses as before.
Rebooted & pulled out the SD card, but sadly; same results.
I think Im going to bed, its late here on the East Coast.
I'll check back in the morning. Thank you for your continuing help.

Still up, wanted to give you time to respond.
I can't get the RUU update to run from pc, so it looks like this could be a dead end for me. Thank you again for trying.
I hate to get a new phone, none of the new Verizon phones can be rooted or an unlocked bootloader.
Can't get the new Nexus phones as we purchase directly through Verizon & not Google. (this is my company phone & HAS to be purchased through Verizon)
I'll retrace some steps in the morning.

Looked back at the error you were getting trying to flash ruu with pc.
I'm not going to try to tell you to do the sdcard method because that did not work for me.
Here is a link that worked for some, even though this is not for the htc m8.
Think you may need to uninstall htc manager & clean with cc cleaner & reinstall.
Also try re downloading ruu incase it got corrupt.

Don't forget to uninstall htc sync before doing anything with ruu, it may interfere, the drivers remain behind.
What about the usb cable you are using, is it a data cable that came with m8 or spare that mainly used for charging.

Still not working.
Followed all the instructions, re-downloaded the RUU. I've uninstalled the HTC sync & drivers; ran cc cleaner, rebooted, reinstalled HTC snyc & drivers.
I've even tried this on two different Windows 7 pc's. One I left the HTC Sync on, the other I uninstalled & just left the HTC drivers behind. (as one person suggested)
Should the RUU installer app say updated to version & then it instead of a version it list odd characters that I dont even know how to type on a keyboard?
I think I've got my first true brick.

Using a different cable, I get the same problem.
I dont think its the cable, because the RUU can read the current version of firmware thats on the phone, then issues the phone to reboot. Then the RUU app just sits & says waiting for bootloader.

Fastboot RUU mode . This method assumes you have a working ADB/Fastboot directory on your PC. Download RUUish file and place in your working fastboot/adb directory. Boot your phone to fastboot mode and connect to PC. Issue the following commands.
fastboot oem rebootRUU
###while in this mode your phone will display an HTC logo on the screen
fastboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip
##while in this mode you will see an HTC logo on the screen and a green status bar across the bottom of the screen. When command output ##completes it may say reboot required to flush etc... if that's the case issue a "fastboot reboot-bootloader" command and restart option 1 again.
example
## assuming flash completes and no further flushing/reboots are requested from the cmd output you can now reboot IF you simply wish to reboot the system you can issue "fastboot reboot" which will reboot system.

I get the following when I attempt to flash using this method...
C:\adb>fastboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip
target reported max download size of 1826414592 bytes
sending 'zip' (1683272 KB)...
OKAY [ 63.976s]
writing 'zip'...

My phone also doesnt do what is described by staying at an HTC splash screen; it just boots right to the bootloader like it always does.
I've seen that remote: not allowed trying some of my own method during this whole process; not sure what that means.
Hello all,
suddenly and without any prior warning my Desire 820N rebooted and since then it is in a boot loop,
the ROM is original/Stock lollipop, I can enter HBoot, fastboot.
when choosing Recovery or Factory Reset the phone reboots immediatly.
tried erasing cache using fastboot, flash recovery.img I found online,
I even managed to successfully flash the following rom through RUU and also directly through the SD card
0PFJIMG_A51_UL_L50_DESIRE_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.4_Radio_01.01.010_U10305041_08.01.50512_release_460795
but after the flashing finishes and I reboot, as if nothing happened at all.
Could this mean that the mmc storage is corrupted, or am i facing another problem?
following is the phone details:

Thanks @vuk1963, but I don't have twrp and even the stock recovery does not work.
1. Press 2 Volume button and the power button and hold for a long time 2 debugging usb enabled? 3 to unlock the bootloader using fastboot,https://yadi.sk/d/C5ZYzOL-k4dco
android is not working, so how can I enable usb debugging?
i'm in a boot loop, the htc logo appears then after 20 seconds it reboots again.
BTW, I unlocked the bootloader before using htcdev, but even though after flashing firmware or flashing recovery.img, nothing happens
and I don't have TWRP, could you send me a link or is it included in the first link?
thanks again
I unlocked the bootloader again, successfully flashed twrp, but when entering recovery, it does not work and the phone reboots after around 10 seconds.
So for debugging is usb enabled? it is important!!! Telephone in the bootloader(fast usb)phone to connect to the computer, unzip the file on your computer(5.0.2 HTC_D820 official recovery)click the mouse on the file https://yadi.sk/d/ojb92-nOr3d5d

How are things with your phone?
---------- Post added at 12:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:09 PM ----------
the problem is solved?
I can't enable USB Debugging because I only have HBoot, Fastboot.
I installed the official recovery, but it's not working.
when I click on Recovery, it reboots, then it shows 'Entering recovery', after 10 seconds it reboots again but recovery does not work.
Thanks for your help.
What version of the software on the phone right now? 4.4.4 or 5.0.2 (it is important!!!)
lollipop, 5.0.2
stock 5.0.2 https://yadi.sk/d/Jz95CoeSr4ULo Telephone in the bootloader, fast usb, computer unzip flash-recovery stock for 5.0.2 ,click the mouse on the flash-recovery, menu select f and press enter
Ok, thank you.
I will try it later when I get back home.
Ok, flashed the recovery but it doesn't work also.
Telephone in the bootloader, fast usb, unzip the downloaded file,on your computer and run the file by clicking on the mouse, flash TWRP,from bootloader,In Recovery, from Recovery In TWRP,То TWRP advanced Wipe Mark х Dalvik Cache and Cache Swipe to Wipe. If this does not fix the problem,You will need to format and install the system on a formatted phone memory through TWRP https://yadi.sk/d/ZybWB0jpr4qtc
Flashed successfully, but the same result, no recovery.
btw, i got the dmesg log from fastboot, see the following errors:
[PG_ERROR] htc_pg_part_hdr_set(647):[1564461] part_hdr->size is too large
[PG_ERROR] check_pgfs(1440):[1564525] pg2fs add wifi error
[ERR] Get property `adsp_ver' failed with returned value -1
Phone enters TWRP recovery?
No twrp recovery, no stock recovery.
(Telephone in the bootloader, fast usb, unzip the downloaded file,on your computer and run the file by clicking on the mouse, flash TWRP,from bootloader,In Recovery, from Recovery In TWRP) You did?
yes I did, after that I press on Recovery, then it writes entering recovery, and after 10 seconds it reboots again and again and again.
Hi All,
Really struggling to find info for the bootloop issue on stock HTC one M8 loads for rooted etc
so my phone randomly restarted and then got stuck in a boot loop. i couldn't do anything i managed to get into Fastboot after waiting for the battery to die completely. got into Fastboot and factory reset. but no change.
The fix seems to be to flash RUU onto it but i cannot find any info on how to do it on a un-rooted HTC One M8.
Any suggestions/guidance?
also forgot to add if i choose Recovery from fastboot screen i just get a image of a HTC phone on the screen with a red triangle and ! inside.

RUU works fine on unrooted phones. Its an official HTC tool designed to be used on stock devices. You just connect the phone to a PC, boot into fastboot mode, and run the RUU executable on the PC, and the executable will do the rest.
This is provided you use the correct RUU for your specific device version (and not all versions have RUUs).
If you want more help on identifying the right RUU (if there is one) we'll need more info about your phone. In fastboot mode, open command prompt on computer, and do command fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number).

That is the stock recovery. If you press vol up and power, it will show you the recovery menu. But there is not much you can do with it, that will help your current condition, aside from trying a factory reset.

Just saying you have the same problem, isn't going to do much for you; or allow anyone to help you much. Please provide specific information about your device version, as I requested from the OP.

Fair enough. To further elaborate on my experience.
I have the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition (Unlocked).
-Downloaded the RUU (version 6.12.1540.4) and HTC Sync Manager from HTC.
-Put device into FASTBOOT mode
-Connected device via USB with HTC Sync Manager open (Showed device was loaded with OS-5.07.1700.11)
-Ran the RUU. Phone displayed HTC logo
-RUU attempted to execute
-ERROR [155]: UNKNOWN ERROR -- The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.
-Felt confident I had the correct RUU. Proceeded with the Recover button. No success there.
-For confirmation, I know my phone is GSM so I also tried the RUU for AT&T and T-mobile. Again, same error result.
-Device maintains HTC logo on screen.
-After unplug of USB connection, device displays
