car charger for KF?

I am looking for reliable car charger for KF. Any suggestions?

It needs to output 1.8v 1.8amps .. which is more than most car adapters will support.

So, no car charging? Even slow? I mean, you can charge with 1A, slow but can do a job?

I think you are wrong about the 1.8v, my charger says 5v @ 1.8 amps, which means you could use any usb charger rated at over 1.8 amps.

Meant to say 1.8amps not volts. Most car adapters are 1amp or less. Many car lighters (the socket) max out at 1amp. Utility plugs may go higher, but the charger plug you use itself needs to support it.

You are right about the 1amp though, anything over 1amp will cost quite a bit more than the few dollars a 1amp adapter costs . In that case it would be worth looking into seeing if the manufacturer of the Kindle Fire sells a car charger, but I would only use that for trips, there is no way I would leave my KF charging in an unattended automobile.

Your best bet would be to find a car charger with a USB port on it that can support an iPad 2. If it can charge an iPad, it can charge the Kindle. Tons of good options on Amazon.

I bought the "GTMax Black 2-Port USB Car Charger Adapter 2A" from Amazon, it has two usb slots, one with 1A and the other 2.1A. Works great on my Bionic, have yet to try it w/ the kindle though.

I'm using a 2AMP charger as wel and it charges just fine. Most chargers designed for the IPAD will work well. Just make sure it has a regular USB port on it and not the apple connector

Any USB charger with a micro connector will charge it provided the KF is using less power at the time than the charger is able to provide. It doesn't have to be rated for 1.8 amps. I've used everything from a 0.5 amp Motorola RAZR charger to a 2.0 amp charger and they've all done the job. The only difference was the time required. I can't see why it being a car charger would make any difference either. My T-Mobile 1 amp car charger worked just fine with it.

As others have said, most USB chargers will work. However, there is one exception that I ran into recently and its well documented on the forums here - if your battery gets too flat. e.g. you left it at home when you went away, it will need at least 5V @ 1.6A to actually recharge.

Battery charger that will "keep up"?

Hello guys
I have a cheap USB charger I got on eBay.
I use my phone as a dash board cam (with the screen on) and the battery decharges faster than the charger can charge it.
Will it be possible for me to find a charger that will "keep up"

it could be either the usb cable if it's not stock or damaged but it very well may be the charger, look for a little bit higher end charger (as in not the cheapest one you can find) and it should work

The specs in the item description says 500-700 mA output at 5VDC. Not only is that low output current, but most list a minimum spec, not a range. You can probably assume 500 mA output for that one, which is not enough. The battery will discharge at a higher rate than that charger can provide.
Anyway, look for one that is rated for 1 Amp (or 1000 mA) output at 5 volts. This should be sufficient. I still use my HTC 1A charger that came with my Nexus One car dock for that reason.

Samsung phones seem to have 2 charging profiles, usb gives you around 450mah and ac gives you around 650mah.
650mah still isn't enough when doing nav/bluetooth streaming, until samsung starts using a full amp for charging you will never have a charger that will keep up.

I used this Griffin-Powerjolt. Found it at walmart, and took it apart and soldered the two middle pins. But found my info here on XDA, but cant seam to find the thread. And I can play games, stream music, etc, and my charger keeps up and charges fine. But this post sums up your question.
Also I'm on AOKP JB and when I was on there ICS roms they have the charging mod so even when I had a cheap-o 500mah charger it saw it as an AC charger and charged at AC charge speed. I think also Cyanogenmod has implemented this also, but im not sure.

+1 for the Motorola charger recommended earlier. It puts out 950ma so the phone will read charging via 'AC' rather than 'USB'. Charges quick and will be able to keep up with BT and GPS navigation. Here is a direct link:

I use the 2A Amazon branded charger. You'll want to set it in fast charge, because the phone thinks it is a usb charger. You can open it and short the pins, if you want.

Actual current draw (aka...how fast your phone charges) is not determined by the charger but rather by the phone itself. The ratings on the chargers is what they are capable of, but will be dependent on the device. People would be frying devices all the time by using one device with anothers charging cable that has a totally different output if it was determined by the charger alone.

x3 on this charger. Have used it for the last couple of Android phones as well. Work fantastically with my Nexus streaming music via bluetooth to my car stereo. Never has a problem keeping up.

I'm using my N1 charger still too. Keeps up with nav, stream music, and max brightness. I don't use BT, but otherwise I always gain quite a bit of charge.

oh in another way, you could install a custom kernel and enable fast charging, works for me though.

I bought 2 of these charging only cables. They work perfect, full "AC" charge through any car charger port.

Put one in my car and my GFs car.
The problem is a "USB" charger spec doesn't allow for the higher voltage charging under most situations. Any cable that does provide the full "AC" charge is a 'non-USB compliant' charger (or something like that), thus, the cable I listed above doesn't say "USB" charger. That is a very brief explanation.

That works fine but I heard it uses your battery faster.

Looking for a full speed car charger

I'm looking for a charger that will charge my Nexus 5 at full speed. I've tried a Griffin charger as well as a Monoprice charger and both are recognized as Charging (USB) by my Nexus 5. I assume they are designed for "proper" use with an iPhone, which I know can cause those issues. I am aware of the option to short the pins on the charger, but I would really rather buy one that works properly out of the box. Does anyone have any recommendations? I searched, but everything seems to be able using a wireless charger in your car.

Those two look like they are very high profile chargers. I know I didn't specify this, but I would prefer something a little less bulky. Also, they are under 1A while the Nexus 5 charger is 1.2A. Still better than the 500mA I'm getting currently.

I use the 18W 3.6A version of this Anker Car charger. But seeing as the 24W is $9.99 while the 18W is $8.99, might as well get the higher output one (supplies one 2.4A Apple port, and one 2.4A Android port). Here in Canada the 18W is $19.99, 24W is $21.99....
They have full Android support, so it allows full speed AC charging if you have a good USB cable. They also have versions with a built in cable, but I prefer to use my own because if the built in one breaks, you're kinda screwed.
The 18W 3.6A car charger I have charges the Nexus 5 at around 1100mA (with a good USB cable). That's perfect to still charge the phone while simultaneously using navigation, streaming music, etc.

Have you tried different cables? I'm finding the quality difference between cables makes a difference in the charging rate.

I bought an att one years ago and it's the fastest charger I've ever used in my car. You can get it on amazon for about $8 shipped.

[Q] How to charge HOX in the car?

Hi there,
Need your help:
I try to charge my HOX in my car with several charges and cables. No matter how much I tried, I always get this message:
Your phone is using more current than the charger is able to deliver. Please power off your phone or close unused applications
I don't care to buy a new charger or a cable (but not a car ). How could I make it work? How do you charge your HOX in your car?

Hmm i have a standard usb connection in the car, using a western digital usb cable and a kernel that supports fast charge (lyapota #17)......no issues.

Its because the charger you are using is not providing enough amps, our one x needs 1amp to charge properly in the car, a lot of car chargers (especially cheap ones) only provide 0.5 amp

M8 - Max charging current with MHL adapter and battery life

Hey guys,
I currently own a SG4 and briefly tried the older HTC One, but returned it because it didn't meet my specific needs.
I use my phone in conjunction with an APPRADIO headunit so max charging current, battery life as well as a fully functioning MHL adapter (capable of supporting 2amps) is required.
Currently my SG4 has no problems keeping up with current draw and can even charge while in use, however the M7 I tried could barely make it half a day. The only reason I'm comtemplating replacing my Sg4 is due to a BT compatibility issue with Samung and APPRadio that causes BT drops, hence causing me to lose control over the screen via headunit.
My questions to you guys are:
Can you guys charge your M8's at 2 amps?
Can you charge at 2 amps with an mhl adapter installed?
How does the MHL adapter work for you guys?
If you can charge at 2amps, does it require a custom kernel (fast charge)?

Anyone?

Some people have used 2a chargers yes ..The BlackBerry playbook charger is 2a and works fine....as we have no official 2.0quick charge yet.....M8 is far superior to S4..'

Just to clarify, I'm not taking about QC 2.0, just standard charging at 5v 2a through a MHL adapter.

It won't charge at any higher a rate then the phone is designed for. No matter the charger.

Doesn't answer my question at all.
Phone was designed to charge at QC 2.0, which is much faster than 5v 2a.
All I'm asking is if someone is actually getting 2a charging with a mhl came connected.

Just wanted to chime in about your setup. I have a very similar one in my car right now, however, instead of an appradio, i'm using mimicsX2 and the stock radio's video input. But i'm typically running media apps, streaming, screen on, etc. Instead of an MHL connection though, i'm using a wireless miracast adapter (push2TV). So far, it's been amazing. I can still charge the phone while using all of that and while it does get a tad warm, it's not enough for it to be much of a concern. I've read that people have hooked up miracast adapters to appradios and that it does work fairly well. The only downside i've seen so far is a ~half second delay with interactions. But to directly answer your question, in my experience, charging isn't an issue.
EDIT: Forgot to note one other thing you might want to know about MHL. It seems like only stock-based ROMs work with it, and the adapters are quite limited. If you get an adapter that is MHL 1.0 it makes the phone run at 24 or 30 FPS and the UI lags like crazy. However, all of the 2.0+ adapters all seem like they are the short variety, so if you're trying to hide the adapter somewhere in the car and just run the one wire out, you may need to buy an extender. ALSO, note that the M8 uses standard MHL and NOT the proprietary 11 pin one that Samsung uses.

I think the software only allows the mate to charge at 1500ma tops as of now.

Really unsure, because the stock charger provides 1.5A of current. I don't have a 2A charger to test, sorry.
