Differences in hardware.. Htc one m8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to buy a used htc one m8 GPE. How do I tell the difference between a unlocked m8 bought from htc website and a real GPE m8? Cause anyone can just flash the image and covert. I want to make sure it is a REAL GPE htc one m8. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Is he selling it with the box? The box is the main difference, and the logo of some sense-related features are not available on the google play edition box.
Aside from that, I believe the google play edition is only in Silver color with 32GB of storage (I could be wrong). If he has done a full-conversion, the bootloader and software should be identical, so I doubt if you can tell the difference.
That's all I know. Hopefully someone else can point out some other differences. -)

Unfortunately no box. It is silver and have 32gb of storage. Does it only come in 32gb of storage in GPE?

I believe it only comes in silver and 32GB of storage. But i don't live in the US, so i can't visit the google play devices store to confirm that. I hope someone else can confirm this.

Google Wallet

Hello,
You definitively saw the new Google wallet, I was sad about the fact that is not available on our htc one x, but then I saw this thread:
http://www.modaco.com/topic/354635-region-device-root-patched-google-wallet-apk-11-r67-v12/
It's the old version but should work for HTC one x with free 10 bucks credit and this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810118
The new version for sgs3.
Is it possible to port the new version for hox and make it work outside the US, like the old version, on CM10?
Thanks

[Q] HTC One X Unlocked to India

Hello,
I am a relative newbie here and would really appreciate some help.
I live in India and I am planning to get the HTC One X NA Unlocked from USA to India via friend. I have the following few questions:
1. Is it better to get the HTC One S NA or the HTC One X NA. Reason I ask is, the international One S does not have the Krait processor.
2. In either case, if i get an unlocked phone here and use it with a general SIM, will I not be able to update it with any firmware/SW changes?
3. What happens to the warranty of an unlocked phone? I am guessing there will be limited/no warranty on the phone in India.
Thanks a lot for your help guys, please do reply!
Regards,
Anupam.
The choice of one s / one x is upto you. I would say one x as that's what I've got.
The warranty may well be void in India.
As for updates that depends on the provider. I would suggest putting a custom rom on it.

Why do you want to to this ?
Why not buy it from india ?
1. One X
2. Upon booting you'll only loose access to HTC HUB which I guess none care
3. You'll still b able to upgrade the device.
4. You'll loose the warranty.
Guess this helps

Cheaper in US. $500 around which is roughly 28 K v/s 38K in India currently.
International One S does have the Krait processor. If getting the One S get one with the S4 chip as you can also get ones with the S3 chip which is slightly slower than the S4.
Both are very good phones, if size is not an issue then get the One X. My sister has the HOS, it has better battery life, better music quality via headphones noticablely faster in day to day usage as the S4 is a great chip.
The international One X has tegra which is good for gaming. One X has the better screen, HD resolution.
You'd be happy with either phone.

So does this mean i can upgrade without a custom ROM? I am a little new to this and have never actually played around with my phone. Hence would like to know what is the best way without too many customizations.

Which one is better to use as nexus, one x or s3?

Hi,
I wanted to buy the nexus 4 but since yesterday, i know the nexus is not coming to my country (belgium). Since i need a new phone (my htc desire is running on it last breath) i wanted to review my options. The best phones available here are the s3 and the one x or one x+. I would like to make it a nexus via a custom rom. I know it is possible with all three but is one better than the other? l have heard that the exynos soc is a pain for developing for example...
And the buttons on one x are more stock them s3.
Looking forward to your answers!

I would have choosen s3 if i could buy again. But dont get me wrong. One X is a good phone. Just no s-off..

I bought Galaxy Nexus off Amazon Germany for 325 euros two months ago. I also know a colleague of mine who arrogantly ordered a nexus 4 off the internet yesterday and expects it to be delivered tomorrow.

Maybe for the following reasons.
1. OP owns a Desire
2. Asking this on any of the three device specific threads will only yield bias to the device it was posted on.
3. Ran out of ideas.
Hey at least its not another best rom thread.

Exactly! I thought about posting it on the two forums of the devices in question but i figured they would recommend their own device anyway.
And yes i have a desire now so maybe other desire owners are thinking about changing too

I would prefer..
Nexus 4
HOX+
S3
In that order. The price point + longer software support just screams value for me. Just look at the support Nexus S got.

I agree, except pay attention to the nexus 4 forums first. I think the early release has a few problems. Wait for the dust to settle about the nexus excitement, then if the reviews are still good, buy it.
I would choose one s.

[Q] Android L Dev Preview Port Feasible?

Do you guys think that a port of the nexus 5's dev preview will be feasible or even possible?
Ah yes, I too would like to know how likely it is, since at the moment the GPE M8 is all I have for development purposes. I am probably going to today to get a Nexus 5 unless its going to be possible. I want to make sure all my apps are going to be ready
i doubt it will be possible
If it's in AOSP then why wouldn't it be possible?
Even if it's not the preview could possibly be ported to our devices

That's what I'm wondering. Is the code going to be available tomorrow? If so I have no doubt we will see roms pop up. If not I guess it will depend on if our 4.4.3 based binaries can be used on Android L. Really hope so... I'm tempted to re-buy a nexus 5.
Pretty sure someone will manage it!
They are not releasing code. Just preview images for the nexus 5 & 7. I'm not sure if a port is possible, but who knows.

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed, I expected a factory image for a flagship phone from less than just 2 years ago would be something Google could easily provide, specially considering Nexus 4 still has the most standard phone screen size (4.7") and similar specs as Nexus 5 (except for resolution, CPU speed and LTE), which exactly is why a Nexus 4 is my primary testing phone. Bummer.
By October nexus 4 will be 2yrs old and past it's support cycle. Just how it be. Maybe they will surprise us

"its pretty much the same except for the 3 things that ROMS tend to be picky about...."
Android L Port for a Consumer
I'm a complete noob when it comes to developing, but I hope that a port is possible and isn't too far away, I honestly just want to try it as a consumer. Whoever can make a port of the developer preview is awesome.
I suspect that it will be possible. But I doubt it will be fully functional. But it would still be fun just to play around with it.

It may be possible when mixing GPE and Factory Image of Nexus 5. They share the same Chipset (800 and 801 are almost identical), One M8 has no special Hardware except the Dual-Cam which is not relevant for testing the System!
It is possible, we ported over Android 4.1 from Emulator to HTC HD2 back in the days!
Regards
Was wondering the same thing.
What about official One M8 GPE owners here, shouldn't that phone get priority over the Nexus 5, or at the very least, get the exact same support and releases.
The One M8 GPE is kind of like the future Silver, it's the current highest end smartphone, with official stock vanilla Android direct from Google.

They did say at Google I/O that it will be released for Nexus Devices as well as GPE devices - when the full release comes.
This is just a developer preview, hence why it is only out for the N5 & N7.
Any update on if Google will send the ' L ' developer preview to GPE devices soon ?

Why is HTC the only Manufacturer offered on Google Play

I'm just curious, we got the HTC Developers Edition and the HTC GPe.
Why does none of the other Big Manufacturer's not do this .?

Galaxy S5 had a GPE edition for a while. I think the DE and GPE variants are a niche product; and probably not a priority for a giant like Samsung.

True. I actually wasn't sure (GPE for S4, S5 or both), and Googled it before posting. There were links for S5 GPE. But looking again, they are all teases, leaks, rumors that have yet to materialize.
