Hi everyone, I have two kindle fire, I messed with both of them.
I've root them the first one has the problem with the yellow triangle logo stucked. And the other one I've tried to reset it to the factory settings and everything was cool until I hit the TWRP utility and I think I erased everything.
I've see tons of posts regarding rooting and troubleshooting related to rooting and i'm pretty sick of rooting, I think that 3 months is sufficient time, please DON'T POST anything related to rooting.
I'm here asking if anyone knows how to flash all the data ofthe kindle from the pc and been able to install the factory software, firmware (I don't know) from scratch from my pc. Anyone, please?
The first one is probably stuck in fastboot. Try giving it a go with "fastboot oem idme bootmode 4000 && fastboot reboot".
For the second one, "I think I erased everything" is as descriptive as not wanting people to post about your procedure is helpful. What exactly is going on with it? For future reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644970
You should also update both FFF and TWRP on both devices once they are working normally.
If i may suggest flashing modaco first after a good wipe everything except your sdcard I believe this will make a smoother transition if you desire to return to stock before returning to stock always do a good wioe to remove remnants of previous roms download the latest stock bin and rename it to update.zip do not place it in any folder just at the root of your sdcard flash in twrp this will also wipe out twrp and fff I really dont recommend doing this lots of people fail at doing the procedure correcty modaco is stock with only the market added try this approach first then you can retain fff and twrp for custom backups.
Ok, so, I've been investigating and what I'm really looking is to erase ABSOLUTELY everything from the kindle sdcard, system, etc, everything. And I'm looking for a method to sideload from the pc the orginal stock ROM of Kindle Fire. Any clues, directions? Any fully functional software?
I really, don't want to try the adb commands (I've tried them before), nor follow any tutorial about root troubleshooting.
I'm really sick of them and of all that mal-functioning software that you have to download(Eg. Not-responding superOneClick, kindleFireUnbrickUtility saying in one line <No device found> <Processing something> <Congrats, your kindle is good to go! (When it's not)>, Eternal loading Android Commander)
With all due respect I DON'T want any more of those, as I said, 3 months is sufficient time, I feel so frustrated.

Read from "Reverting to stock software". You can manually rename the file and then copy it into the KF instead of using ADB for it, just make sure the extension is .zip and not .zip.bin (Windows hides extensions per default settings).

To restore back to full factory
1. Download Kindle Fire Software Update Version 6.3.1
2. Rename the file to update.zip
3. Get in to TWRP and mount USB drive
4. Copy update.zip to Kindle Fire
5. Unmount USB drive
6. Do factory reset, then wipe system cache, and dalvik cache
7. Flash the update.zip
8. Let it bootloop about 3 times or so...
If you want FFF and TWRP then flash Stock 6.3.1 Basic from TWRP. This has no root or gapps.

When trying to execute the adb shell commands all I get is:
- exec 'system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
I've also tried, fastboot update | flash | boot | flash:raw
This is with one kindle, with the other one, I can't even get the PC to recognized it as a USB
Is there any tool, that really erases everything and take the stock ROM to be installed again? Software, script?

Ahh, that's a bother. It's a pretty annoying error. Could be something messed with your TWRP (I'm assuming you tried the commands from there).
There isn't one, but there's really no need for it... you just rename the ROM to update.zip, wipe cache, dalvik-cache and factory reset, and install update.zip. If you just want to flash stock because you like it better for whatever reason, you could also just look at the MoDaCo custom ROM instead, as it is stock based.
As for the other KF... you can't get it recognized, from where? The ROM? TWRP? Fastboot?

Both of the kindles, are damaged. I can't access them. I just can access one by USB.
For future reference:
This user's issues have been partially dealt with.
The first KF will require a factory cable to be fixed.
The second KF was soft bricked (there were a few corrupt partitions) after a bad flash attempt of the stock ROM. Luckily, FFF was still installed, but the Windows fastboot drivers weren't. Reinstalled FFF+TWRP from Firekit, and then fixed the partitions, wiped and flashed the stock ROM.

Ok, So, I have the factory cable. How can I test its Ok?
I have another question, the kindle is pratically empty no system, no sdcard memory, probably corrupted ¿How do I use the factory cable, to format the Kindle and install the Stock ROM again?
With the KF off and unplugged, type "fastboot getvar product" on a shell (KFU/tools).
Then plug in the KF using the factory cable. If you get anything listed or returned, it should be working fine. Otherwise, if you wait a few seconds and still nothing, you'll have to check the drivers to make sure the correct fastboot ones are installed.
To check the partitions, you can just "fastboot boot twrp.img" to load a TWRP into memory, and then "adb shell parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 p" to print all partitions' information.

Well, I'm at my job now. So I will try this at home, but the shell is not working since system/sh (shell) it's not in the Kindle. I was trying to boot it yesterday with "fastboot boot twrp.img" and nothing. I also tried: "fastboot getvar product" and nothing but I only used the console. Anyway, let's see what happens...
Quick question, I've read that the factory cable puts the Kindle straight into bootmode, ¿So the color of the power button, has something to do with it? ¿I mean how do I know the kindle has entered factory mode? ¿The orange light is an indicator? (With a standard USB Cable I only get the green light with the power button, with the factory cable I first get green light, then orange light)
I've also read that if I can see the Kindle fire logo, the bootloader is Ok. Hence my Kindle is OK, but I can't enter fastboot mode. ¿Can anyone confirm this?
It'll get stuck in the bootloader screen, and fastboot commands should work as well, provided the drivers are properly installed and working.

OK, I've finally made myself a working factory cable. And in the device manger I can see the kindle listed as "Android phone" and in that root it says "Android ADB Interface". Look like drivers are not working. Where can I download them?
Those are the proper drivers for fastboot you should be able to use kfu to send twrp and fff to the device if that doesn't work you will need to fastboot flash them
All I get is < waiting for device>. Looks like the drivers are not installed.
Simply hold the power button down while connected when it says waiting then power it back on and it should send also try unplug replug when it says waiting

Hello All,
I was trying to install
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766829
I did:
Factory Reset / Wipe data
Flash Jandycane ROM
Flash GApps
Reboot and Enjoy
But forgot to do:
Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache
Now when I turn on the kindle it goes to Kindle Fire, then to the boot screen for Jelly Bean. But it just freezes and reboots, I was using CWR to flash the Rom.
Whoops wrong button you got a free thx do all the wipes this time and restore your backup.. Use this to replace cwmr with twrp http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500935 your not bricked just the effects of a dirty flash at least let's hope so just don't wipe your sdcard!!!
Edit: just a side note when changing the system on your device the system should be formatted as well

Okay, I am a noob. How would I be able to install FFF?
When I try to install it with KFU it says:
"failed to copy 'files\fbmode' to '/data/local/fbmode': Permission denied"
adb push files\fbmode /data/local/fbmode
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/fbmode
adb shell /data/local/fbmode

Yup time to buy a factory cable if you can't get it into fastboot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392693&highlight=info if that's not an option then http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430038 sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and usually it requires that you remove the back cover and perform the USB short trick no fun there

Okay I bought the Factory Cable, what do I do when it gets here? Thanks
If you get lucky you might be able to take the easy approach and use kfu to send fff bootloader to your kindle if not you may wanna brush up on how to fastboot flash fff.bin .
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader <exact file path-exact name .bin>
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
Last command won't do much with a fastboot or factory cable so just send the first one if you use fff1.4a simply just power it off and select recovery from the boot menu by pressing the power button.
Okay, I bought a Factory cable. I have it in FastBoot mode, but Windows wont let me connect to it. It keeps yelling about messed up drivers.
Trying to go to 100% back to stock for resale. I downloaded the 6.3.1 bin file and renamed to update.zip and installed with TWRP. Everything seemed to go fine but after rebooting I get a constant android.process.acore force close and it just keeps rebooting every 15 seconds. It wont stay up long enough to get through the menus to do a factory reset and KFU shows its ONLINE with a 4000 boot status but every time I try to install permanent root or install TWRP or any other recovery it says failed to copy permission denied...
Not sure what to do here. Every time I try to do anything with KFU it tells me the "directory data/local.fbmode: not found". I also have the problem that I have 2 more Kindle Fires I need to restore to stock but I don't really dare try anything after this for fear the same thing might happen. Any friendly advice out there?
Help?

Is that a typo or is that how you're entering the command? Also, did you make sure to push fbmode to /data/local before trying to execute?
That's using Kindle Fire Utility. I'm not entering any commands myself, just menu selections. So is that in relation to the" permission denied" error I'm getting first? Is that not allowing it to push the fbmode file? Why would I get a permission denied all the sudden? It has always worked fine on all 3 of our Fires.

No. What I'm saying is, in your previous message, the string of text that you posted: "directory data/local.fbmode: not found" is incorrect...Did you copy and paste that exactly as is or did you type it? The answer could mean a completely different solution.
Sorry, that's a typo on my part. I'll copy and paste exactly what i am seeing below.

You're actually very lucky because you are able to connect to the kindle using adb, which when I had this problem was completely out of the question. I would try to send the commands manually using command prompt. You may not be able to do that unless you're in fastboot mode though which can be done by (I don't have a windows PC with me at the moment to check this but I believe that is) option 1 in KFU for bootmodes and then option 2 for fastboot. You're going to need to download KindleADB which I just so happen to have available on my mediafire account: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?1fb30q3wqf95b3i
I would also recommend downloading this TWRP.img which is TWRP 2.1.1 rather than the most recent 2.2.0 which has seemed to cause some issues recently during flashing.: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?f3sr33214229pr2 and place that in your KindleADB folder after you have downloaded and extracted it. and this is the file for fff v.1.4a which is the current version as far as I know. http://www.mediafire.com/?el5lxqvoasa8uer also place that file into your KindleADB folder and rename it to fff.bin (not fff.bin.bin).
For convenience, place the KindleADB folder on the root of your C: Drive (not in any folders or anything)
To flash TWRP use these commands one line at a time:
Code:
cd /
cd KindleADB
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
To flash fff you should already be in the KindleADB directory so you can just enter these commands:
Code:
fastboot flash bootloader fff.bin
fastboot reboot
Please understand though that even though I have a lot of experience with android and Kindle Fire and I am fairly confident that this should get you in the right direction I would really appreciate if someone else could confirm that this would work before you try it. (I'm actually more worried about getting you stuck in fastboot than anything else). If this doesn't work you're probably going to need to get a factory cable
After you have TWRP and FFF reflashed to your device, you want to place the update.zip on your SD if it isn't still there and make sure you do a factory reset and wipe EVERYTHING (DATA, CACHE, SYSTEM, DALVIK) before you flash it, that is how you wound up in this situation to begin with. With your other devices which already have twrp and fff installed, that is all you will have to do.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for. BUT right before you posted this I was finally able to get through the menu and initiate a factory reset that was able to finish and reboot itself before it rebooted unexpectedly again. Every time I tried it before I would get a reboot before it was finished with the factory reset.
Anyways, its back up and running fine now. Connected to my wifi and downloading some apps now. I do have a question though, I did a factory reset and wiped dalvic/cache before installing the update.zip and I wiped dalvic/cache after the install before rebooting and I had this problem. I did not wipe SYSTEM because the guide I followed for back to stock didn't say to wipe system and also because many months ago I was switching ROMs and I wiped everything including stystem (like I do on my Galaxy Nexus) before the install and it wouldn't boot past the FIRE logo. Luckily at that time I still had TWRP installed and was able to easily fix it. But you are saying that I SHOULD wipe system on the other 2 Kindle Fires before I install the update.zip? Just want to make sure I don't have to go through this 2 more times today...
Thanks again for the helps guy. I am extremely thankful.

All you need to do is run the factory reset from TWRP... I know people suggest you wipe the cache and dalvik cache as well, but if you pay attention to the output from doing a factory reset, you'll see it's all inclusive. A factory reset will reformat /data and /cache. Wiping the cache reformats /cache. Wiping the dalvik cache erases /data/dalvik-cache and /cache/dalvik-cache. If redundancy matters to you, it won't hurt to do it all, but you absolutely must perform a factory reset.
I'm not calling you a liar, but despite your claims, I suspect you missed the factory reset part and the /data partition wasn't wiped clean. This is backed up by the fact that the factory reset from the stock system software fixed things for you. The two are pretty much the same, but the stock software will also wipe the /sdcard clean.
As for wiping the system, you don't need to do that before returning to stock. Essentially all ROM/stock zips include a line like this in their updater-script...
format("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/platform/mmci-omap-hs.1/by-name/system");
The above is from the 6.3.1 update zip archive. That takes care of making sure the system is clear of any files before anything else gets written to it. Again... it's not going to hurt if you take that extra step, but it's unnecessary.
That concludes my lecture on everything you never cared to know about factory reset and wiping the system.
Hi!
I think my /data partition is corrupt. Anytime I flash a new ROM, a handlful of apps I've previously installed are preloaded when then ROM first boots up. I've wiped my dalvik cache, superwiped multiple times, and did a factory reset multiple times, but no matter what ROM i install (JB, CM7, MIUI, Original Sense [Liberation]), those apps are still there, and causes forces closes.
So I went into CWM, and tried to manually format the /data partition and I get the "Error formatting /data" For that matter, this same error happens when I try to format /cache.
I've trired multile ROMs, multiple kernels. I've triend Amon Ra, (I couldn't install TWRP because of a status 7 error). I've deleted the /data folder through adb/fastboot (and it reappears afterwards).Like I said, I've done factory resets, tried formatting each partition (both with the partitions mounted and unmounted), superwipe, fixed permissions..I'm at a complete loss on what to do next. I'm willing to erase everything entirely from the phone and start from scratch if I have to, but I have no access to do anything. Did I brick my phone? I had previously used the EXT4 mod, but I've ran the zips to revert to normal already.

First off, i am unaware of a script that reverts the ext4 mods, where did you get it from? First i would try an ruu, if that dosent fix it, i would try fastboot flashing the misc partition, and then do the froyo ruu and reroot. Are you s-off? What radio and hboot version?

Thanks for the quick reply! I guess I should clarify regarding ext4. I used the "no_data_limit_dalvik_moved" mod to move the unused datadata partition for my /data/dalvik-cache folder. Seeing as how the ext4 modifies the /data AND /cache partitions, and those are the only two that are giving me trouble, I'm thinking that might be the cause of my troubles.
Haven't tried an ruu yet so that'll be my next step. But what do you mean by flashing the "misc" partition? I'm at work so I'll have to try that when I get home. Might have to look up how to flash the ruu too. It's been a while. lol
Am I s-off? Yes.

Edit: So I tried flashing both RUUs (PB31IMG version) Gingerbread AND froyo found here. With both instances, the phone would freeze on the boot image. (Where is says DROID, then those little red dots circle the middle camera twice). It reset and continues to bootloop over and over.

Edit: So I tried flashing both RUUs (PB31IMG version) Gingerbread AND froyo found here. With both instances, the phone would freeze on the boot image. (Where is says DROID, then those little red dots circle the middle camera twice). It reset and continues to bootloop over and over.

Ok do you have adb and fastboot setup on a pc, you will need it to flash the misc partition? It sounds like your partition tables may have gotten messed up. The misc partition is where this info is stored. If or when you have adb fastboot and their drivers installed, i will tell you how to flash misc. Also in the meantime, try flashing this ruu just for kicks http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/PB31IMG.zip.

Thanks! I have adb/fastboot on my home pc, yea. So you can tell me what to do, then I'll get home and try it, and then post results. I'll try that ruu as well and let you know. I tried following some direction online usin parted, but I couldn't make heads or tails of which partition was which.

After you run that ruu i posted, your hboot version should be updated to 1.07. You will then need to go to http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader, and follow the steps to unlock your bootloader. Skip the first couple parts where it has you set up fastboot and skip the bootloader update part (ruu) and start where it has you get a code from your phone (Unlock token). Finish the rest, of the unlock steps and you will see at the top of hboot it now says unlocked.
Once unlocked download this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Guide_Root_New_Hboot/mtd0.img, and place it on your pc in the same folder as the fastboot.exe file. Then boot the phone to hboot, and connect it to the pc, and select fastboot from the hboot menu, so that it says fastboot plug in red at the top. Open a cmd prompt on your pc to where fastboot.exe is, and type the folowing:
Code:
fastboot devices
It should show a string of numbers. If it says no devices found, something is wrong with the connection between the phone and pc, or the adb drivers are not setup right on the pc.
If the connections fine and it found your device then type :
Code:
fastboot flash misc mtd0.img
Now download this ruu http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/3.26.605.1/PB31IMG.zip, and flash it thru hboot. Once it compleets reboot, and hopefully it boots up like it should.
If it does boot and all is well, then reroot by flashing cwm http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip thru hboot, and then flash superuser http://dinc.does-it.net/Superuser/SuperUser_3.1.1.zip, thru recovery. From there you can flash a rom of your choosing.

Curiously, I've only gotten as far as "adb devices" Although I can perform "fastboot reboot" and "fastboot devices" I try "adb devices" and the list is blank. I've used the drivers included in the android sdk. I've also used the drivers from htc sync. I don't know why I can't find my device in adb though. To be clear, my phone says "HBOOT USB PLUG" while I'm trying this.
thank you so much by the way for all your help. And you too tiny. I feel like I'm standing on the shoulders of giants here!
Also, is there some irc channel or something with a bit less idle time between forum posts?

Oops, i ment to put for you to type fastboot devices not adb devices in those instructions, that was just a mistake on my part. I dont think you can even access adb from hboot. As long as fastboot devices works your good to go. Also you will want to select fastboot from the bootloader menu after connecting the phone. So it should say fastboot plug in red not usb plug in blue when entering the commands.
I do not know of an irc channel, and i like to keep the conversation here so that the instructions and common issues and fixes can be seen and learned from by others.

Oh well in that case I get an entirely different issue. "Fastboot devices" works but when I try the flash command you suggested:
Code:

OKAY [ 0.119s]
writing 'misc'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.129s
Man, talk about frustrating.

Ok download this http://dinc.does-it.net/Guide_Root_New_Hboot/recovery.img and place it on your pc where fastboot.exe is and open the cmd prompt and type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
And then reboot the phone to the bootloader again and go to recovery and flash this http://dinc.does-it.net/Superuser/SuperUser_3.1.1.zip. Just for kicks see if you can mount data or cache from the mounts and storage menu. If you can your issue is probably fixed, if not try this. Download and unzip these files http://dinc.does-it.net/Guide_Root_New_Hboot/flash_mtd.zip and place both of them in the same folder on your pc as adb.exe. Then while in recovery with the phone connected open a cmd promt to where adb is and type the following hitting enter after each line:
Code:
adb push flash_image /system/
adb push mtd0.img /sdcard/
adb shell (you should get a prompt with a # sign)
cd /system
chmod 0755 /systeml/flash_image
cd /system
./flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd0.img
exit
adb reboot recovery
In recovery go to mounts and storage and mount usb storrage and place this ruu http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/3.26.605.1/PB31IMG.zip on the sdcard. Then in your cmd prompt type:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Once in hboot, select bootloader from the menu amd wait a few secs for it to find the ruu and pronpt you to flash it.

So I was able to complete all your steps without getting any errors. After flashing superuser, I still couldn't format /data or /cache (mounting was never an issue - or at least I wasn't given any errors about it before) However however after flashing the stock ROM, I am still getting the bootloop. I can't check the /data and /cache partition since its no longer running CWM though, but this is the same scenario I was in previously. I'm sure I'm giving you a challange here. Is there a way to manually re-partition everything manually, instead of just formatting?
So like I said, I ran the steps provided above, and still got the bootloop. So I flashed CWM and same as before, I am unable to format the /data and /cache partitions.:/

Im not sure. If there is a program or a way to manually fix the partitions, i am unaware and it is probably over my head.
Flashing the misc partition should have fixed any errors with the partition table. The fact that it didnt fix it leads me to believe that the partitions are fubar.
One thing bugs me though, you said earlier that you never had an issue mounting the partitions, just formating them. So can you mount data in recovery, and then view its contents or pull and push with adb?

Parted. It already exists in recovery and can be run in adb in recovery. Try that. I can't give directions but be careful. I think I tried to help someone before with this but can't recall the thread. It'd b a good starting point.

Well... I'm sketchy on the exact terms here, but In CWM, I can mount the drives without getting any errors, but whenI try to format I get errors. I haven't actually "done" anything with those partition besides that.
However. I ran through ALL the steps you had me to. Flash the stock ROM w/ recovery, unlocked bootloader from HTC, pushed all the filies you had me through adb. After all that, I flashed CWM, then I flashed CM7, and then I booted up my device. As if my /data partition was not touched, all my apps were still there (titanium backup, my google accounts were still setup, app data and settings were untouched). So on a whim, I ran titanium backup, and uninstalled every single user app (since the android native uninstaller force closes). I ran it successfully, rebooted, and every other app was still there.
So it can READ the /data partition, but I have no abilities to MODIFY that partition. Through any recovery or formatting.

I'm willing to try anything because at this point nother else works, but I don't know where to start. And even if I find some documentation about other devices' partition table setup, I'm assuming the Incredible is different. Way I see it, I can't mess it up any more than it already is.
I'm hoping you guys have some sort of answer, but I'm looking around elsewhere, and I really appreciate everything you guys have contributed to this thread, and the community. Thanks!!!!!
Hi guys,
I have the same issue (with a galaxy s2 though), anything related to the partition /data is causing me troubles since I first tried to wipe it when I wanted to install CM9.1. (and I had stock ICS 4.0.4 at the time...)
Do you think it is the mmc bug ?
I can enter DL mode but when I try to flash stock rom, it just remains at the animated boot logo for hours...
Tried also to flash rom (with CODE, MODEM, CSC) and Odin stays stuck when starting DATA...
Any luck on your side ?

I don't think the mmc bug has anything to do with the Droid Incredible or even affects it. I thought the mmc bug led to a fully bricked phone.
This isn't really the thread for this but have you tried the full Odin Factory reset for your device which includes the /data partition? I think the method that uses a PIT file is the most thorough but most risky. I recommend posting any questions in your device's thread but I've had a few samsungs and am somewhat familiar with that process.

Yes, I'm able to use the fastboot but it didn't seem to work bacause I'm on cwm and I tryed to flash twrp but It didn't work. Also I'm not able to flash stock because it fails at system writing. No adb, I have only 15-30 seconds befere the FC and the restart
EDIT: Maybe it's a permission error (only R/O) how fix it?

Reboot the phone into safe mode by holding power until the reboot menu appears, and then holding your finger on the beboot button until the reboot into safe mode dialogue appears.
When you are in safe mode, see if you are able to navigate around without the phone auto-restarting.
If so, see if you are able to copy the rom and GAPPS to the sdcard/download directory and try to flash again?
Not sure if this will work, but at least you can see if the hardware is failing in safe mode

Safe mode works only if I presso volume down button because everything I do seems to don't change anything after it reboot = like not saving thing. And It reboots also in safe mode (bu i have like 1-2 minutes...unless i try to delete something or download because them cause a reboot...) (sorry for my english). Every whipes and flash doesn't work...no factory reset, no toolkit reset, no odin reset..they all failed or just don't change anything (I tryed odin download and I pass but after it rebooted like every-time before)

Fastboot(bootloader) is recovery independent, recovery doesn't even need to be there. I'm pretty sure from what you've said that you've got some corrupted partition(s). I went through the same thing, couldn't flash anything with adb. This is what you gotta do after you've tried to adb pull as much data from your phone as you want to backup. Most people don't know about this for some reason, it's very easy and reliable.
->Bootloader(fastboot mode) --- hold down VOL_UP + VOL_DOWN + POWER until your phone vibrates. There's post information at the bottom and the start, poweroff, boot -recovery, -bootloader options to scroll through.
->Leave your phone in fastboot mode and connect it to your PC/remote terminal. You can look at it once we execute some fastboot commands. A blue bar appears at the bottom of the screen once you send it a fastboot command/signal.
->Open up a command prompt as administrator (su shell with *nix/mac) in the directory where your fastboot(.exe) binary is. Should be the same as where adb binary is -- Don't trust adb executable downloads that don't come with fastboot. Check for connectivity, a serial should print just like with adb after entering:
Code:
fastboot devices
-----NEXT STEPS WILL WIPE && FORMAT YOUR PHONE-----
->We are going to do a fastboot erasure. This is a complete wipe/format. It reconfigures block size, cylinders, etc (default unless specified) and can format all the specified "mmc" image blocks in /dev/block. The most likely place you're gonna see data corruption is in /data and /cache because those are always mounted Writable and pretty much all data writes occur their unless you're flashing a new rom, kernel, modding /system s***, etc. Then you will temporarily be writing to some other partition blocks. So let's do a userdata and cache fastboot format. This will completely erase /data and /cache (including sdcard, it won't take a second glance). I've never heard of this failing btw. It's the gold standard of debugging reliability, and unfortunately Odin is something to definitely avoid. Bury that one away in your suicidal desperation toolbox.
Code:
fastboot -w
Reflash your bootloader, unlock it, flash recovery TWRP, and flash a kernel boot.img that's super stable like FAUX Kern or Fancy. <---- Do all that in fastboot! ---- Check the Galaxy Nexus wiki page for these commands. I'd search "fastboot commands" in xda, there's some cool s*** fastboot can do.
Then you can boot recovery, adb push all sd stuff back over. Flash a new rom with adb sideload. Make sure to download trickster and either set Dynamic Fsync = OFF or set Fsync = ON to avoid data corruption system gangbangs. :good:

Is this a pretty surefire way to tell if emmc is good or not?

Are you able to adb push, adb sideload, fastboot flash anything over at this point? If you can you get into a recovery and use adb check for any files in data, system, cache that aren't deleted. Then run
Code:
adb shell
/sbin/busybox mount -w -o remount /system /system
/sbin/busybox mount -w -o remount /data /data
/sbin/busybox mount -w -o remount /cache /cache
find / -exec /sbin/busybox chattr -i '{}'\;
. This will make sure you don't have any immutable files; it makes all files mutable so rm -rf works and so installations can replace and delete them.
