Hey guys I'm going to be receiving a used but relatively untouched m8, and would like to check to make sure I'm not forgetting anything.
First of all I remember reading that the first thing I should do before anything else is redeem the 50gb's for Google drive. I know next comes firewater for s-off. Then remove red text from bootloader with new fw, install new Rom (possibly install the hk mod) and then mobile transfer my data from my m7 to m8. Am I forgetting anything important? Any suggestions on roms? I'm currently using viperone on the m7 so I'm assuming that will be my first choice but I'm always up for suggestions. Thanks guys I just want to make sure I'm prepared before I have it in front of me. Thanks in advance!

Hi there
Im asking if somebody can tell me how to get back to stock. I've rooted my phone using unrevoked and have clockwork installed, I've been playing around with custom ROMs and Ive had fun but I want to go back to stock.
Id like to go back to a completely stock environment on 2.2, its an SLCD screen and I have a goldcard ready.
Thanks for any help

Hi,
may I ask you why you decided to go back to stock? Unhappy with modded roms or simply bored with them? Was it worth it? I am considering playing a little too, but I can't say that I'm not happy the way it is!
Thanks & ciao
Luca
I had alot of fun, and the ROMs that the devs here have worked on are utterly fantastic without question. especially LeeDroid and Pays Rom. Both very good, but really it's A2SD that I can't be dealing with. Other than that Id like to be able to update the GApps. I guess the more things change you want them back to normal

Thanks however I don't really see much that answers my question, I want to go back to stock completely, no clockwork and no root.
Can I do this by plugging in my Goldcard and running an official RUU on my PC?
Yes, and the link is in there as I said.
Thanks for you reply toyface!
However, what do you mean by GApps? Google Apps?
I'm sure I'll root my phone, but 1st I want to have the way back safe in some folders on my pc. I know it should not be too difficult to find the stock rom (plus my phone is unbranded, so no need for goldcard or anything), but, so far, I haven't been able to understand which one is the right one for my phone among the many that one can find on this website.
I guess I need to post this question too!
Thanks again TF
Luca
You're right the link is in there, sorry, it's been a long day, great FAQ btw thank you very much!
Yeah, the google apps as in GMail and the rest of the family. I really like the custom ROMs that the devs here have cooked up, I feel the best is LeeDroid, but if you were going for your first go around ROM wise I'd wait a little bit, there working on getting the Desire HD ROM ported properly, and when that happens, the ROMs will be even better!
Thanks for the advice TF!
I'll pretend I understood exactly what you mean by porting the Desire HD ROM!
However, one other thing that keeps me from rooting now is that I may want to upgrade to the HD and so willl need to get back to stock in order to trade in my phone to the dealer.
Furthermore, I hope we'll see Gingerbread soon and that may be the time to root and flash a cooked rom with android 3 since, as usual, HTC will get there much later than google release it.
One last question, if you can spare some more time: One of the feature I'm after, as stupid as this may sound, is waking up the phone using the trackball. Is it true that this a feature available right after rooting even without flashing any rom. It sound strange to me but I read it somewhere here and nobody denied it, so I guess it could be true.
Ciao TF and good night
Luca
Hey everyone. I want to clarify before I dig in with the reason for this help thread. I am familiar with rooting from a former phone of mine (HTC One V) and I had fun with it. My thing now is, I have an HTC One M8 with Sprint and I'm wary of rooting a contract phone so I want to do things a certain way. Still with me? Great!
What I want to achieve is as follows:
Root and s-off my M8.
Install Android Revolution HD.
Install the Harmon-Karmon software mod.
What I need to know is if I am using the right tools, the right Rom, and kernel. Also I want to be able to easily revert back to stock in case I have to send my phone in for one reason or another and I'm not sure if the recovery would have anything to do with that process.
For what I am trying to achieve what's the best way to go about it? I'm on smartpay I can't afford to.brick.this phone with a voided warranty!

Have a read in the General section of this forum, best advice one can give.. read, read then read some more. That way you know the ins and outs, the pros and cons and most importantly the issues that will/do/may arise. Good luck
Next weekend, I am going to get an HTC One M8 from T-Mobile. I would really like to change it to a GPE but I need to get a phone through T-Mobile so they will pay off my ETF from Verizon.
I would have liked to ask this question directly in the development thread, but I'm not allowed to so I will just include a link.
I have found a couple videos to help me with this online and it seems pretty simple. I've been running a rooted GNex with Shiny Custom Rom. Although I started using the Wugfresh toolkit, I've since learned fairly basic ways of using ADB. I say all this so you know I'm not really a green beginner. My question is this:
[RUU] M8 Google Edition Conversion. 4.4.4 - RUU Zip Non-Rooted & Pre-Rooted
If I use this thread and the directions here, along with a few videos, will this work on a T-Mobile version. I'm going to be new at this GSM thing and want to make sure that this RUU file will work. Thanks!
Hi and welcome to xda!
This guide you linked in your post will work on your T-Mobile device, as long as you S-Off it as a first step. To do this I would personally use SunShine. Even though it costs 25$, it's the best you could do, as it unlocks the bootloader without any data loss and without HTC knowing (as they would if you're going to use HTCDev to accomplish it). In addition you don't need to be rooted, as SunShine temproots to get the job done. Thus you could flash a custom recovery right after S-Off, backup your full stock ROM (just in case you got to go bak to stock Sense for warranty purposes) and head to the guide behind your link.
I wouldn't use any videos, as there is realy everything mentioned in the guide mentioned, that you need to convert. As long as you follow it step by step you'll also come to learn the most important things of what you do. This will make live easier if you got to go back. And if something goes wrong during the conversion process, you would be able to give a much more precise information about where and what. I'm just writing it, as many questions here seem to start with a "I followed a video guide and something went wrong", which realy doesn't help anybody to understand where the problem first occured, not to mentioned that we can't help anybody who starts a post in this way, without further questioning what he did and in which order. And as you're telling you're already familiar with adb/fastboot the job should be quiet easy for you to accomplish .
Thanks for the response. I appreciate it. I know my username has switched but I was originally having trouble with it.
So I'm curious about the sunshine thing. I pay $25 and then run the app. The app will unlock the bootloader and give me s-off which will enable me to convert to a gpe htc one m8?

Yes that's right. It will accomplish both, bootloader unlock, as well as S-Off. After this you could goon and start the conversion by following the guide I linked in my last response.

So I've been running GPE 4.4.4 ROM for close or over 5 months, and tried flashing the new sinless ROM, only to discover I seem to not be able to without updating firmware (?)
Anyways, I'll just keep this short. I'm running TWRP v2.7.0.2, S-ON T-mobile HTC one m8 and just want something new. Not super picky, suggestions welcome, but mostly need to know how to get caught up!
Thanks in advance, let me know if I forgot to include any info.

My advice would be to get S-OFF using firewater method. You can search it on youtube in less than 1 min. Once you get S-OFF I recommend changing your phoneID to superCID. Also you should flash the newest version of TWRP to not run into any trouble. Once you gain S-OFF I recommend flashing the latest sense firmware http://renovate-themes.de/index.php?s=firmwarewhich seem to be much more stable+performance oriented.
Right now at this moment we do not have an official lollipop release. There should be a GPE 5.0 coming soon to the m8/m7. You should definitely try out CM roms and AICP roms if you like tinkering around with your phone. CM/AICP should be out with android 5.0 very soon also.
@watchmuu
Now you can try like everyone else for days trying to get "firewater" to work or bite down and spend $25 on "Sunshine"

Okay guys, I just have a couple of quick (I hope) questions in regards to rooting an HTC One M7 on Verizon Wireless.
I've done a lot of research and I am genuinely confused about everything and really just need a few questions answered. I've done my research and done my googling but I still need some help.
I haven't rooted a phone in probably well over 2-3 years. The last phone I rooted was a HTC Evo on Sprint which was a breeze. I've had my HTC One for a little over a year now I believe. I'm getting kind of bored of it and I saw that CyanogenMod has come a long way since I last used it. Through my research I have found that the Verizon HTC One M7 is kind of difficult and complicated to root and I apparently need to S-OFF as well, which I have no experience with. My phone has been kept up-to-date (I know that's a bad thing in this case) and I'm running Android 4.4.3, software number 5.28.605.2, baseband version 1.13.41.0702. I'm not sure what out of that information is relevant but there you have it.
What I'm wanting to do is unlock/root/whatever my phone, install CWM recovery, and CM11. Now from the research I have done it appears that if I purchase SunShine S-Off (which looks like my only option) it will s-off, root, and unlock everything that is necessary to install the custom recovery and ROM.
So my questions are this:
I'm terrified of freezing/boot-loops because this is the first phone I'd be rooting without the ability of popping the battery out for a hard restart. Is it safe to modify this phone? Are there usually any issues?
Will SunShine do everything that I need to go from a stock Verizon HTC One to being able to flash CWM and CM11?
Are there any good tutorials on doing this with the latest updated Verizon HTC One M7? A lot of the tutorials I find seem to be outdated.
If the answer to the second question is yes, then all I need to do is purchase SunShine, follow install instructions for CWM, and follow install instructions for CM11, correct?
Thanks for your time and putting up with my stupid questions.
