[Q] "OK Google" on Lockscreen - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to get this feature to work on the LG G3. I had it working on my GS5, Nexus 5 and Moto X. I've gone into the settings in Google Now, checked all the check-marks and did the voice training but for the life of me it will not respond if the screen is locked.

That only works from the lockscreen while the phone is plugged into a charging device. It's a limitation implemented by Google.
I just tried it with my own G3, while plugged in, and it worked just fine.

That's really bizarre and downright stupid. I used it all the time in the car on my Samsung phones.

Consensus on why they did it that way is that it was to prevent battery life from getting eaten up. The Moto X has a dedicated chip for it's own "always listening" service to help prevent the battery from draining rapidly with the service being enabled, so it's in a unique situation in this particular matter.

It will work as long add the screen is on. I.E. the phone can be locked but the screen needs to be on, unless its being used via Bluetooth as others have mentioned.

Ive got it... But noticed a few things...

I got my GN at the London Launch yesterday. I was 3rd in the queue but the guy messed up the system so a few people got one before me
Ive noticed a couple of things.
Once the battery has reached 100% on charger it starts to go down again... Now im not sure if this is because the battery is still new or not but its very odd behaviour.
Ive tried leaving it on charge for a while and once it went up to 100% it started to go down till it reached 97%
I did (By Accident) fail to charge the battery fully the first time so im worried this may have caused the issue
2nd Issue that ive noticed is when using face unlock there is a few seconds delay from when the lockscreen comes up and when the camera actually switches on. Im sure that in all the videos everywhere that it's almost instant.
Anyone else notice these things or is mine playing up?
The battery thing is on purpose I have an EVO 3d and a vivid and the go down to 95 and back to 100...

The battery thing is intentional. It is actually recommended not to leave charged phone on charger. Once it is fully charged, it 'stops charging' for a short while for that reason.

It depends what you mean by instant, but I wouldn't say its as long as a few seconds, maybe 1/2 a second for the camera to display then another 1/2 to 1 second to unlock from there.

It is very likely that they did (at least more recent phones) and you didn't know about it. The 'charged' icon could have easily stayed there until phone is unplugged.
Guys if you have it already could compare Sound quality with iphone or galaxy s phones with wolfson DAC's. How does the music player sound( i come from galaxy s2 with yamaha chip). I want buy this if the music player sounds good.

Bluetooth sucking too much power

I am running the 681 rooted.
Yesterday I noticed that Bluetooth is sucking WAY too much power. I used the phone normally, had about 50-60% power left when I went to bed, forgot to plug it in, went down to 30% during sleep. When I looked at the consumption chart BT was accountable for 30% of power usage, screen only 14%.
This is very weird. I use BT seldomly for handsfree vehicle calls. But it is on all the time, as I use it to fire up apps through Tasker whenever it detects my cars handsfree. This was never a problem or power hog on my HTC.
Anyone know whats going on there?

Well, as others have the problem too it is obv. not something unique to my configuration.
I just upgraded to .757 and will keep an eye on it. Hope the problem is eliminated in the new versoin.

Hi guys,
I've had the same issue I believe there is a bug in the KitKat update which causes bluetooth not to switch off even after you disconnect as you can see from your battery information your phone has been awake I haven't been to sleep please follow this link for a partial solution,

Thanks for the info, just as I had suspected. My wife's z1c don't have this issue, the only thing different between our phones is that I'm pairing with My Ford Sync and hers is Nissan.
I'm so regret in buying this phone, especially that I've traded in my beloved HTC Butterfly for this piece of cripple phone, even my other cheap chinese phone is much better and stable than Sony and only costs half the price of z1c.

Just do a further test, looks like Throw could be causing the problem. Notice that whenever I switch on bluetooth Throw will pop up running and asking to connect to Sync, wtf my car is not even started or power up outside my house?!!!
Any one know how to disable Throw completely?

Nope, it makes no difference that Throw is still running. Come to think about it, Throw may not be the problem as it is also running at my wife's z1c and her bluetooth doesn't drain so much battery. I think the problem is z1c's Bluetooth doesn't goes well with My Ford Sync... so it's not only Toyota's TG. Switching Bluetooth off and then on does help.

Notice also on and off NFC consume some battery, like 3~4%, and I don't even use or have any NFC device. I can't believe after 2 up updates and the phone still has bug.... It's really a bad ideal to buy this phone, especially for a user like me who switched from a premium phone (HTC Butterfly) to this cripple phone and paid for a premium price.

Wireless Charging Experence - Not Good

I'm on stock Rom & have the LG wireless charging Dock & using the plug/cable that came with the phone & I have to say it's the most annoying wireless charging experience I've ever had.
The G3 constantly lights up the screen while charging, either to tell me it's a slow charge & i need to use the LG cable & plug or it's telling every 2 to 3 % it's charged up.
It gets to 92% and it's lighting up & making all kinds of sounds every god damn % it charges.
What's going on with the G3?
Anyone else getting this problem & how to fix?
I got the same setup but don't have any problems with it at all.
That's strange than. I wonder why my set up is causing so much trouble?
Same setup here and I got those annoying pop ups too, I've simply disabled those notifications in TweaksBox and the device charges perfectly all the same. You may find the option to disable without being rooted but I have no idea how.
Edit: where did you purchase your dock from?
The problem is likely to be your placement on the charger, the G3 seems very very picky about where it sits on QI chargers.
If you have it placed in a spot that is on the boarder between a good placement and a bad it will keep switching between slow charging and regular charging and will make various bleeps (and the screen turning on) every time it switches.
If you get the placement correct the screen will only come on and it will only make a noise when you first start charging and when the battery reaches 100%.
If you keep it on the charger for a long time, like all day it will start to discharge once it reaches 100% then will beep etc when it starts to charge back to 100% again.

This is my first LG so not 100% confident about rooting it yet. But unsure about returning it to stock should I need to.
Fair enough, (my first LG too, lol, they make a great washing machine but I was a mobile sceptic) however it is a very simple process, take your time and do some reading there's really a myriad of possibilities being rooted thanks to awesome ppl here. Anyway just wanted to let you know there is a way stop those notifications and for me charging is almost as fast as USB, also positioning didnt seem to matter with the notification pop ups so thats a bit weird but of no concern.

Possibly, however, the official literature states "Use LG G3 transformer" so it should be okay and besides I get very quick charge times despite the notifications and now lack there of.

Hi i can see your using freestyle libre for the s9 also.
Ok facing some issues whereas as my battery power level goes down, its harder to scan the sensor. I'm on stock rom and kernal.
Makes it really inappropriate at times when i cant scan my sugar level as battery is low. Dod you face this? Is so What kernal/rom did you use if you managed to correct the issue

Hello, I have a samsung s9 + and I have the same problem as you. The NFC does not work below 70% battery
The same thing happens to me, I'm from Argentina, I have a stock rom, and it's more or less the 73% of the battery that the NFC stops working, do you know something if Samsung said something about it?
Tks.
i tried something else now. When you have your phone on charge, nfc works without problem (Under 70%)
when you pull the cable off, stops working.
Manufacturing date is http://prntscr.com/m0z97n
Hi People,
I have the same problem with NFC with lower battery levels and Freestyle Libre. I haven't upgraded to Android 9 yet but I am considering. Maybe there it'll be better. However NFC for payment works even with 1% battery level, no problems there. So there is something more sinister at work here.
Keeping my fingers crossed for a solution
Cheers!

Hi, having same issue here. Samsung replaed first S9+ ad now i'm having issues with my second S9+. Problem gets worse. Comes a time when it will not work at all no matter what its battery level. Running Android 9. Looks like a hardware problem as my LG G4 works fine (always have) and my Motorola 5s+ works like a charm. Its a Samsung problem. Anyone have a workaround? I have a facebook group for diabetics and am telling other libre users not to buy Samsung products.
Evening all anyone get nfc working? I'm on One Ui S9 not rooted and trying to read & write some NFC Tags but not getting any luck tried a mates S7 edge and that seems to work fine. Any ideas

Android Auto Charging Slowly

This one's huge for me and might warrant a return. My 3 XL when I plug into my Fiesta and Android Auto comes on switches from Charging to Charging Slowly, and I maintain or lose charge over the course of my trip. My 2 XL and first-gen could gain charge no problem. Wasn't Rapid, but was plenty fast.
Anyone else seeing this? This is a huge problem for me. I rely on my car to top off my phone during drives and if this can't happen anymore it kills AA for me.
Edit: There's a thread on Google's own Android Auto forums regarding this issue (apparently for people who actually have USB-C in their vehicles, the problem is ironically worse), and best yet, it has an actual Google engineer interacting and collecting data. Please report your experience here with full details, make/model of car, phone, OS and Play Services versions, etc: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-auto/1NmG3ojHX_k;context-place=mydiscussions
Also, user bigdave79 helpfully reported here that if you plug in your phone, let Android Auto open, and without unplugging go into USB Preferences and toggle from USB Controlled by "This Device" to "Connected Device" it will switch itself right back, but charging speed will return to expectations. While still not a fix, this helps further suggest this is truly a software bug and not a hardware or software feature/decision.

If I'm not mistaken it probably depends on your car. My 2018 Civic can't fast charge because Android Auto run through one specific USB spot. If I used a fast charge car adapter it would but then lose AA
I'm well aware. To reiterate, BOTH previous Pixels had NO trouble with my car. This is specific to the 3 XL.
I'm not having this issue in my car. Using the same USB C car charger I used on my 2XL.

I recently purchased a quick charge charger for my car. It worked great with a Note 9, S8+, and a Razer phone. My Pixel 3 XL however, charges slowly. It is kind of annoying.
I think you're all missing the Android Auto part of this. Not a car charger. The USB port built into the car to allow it to connect to Android Auto.
glad i am not the only one who is having this issue.... it charged my s8+ fast but it shows slow charging with pixel 3 xl =\
Well, this is annoying. Same thing on my 3 XL, "Slowing Charging".
Plugged the 2 XL back in- charging normally. Ford Explorer.
Let's hope it is some stupid $hit related to this-
https://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-fast-charging-android-pie-fix/
The time frame and Oct release seem to match the build date in the 3 XL I have, so maybe the build of PIE is not synced to the OTA release and the next OTA will fix it? Wishful thinking I suppose..
Google support was worse than useless on this, asking questions in circles and misunderstanding me. That said, thanks to someone on Reddit and my own thinking, I tried enabling USB Debugging. After a reboot of the phone it resolved the issue. AA starts up faster, as well.

So the problem actually returned, but was resolved again with another reboot. This is very odd. Combined with the severe memory leaks, I have to reboot this phone more than I'm used to.

So all you did was enable USB Debugging through the developer options and your pixel 3 now charges at a similar speed as the Pixel 2 when connected in the car using Android Auto?
I was so hopeful and tried it out this morning but no luck at all. I even rebooted the phone 3 times and still receiving the "Slowly charging" dialog and the phone gained 2% in an hour.

Correct. Could be a 3 versus 3 XL thing, I don't know. But yes, enabled that function, restarted, and it immediately stayed on Charging. It later returns to the bad behavior, so I basically have to restart my phone every time I enter the car.
I'm seeing the same thing. I have had developer options enabled since first day and have never seen it show rapid charging. Even with the original charger I am seeing charging slow. Since the Pixel 3 is on Sept build it is most likely the same issue as the pixel. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update.
I too am experiencing issues with AA and a Pixel 3 XL.
1) 2014 Cadillac CTS V-Sport Premium with Cue. The phone connects and AA works just fine; however the phone shows "charging slowly".
2) 2000 Dodge Dakota R/T with a Pioneer AVH-2300NEX; latest firmware version 8.35. The phone will not establish a connection to the head unit via USB, and battery indicator flashes between charging and not charging.
I still have my Pixel 2 XL, which performs flawlessly in the CTS. Same cable, same port. The P2 XL reports "charging", and gains a charge when AA is in use.
In the Dakota, the P2 XL also performs flawlessly since the 8.35 firmware update. Again, same cable, same port. Just like the in the CTS, the P2 XL reports "charging" and gains a charge while AA is in use.
It is to be noted that developer mode is enabled on both phones, and USB debugging is "on" (both phones). I have tried the whole restart thing; to no avail.
I've initiated a return process. Since Google's unable to offer any indication of this problem being known to them or a solution being planned, I can't go forward like this. I like this phone quite a bit, but its experience isn't so dramatically better from my 2 XL as to justify putting up with a problem with no expected solution. I'll keep my eye on updates and see if any indicate this issue has been seen and fixed and maybe consider a repurchase then. Otherwise I'll hold out for the 4.

Mine went to FedEx today. Sadly, I love the phone but already got an RA for it prior to the return window expiring. I am not confident that Google will fix the issue in a timely manner; or even acknowledge there is one. For $1000, I am not willing to go backwards in functionality. If I see proof the issue is resolved, then like you; I may decide to repurchase. If not, the P2 XL still has another year of warranty and 2 years of support.

Exactly that. I spent a lot of money on a phone to replace a very good phone. There should be no regressions for that price.
Oh well, my 2 XL was fantastic, truly. I'll probably need a few days to readjust to the screen and a month or two to wait for most of the new features to filter back to it, and I'll be fine until next year.
