Okay, so I'm having a bit of an identity crisis with my sprint lgls970 trying to flash the stock rom from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2443185
My device is returning this error:
Check Phone Model = LG-E960
Check Dll Model = LS970
Model Name is different!
Check phone or DLL!
FAIL
The only thing that I could possible imagine is that when I flashed TWRP 2.6.3.0 to flash a custom kit-kat ROM somehow it tricked the bootloader into thinking it was the E960. Has anyone else encountered this issue? And could flashing an earlier version of TWRP possibly correct this? I have rooted, flashed, and went back to stock on a few different LG devices, but this one has me stumped.

The page you linked returns a 404 for me, looks like you linked a cached page that is only there for you.
Try this if you are not already.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536636
If you keep getting the error that you're using an E960, then try to flash a different recovery before flashing the rom. I don't believe a ROM would have changed your device, but an incorrect recover would.
EDIT: I see what you did, you copied and pasted the post in the thread instead of choosing edit then copying that and posting it in the right forum. No worries, just edit your posting here and change the link so others no what you're talking about. Still, if you have a reason for using that specific one let me know. Otherwise, try the one I linked. It can be flashed from recovery instead of download mode.

Let me try to find the orignal page. It was the one using the LG flash tool with stock image included. I have downloaded the files from the page you suggested but I want to use that as a last resort. I'm trying to stock/unroot the device since it's time for trade in. I believe That our assumptions about the recovery are correct and I'm going to try that first, but I'm going to change the link beforehand. I appreciate your help and I will let you know about the results.
LGFlashtool will show that and not work if you unlocked the bootloader.
You've got 2 options. LGNPST or flash the Rom dopy25 mentioned.

I'm going to have to try the LGNPST method I believe.I did flash CWM recovery v6.0.3.8 and I'm still getting the error.

You shouldn't need that ROM I mentioned as a last resort. If you flash it and lock the boot loader it should work. Then you can unroot and it will be stock. Then do factory reset and it would be good to go. The LGNPST should have a full bin file that if you flash will return you to stock as well. Look in the unbricking thread that mentions soft brick. Here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230106
Somewhere it says you can download the full bin instead of the teeny bin. Just read EVERYTHING.

So after getting frustrated and using LGNPST to flash a stock ZVC rom I was even more frustraded after soft-bricking the device. I decided to charge up my tablet and use that until I could figure out a solution. I noticed after plugging in the tablet it displayed a red X over the battery icon. So I figured that it might be the cord I was using. I switched out cords and flashed the stock ZVC with no issues. Problem solved, thanks to you all that have helped me through this thread.
Interesting. Even with the FlashTool showing that you're phone was an E960, just switching the cord solved the FAIL at 4 secs?
LGNPST worked great for me and it got me back to bone stock. However, I am now experiencing another issue upon flashing a ROM where it would get stuck on the stock recovery screen (black with blue letters on top). I can use the volume button to highlight the options, but the power button doesn't respond. So then I have to just power down the phone, put it into Download mode again and use LGNPST to flash it back to stock.
For those experiencing this issue here is the link to my post addressing this issue.

It sounds like you have stock recovery. Use the capacitive"menu" button to select.
You'll need to reroot/unlock to install other roms

Where to begin?
I upgraded from Paranoid Android (Android 4.3.1 variant) to KITKAT 4.4 which I believe has turned my phone into an LG E960? Nexus 4.
After some data issues with 4.4 I decided to go back to PA and things seemed OK for a day or two outside of com.android.phone crashes once in a while. Then a random power cycle (initiated by me) brought me to a softbrick? beyond repair (at least every flash/fix seems to do little)
I have been able to boot into both DLmode and Recovery (TWRP 2.6) since this problem began but nothing allows me past either of those or any of the following : LG Logo (reached after my 8th or 9th teenybin attempt, and first attempt at flashing stock teeny. OR the Google logo with tiny unlock symbol at bottom.
I became frustrated and wiped everything (formatted data) through TWRP and have failed miserably with every attempt to sideload or lgnpst both .zips and .bins respectively. Now any attempt to sideload results in a "failed" attempt as it there is no folder "TWRP/Backups/......."
I have tried LGFLASHTOOL and followed directions to a T. but the issue here seems to be this. LGFLASHTOOL recognizes my phone as the LG E960 and states the LG LS970.dll isn't compatible with my phone.
Is there anybody out there that can make sense of my ranting explanations here?
The two MAIN problems troubling me seem to be this:
1) The phone is being recognized as the E960 via FLASHTOOL thus any LS970 flash or file creates a not compatible error.
2)Though TWRP seems functional, it is maybe only partially so. It wants to access a folder within itself that isn't there TWRP/Backups/....(specific random backup number)
ANY help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. I have been at this for a day and a half.
p.s. a very odd side note. One sideload rom I flashed was Carbon, which failed to boot initially. I DID manage to have teenybin unlock, flash and reboot the phone directly into Carbon (with no data or gapps) and was able to usb over a couple .zips before getting an error "cannot be copied because device has been disconnected or has stopped responding" I thought I was in the clear and booted back into recovery via the carbon rom to flash gapps only to revert right back to my initial problem(s).......
WTF! I am lost. I've had this phone for almost a year and have used LGNPST more than a couple times with great success. I've flashed, unbricked and restored this phone and many others multiple times over the years (i.e. not a noob) Just effing dumbfounded.
edit: I have searched and read through countless threads in an attempt to find a fix for my problem with no luck. I've searched constantly to find a fix with no luck.
That was a lot of info. So lets see if you've tried these things yet.
Are you sure you don't still have the att TWRP to flash KK?
Flash TWRP 2.5.0.0
And try to flash a Stock ROM.
to get sideload to work: there is an option to make a log. it will make the partition writable after a format. had a similar issue when i first go the phone.
otherwise use an img. not a teeny bin and go back to stock zvb.

I noticed in bootloader it references the device as mako, with a bootloader version of MAKOZ10f
I'll try TWRP v2.5.00 now. I just downloaded a Stock ZVC build.

in TWRP (still 2.6) I went into Advanced and ran 'Copy Log to SD' a button/feature I have always saw before, and never used.
I'm going to try to install TWRP 2.5 back onto the device first per previous post(er) and then I'll run this again before I try to install a stock rom.
Thanks for the idea.
I've used fastboot to flash twrp 2.5 and proceeded to 'Copy log to SD' before attempting to sideload stock rom.
In CMD this error is now returned when using commnd "adb sideload update.zip" :
failed to write data 'protocol fault <no status>
LGNPST method still giving same results. Gets to 85% error (I know this is normal) but when rebooting, boots to nothingness/black screen after quick glimpse of Google logo....

If you can get into fastboot, you can install a different TWRP. fastboot erase recovery then fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Or in TWRP flash a different TWRP, octhrope has them all here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47679587&postcount=123

Make sure to use USB 2.0. Not USB 3.0
After LGNPST, press and hold the power button+vol up for 20sec+. Then press power+vol up again and maybe TWRP?

A similar thing happened when flashing a stock ZVB rom via lgnpst. This time it hit 85% and rebooted past Googe and hung briefly on the LG logo. It started to boot and ran the "optimizing apps" function. It loaded the OS and a couple seconds later rebooted itself back into the hanging LG logo bit.
In using sideload, I had COMPLETELY forgot to "erase recovery" before flashing a new one. Maybe that was causing the issue? Flashing a recovery over a recovery. Time to try sideload again.....
When it gets back to lg logo and goes no further then turn it off and get back in recovery and do a factory reset

WOOOOOOO that did it for me! I'm now on stock 4.1.2 LMAO. I used LGNPST to get a stock (rooted) ZVB build onto it. I let it reboot and sit on the LG logo for 10 minutes to err on the side of caution, Then powered down and back into recovery to do a factory reset.
It can make calls and connect to wifi. But no data. Probably just need to flash the zvb radio but again I'm almost scared to turn off/reboot/update anything at this point. Just happy to see the phone back after 2 plus days all jacked up.
Thanks for the help everyone!

I managed to do a complete back-up in TWRP of the fully functional 4.1.2 I got up and running. My data (wifi + lte) came back after I eventually flashed the correct radio.
I'm going to maybe stay stock for a couple days. I honestly can't remember the last time I used stock Android on my phone....

Hello, I've spent about the past 5 days trying to figure this out. So, how this started was, a while back when I first got the phone, I wanted 4.4, so I rooted my phone, and tried to flashify a recovery like CWM and TWRP. Both of these failed. I tried many times, and no matter what I tried, flashing always failed. But guess what, my stock recovery was erased in the process. I forgot about it until today, where I found the OTA update to 4.4 was released, and attempted to do it. To my dismay, I forgot I had no recovery mode, and instantly got the "boot certification verify" error screen. Now All I can access is download mode, to my knowledge. So I've been trying to fix this, either by installing stock recovery, or another way to install a custom. All to no avail. When I use the lg flash tool for the stock recovery, it fails at "BIN CRC Check". Every.... Single.... Time. Despite downloading multiple replacement files. I would be perfectly content with installing a customer recovery, but the ways I see require the phone to be on, and use the built in recovery mode. At this point, my phone is bricked, and I am looking for any and all ways to either A) boot back up normally without installing a recovery and fix it later, or B) install a recovery, even if it's the hard way.
Update:
I followed this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
It looked like it was going to work. I am using a Xubuntu virtual machine. I was copying the files over, and every time it finished copying a file, it unmounted and remounted my phone (I don't know if that was suppose to happen, just worth mentioning if it wasn't suppose to). I was super excited to do it. Hard rebooted my phone. And now it's just a blank screen. I have no logo, no error, and no download mode like I had before. Seriously need some help here.
Update#2:
I have the flash tool correctly working. Awesome! But..... I still have no download mode here.... So I can't use the tool....
Lastly, I am aware of the title.... i don't know how that happened. I intended to type "need", but somehow that happened. I do not know how to edit it.
Can you enter recovery?

Damn, not even fastboot? Feel sorry for you.
I'll be the first to admit I royally screwed myself here through lack of reading. I came here from the evo 4g lte after upgrading and decided it was time to root this phone. I had the zvc update. Here was my exact process:
1. used ioroot- successful
2. used flashify to flash twrp- unsuccessful (secure boot error)
3. flashed zv7-aboot.img through adb- phone gives up the ghost
So now my phone is stuck at the LG logo and the led that usually lights up when it is booting stays dark. I can get my phone into download mode but no further. Any and all help is welcome.
dont panic!
I think You have no other options except for flashing the stock firmware. Flashing the stock will unbrick your device.

Hey Guys,
First post and i already got a problem because i messed up very much
I used to have Cyanogenmod 11 on my Optimus G, but i got several crashes and i wasnt completely fine with it so i wanted to try something new. So i updated my bootloader from CWM to TWRP and wanted to flash Artmod 5.2 Rom. I was a bit fast with my wiping, so i accidentally wiped the whole phone, so that everything was gone: Cyanogenmod, new Artmod rom i wanted to flash just everything.
I read a bit and thought it shouldnt be a problem then to just sideload the new rom, which i tried to do. I used adb sideload to put Artmod on the phone, everything was fine, flashing went through but i got stuck at the LG boot logo at the start of the phone. I waited like 30 minutes and nothing did change, so i thought something was not right.
I then just wanted to go back to cyanogenmod, tried to flash that through the adb sideload procedure but i got an error which said "error executing updater binary in zip 'tmp/sideload.zip'".
I was kinda thinking something really messed up so i tried to revert the phone to stock rom with the correct KDZ file i searched with the tool linked in the FAQ, everything downloaded but when i tried to flash the KDZ it gave me an error like this:
"12:03:59 Launching SW update
12:03:59 Unpacking KDZ
12:05:10 KDZ file extracted
12:05:11 Extract file error
12:05:13
===FINISH===="
So i searched the forums again and noticed that it should be a problem with the KDZ updater tool because the KDZ file was too big to get flashed properly. I wanted to try the LG Flash Tool 2014 then which is provided here in the forums and should work, it extracted the KDZ file, then opened the LG Mobile Support Tool to flash the file on the phone but there i start to get errors again, it either said that i am already on the correct up to date software version or that i need to disconnect the USB cable, remove the battery, insert it again, restart and try again.
I used several tools for that, i even tried it with an offline method that i found in a german forum, but every method got me the same errors, so i couldn't even go back to stock anymore.
I once tried to flash Cyanogenmod then again when i realized that the error message also told me "This Rom is for a "E975", this is a "GEE"" which i did not completely understand because it should be the total same? I edited the Updater-Script in the Zip file of the rom then and removed the part where it checks for that (1st line actually), then the rom did flash properly, phone started to boot (Cyanogenmod Boot Logo was shown) but when the boot was over i got the message:
"Type Password to Decrypt Storage" with a keyboard to enter the password. (I did never set up any password for that).
Now i am completely confused what i can do the recover my phone, either to stock or just to another rom, every method i tried did not work and i dont have any other ideas.
I can go into Fastboot, Recovery and Downloadmode, but when i tried to wipe again in Recovery it says that it cant mount my data mount point (probably because the storage is encrypted).
Somebody told me to do a hard reset with the keys "Volume down and power" which i tired several times, but everything i get is just the Google boot logo and then happens nothing or i get the Google logo, then the LG logo but after that i get stuck again, I cant seem to go into the "Hard Reset" menu which i should get into with that keys.
Anybody can help me what I could try or got a solution for this? I would be very thankful. I don't wanna loose my phone

Flash Tool 2014 works great for me every time, so try it again. Make sure you disconnect from the Internet before running it (yank out your LAN cable, or disable your WiFi), so it doesn't attempt to connect to LG servers. And don't forget to put your KDZ file in the same directory with the tool. It should go through just fine. That's by far the easiest method to revert back to stock, to get you to a clean starting point.

Umm... No, they are not the same. E975 is "geehrc", and there is no such OEM ID as "gee". There are many different OG variants. For the cross-reference between the models and OEM IDs, you can look here. Generally, you should stick to the ROMs that are designed for your model, unless you know exactly what you are doing, when trying to flash a ROM from a different platform.

Don't worry, that's pretty standard scenario for the first post...

Well i tried Flash Tool 2014 again and seem to get the same error that wants me to disconnects as it stops at the same position like it always did, also doesn't matter if I am connected to the internet or not, everytime it doesn't run through. This time I couldn't even read the stuff that was written in the LG Mobile Support tool because it only shows "????".
Heres a Screenshot:
The settings i made should be the right ones I think, the phone does get recognized by the computer when i plug it in because of the sound that windows makes.
I clearly dont't know what I can try anymore...
And according to the roms: well i only used roms for the E975, which is exactly my phone model, thats why i was wondering about that error message i got
Artmod is for E975, the CM11 was for E975, i even tried Mokee rom but i always got same error messages...
Nobody got another idea? I really am confused because if i can enter downloadmode and recovery there should be a way to get my phone back working.
Anybody knows where i can get maybe some older KDZ Files to go to 4.1.2 Stock rom and try to flash these?
problem

I don't know why you are seeing "???", but here is a couple of things regarding the settings, based on your screenshot:
1. Type should be CDMA (yours is 3GQCT).
2. PhoneMode should be DIAG (yours is CS_EMERGENCY).
3. I would suggest using CSE Flash for a full format (you are using Normal Flash).
Remember, this is a hacked tool, so the settings might not make perfect sense, comparing to the original ones. Just try following the instructions in the OP of the Flash Tool 2014 thread. Like I said, works every time for me...

I don't know why i see "???" also, but it didn't matter
I just tried the settings you told and used CSE Flash which worked out really well.
No i am back to 4.4.2 LG Stock rom. I think the root is gone now, but one thing i wanna ask is if my bootloader is still unlocked and custom recovery is still on it?
Anyway, thank you so so much! I appreciate your help! Thank you!

Glad to hear you are back in business. After flashing KDZ, the root is definitely gone, your BL is locked, and the recovery is stock. You will need to do all the necessary steps again: root, unlock the BL and flash custom recovery.
FIXED. Just had to try over and over until it went to 100%. Seems like its just random errors that prevent it from finishing so nothing but chance really!

I was on Lollipop 5.0.1, rooted with twrp. I wanted to return back to stock. I tried factory reset but it wouldnt work properly. Someone on xda suggested I use the TOT/KDZ method to return to stock. Both methods failed and I am stuck in DOWNLOAD mode. I tried getting back to TWRP and it goes to DOWNLOAD mode instead.
I did make a back up before this happened but I cant get back to TWRP. I used the guide here on XDA to return to stock. Please, I hope I didnt brick my G3. Im freaking out right now with no cellphone right now working.
Im desperate guys. The person/post that saves my day, I will send you a small paypal donation as a sign of thanks!

Are you sure you did the TOT/KDZ method correctly? Because if you did it should overwrite all partitions and it should go back to normal
Download the D852 KDZ from here http://lg-phone-firmware.com/firmware-Lg+G3-Tutti-41.html and then flash it with LG Flashtool. Since your having problems its best if you use CSE flash since it will wipe everything and start new
