Am i rooted? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

i flashed the tar in odin. i saw the red writing, i see su in my app tray, but i keep getting an error unfortunately superuser has closed. titanium cant get roots rights but how can i have a message about su if im not rooted at all. ive tried to flash again and the same error with su unfortunately closing.
any ideas?

Try going to Google play store and pulling up supersu. If it shows "update" instead of "install" just update supersu and you should be good to go. If it doesn't show update, then you will want to flash the update_supersu zip from custom recovery...

I just realized that you won't be able to remove those files without root. You should first check whether you have the files or not. If you don't, then I'm not sure what's going on.
If you do, you need to uncheck the box in Odin to reboot your phone when you flash the custom recovery. When the Odin flash is done, pull the battery, put it back in, then boot into recovery by holding Vol Up, Home, and Power until you see the little blue text. That should get you into custom recovery. From there you can flash su and Superuser.
At this point you have a choice. You can reboot, but it will replace your recovery with stock. You'll still have root though. You'll need to remove the files and reflash a custom root either with Odin, the dd method, or using ROM Manager or GooManager.
The other choice is to use adb while you're booted into the custom recovery and remove the files before you reboot.

Did you try to root with the toolkit then you install a custom recovery and finally you install busy box. Still with the toolkit

I did use tool kit to root guess ill try unchecking the box to reboot after odin I dont think it worked though. Is su supposed to work if i download it from the app store after I try the root through toolkit? Or does it have to be flashed into it

Did you look to see if your phone has the files I mentioned?
You can't just install su from the app store.

Yeah just download it but be sure that it is not already on your phone. Superuser or supersu

You can install the app, but it won't be able to install the su command unless the phone is already rooted.

NVM you dont have root i misread your post....You could use odin to flash lg1 with root injected and then use rootkeeper app to preserve root then take the update to lh9 thats what i did. Gunnyman wrote a post about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895100

If you do flash LG1, be sure to do a factory reset in recovery before you boot to LG1 or you'll get errors from android.process.acore. If you do this with stock recovery, you'll lose all the picture, sound, and video files you have on the internal storage.

I put together a more detailed set of instructions for rooting LH9. See this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32218479&postcount=158
no im not rooted, the toolkit didnt work, and i dont know how the check for the files with out being rooted; ill try gunny's method later tonight and see if that works, have to drive 5 hours right now but ill definately give it a go when i get home. thanks for all you help guys.
and just curious if anyone else has had this same issue? is it the update that did this?
Yep it is the last update

[Q] how to install custom recovery without heimdall\Odin

Hi,
My phone is a rooted (via Exynos Abuse) GN7100.
I would like to install custom recovery.
In my previous HTC Desire Z this was dead simple:
Root, install rom manager, tap "flash clockwork mod" and poof we are done.
How do i do this sans-odin\heimdall?
Thanks

I am not sure I understand.
I only want to replace custom recovery, not custom rom.
How do I make sure it doesn't replace the ROM completely ?
It only has "Flash ROMS"
Simply flash it with mobile odin
If you have tar file for cwm, use 'recovery' tab in mobile odin
Or
If you have cwm recovery in flushable zip, use ota/update zip tab in mobile odin to flash

Goo manager asks you to install a custom recovery before it will allow you to flash a rom.

Will flashing TWRP erase my stuff?

Hello XDA. I have a n00b question. I have rooted my GNote2 using CF Auto Root and kept everything stock but now I would like to start trying some ROMs. I am away from home and don't have computer access so I was wondering if flashing TWRP from Mobile Odin will erase anything and also if it will what and how can I back stuff up before flashing TWRP. And also how to make sure I don't lose anything after that when I get ready to flash a custom ROM from TWRP. Thanks.

Will not Erase anything .... flash twrp and immediately do a nandroid and you will always have your stock setup. ..

Use goomanager app > menu > install recovery > follow instructions > get TWRP > make 1st nandroid > try ROMs > PROFIT!

Funny enough I actually tried Too Manager before I posted this and it kept have downloading errors, specifically failed MD5 checks. No idea why it wasn't working. About to try the Mobile Odin approach with the latest tar image for our phone and see if that works... Thanks for the help

"Couldn't install to usb storage or sdcard" (yes i googled it already)

I've had this issue before when trying to install apps, and a simple unmount sdcard and trying to install the app worked before. I purchase SwiftKey from the play store, tried to install i get this error..i unmounted the sdcard and i still get this error.
I also looked for the smdl2tmp1.asec file in the .android_secure folder and the /mnt/secure/asec folder and i cannot find this file anywhere on my phone.. I tried using Terminal, ES File Explorer, Root Browser, and plugging into the PC.. the file is not on my phone.
Does ANYONE have a fix for this? because this is kind of crazy that i can't install an app i paid good money for.

Most of the time I get this problem I have a custom kernel installed. If you are rooted use a stock .tar kernel with mobile odin and you should be set

Flash a stock jb kernel and you should be able to install apps as usual. It's a known issue that jb repack kernels do that when trying to dl apps.

You can always reflash said recovery with mobile odin to flash other stuff, then flash back to your stock kernel when done.

[Q] Lost root

Ok so the story goes like this:
I have stockorama V2
Stock kernel
I was trying to install busybox with busybox installer from the play store, but it said I didn't have root access
So I went to superSU and did the uninstall from the app itself
Rebooted, installed superSU from play store, it told me to update su binary. Then it failed.
when I try to open SuperSU it says that "I don't have su binary... ...that's a problem" and then closes the app
I think I lost root, but I was wondering is there anyway to get it back without a PC.
I still got twrp recovery so I can still flash stuff

You can flash SuperSU via recovery using the link in my signature. Stockorama includes busybox. Don't install it.

That's weird.
You did flash in recovery correct? Cwm or twrp? What version?
Not sure if its any different than Aerowinders, but you can try SuperSU linked in my sig. Or use Superuser, you should find both there.

Flash it in twrp 2.5 I think, did it 2 times... same thing
Its weird because I still get a toast (when I bootup) that lightflow gets superuser permisions; but when I open Titaniumbkp it gets stuck on a message "asking for root rights"
Btw superSU is as a system app so I can't uninstall before flashing the supersu.zip you guys gave me.

My zip came directly from Chainfire's website, I just changed the name.
You don't uninstall, just flash over the old one. And wipe the data for it also.

Nothing... I get the same message.
Flashed zip in twrp, wiped cache and dalvik, fix permissions, reboot.
Open supersu, and get the same message
I'm juat thinking reflash the rom the thing is I wanted to backup app+data with Titanium but no root. So any suggestion to a backup app that backups data without root...

Well, make a nandroid backup just in case. I dont suggest using it as it may just bring back the problem. But you will at least have everything backed up if you need it later.
Aside from that, you can use the recoveries built in file manager. Also you could boot into recovery and then try to ADB pull what ever you need.
But I would reflash your rom. You only need to wipe dalvik if it is the same rom you are using now. But if that doesnt fix it you will need to do a factory reset at that point.
