I purchased this phone in April and decided I would replace my current charger with a QC 2.0 charger when they became available. I have yet to find one, and need a new charger. Some people say it's just a title, means nothing and that a 2.1A charger will yield the same results. Is this true or should I hold out a bit more?
Nope they're just starting to hit the market in Japan, but I'm guessing they're a few months out at least for the USA.

Hey,
As one of the first devices to support Qualcomm's QuickCharge 3.0 it seems like a great idea to use a QC 3.0 compatible Powerbank on the go.
Not only is it said to be more power efficient, it's definitely faster, the shorter your stuck on a Powerbank, the better right?
So has any of you used a QC3.0 Powerbank before?
A list of certified devices is shown here: https://www.qualcomm.com/news/onq/2...accelerating-hundreds-devices-and-accessories
Aside from the QC 3.0 aspect, I'm not sure what's better. Going for a small 4000-5000mAh device that's handy but charges your phone just once, or go for a huge 16'000mAh brick which will charge it 3-4 times?
I've never had a Powerbank before. Until now I've always reached a wall outlet before I ran empty.
Im actually waiting for anker power bank qc 3.0 to come out, talk with them and seem will be launched this month
I bought this RAV Power 20100mAh unit that is QC3 a couple weeks ago, I've used it with my M9 (As my 10 hasn't arrived yet...) and it seems to work great so far. It costs a couple bucks right now but so far worth it to me...
http://www.amazon.com/Qualcomm-Certified-RAVPower-20100mAh-Technology/dp/B019IFIJW8
I would avoid anything by Aukey, I've had a couple ones that were QC2 go bad and their customer service response is not good at all.
I'm waiting for choe tech one to arrive and I'll review it as soon as I get it

Nice.
As I doubt that you have a QC3.0 compatible USB Powermonitor may I ask you to use Software to Benchmark a Charging situation?
Using the App Battery Log ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.hwangti.batterylog) you can simply start the service when at 5% Battery and the Powerbank is connected.
5% because everything below is bad for battery health if you do it to often, and everything above isn't really a full charge.
When you receive your phone and have time to play around, that is
I hope the Powerbank is able to charge the phone as fast as a wall charger.
P.S did you know that RAVpower is not on the official list from Qualcomm for QC3.0 certified devices?

Their qc3 power bank is on the list, their charger is not.
I come from a Nexus 6P that also had a USB C port. Today I needed to charge my phone and the 6P charger was next to me. But, knowing all the issues there are/were with USB C, I decided to search before using the charger and I found this article:
http://www.androidcentral.com/my-htc-10-hates-pixel-c-charger
After reading this article, I found some threads speaking about this and decided that I would stick with the official charger only.
But, I got curious. When this information came out, the phone was pretty new. Were there any new findings regarding this in the meantime? Is it really mandatory that I only use the official charger unless I want my phone to turn into a Note 7?

Google does not support Quick Charge technology forced by Qualcomm. They go with proprietary USB Power Delivery. So no wonder Google charger does not work with QuickCharge enabled phones.
I think HTC is to blame here though. They should have gone with USB C standards, not Qualcomm's.
So, we should stick with only the official charger I guess?
You can basically use any charger but just to be on the safe side I would stay away from the USB-PD chargers. USB Power Delivery and Qualcomm Quick Charge differ quite a bit.
"Any charger" being anything that's a basic 5V USB charger whether it's a 1A or 1.5A or 1.8A or 2A or 2.4A... Or any Quick Charge 2.0 or Quick Charge 3.0 charger.
And if you want to be extra safe, only buy chargers from reputable brands and in the case of Quick Charge chargers, pick one from the certified list.
https://www.qualcomm.com/documents/quick-charge-device-list (PDF)
If you come across a QC charger that's not on the certified list, you can ask yourself: has the manufacturer certified any other products? If they have, you're pretty much good to go. If they haven't, well ask the manufacturer why they haven't certified any QC products they make. Another good question for a charger manufacturer would be to ask what power controller are they using in that product? If the power controller is certified then, well, that's that. I'd say you're good to go as the power controller is the brains of the whole operation.
I personally have a Tronsmart CC2TF charger in our car, it's not on the certified list but they have certified a dozen different accessories in the past so I'm not even slightly worried. They make good products.
P.S. @cavist Qualcomm doesn't force anything. If an OEM doesn't want to use Quick Charge on their device then they will not use it. Whoopdy doo, big deal.
Also USB-PD is non-proprietary, royalty-free spec in contrast to the proprietary, royalty-free Quick Charge spec.

I mismatched the words and meaning, thanks for correcting this. As for forcing issue, I meant that almost every device with Snapdragon with QC is using that feature and the company is advertising their power delivery standard which anybody would expect opposite to Google which is relying on approved USB PD specification. It is strange that so many big companies choose the QC and not proper USB PD in its place while having a free hand in choosing the charging standard.
Hello,
Just got the s8+ but it didn't come with the charger as 2nd hand. I am trying to buy the adaptive fast charger but all I seem to be able to find are fake ones with terrible reviews. Can anyone point me towards a decent working one available in the UK?
Cheers
Just get any charger with Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 or 3.0 will work
Guess we will hear more about this later with ppl with the proper equipment to test this, but i'm just gonna base this off the phone notification.
I'm getting the same estimated charge time using my 30w macbook charger, 60w monoprice usbpd charger, 18w usb-pd anker power bank, as a standard adaptive fast charger I have in the house (15w i think?).
Meanwhile the 25w brick that comes with the phone cuts the time by about 10min or so vs the other options above.
I did read about the 45w situation to be tricky, but this is the first time i've heard about the 25w charger being special in this way.
Would love to see more tests and see if there are 3rd party solutions that can get the full 25w speeds, and maybe the 45w ones.
hopefully its not a oneplus situation where you can only get the best stuff from their own first party chargers.

Was reading u need a Type C E cable, whatever that is. I bought a 45W wall charger and still waiting on phone to see what's the deal. Could be the cable you're using that cant handle the load

I was thinking about this. I tried the usb-c -usb-c cable that comes with the box on other chargers and sadly this didn't change anything.
Think you need the proper cable and proper PPS configs on the PD brick to get this working.

Yes you are correct. A special USB-C cable with an embedded chipset (E) is required along with special PPS. At this early stage I'm not certain many (if any) third party vendors meet these requirements. The only safe bet is the Samsung- branded one.
CONFIRMED !
i have a aftermarket 45w home charger and aftermarket 45w power bank.
both WONT charge at 45W, it charging like 15W.
when i plug in the stock 25w charger, it charging faster.
I have an Anker duel charger that has 45W USB C and a USB A. The USB C is rated at 45W and the USB A is rated at 15W. The 25W charges faster than the 45W. (at least what I am seeing)
Good info about the special cable. If we need a special cable... Where do we find it?
I do have to say, it charges fast with the 25W one.

Ill check mines when the phone comes later today.
But i do remember reading that it used a different voltage/amp set.
Which if the charger doesnt support it. Then it would default to the lower one.
I.e.
If your charger is 5v 9v 12v 15v
But the phone needw 10v
It would default to the 9v.
Cant remember where i read this. But was a prerelease testing
The safe way to go is to use the samsung official chargers, that are precisely tuned for this, I would not risk a brand new somewhat expensive device
What is this telling me? phone says fast charging.
Using an Amazon Basics 60watt PD charger.

yeah the phone claims it is rated for 10V at 4.5A and most 45W chargers use 15V at 3A, so likely to be nothing on the market fully capable of charging at super speed at the moment.
as for the USB cable it is a subset of USB 3.1 Gen 2, basically you need a cable with a chip in it, that chip allows you to break the 3A limit on standard cables. I've ordered this as I wanted a longer cable for my standard charger and should work with the 45W if I get it down the road. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073RY5JZ3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now try this with the 25w charger in the box and you should notice shorter charge time remaining in the notification.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S2PCVGB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
the cables i listed are what I use now. I have a 1TB 12.9 ipad pro and picked up these cables to use with its fast pd charging.
this charger:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TC53ZYD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
is not PPS but it does have 9 Volt at 3amps. i tested it with one of my note 10s and the ipad from 10%. im using a 60W anker brick for the ipad:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BQJWDRM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and the newer ravpower brick charged up much faster. again not pps (pdo) but it is fast in my less than scientific testing.
I'm just gonna use my $200 Samsung pre order credit to buy several oem or 45 watt chargers.

How? I ordered one on 8/27/19 and it's not expected to be delivered till 9/26/19. It went out of stock like a day after I ordered. It's not even showing available on Samsung.

You might want to check to make sure you actually got the 45w charger as it's been out of stock since about 8/28 - 8/29.

Hi there!
I just got my G7 Plus minutes ago, yiipppieeh.
On the charger that came with it I read "TurboPower", is this charger Quick Charge able and compatible?
I wonder if I can use this charger with a micro usb adapter with my older BBarry device.
Usually I think they deliver cheaper chargers with their phones that are not Quick Charge capable.
Thanks!

A charger can't send more juice to a device than the device can pull.
If your BB will only pull 2A (and I'm just using this number for an example, I don't know what your BB is rated at) then hooking it to the G7+ charger won't make it charge at 27A - it'll still be 2A.
That said, there's a benefit if your current BB charger is old and not putting out the amperage it used to then the G7+ charger would help.
You'll also need to factor in your micro USB adapter too - cheap ones might limit the amperage because of inefficiency, etc.
For RL experience, my family uses my TurboPower charger for their non-TurboPower phones and they charge normally.
Oh - for your G7+, it'll charge quick until 78% and then charge "normally".
