[Q] Soft Bricked? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I tried to follow this guide:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-xda-developer-tv/
And it didn't work.
When I hit Start on Odin it told me failed and the phone first went into Firmware Update mode.
I tried using KIES to get out of it but KIES freezes up on my computer when i type in SGH-T999 on the recovery portion. It doesn't even let me get to the S/N part.
I tried to flash cwm recovery and it worked and I can get in there, but it won't mount the SD card so I can't flash anything else.
I then tried to flash TWRP and that worked as well. I was able to get in there and tried to flash ANYTHING to just be able to get back into the phone, and it doesn't work (tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426720 )
I am currently unsure as to how to proceed from here. I can find ways to get stuff onto my sd card but it just doesn't want to run on the phone.
I am currently NOT rooted. I did try to use the option to get rooted through TWRP and it seems to fail every time.
I can access the download mode + recovery mode. Here is what I see on download mode:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-T999
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: yes (5 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Warranty Bit: 1
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 1
In case anyone needs to know I did have the latest version available to me through T-Mobile which I believe was 4.3.
Can anyone help me out?

I tried to flash 4.3 from here:

And it didn't work. Are you referring to a different ROM?

The first time I did it it said FAIL and that's when this issue came up. Phone started saying firmware update error.
I was able to get back into the downloader and tried it again and now it just hangs on Odin and doesn't go past sbl2.mn (might be wrong).
I didn't receive error messages anymore. I ran Odin with that ROM selected and let it run for over an hour (video says takes about 10 minutes).

Try using different USB ports or computer

Uninstall kies. It interferes with odin. Bit also, odin has a message box in the lower left. What did it say there when it failed?
Also be sure you are getting the right firmware. There are several different models supported in that thread.

[SOLVED] Galaxy SIII recovery issue

Hello,
Let me start off by saying if this is the wrong place to post this please inform me of the right forum.
I just recently got a Samsung Galaxy SIII (on August 29) and everything was working really well, until today. Yes it is rooted. I plugged the phone into my computer and Kies said there was a firmware update for my phone. I began doing the upgrade and my beloved windows computer got the blue screen of death during the actual update process.
After restarting my computer, I began to do the update recovery to continue with my upgrade. Same blue screen. I spoke to a rogers tech rep and he requested I re-install my Kies software, which I did. Upon having no success from that I began to do more research, however most of them are saying to reflash the stock firmware (which I have) using ODIN. I have no success here as well. Every time i do get into download/recovery mode, ODIN recognizes my phone, but fails when i click start.
In my recovery mode the information i see is as follows:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-1747M
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Is there anything at all I can do to fix this? Or am I one of those most unfortunate people who just got screwed lol.
ANY assistance is VERY MUCH appreciated!
Thanks in advance
If you have clockwork recovery, try formatting the system first then flash the ROM. Just dont reboot without flashing the ROM first.
Have you tried the emergency firmware load through KIES?

thank you for the quick reply! sorry for my late one, just got home from a family emergency...
no I don't have CWM.. I'm very familiar with it though I didn't put it on my SIII (i was planning to do so tonight)
I've tried the emergency firmware, however it asked for a code which I don't have :S
I'm new to Samsung's version of Android, previously I owned an Xperia X10
Try running Odin on a different computer
If you're using a desktop use the usb ports on the back Odin don't like the usb hub on front, or try different computers, I have one computer that Odin will never work on but I go right to my other one and works fine, try restarting pc or uninstall Odin and download a different version, also try downloading a few different roms try these below, I've been in that position then finally after trying and trying a Rom will finally take

Is there a firmware that I need to download?

If you want root, are in download mode, and are ready to flash something with Odin, use the root66 firmware. Easy and safe.

There are tutorials on unrooting. If you never plan on rooting again it may get be a good idea to use triangle away to reset your flash counter in case you ever have to use a warranty exchange.

I am just trying to Root my SGH-T999 with Odin 3.07.
I checked the MD% on the Flash it's good.
I have a good cable, Can connect and down load data to and from my phone via Samsung drivers.
aboot.mbm showed up after about 5 minutes then nand write start
now boot.img there is no indication of anything on the phone or the computer?
I tried it with Odin3.185 and it failed almost immediately.
why is it taking so long?
It has been on Boot.img for about 30 minutes now with no indication...

I pulled the cable and reset all.
I then did the same process with my phone in error mode now (the error that says to hook to kies , this is download mode but not the traditional mode).
With it in this mode it worked.
I don't know. This is two different devices that have not worked until the kies error has appeared.
Maybe my cable is starting to fail. I will get a new Samsung rated USB cable. I am sure they wear out eventually.
I got it and thanks for your input!
Glad you figure it out! And yeah, usb cables go bad all the time and are much more fragile than people want to think!

[Q] What does RQT_CLOSE mean?

I am at the point where my AT&T Note 2 SGH-i317 either displays the Samsung Note II screen or I can go into the Odin screen. It will not open recovery.
If I try to install CF-Auto-Root-t0lteatt-t0lteatt-samsungsghi317.tar.md5 using Odin, I get the message from the title.
Odin appears to load the factory 4.1 rom but I end up with the same message at the end.
I had successfully restored 4.1 using Odin and then the phone auto updated to 4.3. After that, I followed the instructions for installing Jedi Master but the phone won't restart. I tried to use the same files I got 4.1 back with (this has worked twice before from 4.3) but they will no longer work. Is there anything I can do to get the phone working again?

Which version of odin are you using?
Can you enter stock recovery or only download mode?
If you can get into stock recovery if it says anything about knox then you have the new bootloader, which you should if you updated to 4.3 via an ota update or an odin file. If you have this we can skip a few steps. If you don't, we will basically be starting from the beginning.
Assuming you have the newer bootloader, this is what I need you to do.
Go to teamw.in and download the latest twrp and make sure it's the recovery.img.tar.md5 flash that through odin.
In the mean time start a fresh download of jedi masterx2. When that download finishes make sure you verify the md5 sum. This is key. One digit off and the entire download is bad and you'll end up bootlooping again.
Once you have twrp and a good download of jmx2 boot into twrp. Do a system wipe and then flash the rom.
Let me know how it works. Just be patient and we can get this fixed for you. As long as you can power on you can recover your phone and make it work.

Odin shows the Knox flag, so I assume I am on 4.3.
I cannot find this file, "recovery.img.tar.md5".
The most likely looking file I found was this, but it isn't an md5, "openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar".
In fact I find no files with an "md5" extension on that site.

[Q] Odin a stock firmware

No. I have pictures and music and all SD card contents dating back to the time I bought the phone and I used Odin last week to return to stock.

No, but you may need to factory reset, which would delete all the files in your device..
There are possible ways trying to get around this, but its safer to just back up your important files in case something unexpected happens

Hmm.. Ok try flashing firmware with Odin, if that doesn't fix it then flash twrp recovery and reboot to recovery, after that do a factory reset within twrp.. This will perform a factory reset without wiping user files.. Reboot and it should boot up

What firmware version did you try to flash? If it was ever updated to 4.3 you can only ever flash the same or newer firmware again. So if it had been updated to NC2 before, you can only flash NC2 firmware. (Latest version). If this doesn't apply, you might want to try reinstalling drivers. Also, only use Odin v3.07 or 3.09.
You can try to odin flash twrp recovery though, then make a nandroid backup to be safe. It also has a built in file manager and you can use it to copy the picture folder from internal to external sd card.

Yes, you can flash a custom recovery without root. Its actually the original root method if I'm not mistaken. (Flash recovery, then from that recovery flash the SuperSU update zip. )
Since youre using the latest firmware, we know that's not the cause at least.
Few other things that are known to cause Odin to fail...
Make sure you are using the correct firmware for the device. (Make sure if its a T999, T999L, T999N, T999V and use the corresponding firmware)
If kies is on your computer, uninstall it
Try different usb cables, yes they quite often do go bad.
Try every usb port on your computer. I've seen more than a few people find it only worked on one usb port! No idea why...
Try different driver versions. Make sure you uninstall through device manager. Drivers are in my sig.
If all else fails, try a different computer if possible.
If I think of anything else ill add it.

Stuck in brickloop, Tried odin stock firmware, no go

Hello all!
So I bought a SGH M919 s4 off craigslist for 150 knowing that it wouldn't boot past the Samsung galaxy s4 boot screen, Thinking it would be an easy fix by flashing the stock firmware through odin. Well that's not the case, I've tried just about everything I am capable of...
1.Both odin 3.0 7 and odin 3.0 9 both flash and the device passes but on the boot screen it says booting recovery and just sticks there, It stuck on that over night so I am being patient.
2. I've tried flashing 4.3 which fails right away leading me to believe the phone was updated to 4.4.2 at some point in time.
3. It wont let me boot into stock recovery or I've even tried flashing TWRP, CWM and it pass's but still will not let me boot into those recovery's either.
4. Tried rooting the phone a couple times and that passes in odin but does nothing after that.
5. I ve tried different phone cables, I haven't tried a different computer yet.
6. The only thing I can get into on the phone is download mode and it says this on the screen
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-M919
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0X0
KNOX WARRANTYVOID: 0X1
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0X30

eMMC BURST MODE enable
I don't remember seeing those last two things on the list normally if I can recall. Any help will be greatly appreciated and possibly a donation if we can get this thing fixed. Thanks.

Na that wouldnt matter. Your pit file is for your partition layouts. Which dont ever change.
I really cant think of anything else of why you can't get into recovery or boot the phone with everything you've tried. You might just need to Jtag the device

The OP mentions that you tried flashing 4.3 and you speculated if it had been updated to 4.4.2. Just out of curiosity, have you tried flashing the stock 4.4.2 firmware?

Yes I've been to flashing 4.4.2 and it passes Odin. I think maybe you meant have I tried flashing 4.2.2? I have not tried flashing 4.2.2 firmware yet, I might try that but 4.2.2 didn't have the Knox counter did it?

No, I meant 4.4.2. It was a dumb question, but sometimes it's the simple things you overlook. Like I said, the OP only said you tried flashing MK2. You won't be able to flash anything pre-KNOX so there's no need in wasting the time downloading the MDL firmware.
An idea would be to power the phone off, boot straight to download mode, flash NB4, pull the battery when it's complete, boot straight back to download mode and re-flash NB4. I know that you have to do that sometimes for the modem to stick, perhaps you could try that with the firmware itself. Hey, worth a shot. Good luck.

I think I might have tried flashing twice in a row but I'll try it again since I haven't tried that since I've flashed the pit file. Thanks for the tip and I'll report back after the double flash.
