The problem I'm facing is this: out of the blue, my device has stopped recognizing the USB OTG, even though it is detected!
So, the N7 is rooted and I'm using stickmount, which detects the usb as normal when it is plugged in, assigns it a name and everything, but when you open the folder in ES explorer (or any similar app) it is empty!
It is not ROM related, because not only have a tried a few different ROMs, but it is also not recognized at all by TWRP.
Also, keep in mind that: a) it used to work perfectly well, and b) it works fine on my N5!
Any ideas? I've searched high and low for a solution to this, but have so far been unable to find anything, so any ideas or input would be vastly appreciated!

My mac is unable to detect my phone since I flashed Cyan 6 Test 8 Koush, as such I am unable to use adb. Given that I use a mac I assume this is not a driver issue. Phone is able to recharge via USB and USB debugging is enabled. I have found this issue (USB Brick) for the desire on this site but it involves flashing a rom unique to that device. Any ideas on how to resolve issue? Other than USB brick issue, everything is in order.
My card reader is able to read SD card and I have copied to my HD, so I assume issue is with USB on phone.
The only thing I can think of is that your phone somehow got stuck on "Charge Only" mode. In the stock version you can go to Settings, Connect to PC and then change some options there... I do not use this rom though so I'm sorry I can't help you other any further (I'm sure you likely already knew about the above info... if no one responds to you with an answer within a couple days I'd consider asking the Indian Prince of Roms himself... and I know he uses a Mac).
I assume you are mounting your system in recovery while trying to get adb?

Yes. Device is not found. Can't view contents via finder either. When I pop out SD card and insert into reader contents are visible.

This should also fix usb bricks.

Obviously you will need to try it from a terminal emulator.
I recently had the same issue - on a PC - where my CM6 test 8 install would charge but not register as a USB device and give me device malfunction warning messages. Turns out it was a problem with a non-HTC branded micro USB cable I was using.
Odd thing is it worked fine for a month or so, then decided to not work anymore out of any USB port. Switching over to the original cable fixed the problem. Now the other cable is relegated to the stock charger.

Thank you. I am on the road, so I won't be able to implement your solution until later. The procedure you outlined seems simple enough. I will reread. Is it ok if I email you with any questions, or would you prefer that I address my questions via this forum?

Funny thing is that I did not notice the problem until I changed cables. I was using a third party w/no problems, problem only surfaced when I used original cable. Hopefully I will have same luck as you, if not, adrynalyne posted near idiot proof instructions. I just hope that I am brighter than your average idiot, no promises.
adrynalyne, if my hboot is .77 could I simply flash PBI131.img to revert back to original? If not, could I use terminal emulator on my phone to execute necessary commands?
Answer from adrynalyne was "Well, yeah. the PB31IMG.zip should work, as long as it lets you. The other method would need to be done if it won't."
I was able to resolve the problem by switching usb cord to a 3rd party from htc, go figure. Nevertheless, the USB issue has been cited in other forums and if anybody else runs into the problem, follow directions above, i.e. follow links.
TY to all who gave me advice, esp. adrynalyne.
hey, umm.. im having a similar problem. when i try to plug in my droid incredible with the leaked 8/1 froyo rom, nothing comes up on my PC, i am able to acces my sd card by going to computer, and then clicking my sd card. but when i did this, i also noticed that there was a new cd drive, which comes from my phone. does anyone know if this is a usb brick?
Apparently there is a vzw ISO. There are instructions on how to remove in another post. Search USB bricked. I can't post links otherwise I would.

Well, i tired it, but it didnt fix my auto start problem... and now, the cd drive doeant have a name, its juat cd drive:f
I've searched and search and found nothing, so I need a little help with this one.
On my computer I run portable apps from a flash drive. I also like to connect my Android phone. The problem I have is that while either one works swell by itself, the computer fails to recognize one or the other when both are plugged in at the same time. Preference is always given to the device that is plugged in first.
As I'm always using my flash drive, it's a hassle to disconnect it just to plug in my phone. And it's even more irritating to know that I can't access my portable apps as long as my phone is connected. The best I can do so far is to plug the phone in and choose charge only which allows XP to see it as an Android ADB device. This assigns drive letters to the multiple drives android uses, but all drives are listed as being empty. I should also note that I do have a printer connected via USB but I never have any problems with it.
What I've tried to fix the problem:
-Utilize the USB ports in the rear of the computer - No Luck
-Manually assigning drive letters - No Luck
-Search for alternative driver for Flash Drive - No Luck
-Downloaded HTC SYNC for an alternative driver to my phone - No Luck
-Downloaded and "Unsuccessfully" attempted to install Android SDK USB driver. - I don't know if this would have solved the problem or not but the installation of SDK never seems to give me the driver the phone is looking for.
So I'm at a loss as to whether or not there is a fix to my problem. Any help would be appreciated!
Computer - XP SP3 / Pent 4
FlashDrive - 8Gig Corsair Voyager
Phone: Rooted HTC Incredible running Synergy RC1 ( I throw this in there just for an FYI but the problem was present on other ROMS I've tried so I'm not led to believe it's a Rom issue)
I'm not sure if this is a Phone issue, or a computer issue so I've cross posted this with the folks over at Tech Guy Support
MOD - Problem Solved please feel free to delete if you don't think it's useful to keep this around.
Problem was solved (Credit to Rockn over at Tech Guy Support). My PC is underpowered to run my USB devices. I plugged the phone into a Powered USB Hub and it works perfectly now.
So my phone was mounting fine on my pc, and then all of a sudden it wasn't. My Nexus 7 still mounts properly and accepts developer commands, but the m8 won't (yes developer settings is on).
I tried wiping and flashing a rom clean and it still doesn't work, charges fine though. Any advice?

You might try a different cord.
Open Device Manager in Windows and then plug the phone in. Do you see it in the list with a little yellow triangle? Do you see Android USB Devices listed?
OP after literally messing with various driver files, 8 usb ports and 2 laptops, I dug out my old box of cables and found a taped up, on its last limb OEM HTC EVO 4g (not lte the original) cable. This thing has been through the ringer. But its exactly what It needed. I figured with the 3 cable I had already tried this wasn't the issue, but have you tried using an OEM cable? I guess that is all that works. Good Luck

Still trying to get it to work, have tried 4 cables myself. I might just end up having to return the phone.... Fastboot works in bootloader

Uninstall all HTC drivers and HTC Sync. Then connect the phone. DO NOT choose the option to automatically install any drivers.
Open Device Manager, find the phone. Select the option to manually pick the driver, and select the generic MTP device driver.
This is what worked for me, after countless attempts at re-installing various HTC drivers, different cables and ports, etc.
Bump. Still looking for answer to this. I have RUU'ed both to Sense and Google Phone editions and the problem still persists, the phone does not detect its connected to a computer and change to mtp accordingly. Only way I was able to get the RUU in there was through fastboot, which is again the only time I can access the phone through usb. Adb is no luck in either android or recovery.

Have you tried revoking the USB debugging authorization and then accepting the RSA fingerprint key again when connecting to PC?
Obviously it can't be an USB cable problem if you can connect to it in bootloader mode and use fastboot commands.
To clarify, the phone just charges when connected, it does not detect that it is connected to PC so debugging doesn't even trigger, neither does mtp. I don't even get the slow charging notification
Does it do the same when you plug it in and reboot the computer to "pick up" during boot up process? Or if you run a live CD? I never had an issue like that with my phone but I did have a similar problem with the USB external blu ray drive I bought some time ago. The pc just didn't detect it at all not on any of the ports until I rebooted my PC with the drive already plugged it and for some reason it picked it up. <Not a solution as I don't know what caused it to not be detected in the first place but still...
Not sure if it's an issue with the device(Phone for you, blu ray drive for me) or if it's a problem with the PC even though other things might still work for you as it definitely did for me(phone, headset, mouse, keyboard, usb extender + all the external hard-drives connected to it)...
Problem exists in all computers, Mac, pc, linux
Did you try what I suggest in Post #6 above?
This worked for me when I had the same issue. adb and fastboot would work, but it would not mount MTP.
And just in the last day or 2 I helped someone else with the same issue and fix.
The phone doesn't show up in device manager.
Have you modify the Kernel? (Applying some settings for example)
I browsed over the web for this issue and found some people with the same problems. They solved by removing the settings applied on the kernel or flashing a new one.
I've flashed various kernels and ruu, still same result
Still looking for help
EDIT:
Most part of that problem solved, I bought new USB socket with ribbon, and replaced it. It worked. it seems there was a cold solder near the socket. USB works now with other devices like Flash drive, mouse, etc..
Still there's a little problem - while connected to a PC, neither phone nor PC show any signs of connection.
Anyone met the same problem? I checked on to computers Win8.1 and Win7 - no response.
I tried to install some additional drivers but with no luck...

I've got Huawei P6 and used it with a few ROMs, after flashing one I noticed android doesn't detect USB connection anymore.
It sees it as regular charger - no popup on notofication bar, no way to exchange data with PC.
Changing ROM doesn't solve the problem. I tried stock ones with no effect (installed from zip file in TWRP).
I searched over the web and found no similar case. I think rolling back to full stock could possibly help, but I'm not sure how to do it - will creating dload folder with install data be enough? does it contain all the kernels, recovery and so on - to have the software version exacly as from factory?
USB OTG doesn't seen to work now either, It all worked before. Is there a way to force-detect the connection?
Please, don't write me to check the cable or drivers or to clean the USB plug. Each double... tripple checked. Tried different cables, computers. I've no problem connecting other phones.
I'll be very greatful for help in solving this issue. Even copying a photo to a pc is a problem now...
thanks in advance
Hello everybody.... I write because I'm facing a problem that's causing lot of headhache:
I have this Samsung A3 (SM-A320FL) with broken screen, no USB debug, no root and stock recovery and I need to retrieve data from it.
I tried almost everything:
- programs like Dr.Fone, but the model wasn't supported
- connect the smartphone to the pc, but I can't confirm the mtp connection from the first
- used a USB otg splitter, one port filled with a mouse and another connected directly to the pc, but the smartphone wasn't even seen
I was thinking to flash a custom recovery to use adb, but:
I don't even know what version of Android is installed, nor firmware and I think that encryption was automatically turned on, so unless someone of you has a solution, the best for now is to repair the screen.
The situation is interesting but honestly I didn't see as many solutions...
