For the past few months, I have found my phone to be kinda relunctant to switch between landscape and portrait mode when tilted.
It's now come to a point that if it ever switches to landscape, it mostly never comes back to portrait when switched back.
The weird part is that if I use a "bubble level" app, the level switches mode instantly when tilted horizontally or vertically.
Is there some kind of calibration that can be done or anything?
For the record, I'm running stock Kik Kat 4.4.2 NE6 + root + xposed + wanam and phone rotation is ticked in Settings --> Display.
Thanks!

Already tried that, without any hope of it succeeding, and it doesn't help at all.
There may be apps that can help. I seem to remember there being some sort of calibration you could do by moving the device in s figure 8.
This won't calibrate it, but open the dialer and enter *#0*#, then tap the Sensors button in the middle. At the top you can press image button to show an arrow on the screen. If working correctly it will point up no matter how you turn the device.
If you cant find a way to calibrate it, try reflashing your firmware and factory resetting.

Cool tip, thanks!
However, guess I'll have to reflash and factory reset as sensors seem to be working fine in *#0*# --> Sensor --> Image Test screen.
On a side note, there's no arrow in the "Image Test" screen... only x, y and z angle values. And yes I did clic on the "Image test" button.
Might be a little different as I am familiar with the T999.
You can also try *#7353#, then choose accelerometer. If I remember right it goes right to the test screen with the arrow. Though it may just show the same thing you got before on yours.
---------- Post added at 01:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:19 PM ----------
And yeah, if it seems to work ok in apps, and the built in test, its more likely to be a software issue. After the firmware flash, you can try it before factory resetting if you like. But if its still having problems do the reset and test rotation before installing/restoring your apps and data.
*#7353# - - > Accelerometer did bring up the arrow you were referring to.
The arrow switches within a fraction of a second following a tilt, so it's most likely software related.
Thanks for you help Doc!
No problem! Hope the firmware flash or reset helps!

Hi guys, I am not sure if it's the place I should post this, if not mods plz move my thread to the appropriated message board.
Recently my phone fell off my desk head on. Right on the top of the phone. Now the button on/off is not functioning. I can still use the phone but as soon as it close the screen I can't light it up again. In the options I manage the let the screen open at all time but...
Bell is asking for a couple hundred bucks for repair or couple hundred to cancel my contract.
I was wondering if it was possible to some how make the camera button the on/off fonction.
I haven't open the phone yet (screws) to check the damage internally, I may be able to fix it but I doubt it.
I'll post pictures later tomorrow.
Do you guys have any ideas?
yes, check out AE button plus, you can't set it to power on the phone however you can set it to power the screen on and off. However to turn the screen on with a button other then the power button you must change the settings in key lock under settings/system/key lock you must set it do not lock buttons, otherwise no button will function, the only thing is that your call end buttons work as well.
get AE button plus
set whatever button to power on/off the backlight
disable key lock on screen power off
good luck
wow jeez thx.
I had a very hard time to find it for free so here's the cab

Same thing happened to me. This is what I did and I fixed it.
1. Take the battery cover off
2. Look at where the power button is, if you look closely you will the the button "hinges on the right side"

I was playing with my phone the other day and the home button and the search buttons suddenly stopped working. Totally out of the blue.
I have tried different ROMs, and they started working again for an hour or so and then stopped again. The keytest in recovery registers the key presses.
What do you think may be wrong?
It's probably hardware, there have been other reports of buttons that stop functioning, run a search and you'll find them.
Repair is the only solution I guess.
I doubt its hardware, I tried setting the volume up button to the hone function with an app, but that does nothing either.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I hope it's not hardware too but this kind of complaint isn't the first

Can you access the *#*#3424#*#* test menu. If you can run the button test.
Another think you may try, is booting in safe mode to check if they would work then.
If you cant get it working take a look at this.
Edit: This app has just been released on the market, search for 'button savior'.
The app was made for the HD2 but is working fully on my desire running cyanogenmod, haven't tried any other roms.
I hope you get it working and don't need it though

Some success, I installed CM 6.1 and had my home and search buttons back. THEN, I restored a bunch of apps with titanium backup, I soon restarted my phone and bam, buttons no longer function on the reboot.
My problems don't seem to be the same as the above links, keytest in recovery has no problems with the buttons, they have not been playing up over a long period of time, and they are not erratic. They either work or they do not.
I suppose I should uninstall apps till I find the culprit?
I can't think of a better fix than that, might take a while but at least you should be with a fully functioning phone in the end
Probably it's better to first install the quality apps that you know are not causing the issue, and then install one by one apps that are from not so renowned devs.
Ok, So on my one x(and a second one), when i disable auto rotate, the screen flips over (so the notifaction bar is at the bottom near the buttons)
- this happens on both my phones, from 2 different networks
Notice the auto rotate widget, when it is on / normal the screen looks fine
but when i disable auto rotate it goes backwards!
(ignore the cracks )
normal:

upside down: (look carefully )
Could anyone else try disabling auto rotate via the htc widget and see if the same thing happens?
-G-sensor calibration does not help
-if you power of the phone, then turn it back on while the screen is upside down, it comes on the right way, but flips backwards when you re-enable auto rotate
could anyone please try disabling auto rotate on the phone and see if the same thing happens?
thanks
Disabled it just now, no problem whatsoever

I have the same problem!
It just happened one day and it's been the same since... even after multiple OTA-updates.
I have to have auto-rotate enabled for it to be normal.
Has anyone found a solution for this?
I can't remember how mime got fixed!! It was ether the .29 its update or when I rooted and put a custom ROM(+kernel and everything) on it, so It is definately not a hardware issue
Mine stopped after a reset. Well I also rooted it then, but still at the standard rom.

Hello,
My N7100's a little too sensitive to rotation on the right. This just started happening 2 days ago, out of the blue. For the left side, I have to rotate my phone properly into landscape mode but to the right, even if it is tilted 1/8th of an inch e.g. while picking phone up, switching hands or left handed operation, it will suddenly rotate to landscape.
I have tried calibrating the gyroscope some 10 times but to no avail.
Any solution to this?
Thanks!
SOLVED: Read post #8
No one?
It's a bug in samsung touchwiz (4.1.2)..I have it too only solution I got was to use ultimate rotation control it will help or else if you can wait for samsung to fix it in 4.2.2
Here's the app link I hope it helps

@mufaddalezzi Thank you for your reply. However, my problem has not been solved by the app since it doesnt adjust the sensor.
My problem:
Phone thinks its tilted to the right while it is only 5-6 degrees to the right. I cant play games that require motion sensing such as Temple run because the character is running to the right with the phone being perfectly straight.
XDA, i need your help!
P.s: i tried restoring to an older nandroid backup from TWRP but to no avail
Tried. Calibration from the service menu at *#0*# under Sensors and again, no help. This wathe post that fixedit for someone else

Maybe it's a hardware failure(accelerometer or gyroscope)..that means you might need to change/replace it

Sure? I am not covered by warranty and would hate to sell my phone the gyro works fine its just that the calibration of it is wrong, the phone thinks it is tilted slightly to the right
I figured it out. For anyone else with this problem:
1) Boot phone into safe mode (Turn phone off and turn it back on. As soon as animation starts press and hold volume down button - It should say SAFE MODE in the lower left corner of the screen when turned on)
2) Reboot phone
Voila!
Mystery solved. Case closed.
I've owned S5 to S7 Samsung phones and a long time, old ass Android user here, but I can't seem to configure the pull down menu to swap in preferred shortcuts. For some reason, my phone defaults to crap like FTP Server and LiveCaption. So, I swiped down twice, hit the three button menu key and hit Button Order. I then drag the four buttons I'd prefer to the top and hit Done.
Nothing. As soon as I go back to the home screen, I'm still getting the same useless shortcuts that my phone has randomly defaulted to. I've gone in to button order (and when it takes me to the option to pick which shortcuts I want, it's showing all of the ones that I had selected on my previous attempt) and hit reset and selected them again by dragging them to the top. When I hit Done, it exits back, but no change.
I've soft reset the phone, I've booted into safe mode - both times I tried to change the button order - both times no change. The phone is completely up to date. Samsung Tech Support isn't giving me any answers. Do I have to try a factory wipe or is there some other step I've missed along the way?
