When I chose a contact in the dialer and tap on the edit button, the app crashes. Does anyone else have suffer from this problem?

There is not a problem with every contact, some do work, but some cause a forced close!

Is there any differences between the contacts e.g. were they all Google contacts, or were they added manually on the phone or sim card etc?
I have got the exact same problem. All contacts are from my google account but not all force close when I try to edit, just the ones I want to edit
There is obviously no pattern to be detected...som google contacts dont work and some non google contacts as well, and some work though
only those contacts with events
My G3 contacts app force closes too. I figured out that it is due to the events (Birthdays, Anniversary) in the contact. You can view the contact just fine, but once you edit it, the app force closes. You can also create a new contact and try to add a new event, the app will force close.
However, I find this problem a little odd. The app only started to force close after I had done a factory reset to fix my wifi problems. Prior to the factory reset, I was able to edit some contacts with events.
I hope that I'm wrong, and there is a way to fix this problem quickly. I'm not sure LG is good at fixing stuff.

"Show Phone in Calender App" is the one. I only make it show in Cantact App which is not enough. Now works... no more FCs for this issue.

Same issue
OK so I can't figure how to show the phone calendar then. Any help so I can see if it stops the crash. Mine is just a black box and there isn't a check box like I have on the other other calendars to select anything.

In stock calendar app, click the day/week/month/year/agenda at the top left of your screen. Scroll down to find the "Calendars to display" section and you will find "phone" with a checkbox.

Thank you. One more random problem resolved. I don't have any idea how you discovered this cure, but I'd bet it took some time. My calendar app is Day by Day and I found that setting in that app.

I cant believe it! I have been trying to fix this for months. I have always used third party calendar software, but could never figure out how to fix this issue with contacts and Bithdays. There actually is not an option on my LGG3 calendar to sync the phone calendar, but on my third party app there is, and it instantly fixed my problem. So simple. Why didnt i think of this?!

Mine crashes when I try to select what type of phone it is. if there are multiple phones listed only the top one crashes the contacts app.
update
I even tried to copy the first number and added it back then deleted the first number. when i tried to change the type on the top number it crashed again.
I can assume something is taking hold of the first entry of the contact and causing the app to crash.

I had the Force Fastscroll Xposed Module running and I had selected Contacts.
I turned off Contacts in the Force Fastscroll settings and my Contacts app didn't crash when I selected the Phone type.
I am having this problem now also. Whenever I go to edit a contact, it crashes. I have tried a couple of contact apps, and all do the same thing.
Can you explain how you made the changes to stop this from happening?

I done that too, and I enabled large picture under the 'display contacts picture' setting. still no luck
in that case its probably an issue with handcent, itll probably get updated soon so keep your eyes open you can always leave a comment on the market?

I have my contact sync'd from Google and Facebook for HTC Sense on my HTC Incredible. Any SMS or MMS message I receive will show the contact image except the 10 or so contacts that I have in my Google Talk list. I have tried "un-linking" them but it didn't correct the problem. The same thing is happening in the original Messages application so that is why I am questioning the cause being associated with Handcent.
Any other thoughts about this?
I'm having the same issue. I recall I fixed this once by going into the contacts application and clearing the data. Everything synced up again.
OR perhaps I just uninstalled Facebook for HTC Sense and reinstalled it..I can't remember. Damn.
Yep..uninstalled FB from syncing, and reinstalled..takes a while..but they are all back in hancent.
The facebook pictures for my contacts used to show up on the stock messaging app, but after restoring a nandroid it doesn't anymore. This is also the case with other messaging apps, so I don't think it's related to the app.
Is there any way I can make messaging apps show contact pictures again? (the contact pictures are still there btw - checked the dialer)
Have you checked if your FB account is still linked and set to sync? If yes, try removing & re-adding it. If all else fails, try linking contacts manually.

You could also check your accounts and make sure that the facebook sync is turned on etc. I'm just throwing ideas out by the way, I'm not really sure lol.

Ah, I didn't try the obvious one. The account was still linked and was set to sync, but I deleted and re-added my facebook account and now it's working.

I'm having this "odd" problem too.. however I do have facebook sync-ed (similar to leventmann i guess)
The problem appears to be that the messaging app thinks the contact comes from the SIM (thus lack of profile pics).
Short of deleting the contact form SIM, i've managed to 'trick' the phone into using the facebook/google contact by fiddling around with area codes.
However, whenever I have the contact pic, I then get this "ugly" extra (M <mobile numb>) appended to the name:

Which I guess is 'ok', but it just takes up so much space in the message itself (even more so with the new Sense 3.0 messages having an iPhone-like look with messages being left/right speech bubbles)
At first I thought it was because the contact had 2 mobiles associated with the account, so removed (unlinked) one of the mobiles, but problem still exists.
Any ideas on how to keep the contact pic but remove (M xxxxx) ?
Also, is there a way to get the original htc messaging style back? (Sort of like the one you see if you go to "Persons -> <contact> -> Messages"; a basic list of the messages where sender/recipient avatars are on the left...)

When I was using SGBS ROM the pics weren't all pixelated.. anyone else have this problem?

Small update...I've noticed something that may be part of the cause of my problems... in the "People" application the SIM numbers/contacts are not shown (I chose to not view them). However, when I open 'Phone' (to dial someone) I see the SIM numbers/contacts!!!
I vaguely remember seeing this in another thread (shall go digging for it later) but wondering if anyone reading this thread knows how to fix it?

I have changed my ROM from Starburst Froyo to Cool VisionS and i can see my own profile picture now after creating a Google profile with picture.
However now i have this problem above. Pictures are pixelated and i am not sure if it is because of ROM. Another suspicious point is : Before i had "Facebook for HTC Sense" in the settings for syncronization but now in this ROM i have only "Facebook" to syncronize. Do you think it can be related to one of these reasons?
Yes, i found the solution for pixelation problem (at least for my situation)
When i tried to add account for syncronization (under settings - accounts&syncronization) i noticed that there is also "Facebook for HTC Sense" which requires another login process.
Use this account for syncronization and remove simply "Facebook".
It fixed pixelation problem
That did indeed fix the pixelated picture problem for me as well.
The pictures for my contacts in the messaging app are missing though, aside from the few that I have setup to use a picture on my SD card.

I've tried to save my own number to contacts and linked it to my own facebook, but the pic just wont show up? I'm using CM-3.7 rom.
I am experiencing the same issue under stock 2.3.3, from time to time (in a SMS thread, my contact's picture is shown as default). The only solution i've found for this is to open my contact's details and re-add my custom picture.
I can't even find my own contact profile from the phone? Is this someting to do with CM-3.7 ROM or am I just blind? In the stock ROM, it was first at the contactbook, but after I installed the ROM I haven't seen it anymore.

I am assuming something is resetting them. It was happening before I installed Advanced Task Killer and is continuing after so I don't think that something is getting closed because of ATK which is causing the issue....Any suggestions/help/advice? Curious...I wonder if an auto-sync of GMail contacts will reset the widget. If your contacts are constantly syncing, it could disrupt / reset the feed to the Buddies widget, essentially making you reassign each time your contacts update automatically.
Test that and see, just remove contact sync as auto and see what happens. Worth a stab
I hadn't noticed this.... then I read this thread and within 30 minutes it happened... just my luck

I'm going to try that now...lets see if that helps...I also have launcher pro already set up the way I like it but haven't set it as default yet...hopefully the issue can be resolved so I won't have to change but no big deal if I have to
Even after Unchecking sync for contacts and assigning each widget a contact around 815PM tonight most of the widgets have lost their assigned contact and now are blank.
Yep happened to me too.
I am just using direct dial shortcuts for now, that widget is way too unreliable.

I have been some serious issues with this and need some assistance.
A little background. My college (who also has a rooted EVO 4G) asked me 1 day if my "people" app kept force closing. At the time we both had the Synergy ROM. And my people app was working perfectly.
The day after my "people" app started to force close randomly and whenever I opened it. I thought nothing of it until I really needed to get into it. So I decided I was going to wipe and flash a new ROM. So I flashed MikG 2.58 and everything was fine for a day. Then day 2 of the new ROM Google asked me to sync some Google contacts with Google contacts. (I did not sync Facebook yet) Every since then it Force Closes.
Is it possible to wipe all the contact syncs I have done on my phone. I really don't want to reflash.....
Settings > Accounts & Sync > click on your gmail account > Uncheck "Sync Contacts" option

I am trying it right now. I knew it was going to be something simple that I overlooked.
Does this reset all Google Synced contacts or just stop further syncing?
as far as I know all it does is stop further syncing. If you want the contacts to not be displayed then
1. go to your contacts
2.hit menu button
3. select "Display Option"
4. Under the header "Choose Contacts to Display" you select your Google account
5. Uncheck all of the boxes
6. Minimize Google account window and then select the Facebook account
7. Uncheck all of the boxes
8. Minimize Facebook account window and press "Done."
That should remove all of your accounts from view. This is at least how it's done on my phone. Your phone may, or may not, have the same ability and process.
If you want all of your contacts deleted from your phone then I think you'll just have to go through and manually delete them all.

Well I am not sure either, but People has stopped Force Closing. I was assuming it was a corrupted contact that was there, but I went back and "resynced" and its working fine now. I greatly appreciate it sir!

Hey dude check this thread out. It looks like what you should be looking for is called htccontacts.apk. Not people.apk. The linked thread is for the apk with inverted colors (for a darker color scheme) but should work just fine. Let me know if that is what you are needing.

so it's neccessary to delete contact-storage data and google account manager to fix this problem but after create a new contact this error come back. i found out only with stock app is it possible to create a new contact and sync with google account without problems. modify or delete a contact in go contacts ex app is always possible without a sync error.
have anyone else this problem and if so what is the solution? is there a solution? to fix this behavior temporary i create a new contact in stock app.

i have the same problem , could it have anything to do with the fact that FB changed everybody's email address to a @facebook.com ?
I had same problem after putting ICS 8.3 , but i used .vcf on my sd card. I just copied contact.apk back on system/app and install it again. And now i have all my contacts back and running

I too had this problem on a Galaxy S3. Every time I added or removed a contact in Go Contacts it broke the Google contact sync. I replaced Go Contacts with ContApps and the problem went away.

Just use Friendcaster and problem is solved...
Just found this thread via Google. I'm running CyanogenMod 9 on a Samsung Rugby Smart, but I think I found a work-around. I removed the default setting I had applied to Go Contacts, went into the regular contacts, and then went into Sync and manually synced my contacts. I think it worked, but verification would be great.
I have the exact same problem and my solution was to just stop using Go Contacts EX. I tried deleting my google account and readding it, only to find my newest contacts gone. I got tired of trying to figure out why it didn't work and decided I could go without Go Contacts EX. Not the best solution, but at least my contacts sync between my phone and google now.

I have just realised today, after about 3 weeks, and after some testing, that Go Contacts Ex breaks my contact syncing for my Google account. Once broken the only way I found to fix it is to uninstall it, remove and then re-add my Gmail account. I like the product but backing up my contacts is more important.

You also have an option to automatically check contacts error when phone is powdered ON

This is an issue well known from go team as it has been reported many time.
I don't understand why they don't fix it.
Many users stop using this nice app just because of this issue
