Aux cable problem - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I plugged my aux cable from car radio into my g3 today but the music just plays from the phone speaker. When i plug the cable in nothing happens ? Anybody else had this ?

Yes. Same happens with my bose headset but on everything else it's ok

LG G3 aux problem
Just bought myself an LG G3. Got the same problem. My phone works works fine when i plug in my headset, but it just wont work when i plug it into my aux in my car. The sound just comes out of the phone speakers. I just dont see the difference between headset output and car output, signal should be exactly the same?
Anyone found a solution to this problem? Or is it just me overlooking a menu or something?
Thx!

Well I bought a different more expensive aux cable from maplins today and it now works in my car ! Looks like the g3 is fussy with what leads it wants plugging in!

hmm!
Hmm! Guess ill have to try haha :3 Thanks tho

Similar issue playing music in the car
I have a similar issue with the 3.5mm audio jack cable in the car.
Although i have tried a couple of cables and they do produce audio out of the speakers, I have a nasty problem whenever there is a gap between tracks, or when listening to radio if I pause it for more than 1 second.
It's as if the LG is cutting the power to the aux cable, so that when the music is restarted, or more annoyingly of all after EVERY song when played straight from the device, there is a nasty distorted feedback coming from the left speaker.....
Surely this is related to what the folks are saying over here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/hissing-noise-left-ear-playing-music-t2804065
It never happened in my car with my Galaxy S4 or my Galaxy Note before that.
I'm seriously considering returning the handset as this noise is just not bearable - it's getting near a deal breaker for me.
edit: should have mentioned it also happens when an incoming call ends, the music cuts back in with a big old distortion/feedback.

Same issue here
this phone has way too many issues.
Aux issue
Chromecast issue
laggy ui & animations
knock code - issue when phone in pocket

I'm seriously considering getting a HTC one or Nexus 5..

That's why I'm hoping for the boot loader to be unlocked soon as the G3 has awesome potential. I do love the phone but there are lots of bugs at the moment. Hoping LG fix them soon

The chromecast is simply a resolution issue which will be fixed in a future update, the G2 had the same issue when that was first released.
I have had no AUX or headphone issues with this device, its simply down to the quality of the products you are all using.
Knock code is an odd one, most people have not had any problems in the pockets, there is a chance that you have a hyper sensitive screen, which is a hardware issue - hardware issues can happen to anyone at any time with any device, you could easily buy a HTC or nexus with an issue (actually Nexus devices, whilst great, are the devices I have had the most problems with in terms of hardware faults, its the luck of the draw).
Battery not great is a very weak one, sure it might not be as good as some other phones out there, but its certainly on par, if not better than maybe 98% of other android devices including many that are "this gen".
Now laggy UI, most phones, including flagship devices are laggy when first released, the S5 took two OTA's before the lag was addressed, the HTC One M8 was ok, but the M7 was pretty damn laggy when that was released. The lag will most likely be fixed in a future OTA, and if you cannot wait, removing bloat (including LG apps you don't use) will remove almost (if not all) lag right now.

Nexus 5 is LG remember, so careful with that statement haha - Build quality is lower also. Having had the Nexus 5 I had zero issues with it, same with my HTC One M8. And now I have zero issues with my G3.

I had no problem with the EXACT same setup on my S4 and NOTE - In fact I still have my S4 and plugged it back in to enjoy perfect audio with no distortion in between tracks or booming left speaker when resuming from phone calls so the only "quality" issue is with the G3 at the moment!
I've emailed LG, I'm on holiday next week so I'll give them till I get back to give me some sort of answer or it's going back.

Got the same issue on my LG g3. Sometimes it worked for hours but then its stopping to work even if I restart the phone

So me and another individual have a similar issue. We have tried 3 different aux cables, 1 pair of headphones between 3 cars. The thing that we notice is my G3 works fine across, all cables, headphones and in my car, but has troubles with his or his girlfriends. While my friend's G3 works fine with his headphones and works fine with the 3 cables in my car but not his car. We also tried his girlfriends car same auto maker and it also has problems. But in the case of her S4, it works with everything.
The one thing that we did notice is that sometimes when plugging in the aux cable with nothing on the other end it flashes headphones and then after replugging it in, it would flash aux. On the other hand my G3 has only flashed aux or headphones with the appropriate device.
I am just really concerned with this being a hardware design flaw or an actual software problem.

Just wanted to chime in and say I'm also having this issue. On the way home from work with my awesome new phone and it doesn't work with what I want to do. Very disappointing. Hope it's something that can be fixed.

Well I am still waiting for LG to get to me. In the meantime I have a replacement handset on the way from Amazon.de, but it doesn't sound good.
I have now tried the phone on 5 different external sources with a myriad of cables, 2 of which were round at my mates and the results were exactly the same, a feedback/distortion as if its a guitar being hot plugged from an amp in between every bloody track change!
If the problem is still there with the replacement I gotta say I'm out and I'll stick with my S4 for now Or maybe track down a Note 3 for cheap somewhere. I just got used to the big handset again (I had an original Note and man was that big, lol!).

Not a g3 owner but just browsing as really want 1. But I had problems with aux cables then changing phones for some reason I found that if you look at the end of the 3.5 pin you will notice 3 rings or 2 rings of like black plastic on my HTC one max my headphones have 3 rings and when I tried an aux lead with 3 rings it would not play through car speakers only phone speakers yet when I use one with 2 rings it's fine... Give it a try

Just checked the two leads I have in the car, both have 2 rings, but I can hear the audio just perfectly, it's only when the music stops and restarts that I get the "hot plug" effect for a second.
Good tip though, and if I can track down a 3 ring one I'll see if it improves any, but I'm not going to jump through hoops (so to speak ) - If the replacement handset that's coming doesn't improve matters then my experiment with LG will be over - this issue has never affected the other two phones I have had in the same car/same AV amp/same bluetooth speaker with the same cables.
Also as I said elsewhere, the call quality on 2G is atrocious. Hopefully I just have a duffer, but my hopes are not high.

Anyone who had this problem did tried with a NON-STOCK FIRMWARE?
So we can understand if is hardware or software, a cyanogenmod would be great for this purpose.

I have found LG shocking when you need help. I have asked them lots of times on twitter for either help or answers to questions and they ignore you and just reply to people giving them credit

The phone doesn't always recognize the AUX, and sometimes it loses the aux connection after a while... don't know what to think about.
I don't want to change from ART do dalvik again, but do you guys think should be that?

there ya go
just ordered from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RU8YMY
the one on ebay have the key chain hole , which is pretty cool .
Javoedge one is reliable ( well, the brand ) but the shape is kinda bulky. with a lil mod , I can make it stick to a key chain.
In the end, I think both of them are from China anyway. So I properly go for the one on ebay.
Luckily I didn't bought the USB adapter with the lead from the German Amazon recently,
the small USB adapter is exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks for the heads up.
Does the lead-less adapter work with the HTC Touch?
I ordered the one with lead with my HTC touch cruise. It's amazing how someone could come up with such a stupid design. The bend on the connector only has a slight purpose if you use a a belt-clip holster or something. I use the sleeve that came with the phone and have it in my pocket. I obviously got a bad connection just beside the usb plug, due to the ridiculous stress on the cord. The cord is even thinner than usual just to ensure that it goes straight to ****s upon first use. In addition it causes unnecessary strain on the usb-connector in the phone. I see that's also the case with the one without lead.
The reason for me to bump this thread, other than venting my frustration, is to ask if anyone have tried to solder on a mini-jack-plug to the headset that came with your phone? The earplugs are so ****ty than that even my grandmother would complain, and she's deaf. In other words I have no problem in experimenting with them. What I'm worried about is that someone told me that if the head set I'm going to use pulls more power than the old ear plugs, that may cause the usb-connector to malfunction. Or worse, the phone. Now that's something I'm not willing to experiment with, so I'm wondering if this is something that others have tried, or if someone can give me a 110% assurance that my phone won't suffer if I try?
headphones
Hello,
of course I can not give you a guarantee your phone won't suffer, but I don't see one reason why it should do: You can buy original HTC adapters for plugging in whatever earphones, so why shouldn't you be able to use the original cord for that purpose? I did this with my original wallaby headphones, only I didn't solder a 3.5mm jack but the "speakers" of other earphones. It worked well. At my Orbit I use the W100 remote together with Sennheiser MX 550 earphones, which sound great!
Matzix
PS: If you need some earphones to experiment, I can give my apple-earphones to you, which came with my 4G-ipod! It's incomprehensible, why an audio device comes with such rubbish...
Can I have your headphones to experiment? I'd love to deprive open those suckers and expermient lol.

Maybe this is what you need...
Anyways I have been making these for awhile now and sold quite a few to people I know, Craigs List and forums. I actually bought quantities and Im starting to Ebay them. I'll also have different brands of buds offered. The current headset is very capable and in fact looks very stylish.
Anyways so yes you can solder other buds to the original headset though you can destroy both if you dont know what are you doing.
Later.
i got one off ebay last week. it works great. cant wait to use it on the airplane and watch some movies!!!

Yeah, I'm thinking that too. If anything is going to suffer it would be the amplifier in the remote. I'm definately going to try now. Not going to mess up my headset in any case, I'll just attach the mini-jack plug.

Hehe, thanks a lot, but I've got more crappy earphones bundled with whatever device than I've got fingers. I just don't get why HTC or whoever could just add that extra 30$ for halfway decent earphones. If anything they just lower the overall impression of their device.

I have no doubt they do, but I think I'll still prefer my bose noise canceling headset over them.
Also the option to switch to ear-buds at times when that's necessary. How about adding one with a mini-jack plug to your inventory? I think that could be a potential winner.
Anyways so yes you can solder other buds to the original headset though you can destroy both if you dont know what are you doing.

Hehe, I don't have a degree or anything, but I think I can manage to solder left to left and right to right. Not exactly rocket science that. I'll leave enough cord to have a couple of trial and errors even. And as I mentioned above, I won't touch the headset. The mini-jack adapter is messed up anyway (It lasted for a full three hours. )and I really couldn't care less for the bundled ear-buds.
haha i wasnt saying its a rocket science but it could indeed be a pain. i like you plan about leaving the extra cord anyways the Skullcandy headphones i work with are also noice canceling and sound mindblowing when paired with decent player and eqalizer. of course i prefer my Vmodas but this headset gives me the comfort of caring something not that expencive that sounds great and allows me not to carry an arsenal of headphones, headsets, adapters and etc. its nice to be able to pick up the phone while enjoying some music and dont have to disconect everything.
good luck.
does anyone know if this works on a 6700? My headphone jack broke and if this could be an alternative it would be alot cheaper then having the headphone jack repaired
Actually kinda thinking this might work good in my truck. Using the phone to stream some of the hard to find ol' school funk from various websites while being able to keep my phone charged. Since I already have the bluetooth unit in my stereo system (Pioneer AVIC-Z2) it would mute the music and apply the phone call through the truck's stereo system. Which would alleviate having to unplug the adapter and fumble to answer the phone all while adhering to the new California cell phone laws that are coming into effect on July 1st. Has anyone tried this?
re: USB to 3.5mm adapter
Hi guys i got this from ebay, it's not listed as working with Niki /touch plus but it works fine and has a hands free built in too. Will probably work with most 11 pin mini USB ports, MDA etc.... Only £4.90 inc postage, great device!!
Oh i forgot, has the answer/end call button built in too and you can use any 3.5mm headphones so you can dump the rubbish ones that HTC ship.

Sound on right ear.

Hello everyone, Im new to the Blue Angel but ever I since I discovered the o2 xda ii's I fell in love. Therefore I didn't rest until I got my hands on one. It finally arrived today (bought it on ebay). Everything seems to be working like a charm except for one thing, when I insert the qtek s110 headphones, or use a bandridge audio adapt from 2.5 to 3.5 I only have sound on the right ear. Is this device output mono only? Thanks
NOP
the default earphone for this device has both I mean Stereo sound but it has a special config... I lost them so I dont know which combination is... on ebay i saw an adapter 2.5 3 test points on the plug maybe those works but I cant find anyone that works... truth is stereo.

It should be in stereo. Check out the plug that you have it should have four divisions on it...

or push it a lil' bit harder maybe it's just loose.
i experienced the same, because i also have a normal cheap store bought adaptor, which only has 2 of those black rings, because, of course it was not supposed to hand through mic+stereo. additionally, most of the usual adaptors are a little to thick around the end of the plug so conflicting with the blueangel's case.
in explanation, using red_hanks picture:
the plug is devided into 4 regions in this case, which is one more, than in a normal audio out 2.5 or 3.5 because of the microphone.
if i am not mistaking (i had very little time to look this up) from left to right it is:
earth, mic, left, right
whereas on a three poled 2.5 or 3.5 it would be:
earth, left, right
which lets me come to the conclusion, that being fully plugged in, your left ear contact is, where the mic signal should go in and what you hear on the right ear, is actually the left ear signal, the right ear signal is not transmitted at all, because of the missing pole, meaning, instead of jamming it even further in, you should rather pull it out a tiny little bit, and both channels should work, or you go and buy an adaptor like the one in the picture, where there is 4 poles and then, using a normal 3-poled earphone, your earphone doesn't get in contact with the mic channel, so you probably can't make phone calls with it, but listening to music and watching tv should be fine
Chef_Tony
Well explained Chef_Tony
hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice audio plug wiki
jejeje
BTW Red does you have already this function properly? or you dont use earphones on the BA?
I was trying a lot of adapters and none works...
I don't use the headset that came with the BA to make calls if I am driving, I use my BT headset. If I am watching movies on my BA I use an adapter same on that picture and a Pioneer earphone
so you have an adapter... does you got stereo sound? were did you bough your adapter....? men really i want one... i will pay 5 dlls for one and the shipping too.
Where can i get an adapter like this? Thanks for the explanation... People here are nicer than in the kaiser forum where they crucificate you for not knowing things from the beginning. Today, after sleeping over the issue of not being able to instal the wm6.1 I finally got it. And now Im running it with manilla and everything. I really like this BA ^^ Now all Im missing is that adaptor. Tried to find it on ebay but with no success
on kaiser M$ still develops i think well wm6.1 was ported from it... and many great developers are there so for now is a high brain thread.
here... we all supports this device the oldest but alive!! jejeje
i cant find on ebay well there is some i found two one in USA cant shipp world wide and other in china jejeje cheap at least 3dlls.
I just bought it here in a local store. Yes, stereo sound.

yes, it will (take into consideration red's observation tho )
basically, adapter's purpose is merely to reduce or to enlarge the diameter of the plug (male-female), others are designed to split the signal, (i.e. mono-stereo). In the particular case as shown in the picture, the pin setup or pole configuration remain the same so there is no doubt that it would work, otherwise, the problem is not the adapter but probably the headset or the unit itself. to determine which one, que's suggestion is in place..
Using a multimeter, set it to resistance reading or continuity test mode. put one of its probe to earth's pole/terminal of your headphone and the other probe to the left and right poles. in both instances, there must be a continuity or little resistance reading. if you are using a digital tester with buzzer that was set to continuity test mode, you will hear a continuing sound or beep. if analog tester and the same was set to resistance (1ohm to 10kohm range) you will hear a click sound in the speakers, all are indications that your headphone is perfectly well. the bad news is, if that will be the case, the culprit could be the unit...
wait....... connect the adapter to your headphone and follow the above procedures. if no reading or sound in the speaker channels (left or right), rejoice, the problem is certainly with the continuity of signal from your headphone's plug to adapter, otherwise, it is the unit that you should check...
but don't lose hope yet .. in many instances, pda's terminals and jacks including the headphone/mic jack, just like any other electronic gadgets, accumulates dirt that requires proper cleaning without which it could affect its performance that sometimes you would hear no sound at all. if that is the scenario, use a good contact cleaner like deoxite (also used in volume/potentiometers of audio amplifiers to remove annoying clicking sound or noise). spray a little and then repeatedly plug in and out the adapter into your pda jack, 3 or 4 times will do. thereafter, wait a little time to dry the cleaner before testing the unit. repeat the procedure if no positive result in you attempts.
if to no avail after performing the foregoing procedures, too bad, that's the proper time for you to worry since opening the unit and performing a hardware repair is not an easy task. you need good repair techie to do that...
BTW, the above procedures are being given under the presumption that your unit has no ROM or software problem that would affect the performance of its audio circuit.... i hope i was able to enlighten a little.. cheers and regards...

Car System with NOTE

I want to make the beast (aka note) the centre of entertainment/info in my car.
The problem: My car has no aux input.
Solution: FM Transmitter.
Now I tried a few cheapo fm transmitters, and they all had horrible sound connection. The transmission was fine but something was wrong. I pretty much gave up on this idea until I tried my brother's fm transmitter. It was crystal, however it had long cables which dangled over the driver -not ideal. Also, his one was from a good company and cost $120 -yikes.
Anyways, just the other day I saw my friends set-up. All he had was this:

Which can be bought off ebay for ~$15, or even cheaper from other sources.
It is the perfect companion, since the rigid arm holds the phone just firm enough. It cleanly connects to fm. And charges it simultaneously.
Here's one for example: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FM-Trans...Accessories&hash=item20c69cb619#ht_3654wt_905
After looking for it for many hours, I can't find a suitable one for androids.
For once, I am jelly over Apple's monopoly of its proprietary connector.
Any good solutions you guys know of?
Why would you bother, just buy radio with aux and a stand.

Wow, this was your first post on xda, I'm honored.
The thing is, I'm not planning on keeping this car for too many years... so a new head-unit will be a little pointless and expensive. Another thing, there is a separate display unit which pairs with the headunit...so removing it will stuff that up (which is handy for quick time and temperature).
It plays CD's but I don't have any cd's...they're all digital media.
I know I'm not the only one with an Android phone who has this problem, so a solution is out there.
Anyways, I found these solutions on ebay:
1) Bought, tested, its useless. Cables float everywhere. Costs ~$5.
Picture: http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab314/youkeshu/youkeshu-7/AA404_5-ALL.jpg
2)Then I found this one, costs ~$11, also suffers from the same noise distortion. Again cables galore!
Picture: http://cdn1.sellerimage.com/cdn2/120802/9e/78/f4/fmt-uni023_1_cc.jpg
3) I found this. Its just like the first crappy one. This one I haven't bought and tested, it may actually work well. But again cables galore!
Picture: http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/ebay510/home and garden/CBA00031-1.jpg
4) Okay I found this a working solution. The seller contacted me said it doesn't have the noise problem like the other options and backs it up with a full refund. Sad part is it costs ~$45...and what makes it worse is that the cables are still hanging about but at least not as much as the solutions prior to this.
Picture: http://gomadic.us/imgs-prod/fmt/samsung-galaxy-2-car-auto-charger-fm-transmitter.jpg
I finally found a (2yo?) thread in Google where they were discussing the same thing for the original Droid.
Anyways, I found a link to it on Amazon but it was discontinued.
Luckily enough, it was "related" to another product which led me to find this:
http://www.amazon.com/GOgroove-Flex...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1339419456&sr=1-39
Same as the iPhone dock, only costs double the price. Instead of Apple connector, its a microUSB.
edit:
Hold on, found this. Same product (moreless) but $18
http://www.amazon.com/Accessory-Pow...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1339419702&sr=1-19
edit:
Okay now its pouring in, found an even cheaper one ($13) lol.
http://www.amazon.com/GSI-Dock-Moun...-Smartphones/dp/B004006L7W/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_2
Okay, so there was more to this story than I thought. Wondering how I couldn't find any in the sea of thousands of other (mostly iphone) fm transmitters.
Anyways, back on ebay and finally found this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/17083475...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_3398wt_1270
Same as the other ones (~$20) but ships Internationally so anyone can get a hold of it.
It looks to be too small to fit the beast, and the seller hasn't responded back to my message.
But another seller has.
And no, the clamps maximum width is 80mm. We need at least 83mm, or ~90mm (comfortably) to clamp the note. But I have good news from the seller:
"But we will list another item which will fit for your Samsung NOTE,
Please come back to our shop 10 days later,or I can notice you when we list the item."
"Ok,I will let you know when we get new model.
Please don't worry,we have professional Technician?"
I'll keep this thread updated once I get my hands on it.
(ps I broke my windshield mount the other day, so hopefully 2-angry-birds-1-stone)
just to let u know, transmitters/holders that plugs into the cigarette lighter last a week max.
once the rubber that that goes into the cigarette light wears out, its all over, it wont stay up.

Thanks for the input.
I'm going to try anyway and give a review. It shouldn't cost much $15-$30 so the burden wouldn't be great.
And if it does fall apart, I'm planning on modifying it so it becomes a windshield mount.
That way I can have eyes on the road, and glanceable navigation... while having music from car speakers and hands-free phone function. The Ultimate Road Warrior! xD
this is what i would do if i werent to invest in a head unit.
www.firesport.com.au, buy a 2nd hand amp for cheap.
connect the amp to speakers.
connect the note directly to amp via cheapo 3.5mm to aux cable.
sound quality will be 10x better than transmitter lol.
migrate amp to next car

Thanks.
Of course the advantage of the ebay item is that its too easy to setup and can work in literally all cars. And the unit is still purposeful even if the fm isn't transmitting (ie phone holder + charger).
And you will definitely get x10 better sound via a wired solution.
I'm tempted to try both methods, not much to lose.
For now I just have to wait and see the item description when its up and report back.
The problem is the head unit in some cars, such as mine, are built in and cannot actually be changed our it's a big job. I was still using my Nokia N8 for music duties untill last week as it has a transmitter built in, but I've just gotten a Belkin from Amazon and it's superb. Still has to be plugged into the cigarette lighter but I don't mind that.

If you're into a bit of soldering, I have successfully added aux into older cassette deck stereos and my DAB stereo clock radio.
Basically, you open up the head unit/radio, google the chip numbers, find a datasheet. Only one of them will be some kind of mixer/preamp/processing chip. Find the pins that are the input L/R and ground. Then solder a 3.5mm stereo lead in. Close it up, plug in your phone, hey presto, AUX in! And better than any FM transmitter.
On the cassette radio, I just wired in to the cassette audio input and disconnected the tape motors. On my clock radio, I added a 2 pole 2 way switch to toggle between the tuner input and my phone. Later I'll add a bluetooth input to get rid of the slight noise hum when my phone is charging.
I bought one,but broken one.

Which one?
Can you link it for us.
I got a response from another seller, and one from local. They won't be getting it.
Its been 6 days since I received the email from one seller who said they will get NOTE compatible models (hopefully 90mm wide, so NOTE with case can also fit).
So there's another 4 days until he will respond back to me with the link, and then probably a week or two until I can test it.
Getting excited!
I know you said you wouldnt be keeping this car long but imho you would be much better served changing your head unit to one with bluetooth. You can find used ones in great condition shipped on ebay for$100. Installation time is under an hour. Trust me its worth it. My head (eclipse cd5030) automatically connects to my phone as soon as i start the car. No wires, just press play. And also, it has a usb plug for charging it.

That's a good idea.
My options seem to be:
-FM transmitter/dock
-Change head unit for Bluetooth (break the overhead display and car cpu though)
-Change head unit for AUX in (break the overhead display and car cpu though)
-Install a low-powered/cheap amplifier with an AUX in.
Here's the inside of my car (though not so new, heh):
The head unit (ie CD slot and music controls) is located in the middle of the centre-console.
The actual display for it is displayed higher up on the centre-console.
The display is also wired into the car, if the engine runs out of power for a second, it locks and needs the password. Same thing if I jump start someone.
If I can install a new head-unit without stuffing up the relay going between the display and car cpu, I'd be all set... I wished I was more experienced in this field
Anyways, I've already decided on my next car, so I better start saving now:
I may be wrong buddy but i believe that your stock equipment is set up for an optional CD changer from the factory so there will be an option for an auxiliary input..
What you need to do is call an aftermarket car audio supplier and ask about a 3rd party wiring loom, more than likely they will have a plug in solution for it..

I agree with that,
Kangal,
Most of the car stereos have port to get AUX out behind. An audio shop can use this to get a 3.5 mm female port
A new quality brand like pioneer car stereo with aux on the front is about $45 NZ these days. Problem solved. And you never know your stereo may have line in in the back you could use.

I have the same problem as you.
My solution requires the following equipment :
1. Jabra SB600 car hands free
2. Original Samsung car dock for Note.
You basically pair your Note with Jabra via bluetooth and the Jabra transmits the audio via FM to your car radio. Simple, clean, no wire solution. Music and calls play via your car speakers and the Jabra's DSP does a fantastic job to cut out ambient noise in a moving car.
The sound quality is decent. Probably not the very best, but bearable. And more importantly, it gets the task done without any extra wires and stuff. Consider it a trade-off between ripping out / modding your car stereo and making no changes at all.
Though the Jabra's price may be a bit steep, it is a better bet if you consider it against replacing your stereo or spending the time (and taking the risk) on modding it.

I'm assuming that not a whole lot of people here are really into cars. I am really into modding my car and one aspect of that is audio. I love car audio and have a moderately nice system in my car. I can say that if you're looking for a good way to integrate your phone as your main source of media, then perhaps a new head unit would be a great upgrade for both your media and for your car.
Some people may be on a tight budget, and if so then the previously mentioned solutions may be the only options viable to you, but if you are willing to branch out and see what you can do with your ICE (in car entertainment), then you may find something that you might want to invest in.
So what are the options? You can use a wired fm transmitter, and as people have mentioned, you're dealing with wires and such. You also have wireless fm transmitters, which eliminates your wiring, and your results don't stray far from the wired transmitters in terms of sound quality. If you're willing to upgrade your headunit, then you have two options, single dins which is the base tier headunit. It has most, if not all, of the features your stock headunit has, and a few extras. If it is equipped with bluetooth, you can send/make calls from the headunit, but most single dins don't solve your audio needs in this way. What you want to look for is if it equipped with USB, so you can connect your phone via USB and play your music that way. Yes it does involve wiring, but there have been many ways to tie in a nice docking station for your phone to really make it appealing to many users. Double dins are almost always touchscreen type headunits and are a great way to upgrade your system. They have many more features that single dins will not have, such as GPS, movie viewing, etc. These types of headunits will follow single dins in that you will be wiring your phone via USB to source your music. I think there may be some double dins that are capable of bluetooth audio but I am not totally sure as mine does not have that feature as a 2011 model from Alpine.
W W W[dot]thebizzy[dot]com/technical_pages/thebizzy/audio/ipod2.jpg
Here is an example of how many users like to mount their phones/ipods/etc.
I will say that the benefit of a wired connection over a fm transmitted connection is that the sound quality is so much better. Music is much more crisp and clean with none of that distortion. Granted your overall sound quality will be determined by the quality of your speakers, but the differences from a USB connection and an fm transmitted connection are really noticeable.
So think about what your budget is and what you really want in your car audio system/integration. I went with a double din because the features are just spectacular. I do want to note though, that a headunit does not make your car system sound better, you need to upgrade your speakers, amps, subwoofers, etc. The main purpose for a new headunit is features. For me, I went with the double din because of benefits such as GPS, bluetooth (syncs my entire phonebook so I can just search for people whom I need to contact, shows recent call logs, auto answering for incoming calls), better interface when selecting music (it can utilize the entire interface of the ipod giving me access to movies, artists, playlists, genres, etc.), and overall ease of use.
So to conclude I'd recommend you find out what you want, and what your budget is, and start a project because my daily commute is worlds better than what it used to be because I made my upgrade happen. If you have any questions about ICE then feel free to ask.

Headphones and in-call audio issues

Not sure if it had anything to do with the update, but I have been power cycling my phone a lot lately...
Headphones: My headphones don't seem to be registering that they're in, so the sound comes through the speakers--but the headphones work when plugged into other devices. (I have picked up a pair of bluetooth headphones until I figure it out, which work fine.) After power cycling the headphones work again for a while somehow, but will randomly stop again, so it must be a software issue. It could have to do with being unplugged while audio is going?? Not sure
In-call: I can't hear the other person, but they can hear me. If I switch to speaker phone, I can hear them (not sure if they can hear me while on speakers, they usually hang up by the time I realize they are really there but I can't hear them...) It's so weird. I have to say, "I can't hear you, I'll reset my phone and call you back in a minute".
Anybody else with this problem???
I've been struggling with the same problem on 3 different Fire Phones. All phones are running Fire OS 4.6.3. I discovered this problem after plugging into my car stereo via the 1/8" audio jack. If not immediately, shortly after disconnecting the cable I would be unable to hear the party on the other end during a phone calls, though they could hear me. I also found that the jack would no longer switch from Speaker to Wired audio and vice versa when I plugged a cable into and out of the 1/8" audio jack.
It looks to be an OS issue as the problem is remedied by a restart. I am really curious if I happened to get 3 lemons or if anyone else experiences this. If this is an issue with Fire OS, have so few people used the audio jack? I am tempted to install Cyanogenmod to see if this remedies the problem, though I would expect this sort of issue to occur with Cyanogenmod as opposed to the stock FireOS install.
Thanks for letting me know there is someone else out there with the same issue. I hate thinking I'm the only one!
BTW alexandergrig did you get a warranty replacement for them or you just bought 3 when they were on sale or something?? I am thinking of trying to replace it on warranty, since the issue is new-- it just started a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't experience the headphone/call "mute" issue throughout most of the life of the phone. The other thing that I don't get is why it won't let me take a video--it stops after 1 second (also a recent issue).
The phones were not on warranty replacement but rather purchased new. How long had you been using your phone without issue? What version of FireOS are you currently on? Have you side loaded Google Play?
Today, for example, I had no issue with plugging headphones in and removing them. I later plugged the phone to my car stereo via mini-jack and had no issues playing music or placing and receiving calls (using the speakerphone) while it was plugged in. When I unplugged it, I was able to make calls. Later when I plugged the phone into my car stereo again, I had the same problem. Basically all the audio was being routed to the speaker and not the audio jack. No matter how many times I plugged and unplugged the cable, no audio was being sent through the audio jack.
I also happened to try the Soundabout app on the Google Play store, thinking that perhaps the audio was not being routed properly. Unfortunately, when I forced the output to the "wired" audio jack, at best I would hear some popping noises. All this gets resolved with a restart, however inconvenient that may be.
I find it hard to believe that the 3 phones I have worked on all happen to be lemons, though I guess it's possible. I wish I could get some feedback from others to determine if they are having any such issues. Like I said before, this is something that you might expect from a custom ROM not a stock OS install. I'm not sure how much of a pain making an Amazon warranty claim would be. If you opt for this, I would appreciate it if you could let me know how this goes and if the replacement unit works properly. Part of me wonders if a Cyanogenmod install would remedy this issue. If not, then it's got to be something more complicated beyond my ability to troubleshoot. I am very tempted to try.
I got the phone in February, and it has worked fine until about two weeks ago. My headphones (the ones that come with the phone) started malfunctioning, and there was an OTA update around that time, so I am suspecting it could have been either thing. I side loaded Google's apps during my first week with the phone, and my current OS is 4.6.3 (463001620) [but I don't know why is says "Installed Tuesday, February 18, 2014" since it has definitely been updated since then...]
I'lll let you know how the warranty stuff goes. Maybe they'll give me a replacement that works...
All 3 phones were on 4.6.3 while having this problem. They had immediately been updated to 4.6.3 after purchase. I did test this prior to installing all the Google Play services, but there was no difference. I have not tested this on any other version of FireOS.
Today I made a point to test this more thoroughly. Phone works properly while connected to car stereo via audio jack. I can call out via Speakerphone without issue. However 5 times today when I disconnected the mini jack from the phone, I could no longer router audio through the jack when plugged in again and I experienced the issue where I could not hear the person on the other end of the call but they could hear me.
Plugging in headphones also would not work. This evening, I tested it with a pair of stock apple iPhone earbuds and it has not been behaving in the manner described above. I listened to music for 15-20 minutes, unplugged it and then I'm able to hear the music through the phone's speaker. After plugging it in again, the audio is properly routed to the headphones again. I was able to do this about 10 times without issue. Then at some point the same issue occurred.
I'd like to say that it's an issue with 4.6.3 or perhaps some sort of service that is not handling the audio routing properly and needs to be restarted via a reboot. I kind of wish that I would have tested this issue on another version of FireOS. Despite everyone's disdain with FireOS and my own past inclination to play around with stuff, I really wanted to stick with the stock FireOS, but this lack of proper functionality is bothering me so much I might be inclined to try CM11.
I don't know if this will help you but there's an app called SoundAbout that will force audio through the headphone interface whether the phone thinks a headphone is plugged in or not. You'd have to get a copy of the apk and sideload it on fireOS though. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix
I had SoundAbout installed a few days ago but that didn't seem to solve the problem. When I force switched it to the audio jack, I got nothing or some pops. It just seems something gets corrupted or quirky until one restarts the device.
danielnealclark, today I was trying to shoot some video with the Fire phone and ran into the same problem that you had by the way. I'll start another thread on this issue to see if anyone else has experienced this.
I only add this because it's getting to the point where I am very tempted to install CM11. If the sound issue persists (though I'm sure other issues might crop up then, lack of mute during a call being one as I understand it...) then I'll have to give up and come to the conclusion that it is some intermittent hardware issue on some of these units.
Let me know how CyanogenMod works if you try it. It prob has it's own issues too. I am going to try to get a new phone through the limited 1 year warranty. I'll keep you posted about the process
Got a replacement phone, and it worked fine until today...
I thought that a certain pair of headphones were the culprit, and I never should have plugged them in to my replacement phone (they are official amazon fire phone headphones BTW). This pair of headphones went bad and were only working in one ear when in the fire phone (but they work fine in both ears on my computer, which I don't understand) and it was around the same time my last phone had the headphone issue described at the beginning of the thread, so I thought the issues may be related. I tried them today, and oops, they messed up another phone!
From the other posts on this thread, there is an issue with certain headphone jacks--not sure why. But if a certain headphone jack gets plugged in, the phone will forever think (until power cycling) that there are headphones in during a call, and never think headphones are if you try to plug in headphones for music/games.
I guess I still have it under warranty since it is a replacement through Amazon. I'm gonna try to do some resets, troubleshooting, etc...
So pissed right now
I've been having this issue as well. It is very annoying!
I have the same problem, as I previously posted. Unfortunately nothing I did remedied the problem nor was I able to find out any more information.
Daniel, did you end up getting Amazon to replace your phone previously, as you had mentioned?
I honestly think that this is not a problem particular to only a few models. I don't feel that a replacement would help because sooner or later it arises again it seems. It could very well be a jack problem, but I really feel this is some low level quirky OS issue. Originally I had mentioned that I might switch to CM. I've decided that this would lead to additional quirks going this route, so I will continue to keep my phone stock. The true test is if someone with CM experiences this issue or if switching to CM remedied the problem. Unfortunately, I've had so many frustrations with technology as of late and so little time, I don't have it in me to fiddle around anymore. I'm not sure if we can expect Amazon updates to remedy this, and all we can do is hope some day we get an update.
My main problem was that I use my Fire phone to connect to my stereo via Aux input. So I was constantly having issues. I ended up simply purchasing a USB bluetooth adapter for my car stereo and going wireless with the Fire phone and it's worked well. I must admit my Fire phone is not my go to phone for listening to music with headphones because of this, but I always found that the Amazon earbuds were less likely to cause this problem than other ear buds in my case.
After a long listening session, the only thing that helped me was simply rebooting the phone. A really crappy solution, but definitely more productive for me than continuing to tinker with this issue for me. Or going bluetooth. For those experiencing this issue, please keep us updated if you find a long lasting solution or if you have experienced any remedy with CM. Or, if our farfetched dream of an Amazon update were to become a reality...
All the best in the New Year folks!

I second that post! If anyone solves this one, let us know.
alexandergrig: I did get them to send me a new phone, since it was under the 1 year warranty. The phone call took about 45 minutes, with me trying to convince them by plugging in headphones/unplugging headphones to show that it was really broken. Before that call, though, they told me the first thing I had to do was perform a factory reset before they would even consider progressing to a replacement. [BTW the Fire phone has a great native backup tool if you are just migrating from one fire phone to another, it's all cloud based]. The new phone was a refurb.
I think I'll try the bluetooth thing for my car, that's a great idea. I really like my bluetooth headphones for work (as a bonus I found out they connect to my computer super easy too--at the same time as my phone even--so I can run desktop-only music sites)
Curious if anyone was able to fix this. I had this occur on my original Fire Phone. Amazon replaced it in Nov 2015 and my new one just started doing this....

Good luck. I also am on my 2nd Fire, and like you have the same problem back again. The funny thing is, it was caused by the stock headphones, other headphones gave me no problems. So what did I do? I gave up! And now I LOVE LOVE LOVE my bluetooth headphones. They are so easy to use and no more cords. Try it out, you'll never go back (until the batteries die... but they charge pretty quick)
Good luck to you.
I experienced this problem on 3 separate Fire Phones. So either I am very unlucky or this problem is more widespread than we know. Because of this, I doubted that a replacement would help me. I will say that I have used my one 64gig Fire Phone without this problem being an issue for months and so I came to my own conclusion which might not end up being very helpful but...
I was able to experience this constantly when I made it a point to plug and unplug the headphones for testing purposes (both stock Amazon as well as the older Apple earbuds). Ultimately, the way I ended up using my phone's audio output was by streaming audio via bluetooth to a USB bluetooth adapter connected to my car stereo almost daily. Also most every day I would usually go from the Bluetooth audio in the car, to plugging in my headphones for my 3 mile walks, and then unplugging the headphones and reconnecting via Bluetooth in the car to drive home. Doing this for the past many months, I did not encounter one issue with placing calls via the phone itself, speakerphone or even via the mic on the earbuds.
Because of this I am concluding (as I initially believed) that it might not be hardware but rather the Fire phone's low level OS/system software that governs the audio jack that happens to be buggy. It's like there is an issue with the jack status detection routine and it gets "stuck" in one mode. I may be wrong, but there is a good possibility that Fire phone users that do not experience this problem, very well might start if they constantly plugged and unplugged their headphones from the jack, attempting to place and/or receive calls in between. At some point this issue might arise. But in my experience it goes away and corrects itself until the next time, unless anyone else has experienced otherwise.
Due to the lack of significant continued development of the Fire Phone, Amazon will likely not address this problem via an update. My sense is that if not everyone is experiencing it because it is a software issue, then it's prevalence is due to usage patterns. I, like others, in the beginning found this to be a constant problem the more I tested it, especially with plugging and unplugging the headphones and making calls. With my 3 phones, I have a hard time believing it's actual hardware only because it eventually seems to resolve if I change my usage patterns.
Might be totally different for you guys, but I guess this is my final conclusion. I sold one of my 32gig Fire Phones and still plan on using the 64gig, despite picking up a couple of other phones.

Headphone Jack Inconsistent

I got a brand new pair of earbuds (Brainwavz Delta something) and plugged them into my HTC 10.. they work fine for a bit then if I move the phone just right (or sometimes do nothing) the music stops, there's no longer a headphone icon in the status bar, and I have to unplug and plug them back in.. any idea what this may be caused by?
My Xiaomi Piston 3s worked fine with it, they just died in one ear :/
Edit** the headphones work fine with my Nexus 7, so it's not an issue of compatibility... unless the fact that it's a 3-ring plug (which should be fine, so were the pistons)
Same issue with headphone jack
I was using a pair of Fischer Audio Consonance Pro IEM's on my M8 and now 10 and experiencing the same issues. Songs skipping all over the place, starting, pausing, the OK Google app starting up and saying it couldn't hear what I said, or picking up something from what I am listening to. It is maddening. I love this phone so far, but this issue will drive me crazy if I can't be easily fixed.
It's as if the jack/plug is coming loose, since it fails to recognize the headphones until I unplug it and replug. It's very annoying, and seems to happen only if I tip the phone just the right way :/ hope it's not a hardware defect...
I have a feeling this is because of the edges, if you look at the headphones Jack it isn't flush the edge goes in a little thus you don't get 100% covered 3.5m lead.
Does seem worse in some headphones though

Not really, the best way would be to get a very small 3.5m extension cable, one that isn't so sensitive, but you would only find out through trial and error. Or buy another set of headphones. For example my bose qc25 aren't to bad but a cheap sony set I have if I move abit they crackle.
Is the one bit of design htc messed up. If they would of moved it a few mm to the front and problem solved.
Surprised more people aren't moaning about it as one big points is the 24 bit audio.
Can we confirm that this is an issue across all HTC 10's and not just an unlucky few? I thought my phone might've been defected. 2 Beats headphones I have (got both as gifts) do not seem to work properly. But if I use other a plantronics headset I have, works just dandy. I'm afraid to buy any headphones not knowing which would or wouldn't work. This is not a good thing at all.
I have a Sol republic headphone with mic integrated and doesn't work properly on mine either. However, a friend of mine has a sol republic headphone too, and it works. I bought a panasonic tcm 125 and it works really well.. so IDK, I'm going to change the cable on my sol rep to see if that fix the problem.
Might be headphones with integrated control/mic which has the extra ring :/
Question: when does the issue happen for everyone else? Mine almost always acts up when I turn the screen off, maybe that has something to do with it
I can confirm this is NOT a wide spread issue, I even dropped my phone, not low enough to hang on the cord but enough movement to yank on it, I have messed with it, played around to see if I can make it have an issue, but no issue exists, its either an unlucky few or your headphones.
The only issue I have not related to this is my headphones I tested, the "Audio Technica ATH-M50" jack is too big to fit in the headphone jack while my phone has its case on (Spigen Neo Hybrid Crystal), taking the case off solves it, just barely not big enough cut out on the case for that model of headphones, regardless they don't sound as good as my IEM's so F em! lol
Have you guys tried other headphones or AUX cords? I don't have this issue anywhere, not via Headphones, not at my work on are speaker system, and not in my car via AUX.
So the actual shape or design of the headphone jack it self is NOT flawed like I noticed some have speculated.
I've been using my m50x or bose qc20's. Both work fine with no issues.
Pretty sure it's headphones with integrated controls for Apple devices that don't work. My jbl reflects which I use for running (3 rings) don't work if pushed all the way in. But my bose sound true work just fine. And the bose just so happen to be made for samsung and android devices. If I had some apple earpods around I'd test it but I'm thinking it's just headphones with integrated controls exclusively for Apple that might have issues.

Wish that were the case.. mine are specifically Android remote headphones :/
Experiencing similar issues with my Sennheiser Urbanite XL headphones. Seemingly random moments where the headphones seem to just disconnect with the slightest movement (or non-movement).

Hmmm you're right. My sisters htc 10 seemingly all headphones just do not to work. Might be a small batch issue. I'm thinking about exchanging out for another one because I have the yellow band issue on the bottom of the screen anyways. Really don't want to play the exchange game like I did with the nexus 6p especially since HTC doesn't have the same support Google does. Gonna exchange if I get a bad one twice I'm just returning this phone all together. Hate to see it go because this phone is gorgeous.

Man I'm past my return date... and I'm not ponying up $100+ for a replacement through Verizon insurance

Ah I have the unlocked model and I modded it to use on Verizon. I had no problem replacing phones through verizon though. Switched out my s6 edge 4 times for free due to display and speaker issues. Of course you end up getting their certified like new device which may or may not bother you. But if it doesn't you can just go to a corporate store and show them some headphones won't work. Most likely they'll ship you one free of charge.

I'm not a huge fan of Verizon anyway.. parents are just too afraid to lose the coverage (T-Mobile is top of my list but they're not so convinced)
I accidentally whacked my headphone jack very lightly with the tip of my finger and now my headphones seem to randomly disconnect. It works fine with my aux cable, but with my headphones with a mic it seems this happens.
